In another video (my first on the Kingfisher Flight Feather FF01 30S) I made the mistake of saying the spool bearing was permanently attached.
This would be very unusual for a baitfinesse system reel - and would also make it more difficult to clean the bearings. So, I'm pleased that I was wrong and the bearings are fully removable.
BUT, having done some tests and getting a set of upgraded bearings to fit the reel - I discovered you probably still shouldn't do it!
It casts better straight out of the box.

Two videos and a wiener joke 😆😆😆 love it hahaha. It’s a bit odd that the bearing upgrade made the reel so backlash friendly but I guess that shows that the stock bearings are pretty darn good out of the box! Cheers my friend!

I aim to please Peter and wiener jokes are what the audience demand! 😁 Yes, I was surprised at the effect of the bearings - and while it was possible to tune that effect using spool tension, for most people there would be the question of whether spending the money on bearings was worth it given the performance of stock bearings without needing to mess with those settings.

Glad you showed you went with stock bearings. It’s almost standard to upgrade the bearings on most of the budget BFS reels.

Yes - in many cases it's a great option to upgrade to BFS bearings; but I'm not going to say something worked if that's not what happened. The stock bearings turned out to be better performing in this specific reel for me and my style of casting (which is quite aggressive/quick-fire). The worst thing I could do would be to recommend something - for example just to get some affiliate commission - and then people to follow that advice and get burned. That's no good for them and it would destroy any trust when it comes to any future recommendation when I discover a new tip, tweak or effective upgrade. Paul.

The video we have all been waiting for!!!! Oooo I thought this video was going to be about another discovery about this reel.

Well, I think the fact you can remove the spool bearing (when I'd said it was a big negative to have it permanently attached in my previous video) was an important discovery to share - plus a little teaser of how easily it throws a half-gram crankbait. Paul (the drag clicker video is linked at the end of this one too btw).

Yes, I looked at other reviewers pulling the o-ring off easily (sometimes just by pulling the bearing with their fingers)...When I tried that, it felt like the bearing race would shear right off inside the jaws of my pliers before the O-ring would move at all! I had to dig directly at the ring itself with a thin, dull blade - so I wonder if they have modified the O-ring material or made the groove in the spindle slightly shallower now?

What is the bearing size for the side plate? You only showed the size for the spool shaft bearing.

Hi there, apologies for the slow reply - I've only just had chance to open up the reel again and take some measurements (calipers needed a new battery). The side plate bearing measures 10mm (external diameter) x 3mm (internal diameter) x 4mm wide. Hope this helps. Paul

Use a bic pen to with biro removed or a small socket for fitting o rings. I have a question what oil do you recommend for servicing Daiwa and Shimano bfs reels.
I have 2 2022 aldebarans a Calcutta 2023 bfs . Daiwa Gekkabijin and Daiwa silver creek. All bought from digitaka but none came with oil what would you recommend ?

What size is the bearing size on the side plate? Because it's not an 834

Hi - I've not had the reel opened up for a while, but I'll have a look the next chance I get...Watch this space (note that an 834 size will work - but you do have to leave the o-ring off to allow it to fit). Paul
