- I head out for Opening day of the backcountry season and hike a long way into the hills to hunt for some big old rainbow trout. For once, the weather was spectacular and I manage to kick off the new season in style by catching some great fish, spotting some red deer and not seeing another person all day...

Very cool looking fish there
Kingfishers, Otters, a mink and even a Goshawk. As you say, it’s often our other ‘companions’ on the river that make the day special. A few fish don’t hurt either!😊

There only one place where I can catch fish like that in Nevada and that's pyramid lake 20# cutthroat if you can get them to bite love your videos keep them coming

I tend to agree with you bro but a lot of the flies I use don’t come in barbless so crushing the barb is all I can do

This is the earliest I've ever been! Haven't been able to fly fish in about 2 months since college classes started back up.
Great vid as always Alex, particularly "moody" piece at the end. God, it's tough been stuck up here in Auckland and not being able to fish! Not sure if watching great vids helps or makes it worse!!
Flyfishing season is pretty much over here in Sweden, late autumn as it is.

Many times watched deer cross the stream while fishing. Puts a smile on my face for sure.
One time I was lucky enough for a black bear to cross the stream I was fishing within view. Just happened to show up while I was sitting on a rock taking a short break so he never saw me since I was holding still, it was super awesome
Lots of bear in NW New Jersey. Beautiful to watch in their natural environment.

Man your rigs are so much more complex then mine lol. Where I live all I use is a 9 foot leader to a tippet ring and 8 inches of 5x. I cant imagine how much tippet I would go through with that long of leaders haha
Yeah you go through a fair bit of it!
I think the rod you're using is a bit light, i'd go with a #7 with the size of the trouts. Might be the cause of why you're missing some of them.
What’s the off season workout routine look like for Alex?
A mix of strength and hypertrophy stuff and then. a switch to more functional stuff closer to the season opening
