The American-Philippine War resulted in the tragic deaths of some 250,000 Filipino civilians. And it started because America had promised Philippines independence from Spain if they aided the U.S. But after the U.S-Spanish War, the Americans went back on their word, and took the Philippines as a colony for themselves.

galing galing ! tumpak ! "sana all" Filipinos get to know these facts of our history . Divide and Conquer pa rin ang style bulok ng US . Did we ever prosper aligning with US for so long ? our hard earned victory sa war with Spain was stolen by US ! .. traitor from the very start . did you know that the Philippines was actually the first 'experimental colony' of US that lead to more colonies after like Hawaii etc? ? Now we are just a tool for US' hegemony in our region . US can't accept and will do everything to block China's rise . Never nagcolonize ang China ng ibang bansa and they prospered and even lifted 80 million Chinese from poverty without a single shot ! yaman ng west at Europe galing sa resources ng kanilang colonies outside .
Bulag ako noon but Never Again!
      Mabuhay ka...sana all talaga !

Spot on. I am anglo heritage but about a third my family is Chinese, many living in mainland China. I have travelled there extensively and love the culture. They are great, generous, warm friendly people. Best of all they have a great sense of humour, in the west a trait too often lacking in these days of continual outrage and anger.
That said like all countries they have their issues and problems but are aware of these and seeking to improve.

☝️This is how China works with the world. A sharp contrast to the _US Long Arm Jurisdiction_ to FORCE other countries not to do business with Huawei.
The world will eventually wake up to reliaze that America technology, products and services are not reliable.
      Why?
Because you never know when they will sanction you for using US technology and services and kick you out from SWIFT.
So, who would you prefer to do business with ?
History has proven it many times that Han Chinese are not aggressive. If Han Dynasty was aggressive, you and I won't be communicating in English. Chinese invented gun powder to make firecrackers and fireworks. If China has the global imperial instincts as the western countries, Zheng He of Ming Dynasty (明朝) would have colonized Broneo, Malaya, Sumatra, Java, Australia, Sri Lanka, East Africa during his 7 voyages from 1405 to 1433. Could you find an inch of land stolen during his 7 voyages?
If Chinese were aggressive, there won't be East India Company, there won't be Opium Wars, there won't be a Commonwealth and definitely English won't be the international language. The opposite is true, West lead by British invaded China, colonized 1/3 of the world ( Go and count how many countries are there in Commonwealth !! )
Why English is the language of the world? First came the Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, then British, they sailed the world ocean and colonized more than half of the world. That's how Spanish is the language of the South American and English language of the world.
_And who stole the entire continent of North America and South Pacific from the Natives Red Indians and Aboriginal people, respectively_ ?

I agree that China could do much better in communicating its position. However, there are huge obstacles that are not readily apparent, like the major part of an iceberg, which is below the surface. These obstacles are not really China's fault. Still, China must try to overcome them.
First, as Coppens said or implied, westerners are more emotive than Chinese when communicating. A Chinese understands a purely rational argument. With a westerner, you've got to mix it with: freedom, rights, democracy, fight on the beaches, defend our home, etc. A purely emotive argument might even work with many westerners. To the Chinese, if your argument is purely or largely emotive, then it's hot air. Seems like the Chinese and westerner communicate using different pathways.
Second, the western, especially American, mind is largely brainwashed with a superiority complex and even ill will towards countries and people that are not western, and they include China and the Chinese. That's why they have to go to China to open their mind. People in the Global South don't need to vist China to see that China is not the monster described in western propaganda, as they are not similarly brainwashed.
The Ukraine war has revealed that this superiority complex and ill will against others are even deeper than I had suspected. The cancel everything Russia and Russian indicates a very deep well of superiority complex and ill will. Recently, a German parliamentarian called for (I paraphrase) negotiating with Russia and looking at the problem more rationally. He was branded by Olaf Scholtz, the German chancellor, as a Russian bot. Scholtz is not some crazy uncle in a bar. He is the German chancellor, yet his mind is so thoroughly brainwashed that he couldn't see that Russia had legitimate security concerns. Almost the entire European leadership is as brainwashed as Scholtz. And Russia is mainly European.
So, when it comes to China, western superiority complex, ill will, and racism make communication worse. When you defend something about China, the thoroughly brainwashed western mind, and there are very many, think all they have to do to win an argument against you is to call you a bot, or say you are in the pay of the CPC. That's all they think they needed to do. They are like a broken clock. Their understanding of Chins is fixed in a certain time, and they cannot move a tick.

I agree that the West has been screwing Russia first with their NATO expansion, second with their sanctions, third with their bad shock therapy economic policies, fourth with their forced disintegration of the soviet union including losing warm ports on the black sea. However, I think Russia owns a bit TOO much of the world's natural resources because of their expansion around the 1700s. Its unfair that people of southeast asia, india, japan, and a little bit of china who weren't expansionist have few resources, I dunno each person of the resource scarce global south should be given a small piece of Siberia, Canada, Australia, or stock in resource extraction maybe adjusted by their population increase from their populations around 1600.

Yeah, the Ukraine war was also a turning point for me. I noticed the same things, how widespread and deep seated the superiority complex is, it all came out when Europe itself is threatened. Far worse than any other region threatened by war. I completely lost respect for the West.
And yes, I concur on your point for why Global South doesn’t need to visit China to assume that China and Chinese are probably not too different from humans and human countries we’ve encountered. Accepting they’re human is pretty much all you need to do to enable this assumption. The West seems to need proof that the rest of us are human.

BYD says it is about to start supplying Tesla (TSLA) with battery cells
      Fred Lambert - Jun. 8th 2022 2:48 am
In a new interview on a state-owned media channel in China this week, Lian Yubo, executive vice president and president of BYD’s automotive engineering research institute, was asked if he sees Tesla as competition.
      He responded (via cnevpost):
"... _Tesla is a very successful company no matter what, BYD respects Tesla and we admire Tesla. We are good friends with Elon Musk, and we will soon supply him with batteries We are friends_ ... "
*What is the legitimacy of USA, Canada and Australia* ?

Shoot, just look at the native Indians in American, the US government has never honored a single treaty that it has signed with the Indians!
Even the American people themselves don't even trust their own government! The last poll I saw showed that only about 30% of the American people trust their own government! And why should they when the US government is probably the most corrupt in the entire world! Just look at how rampant bribery is in the US government and how the people with money are getting everything that they want because they have the money to buy off the American politicians! Cyrus, thanks for inviting Pascal to your show. I like Pascal too and have bought his new wonderful book.
The world needs people like you two to explain to them what the real China is. Despite the fact that the West politicians and media are casting China in a negative way, action speaks louder than words, and many countries in Africa, South America, Middle-East find that China is really helping them to develop. Trust is slowly building up between them and China. Having said that, I still agree with Pascal that China can do better by communicating better with other countries, especially US and the West and understanding them better too.

Agreed with the concept of mind colonization. A ‘colonial mentality' (or ‘the colonized mind’) shows a preference or desirability for whiteness and cultural values, behaviors, physical appearances and objects from or derivative of the ‘West’ (i.e. Western Europe or the USA), with disdain or undesirability for anything coming from the non- ‘West’. Although many former colonies have since physically decolonized, the _"decolonization of the mind"_ needs to happen in order for a country to truly break free of it's colonial past.

These countries and nations you just mentioned are friends with each other one day, year or a couple of years and then they can turn on each other at the drop of a hat. They make secret deals with one and stab the other in the back. You can look at history and see how many alliances were developed and then broken due to a misunderstanding or a better deal else where. Some European countries that stand with America today will stand with China tomorrow. America in the near future will drop Saudi Arabia and embrace some other middle Eastern country that she once coined as a terrorist monster. Outside of China, most countries were colonized by the West for centuries, hence the natives were constantly brainwashed by their colonial masters for generations. To fortify and justify their conquests, it is not rocket science to smear and disparage countries that were not under their rule while at the same time trumpeting their own successes and achievements. For China, reprogramming mindsets that were taken for granted to be the truth for centuries will be very hard, especially so with the dominant presence of the Anglo-American media, coupled with the fact that most natives of formerly colonized countries were educated in the lingua franca of the West.

"Positive emotions towards the rest of the world". That is incredibly insightful of Pascal. A little flattery along with some tooting of your own horn is often the secret sauce of soft power. Hence the mutual admiration society that is the G7. But the Confucian psyche of the Chinese eschews flattery as hypocrisy and bragging as ignoble. It believes that actions and achievements should speak for themselves. Indeed, I believe that is a philosophical foundation of the BRI - show what China can do to help the world, rather than just talk about it. In its reticence, China is inscrutable to the West and comes across secretive, defensive, aloof and even arrogant. This is truly the cultural divide.

That is to say, I have chosen one specific, relatively small geographical area from both the UK and China thus making it a community to community concept rather than country to country. Building trust and mutual respect between these two geographical regions is going to define the success or otherwise of the project. One of the key challenges I face is to convince people in the UK that we are dealing with people at a provincial level and not the central government in Beijing. That creates a whole new dynamic, some of which Pascal touched upon. It is about building relationships rather than traditional trading activities.

Pascal is spot on when he identifies trust as the thing that makes the Chinese political system work.
I used to subscribe to Churchchill's view that democracy is the best among all the bad political systems. Now, I think all political systems don't work. Only a culture of trust can work. The long line of half baked political leaders elected to the White House and Congress made me doubt the efficacy of western style democracy. Surely, the US has better people than Joe Biden, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton? Yet, they were the top contenders.
The Ukraine war has revealed that almost the entire western political leadership is made up of dishonest, delusional, stupid, incompetent, reckless leaders, who shoot themselves in the foot repeatedly. The whole lot couldn't take down one man, Putin.
Surely, this parade of clowns as leaders, a very sorry state of affairs, couldn't be a coincident. Did democracy have something to do with it? Whatever a political system a country may have inherited, just take it as not good enough. Work on creating a culture of trust.

A lot of the misunderstanding or lack of understanding is due to mainstream media deliberately avoiding positive news from China and or putting a Western propaganda spin on anything to do with China; a classic case being China's elimination of extreme poverty within the past decade and the way China has learned how to subordinate (rather than adopt the failed concept of trying to eliminate) capitalism to socialism. WEF members are everywhere.
Look into WEF members meeting in Davos Switzerland, this year.
And find out what they have planned for all of us.
      I mean, the whole world!

Is that still a question? With its track record of destruction and toppling governments all over the world which is still on-going?
Ironic, isn't it? That it's so hard not to trust a western nation, but it is very hard to trust China, who had never destroyed other countries in modern history.
What I do not like about this interview is that implicitly, it still sends the message that China has to work harder to get others to trust it. Instead of the West having to lay down their ego and work much harder to understand China.
If I were China, I would not want to have 2 types of messaging - for internal audiences and for external audiences. Invariably, I would be seen as inconsistent and dishonest to the Chinese public. But of course, there is room for improvement in communication styles and command of language .
I most certainly do not prefer American speak - speak a thousand big words, promise you the moon and stars and in the end, actually meant zilch.

China is not begging others to trust China or forcing others to trust China. China wants to deal with other countries, big and small, with Mutual Respect Win-Win Trade Mutual Benefits with Common Prosperity, and non-interference with each other country's internal affairs
