This is the ONLY running philodendron RUclips video I’ve seen and it has changed how I see philodendrons! I think you saved me $300 in avoiding large expensive philodendron deaths 😸😹
100% subscribed! I had purchased my gloriosum with the rhizome buried under the soil. I dug my plant up after seeing your video and the stem had already started rotting! The roots were also not very happy either. I've got the whole bit now in a clear box in sphagnum moss in Planty ICU. So thank you! 🙏
Sadly I killed 3 different Monstera's by making this mistake. I found her video and have purchased my 4th variegated Monstera; this time I made sure not to bury the rhizome and so far he is doing good . Actually got a new leaf. 😊
I'm giving it a shot today with a chunk of gloriousom I bought of facebook. the stem looks semi rotted because the person probably buried it but there is still alot of roots so 🤷 🤞
i wish i had seen your video sooner. I ordered plants from a company and some were already potted the wrong way! I've been trying to rehab these plants for months and left wondering what it is I'm doing wrong, why my plant is only shooting up one leaf at a time etc! when clearly its the way they had potted up the plants. Now i have knowledge just in case I decide to chop up my philos! First thing I'm going to do is dig them out of their pot and save them from being suffocated! Very informative video of all youtube plant videos ive seen on philodendrons so far! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I will only go to your channel for any plant questions and I am forever grateful and thankful! more videos please! Can you make one with over wintering alocasias and the importance of it, etc.
Thank you so much for this video! I recieved a very expensive gloriosum as a gift recently, and over the last week every leaf has turned yellow/ brown. I've done hours of research on what's gone wrong and keep finding conflicting information online and from people in plant groups. I learned more in your 10 minute video than I did with all my research combined! Thank you so much!
This is what we needed. Unlike those fussy so called 1 year plant collecting youtubers who think they are experts after buying plants from indonesia or south america. Probably threw out their pothos plant from home depot because it's not rare enough to be shown with it on youtube and instagram.
Wow how have you not going thousands of subscribers. I’ll be sure to give you a shout out on one of my houseplant videos. You deserve it! Greta video I learnt so much!
Wow, I hope you make more videos. I had no idea that these running philos have completely different planting instructions. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you i learned alot looking forward to seeing more of your plant guide ,if you know of a shop selling roots please let me know l have plenty of time on my hands now 😊
Hi! What a great, informative video. I had no idea these required different potting methods. I just received one of these, and filmed a video potting it up the "same ole way." I'm going to fix her up pronto, and be sure to give you the credit! Have a great night!
Just Lovely! Thank you so much! 1st time watching you & you have answered so many of my questions! I have the Split leaf Philodendron & I am in love with the leaves & the fact that it is sturdy! :)
Thanks for informative video. How do I cut off dying, yellow gloriosum leaf? Do I cut petiole off near the stem or just the leaf part leaving the bare petiole sticking out? I had mishap and my Gloriosum leaf snapped; I tried taping it together but it has now yellowed. 😭. Thanks for any advice.
Love this! Lol, but when you said they need room to grow, and to "give them at least 15 cm across" in pot space?! Ha, mine would be so constricted in 15 cm pots. I know some people keep them in literal plastic deli cups, bc the type they have is a viner, going up a moss pole... so that's the "substrate", but even my mounted types need more space! Some of mine have attached to the wall or to wood, so can't imagine they're receiving much in the way of nutrition that way. They're just vigorous I guess. Mine need at least 30 cm across if not double that! I like to grow these crawling types in wide and shallow containers. Same with maranta and tradescantia. I even lucked out at the store and found a deal on low, wide, square shaped self-watering pots that get wider at the top. I guess that's called tapering at the base, huh... haha
Regarding those stem cuttings - after a while, when a few leaves have popped and a new running stem has developed, what to do with the original stem from the old running stem? Mine has grown super wierd and the old stempart kind of has to be covered with soil for it to work. That old part is brown and hard. Is my plant going to rot if I let that old original stem sit under soil? I keep the new running stem above the substrate.
This video was so helpful! Thank you! I have a question about the 5 propagations you started. The new growth was the new growing stem right? So how would you repot it? Will the old growing stem die off? I don’t think I saw roots so I was curious to how you would repot those babies.
I think I have a runner philo. I got it from a plant swap from someone in Florida and don't really know what it it. But the body looks just like this plant, leaves are different though. I had it for almost 2 years and it grew just like this one. I recently re-potted it and have a moss pole in the pot and it is propped up against the pole. The growing stem is not under the soil. Do I need to remove the moss pole and let it grow along the bottom of the pot?
How do you know which side of the stem is the crawler? I see something that looks like a white root curled coming out of the soil of my gloriosum, can you advise as to what it is? 🤷🏻♀️
Getting my first gloriosum this week from eBay. I live in Brizzy so maybe too cold outdoors? Anyhow. This video was invaluable , thanks for the advice :)
If you had the running stem with hardly any root system would you firstly root it in water before placing it on the well draining potting mix? Or would you just put the parts of running stem directly on the potting mix to root it
Do you also have a tip on treating spider mites? I just got a Philodendron Pastazanum today that has them and I didn't have good luck with spider mite treatment in the past :-(
Hi, great video. I live in tropical Singapore and I'm thinking of planting my gloriosum into the ground under my Frangipani tree for shade but am unsure of the potting mix I should use. My ground is pretty hard and clayey so I was thinking of making a slightly raised bed with well draining mix like peat moss/pumice/bark/ charcoal and just let the gloriosum grow and spread. What do you think? Thanks!
Nice content! Very informative. I was wondering with the stick propagations with no leaves and roots, does that applies to monstera as well? And how often do you wet the soil? Thanks a bunch!
Hi there, thanks so much for your very informative video! I am looking for philodendrons with big leaves like the ones on the video, but here in Switzerland I don't find any! Would you sell some "roots" or stems of big leafed philodendrons?
Question: I just received my first gloriosum in the mail today and I’m wondering how to properly pot it since its growing stem is curved... it’s kind of shaped like an upside down “u” or “c” with the growing tip coming up from the middle of the curve. Part of the stem will have to be buried then, right?
It just seems to happen when they are happy - Mine are mostly in the ground and I live int he tropics so it come naturally - When they are established, indoors or out, the should put up a flower
Omg 😮 . I’ve done it all wrong. Had to stop de film halfway to go and get my newly purchased Anthuriums and Philodendrons out of the top heavy black soil I buried them in.. What do I know about plants??? Its quarantine got me interested .And I burry the whole root too. Aaaaarghhhhhh😤😤😤😤
This is the first time someone explain how is the plant in the natural habitat. I do really appreciate. It is very informative 😊
