Thank you, man.Great review! Not removable spool bearing it's really surprise! How about,if it's jammed of any point... Will wait till next reel from them, hopefully it's will be better, clicking drag must be too.
Great video! I really enjoyed your McGyvering of the LH DWU. Off topic but do you think new static braked RH DWU if converted back to dynamic braking would be an improvement assuming all work was done correctly from a physics perspective? Thank you for any answer from you or any input from the viewers, Thanks much Cheers!!!!
Hi, I expect it wouldn't create a huge difference - it may well be that static brakes could work better for stream fishing; whereas there might be some benefit to bombing lures as far as possible on large lakes/reservoirs from the dynamic brakes. My hesitation would be whether you could get the exact right spring tension (and whether the brake shoes sit the correct distance from the spool) for the converted brakes to work. With that said, there is a much better chance than if you try the same thing with the left hand wind brakes! Unless you can 3-D print a mirror image of the brake housing... Paul.
Thank you very much for your input! I was thinking of using the Curado BFS springs as its a FTB KO, also it isn't one of my main reels but does get some use and I enjoy projects. I mainly BFS fish for FL Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Invasives, etc.. in large ponds or small lakes. Thanks again I truly value your input! @@FishingDiscoveries
Awesome review Paul! In typical fishing discoveries fashion 🙌🙌🙌. Seems the company has a bright future ahead of them if this is their first entry into the market. Kinda excited to see if they decide on bringing out a more affordable bfs option! Cheers my friend!
Paul, could a 3d printed ring to house the Sagisi drag clicker work or would thay be too thin and flimsy? I have no experience when it comes to the possibilities of 3d printing.
Do you mean replacing the Sagisi "ring" with a slightly larger diameter 3-D printed one (which has the same internal diameter and ridge pattern)? I don't know how well current printers would manage the undulating shape on the inner face of the ring tbh... The ones I've seen would struggle due to the way the molten fibre is extruded and laid down. I could be wrong though... I'm also unsure as to how well it would resist deforming - but I suspect all of these things would be worth trying if you have access to the appropriate design software, 3-D scanner and printing kit...
Hi thanks for the kind feedback. The spool shaft bearing measures 8mm (external diameter) x 3 mm (internal diameter) x 2.5mm (width) and the side-plate bearing measures 10mm (external diameter) x 3 mm (internal diameter) x 4 mm (width). Paul
Nice video! I am brand new to BFS (this is my only BFS reel) and just caught my first fish on it. Coming from the US bass fishing world, I find the fascination with drag clickers strange. Larger baitcasters in the bass world at every price point don't come with drag clickers and I have never not known when a fish is trucking me and pulling drag. Actually just happened to me yesterday with this reel when I landed a 1.5 lb white bass. In your opinion, why are drag clickers such a big deal in BFS? Thanks!
Hi there, in my experience it is because with light lines and L or UL rods, you can often be reeling in while the drag is either paying out line or else "dancing on the spot" (where you are turning the crank but line isn't being retrieved onto the spool). It's a lot like the situation when you put your thumb on the spool (to lock it in place) and reel in to make the drag work. The issue is, with light line, you don't want to be hauling and cranking in line when you should really be holding a position and turning the fish with your rod. You risk breaking the line OR your drag may be too loose and slipping while applying too little pressure to the fish. When some people say "I don't need a drag clicker because I just rest my thumb on the spool to see whether it's peeling drag or not" - that's OK for when a fish is running away from you BUT it's not a good solution to the dancing on the spot/reeling against the drag situation. So, that audible reporting of what your drag is doing lets you watch the fish and not have to stare at the spool with your head down. With most bass fishing/power fishing applications (in contrast), you are often using strong lines to cut through weed and bully fish out of grass/lay-downs etc. and into the net as fast as possible (without letting the fish turn its head away from you). Paul.
@FishingDiscoveries Thanks for the detailed and well thought-out reply! I guess I tend to be fairly delicate with my reeling when fighting fish, but like you say, I'm usually matching breaking points of my line with the rod strength and have a fairly light drag setting. So when the rod reaches a certain bend, I tend to stop reeling and am doing everything I can to reduce strain on the rod and line.
I'm alright with my reels, so I'm not buying another one. I would love to buy your t - shirt instead. Is it available somewhere, or is it a custom one?
Hi there, if you look down beneath the video description there's a whole T-shirt shopping "shelf", you should be able to scroll through a bunch of different options. Each shirt is available in a range of sizes and colours and can either be shipped from USA or European "hubs". For convenience, here is a direct link to my T-Spring store: my-store-dec633.creator-spring.com/ Very many thanks, Paul.
Hi fist time watcher and seen your post on FB I just had a look at the video. Overall I think it's great and you're on the right track. Great info, confident and easy to listen to and will be subscribing. As for constructive feedback to work on. - extreme wide lens not that great and a more forward focused frame would work better and be able to see the cast more effectively. - an overlay or some kind of transparency when nothing the pros and cons would work better as well. But please take this as advice to improve and would like to see more content. As for the reel it is a high price point for an unknown brand to most of the world. Risky to buy for that price. But I know of someone that can make custom clicky drags just need to send the measurements. He's not to spendy either.
Drag systems and drag clickers are completely separated from the free-spool casting process. As soon as you press down the thumb bar it disengages the clutch. At that point the drag clicker cannot affect cast distance at all.
New gear is always exciting! If this reel is for you Rene, it helps support my videos if you use my affiliate link: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DBnTfTf It doesn't add anything to what you pay - though no worries if you'd rather navigate to it by yourself of course. Paul
Great review like always paul.. But with that price tag, i expect more they could offer.. Non clicking parts for instance..😅.. DWU n VE2 have that features with lower price to offer..
I'm interested to see whether enough people pick up the reel to discover if the difference in gearing feel, tolerances etc. means they can create a new CDM price bracket that competes with premium JDM reels but at a lower price. Right now it seems like a massive risk by that company - so I have my popcorn out at the ready to see how this unfolds! Thanks for the cool feedback. Paul
I think, for me, these days at all price points for BFS reels clicking drags are important - even though the pricier Daiwa Alphas Air and way pricier Steez (iirc) also lack that. That being said, some folks want a completely judder-free drag. I'll be interested to see what the split in opinion is - and even more interested to see if the manufacturers respond to feedback. Paul.
@@FishingDiscoveries the aatw is a great amazing reel at super quality. So I would not mind to mod it and slap on a drag clicker. But a cdm reel should have it. Especially at this price point. Hope this reel last a long time as well. Maybe you can fish it exclusively and hard for the rest of the year? :p
@@rawrfishing Go fishing you say? I'll certainly take that as my mission!! hehehe. Interested as to why a more expensive JDM reel gets a pass while CDM doesn't though? I have to say I was kind of shocked at how smooth the gearing and overall manufacturing quality - not what I was expecting from CDM reel at all.
I can definitely see the color being a turn off for some people - and a positive for others. The performance of the reel is actually excellent - my main wish is that it would come with a drag clicker as standard! Paul

Id buy if it was different colors wonder if a cdm company will make a clone with a click drag aswell as colors that will match with most combos

does the aftermarket drag clicker make it cast not as far
