@LunaticKing-fj3hp He only faced top contenders and he beat the best. His only two losses are to ATGs which was after he nearly died to diverticulitis. He was very good
I've grown to appreciate Lesnar's UFC career. With only one MMA fight under his belt, he signed with the highest level of MMA competition UFC and debuted against their former heavyweight champion. In just a few fights defeated one of the greatest heavyweights ever Couture for the championship and defended it twice against Mir and the undefeated Carwin. Remember he began his MMA career at the age of 30 and jumped straight into the deep end
"Jumped straight into the deep end" is a weird way of saying "was granted opportunities for next to nothing that other fighters had to actually earn" If he had to get 8 fights under his belt, like Mir or Valasquez did before getting a title shot, there's no chance he comes out of those 8 fights with a 7-1 or 8-0 record like those guys did.

The atmosphere and the anticipation of fights during this era is incredible. Don't get me wrong there are lot of great fights and even greater and technical fighters now compared to the past but damn, I miss the era of 2005-2012 era of the UFC. I miss this kind of crowds and the hype of every fight is unbelievable even though it's quite not technical yet.
I was literally discussing this with a coworker last week. It almost seems like there’s too many events now, and while I get it makes money and showcases a lot of talent, it just isn’t the event UFC fight cards were in this era.
I remember back then this fight was the biggest fight in the sport then. Two Titans with the most power colliding, 2 guys that hadn’t really been tested on the feet, this fight was everything and more
Round 1 tap out was expected. Brock Lesnar "never give up attitude" was fantastic. Great fight from both. Well faught and shows how both fighters are top of their game.
We all know that a lot of these guys were on many sauces and Carwin was a big time juice head. I loved watching Shane fight but doing that stuff cycle after cycle, your body starts breaking down faster and it can't recover correctly.
NCAA heavyweight champion, UFC heavyweight champion, and WWE heavyweight champion. One of the greatest careers in combat sports history. Edit: I guess I should be clear: obviously WWE isn’t an actual sport. If anything, it’s live stunts and showmanship. A bunch of weebs are calling me out for naming his reign as a WWE championship as a great accomplishment but they don’t understand how many talented athletes who participated in WWE have never been chosen to hold the belt. I, personally, would never claim to be able to do the things WWE superstars do on an almost daily basis. But Brock can and still does. He is a decorated wrestler, a decorated cage fighter, and a decorated in-ring performer. Call WWE fake, but you can’t deny that Brock has earned respect universally in both combat sports and sports entertainment.
You know things are serious when your opponent, the one that you beat the shit out of him and that you made him clearly bleed, is smiling like he enjoys that shit
This is the fight where I realized Lesnsr was not what he was before - that’d he hadn’t fully recovered. The overreaction to the knee…..But it’s also where he showed intestinal fortitude and skilled strategy to reverse a bad start.
What a lot of folks don't realize is that when Lesnar was on the ground, he was telling the ref, "I'm good, I'm good" which let the ref know he was still in it.
Fighter also get knocked out cold and get up and question why the fight was stopped the ref isn’t there to ask if he’s okay he’s there to prevent them from killing each other and 9 times out of 10 a fighter will lie or keep going despite there physical shape they’re willing to die in the cage it’s the ref’s job to stop it before any real damage can be done this is a recipe for cte 😭
Carwin was a total beast, knocked out Mir, Gonzaga etc, but Brock proved he was a tremendous athlete being able to adapt to MMA and actually won + defended his title in only several fights.
That show of respect at the start of the 2nd between Carwin and Lesnar was beautiful, how Lesnar survived that 1st round just shows how much of a fucking beast he really is
I was a Carwin fan. I remember this match. I thought was finished...but the referee didn't stop the fight...never seen such an intense beatdown. Kudos to Lesnar who survived! Always in the Carwin army!
Was excellent defense. His arms are so damn big you cant sneak anything around them lol. But hey whatever works. Punched himself out then got caught in a choke.
I’ll never forgot the anticipation I had for this fight. Can’t remember when it was, like 2011 or something. I remember the promotion talking about their glove size being like 5x XL. Carwin was an animal, for people who don’t know, carwin was basically what Francis was of top coming up. A freak powerhouse that put you out with the wind from his punches. You couldn’t get out of a round with him
No.. Brock was the first ever that they had to make a custom glove for. They went to 3xl and Brock needed a 4xl ... Then came in carwin who needed an even bigger glove. He was 5xl not brock
But you are correct about carwins punches. He maybe didn't have more actual power in his punches. For example on a punching machine. But the power he did have combined with his 5xl size hands gave him more ko power than francis. He knocked people out quicker and easier than francis
People who are new to the sport don't know who shane carwin was If he touches you, you go flying! He was undefeated and finished all his 10 fights within 1 round and Lesnar made him tap
His finish on Frank Mir is fucking scary. I remember watching it as a fairly new fan to the sport (Brock was what introduced me to the sport as I was a WWE fan as a kid) I remember getting bored with the holding in the clinch then Shane just unloaded with uppercuts and he doesn’t stop until Frank dropped. I was just in awe at the sudden ferocity. Definitely one of the moments that solidified me becoming a true fan of the sport.
This days Shane Carwin was undefeated 12 wins and 0 Loses and 12 knockouts and all knockouts in the 1st round... I think this record was the greatest have ever seen in UFC until today.. Carwin was unstoppable knockout machine.. no one was available to stop him this years.. and he absolutely destroy the prime Frank Mir in seconds like a no one before.. and Brock when he was sick by diverticulitis he did this.. he survived lot of heavyweight brutal punches and elbows on his face and he stop him and beat him.. this night Brock Prove to the world why he was the best in the world and become the undisputed UFC h/w champ. Big respect to Brock Lesnar for this night. Lot of fighters say if Brock wasn't sick he should was UFC champ for long years. FACT
Shane hit him so often that he was tired and Brock took some really hard hits. It's insane that Brock could handle all of them so well. He can take so much.
I agree that it absolutely gets stopped today but they let a lot of fights go back then that they wouldn’t today so I don’t think it was necessarily because it was Brock. That Matt Hughes comeback against Frank Trigg never happens today either.
Some people dismiss Brock since he came from WWE. They forget that he beat Mark Hunt,Frank Mir,Randy Couture and Shane Carwin with an amazing come back.
Frank Mir is washed up even in his prime. Randy coutoure wasn't really a heavyweight, he was a light heavyweight. Brock bested mark hunt on steroids and knew that Mark couldn't wrestle. Shane carwin was the only legitimate fighter and Brock took advantage of shane gassing himself out. Otherwise, Brock got whopped by Alistair, Cain and could have been junior too.

This was actually one of the greatest comebacks in ufc history, I watched this at a casino and I guaranteed the waitress that Shane was going to win, well he almost did that fight could have been stopped, but Brock somehow survived and then got the finish, lots of people were laughing at me cuz they were Brock fans, but that fight could have been stopped, that’s why I love this sport
Man, this is an old fight. The fighters still were allowed to have sponsors then. Also, that undefended pounding in the 1st round would've been called in today's UFC. Brock would've lost
I was about to say the same thing but figured someone else already said it. This fight absolutely gets stopped in the first round today. I feel like we do miss out on some potential epic comebacks, but fighter safety should take precedence over what ifs.
@@georgefreemon2935 Derrick Lewis was still there in his last fight too but they still stopped it. Not saying I disagree with your assessment of Lesner’s state but I do still think this fight gets stopped if it happens today.

It's crazy how close Carwin was to beating Brock. Hats off to Lesnar for the gutsy performance... and it's a shame how injuries plagued Shane's career
Don't forget that Lesnar was doing all of this while his health was in the worst way due to diverticulitis.
We all know that a lot of these guys were on many sauces and Carwin was a big time juice head. I loved watching Shane fight but doing that stuff cycle after cycle, your body starts breaking down faster and it can't recover correctly.
It's also why Shane's gas tank wasn't very large, even for a heavyweight
He did beat him in the first round at least a couple of times.
