HANDS ON Testing The ORVIS ENCOUNTER COMBO / WATCH AND WIN This ROD SET!!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 окт 2022
- I grabbed the cheapest rod, reel and line combo available from ORVIS and took it out for the day to put it through it's paces. I wanted to see just how it fished and to show that you don't need to spend stupid amounts of money on gear when you first get into fly fishing in order to catch fish.
The 'ENCOUNTER' combo is available from Kilwell Sports online and from Taupo Rod And Tackle in store and is a great option for anyone new to the sport.
WATCH until the end to be in with chance to WIN the gear I used in this video!

DONE!
Awesome vid as always Alex, I've been a spin fisherman all my life and last season I thought I'd try to fly fish with little success. Over winter I was determined to figure out how to get better. I discovered your videos and started feeling more confident in what you teach and this season I've already caught 5 good fish on my super cheap airflo fly and I can't thank you enough!
Cheers to an epic season ahead.
Outstanding video mate. So cool to see that less expensive gear can still do the job.
Beautiful water and amazing trout - the perfect day! Thank you for sharing.
I’ve caught a few hundred on mine over the last year. Definitely a good intro set up to get you on fish and sharpen your skills! Handles the bigs too!
This is one of your best, enjoyed it very much.
Done. Awesome video Alex, impressed how competent that combo is. Keep up these kinds of videos, really informative!
DONE! Thanks Kilwell and Alex, very generous! Great vid as usual. Looking forward to some back country stuff. Cheers.
Done! Just recommended your channel to a youngster newbie, this video would be a very good one for him to learn from. Tks Alex
Awesome video. Orvis encounter it's a good combo for the money. Not only an entering level, also as a back up equipment. Done.
I’ve been fishing with the Encounter 8wt Combo on the Tongariro for the last 12 months . I paid about $360 for it last year and have been really happy with it so far and after seeing your review I’m off to buy the 6wt also . I must have fished 30-40 full days, caught hundreds of fish and it still shows very little wear . I changed the line last month as it broke , getting wrapped around my Orvis pro boots which I also love, and found the Rio gold 8wtf floating line I purchased was a nice improvement on my cast , all the best everyone, regards Darryl
Cheers mate didn't know orvis had a set under 500 here which is good to know, might get me one had to slightly modify mine after last time fishing there, now fishing a 8.9" rod as they don't make the tip section anymore. Looking forward to your summer dry sessions!!!
Done, for my buddy who's really starting the get the hang of fly fishing but broke his rod on a big brown a while back. Amazing quality content as always, Tight Lines!
Again a great video, Alex. Many thanks!!! I‘ll take a closer look at the set. The price is realy strong.
Another great video Alex keep them coming very informative Done
Caught a fish on the 8'6" #5 of this rod today? 4lb at 20", so a bit stocky but the rod handed really well and I was super impressed. I have no complaints, and given the price I am actually pretty stoked!
Great Video about this cheap Combo from Orvis on a perfect fishingday (not realy nice weather but alot of nice fish) !!! Go on mate 👍
Cheap doesn't mean low quality. Good review and good fishing.
Done!
Great video and a great way to encourage more people to take up fly fishing without wasting heaps of money. I would love to hear some more details on what makes the better rods and reels better compared to this kit.
Done!
Nice video as always. I'd enjoy a #6 Orvis rod, I've never tried one. Keep it up bruthaaaa 💪
Also nice that you've activated this feature.
Great stuff Alex. As always.
👍👍👍
GREAT STUFF! Was an awesome day on the river for sure. Man we sure caught a ton of fish. I knew you'd be impressed with that Encounter outfit. Great starter kit for those jumping into the sport. Thanks for netting a few for me that day 😉
Good times all round aye bro. I forgot how good that day was💥
Done! Another awesome video. The colors on those rainbows are ridiculous.
Done! I know a new starter who would love this setup! Another great vid Alex.
Done.. great review Alex. Great little combo - caught plenty of fish.
Done!
Cheers Alex! Always inspiring, such a humble dude and hope to meet ya on the river one day!
Hey Alex. I bought this combo last year after breaking my previous rod. It also catches brown trout as I am experiencing here on the West Coast of the South Island. Having fished for many years very pleased with the kit. Interesting to see you also use the floating line for streaming - will try that instead of swapping over to a sinking line. Might take off the tapered leader for the smaller streams/clear water. Thanks for tips. The rod holder is great for the long walks
Done. Man, that is a lot of trout. looking forward to some back country stuff
Done! Liking the gear reviews at the lower spec bro. I'd love to see you in a pair or low end waders next 👌🤔😎
Great video again sir you don't need expensive gear to enjoy a days fishing there is plenty of good fly rods and reels out there at good prices at end of the day its not the rod that catches the fish it's the angler using it all the best from bonny Scotland
DONE!
Love your videos, Alex! I hope someday to visit New Zealand. In the meantime, chasing trout around Colorado.
Done!
Was nice change of pace! Looks like you boyz had some fun too!
Wont say done as don't need the kit, but as always, great video and I learn so much every time I watch you fish. Are you using poly or fluro for the sinking leader?
Look forward to being back in NZ after too long away. Keep up the great content.
Just love that get it done with what you got 💯♥️🤺
Done, fished the same pools on the weekend with a lot less success, great to see the set up. I'll lengthen my leader next time.
Super Cool!!!!! I recently got this rod and reel. I have been fishing my whoile life, but only fly fishing within the last 2 years. Because of you. I started watching your videos and was inspired to learn. I'm from Las Vegas, my wife is from Kati Kati NZ, I'm heading over to NZ in May for a month. I'm going to give it a go. Thanks Bro.
Maaaaatteeee. That’s Uber cool to hear that. Stoked - made my day!!
Done!! Was taken fly fishing at the end of last season for the first time! Loved it still trying to find the money to buy my own set up! This would be perfect !
Done, but not for me, for the better half as she needs her own gear 😊 Great review Alex, and good too see some nice fish in that river still. I’ll be heading up Taupo way next weekend 🥳
Done , Great videos, now I am planning a trip out your way end of this year beginning of next, had a 5 week trip to South Island many years back, caught a few fish but GF at the time was little bit instant I pay attention to her and not so much the fishing, that did have benefits but missed out on lots of fishing. Will have to reach out during the planning session to see what to do and where to try, very open to trying both Islands this time and no women this time, wife as she is now stays at home lol
Impressive kit from Orvis.
Shoot this is the only social media I have!! Good luck to whoever enters lol Alex great video bro thanks for always sharing your wisdom!!
Just ordered one, moving over from lure fishing for trout to fly fishing! Excited to learn with it
Done! Great video as always and great to to so many styles from one rod
DONE!
Awesome video as always, was wondering if that combo was any good, looks like it definitely is! I’d put that combo to good use on some US Great Lakes rainbows if I won the draw!
love your content brown are my fav!
Done. Another great video Alex. Cool combo.
Great video as always
Great video, mate.
I give free fly fishing classes monthly and have been impressed with some of the lower end combos lately. I’d like to have seen you throw the SA line on the rod also, just to see the difference. I’ve found you can improve a cheaper rod with a great line and continue to improve your skills with minimal investment.
Can't I just tie my own tippet with a few bloodknots starting with 8 down to 4 ?
DONE! Thanks for another great video. Fav fishing one to follow. Grace and Peace.
DONE
Great review and philosophy of gear/cost..
Done - cheers Alex. Good clip bro! 🤘
Hi Alex suggestion for you. Instead of using the word cheap ( cheap & nasty) how about inexpensive? Something I learned working at Simpsons Picadilly many many years ago
Def sounds better than cheap…!👍
Done Alex, great vid m8, many thanks.
Well that was a good demonstration of that rod, looks like it’d be good for somebody wanting to get into fly fishing. What does your buddy think of that vest? Thanks for the video.
DONE ... set up fished really well Alex ...
Nice vid. Those orvid rods are indeed multi purpose. Will consider them next time.
Done. Nice bit of gear for people getting into fly fishing
Done 😊
Thanks for another great Video Alex 🙌
Done. Best content in youtube. Really enjoy all or your videos. Thanks!
Done! Great video. One day I hope to fish New Zealand.
This video deserves more views
Done! Looks like a pretty decent piece of kit
Man u slayed’em!
Done! Thanks for the great content. @mannyfishadventures taught me everything he knows, and now I know less than when I started!
Looking forward to seeing your next south island adventure.
Thanks for the video
Done! Thnx for the testing!
I like the fly combo seems good for cash output $$ worth it beck up gear
Done!! Great vid. Very informative. Definitely subscribing
Thanks man, welcome to the team💪
Done great review and video
Done
looks like a cool combo
Nice done!
Done!
I really enjoyed this video.
Done Greetings from Alberta Canada love the colors on them big bows
Done! Thanks again great video
Tried to get hold of one of these kits in the UK but was a no go. The reel does seem a cracker to be fair! Great vid fella... Tight Lines 💪🏼
I have fished orvis rods for 50+ years..I love them
Done Bro! I like the variety in your recent videos.
Done. Great video as always.
Done! And loved the video
Done.
Great review.
Done, great video.
Done!
Be ideal for the Mrs to get started out
Done! Great video
Well, OK, but hardly an objective test, since it's YOU, on a NZ stream. I mean, how much worse would you do with a curtain rail and some dental floss? A much more convincing demo would be ME, with THAT gear, catching trout THAT size, on a Washington State stream. BTW, if my comments ever sound bitter, it's because I am. And BTW, awesome fun as usual, thanks!
Done🎤 Always a great video.
I like your videos and the scenery is mind blowing! But is it time consuming making your own leader? I just buy Umpquas leader and add tippet ring and about 2 feet of leader ??
Takes no time at all.
Building a straight through leader is Much more effective at getting your flies down quickly than using a tapered leader and worth doing
@@TrippinOnTrout I see your point ok 👍 I’ll definitely try it out! Thanks!
sweet!
DONE! Cheers Alex 🤙
Good video again, Using kit the ordinary man can afford ... Encounter v Helios 3 $$$ Also bad habits! teeth v nippers/pliers, don't know what NZ denistry prices are like?
Dentists are more expensive than fishing gear here! Terrible habits that I’m trying to break!
More of the product testing is a good idea dude. As well as everything else of course.
Good day catching nice fish sweet dreams
You are funny!
Done A great day on the river showing anyone who wants to give flyfishing a go that you dont have to spend the world to go fly fishing
I want to learn how to learn to fly fish. I am looking at the Encounter as my first rod combo. I have a Orvis store near by. I’m also looking at the Reddington also. What do you think would be best for a beginner?
I can’t speak for the redington set up coz I haven’t used it but the Encounter is great value for money 💰
Done. My son needs his own gear, smashing Tongariro bombs into my Sage x is making me cry
are you out with Gareth today? I see he has the quad bike hooked up heading to the back country..... luck buggers I'm at work
Done.
Making it look easy once again 😂
Good luck everyone 🤘
Spare spools for the encounter reel? Where? I can't seem to find spare spools for that reel. Is it the same reel that is on the clearwater?
Done! greetings from Chile, at the end of the world 🇨🇱
does the Orvis Encounter reel have an interchangeable spool? I want to Purchase extra spools to easily change línes.
