Got one and converted to modern electronics with same motor,. It’s too fun now it runs like twice as quick but is hard not to rollover at a tight turn. I kept it like that and didn’t wanna do crazy motor electronics wise upgrades for it might not handle the power and something could break. Found a second one for cheap with broken body parts for parts indeed.
Thank you for the comments I have another one that is the same but from a different brand I want to do the hobby conversion to I will also keep the original motor
I had that exact Radio Shack truck growing up!! Loved it, miss it! Don't miss the C batteries, though! Man, that sound brings back soo many memories! Great find!!
I have a blue one and my ladies son has your yellow one. I also have the blue Toyota version that was about $160 in the mid 1980's that was selectable low and high gear AND 2 or 4 wheel drive selectable with digital Porportional steering . That one is harder to find and alot larger than the version shown here. It was a Radio Shack rc too. I really like old Radio Shack rc's and I still have the old Sherman tank my mother got me in the 1980's and it still works.
I'm going mid 80's I had one of those as a kid we had Tandy instead of radio shack hour's of entertainment many fond memories awesome find bro good on you for buying it 👊
I remember one year getting one for Christmas and on Christmas morning my friends got the same truck as well but in different colors. That was when I learned about changing channels because While I thought I was controlling mine I was controlling someone elses lol. Thank you for the video. Its great seeing a childhood product come to life again many many many years later :)
Nice I used to love mine as a kid!! It's low on power ... when I was a kid I used some rechargeable C batteries they woke it up it ran much better with them, I also got down the road the radio shack big blue CJ7 jeep that was another awesome one and then I got the big porche they had the martini one it had fat slicks and it went pretty fast it had a motor with a pinion gear on a axle with a spur gear with a diff like the good pan cars have in them...of curse always used rechargeable batteries for more speed and punch!! Would love to see more stuff like this.
I found a tyco air rebound at Goodwill nib, really cool rc but haven't been able to use it how i want, since i haven't got the left motor to respond properly
It is in great shape! Kind of like my Rip Saw the low gear is painfully slow and the high gear is master but the motor barely has enough torque to get over the smallest things. They are still awesome little time capsules of the RCs we grew up with and it is amazing what the difference is today! Now kids are getting 30mph brushless cars out of the box for $50!!! LOL!
Awesome find definitely cool seeing the old rigs. My first one was a nikio chipmunk I’ve always wanted to find one just to have again. Have fun and keep up all the different fun
Brent, that is awesome little Radio Shack truck, I still have my Nikko Dune jumper, the Tyco Hammer and the Nikko 959 Porche. Bringing back memories of me and my son running them in Germany in the backyard. Thanks for the memories. 💥💥💥
You mean the 1/10 black Nikko 959? I had one years ago, wore it out and in probably 1994 I did probably the first hobby electronics upgrade on one. I just recently found a Tyco Porsche 962 like my first RC car and I did a full electronics upgrade on it too, but it's so small I kept it powered on 8 AAs. Found another Nikko 959 with it's box still and gave it all hobby electronics upgrade recently too
I had a cool nikko mosquito it was the fastest rc in my neighborhood in the mid / late 80s! i also had a red turbo hopper that was fun and pretty fast as well. do you have either of those? I would ❤LOVE❤ to see a mosquito running again that would be so awesome! 😊 🙂 😁
Yes, if you do ever find another one of these, it would be very interesting to see it run a little faster. I think it would be fun to stick this one in 'low' gear and try some basic "crawling". I don't know about all the other guys who watch your channel, but I'd like to see more toy/hobby grade RC cars and trucks from the early days of RC.
Awesome Brent! I had so many Radio Shack R/Cs growing up! My favorite was a buggy called the "Golden Arrow" and ran on a NiMH Battery pack. I would like to try to get a banner made to have you put on your wall!
I love your track, thats sweet!!! The amazon rechargeable batteries work great in these old school radio shack trucks, plus they last longer than the original rechargeables that RS had
For its age it runs very good, the batteries would have been a killer in its day. I bet a lot were run only a few times, plus the batteries were not as good.

I had this yellow one in 87-88, my brother got the matching blue one. I still have mine in the attic. It's what got me hooked on RC.
That's great I have the blue one now to

That's a cool vintage rc! That's something that 8 year old me would have loved!
Cool! I just bought one from eBay, original box and complete. Been on a mission to buy all the RC's i had as a kid.
That's great I'm on a mission to get all the ones I wanted but couldn't afford as a kid lol

Any of the tyco cars were super cool. Especially the Baja Bandit. Or the Heads up Turbo Hopper. Buggy or road car.

My neighbor friend had one in 86 and I got the radio shack Audi Quattro the same Xmas! Good memories.
