    Very good idea propagating crawlers like you suggested!! Another way if I may say so, is to cut the stem halfway and repot the cutting alongside the initial plant. I did that with my Plowmanii and it saved me a new pot and the plant looks more full!

    😂 I also can't stand the look of the rectangular pots at bunning too 🤣 hopefully they'll get better as more people use them. Thankfully the plants aren't as fussy and it will most definitely grow big with all the extra room! Another amazing video Jan, the passion you show is always a treat to watch and I always learn something new. Have a great weekend!

    .. Oh boy, so that's what I just bought 😳 a crawler??.. But I fell in love with the leaves 🥺😊.. Well, I guess that I will have to just try and figure it out.. Thanks to you I now know how to handle it.. I hope.. Or I will have to come back to listen to your explanation again..
    .. You're right.. The new pot may not be the prettiest, but if it works, then it will have to do.. I love the bottom though, not so much the color 😊 I've been watching a ton of your videos, and I always learn something new (even how to move with half a jungle) .. Your videos of moss poles, and how to water them for one.. That made some of my plants so much happier when they got something decent to climb.. Your soil mix and explanation about it is the best I've seen on any channel (I haven't had any root rot since, except from plants that I bought with Peat or what ever soil it can be - sometimes it feels like concrete and water takes forever to run through, if at all).. Now I get my spagnum moss, aroid mix and what ever else I need to my soil mix, from the Netherlands as that's the closest to me.. Even transparent aroid pots that also did the trick.. I don't think I've ever seen my plants so happy before, so thank you so very much for all your showing explanations.. It is highly appreciated..

    Jan, I wonder if you put the new planter under the growth point so it has a chance to establish itself before you repot, that might help with the initial wobble. When you repot, just chop it from the old pot and add the smaller plantlets as usual.
    The only problem with this is having the floor space to do this while the new node is rooting into the new pot.

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Год назад

      Totally an option but as you mentioned, i don’t have the space to do this :) it would also makenit hard to move the plants if you wanna take them to the bathtub or balcony :)

    Crawlers are probably harder to grow for you because you are used to climbers which are using bottom root system in your diy aroud mix and another source of minerals is from moss pole. So you have 2 separate mediums they can feed off. Crawlers rely on aroid mix from both sources, aerial and main root system. Maybe you can somehow change formula for your aroid mix if its mixed for crawlers. Maybe its too airy and it dries quickly on the top layer .

    your aroid mix looks like it could benefit from a little bit more coco coir, i know you had a root rot issue but maybe some leca or pon in the bottom and more coco coir in the mix might help you go a little bit longer between watering

    You can get rid of the root rot bacteria by sterilising the old mix in the oven in an oven bag for 20 minutes but you also kill the good bacteria as well. It's never seemed to affect my plants adversely though.

    Have you considered, instead of repotting completely, just turning the pot a full 180° that it may turn and start growing back into the pot parallel to its already established stem?

    • @sydneyplantguy

    Hi, I am having a heck of a time with a gloriosum cutting I got about a month or so ago. I bought it from an online seller, all seemed good for first week until one day the cutting tipped over and the roots dried and had to cut most of the roots off. Since then it has lost one leaf and not grown any new roots. I've tried clonex, propagate in H20, I've tried moss, tree fern fibers ended up getting this blue mold like stuff on it so I got skeeved out and put it back in moss (stirred in some pon and charcoal). If anyone has any tips I'd really appreciate it

  • @HeyImTasso
    @HeyImTasso Год назад

    How did you place the pot in the room? Does the source/direction of light also somewhat influence the direction of crawl for the Gloriosum or is it mainly directed by the ground/container? Seems odd to me, that the leaves all tilt towards the light but the direction of growth continues in a straigt fashion (besides the latest node, which leans to the opposite side). Thanks for all the great information and entertainment ;D

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Год назад +1

      It will definitely crawl towards the light :) but usually light doesn’t just come from one side, the plant is surrounded by light depending on its positioning. I move this plant quite a bit so leaves can go in all directions :)
