Love both. Been playing Aoe2 since 2001. I stopped playing for a period of 5-6 years and came back to DE. By that time Aoe2 HD's vibe had disappeared from my mind. I was really pleasantly surprised with DE's graphics. It looks gorgeous imo. 3D graphics are good, but when 2D is done right, nothing beats it in my opinion. It's why I don't really like Aoe4. A little too cartoonish for me.

By far the biggest improvement in DE is just the overall responsiveness on the game. Going back to HD I find I frequently click things and they just don't register.

When DE first came out I hated the new graphics--why touch perfection? But as I have played it more I have gotten used to it and even found myself appreciating it at times

At least the old version had gruesome decomposing corpses when units died

DE looks better overall, but there are cases when HD looks slightly better too.
I like the HD version. It's more pixelated which many games are trying to go for now.

They do but I think a little faster than HD. I wish they could introduce a non-decay option in the settings
