The reality is the Imperial Military is massive and clumsy organization, when Palpatine needs a scalpel he reaches for his feared Imperial Security Bureau.

I wonder if Yularen ever suspected that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker but kept quiet about it and go back to his duties as ISB chief.
I think you answered it on your own, he is the ISB Chief - he probably knows as much as anyone, but keeps quiet to keep his position
They probably got drunk together now and then, after a rousing round of killing traitors and incompetents.
@@ThereMayBeLions And his life.
@@ThereMayBeLions : If he is being protected by Palpatine, then on one can do him harm to include Tarkin.
it could be possible Yularen knows about Vader being Anakin
Admiral Yularen is going for a walk.
A very enthusiastic walk.
And killing Jedi. With guns
"I spoke with emperor palpatine last night"
I think episode 7 was by far my favorite…. I just love how based on reality the show is, seeing all the inner workings…. Set is beautiful, CGI is great, costumes and characters and just EVERYTHING is so awesome! That fucking ISB meeting was so tense and awesome! They REALLLYYY get the infighting of the empire to a T… AND MUD TROOPERS AND CLONES ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!! Fucking beach troopers agin! I mean it’s just such a great adult starwars…
It is a well done show indeed
This could be just me, but I LOVED the soundtrack. Gave me some Tron Legacy vibes and I loved it
really good episode i also like how the unforms sre old school star wars and not first order knockoffs, the cut is much more sinister than the first order stuff.
@@OneMoreCrown yeah…. Even the soundtrack is just great…. I didn’t even think of that
@@poil8351 I just love all of the variety and showing us what the empire ACTUALLY looked like instead of JUST storm troopers. We saw engineers here! We see loaders/movers! What’s next? Imperial janitors? It just accurately shows how a military/empire operates. I love seeing all the different organizations/departments/positions. And yeah the uniforms are impeccable…. I like how it’s not all cookie cutter. Although all militaries are extremely uniform, there is VAST differences between one soldiers uniform to another’s. Especially on campaign or posts far from the core. You don’t see marines in WW2 in the pacific all dressed exactly the same..
I literally feel sorry for "star wars" fans that aren't watching this show...they have no clue what they are missing
After Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett I was close to abandon Star Wars completely. Because of, well, obvious reasons. So happy I decided to give it a try and watch Andor afterall. It's a gem.
Can you blame them after years of "meh" (at best) product? It's because of videos like this and people like Alan that perhaps they will try it out one night when they have nothing else to do and then watch the next episode due to enough interest from the previous episode. Recognizing that it's a different perspective on the Star Wars universe will take time and they'll still be wary of Lucasfilm products even if they eventually are wholly supportive of Andor.
We'll just have to wait for Mando season 3, or maybe Ahsoka, to draw back all the fans and get them to love Star Wars again, and then they might just check this show out.
I haven't watched this show yet I'm waiting until bad batch releases then a good binge.
Honestly I wasn’t going to watch this show after Book of boba fett and kenobi, but after seeing someone on YT that I trust not to be a shill say it’s good I gave it a hesitant watch and actually like it
I'm loving Andor and how they are showing much of the inner workings of the Star Wars universe.
Luthen reminds me of Senator Garm Bel Iblis from thrawn trilogy.
Hoping we will see him in Andor: He, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa are so importand for the Rebellion. He was reintroduced in the Disney-Canon, too! :D
He’s definitely more hardline then mon mothma it shows the diversity of beliefs in the rebellion which is great
nice to see SW suddenly getting a smart show and finding you who can see the complex topics it deals with
this show makes everything else in star wars feel like 'tales of the biggest freaks in the galaxy'. i really like the old guy in charge of the isb. he recognizes good work, attention to detail, and ambition.
This episode seems like the best fan film ever made. No knock on Andor at all, it’s actually a compliment. Andor has gone on the agenda of telling it’s own story it’s own way. This makes the galaxy feel bigger, and makes you see the empire in a new way. One of the best scenes was the public transportation area where storm troopers were posted up intimidating citizens. You don’t think about how they can’t really aim their blasters, or that luke could take all of them out in 2 seconds, but instead you think about how terrifying and intimidating the empirical forces are and it shows the suppression of society under the empire.
idk, Mandalorian was a fanfilm series, same with Kenobi. I think there's a huge difference between giving what the audience wants, versus giving them something they didn't even know they wanted. I don't think anyone was expecting Andor, while Kenobi was extremely predictable in terms of just fan-appeal with low effort. Andor is providing a unique framing of the empirial-rebellion conflict, working on what Rogue One and Rebels did to a much larger degree. Which is the opposite of fan films that really focus on stuff like Boba Fett or Kenobi, fan-favourite characters and situations, Andor is kinda the reverse, it takes far smaller new characters and newer situations
Lieutenant lyste: "it is said no traitor escapes the eye of yularen."
Intelligence should keep commanders informed not the same as taking Command, its the organisational equivalent of a king's advisor who spends time in the library looking for what the boss needs before he needs it.
It gets blurry though when it requires active operations to gain info for future active operations
The purpose of intelligence in a stable Western democracy is to keep commanders informed. This requires a highly functional society to work. To understand the ISB, it's probably easier to look at an unstable authoritarian regime.
In the Soviet Union, the purpose of the NKVD in its various incarnations was to keep society under control, including the military. Their duties included putting ethnic minorities into death camps and purging competent officers from the red army, which occurred shortly before war with Germany.
@@hypothalapotamus5293 Yes the ISB for all intents and purposes is an extension of Palpatine.
@@dred9174 Assuming that the ISB is actually loyal goes against "setting up a secret police/intelligence agency in an authoritarian regime 101". If the emperor's attack dog is too strong, the emperor might serve at the pleasure of the praetorian guard and not the other way around (It took about 40 years for the Praetorian guard to be the greatest internal threat to the Roman emperor). It's a fine balancing act.
The crazies and psychopaths cut to Jar Jar Binks got a genuine laugh. Well done!
Love all the new lore we get. Love your content
I feel like this show, with "Generation Tech"s help, is making me a smarter Star Wars fan. Because none of this is anything that I ever thought of before, when imagining how the Empire worked! I basically just thought that the Imperial Army ran everything, under Palpatine's direct commands, because that's the image that the Star Wars movies always projected.
This show is so damn good. The worldbuilding is perfect and not over done I love it
It’s crazy how this show that I wasn’t super hyped for initially is now one of my favourite Star Wars things to date
So ISB can double as Soviet style Commissars? Can an ISB officer relieve an unwilling admiral from command then order the crew of a star destroyer to blast a town to bits?
They have the authority...
In Legends, specifically the books involving the Hand of Judgement stormtroopers, yes. It's why those men did what they did and still remained loyal to the Imperial people. The stuff the ISB did made them like the KGB and other internal "security" organizations. I'm sure there were other books that showcased the shady side of the ISB but not all were scummy. You had Yularen and some agents that just did the job and dealt with fraud and embezzlement by powerful Imperials.
ISB Agent Kallus wielded entire frigates and destroyers with the authority of less than that of an ISB lieutenant. His comrade was an ADMIRAL…
or the German gestapo officers. Lucas had a lot of nods in star wars to WII stuff.
ISB basically is Empire's equivalent of NKVD. Far more than just counter-intelligence and secret police.
Hope to see Krennic and more ISB. We don’t see it a lot in a series about the heroes
'...of course there were crazies and psychopaths...' with a pic of the Sith Lord, Darth Binks. Awesome!
If Dedra Meero turns out to be Andor's sister, that would recreate "Luke, I am your father moment"...
It would be nice to see colonel yularen in andor.
He was in ep 7
Was that yularen? He kinda had the look but didn't sound right imo
@@cloudmaster182 That’s because the actor who voiced him is not British and doesn’t look like Yularen. Also he’s not doing acting anymore after suffering a stroke a few years ago 😕
@@cloudmaster182 because it's a different actor. The other one doesn't look like the character and unfortunately can't do voice work anymore because of a stroke he suffered.
Does anybody remember the walking dead? And the show Talking Dead that began airing after it once it really got big?
That’s what Generation Tech is to me rn, I love post-show review and talk shows, like Talking dead, Total Drama Aftermath, and now Generation Tech lmfao
"You are watching Allan, and my name is Generation Tech." 😂 I suppose when you say such a phrase so often, eventually it turns around. XD
I really like your takes. I just had to stop the video and run out the room, I haven't read Tarkin yet didnt know his history., damn. So many books, maybe that's the next one to read.
The recent canon Tarkin novel was excellent highly recommended
I would absolutely LOVE to see a video speculating what the empire would be like if it weren’t completely bound up by the Tarkin doctrine
"If they will not follow willingly, we will make them fear us, if they will not submit to fear they will perish in our fire for others to see."
Well said spoken like any good dictator.
Filoni understands the mythos, Gilroy understands the realism and politics. My ideal future for Star Wars is one where they can cohesively manage the production of Star Wars projects as a unit. They both build on principals George Lucas utilized in a more profound manner than Lucas ever could have.
Andor really is what the new era of Star Wars needed seeing realistic social/political structures and the how the empire actually worked and how it affected everyday life. I like to think of the original trilogy as rebel propaganda and andor/ rouge one as a more objective view/telling of the story 🤓 I really love this show and it actually made me wanna start working on a Imperial Officer outfit following the 501st guidelines seeing the officers of the garrison just was so cool.
Palpatine was in Andor!
Hahahaha the Cartman kitty audio was so perfect bro 🤣👌🏼
The ISB is like the Kommisar in the Sovjetunion During the Winter War.
This Sobeck smashing Tarkin to the ground loop kills me hahahahahaha xD And how you mixed the channel name and real name up. Shows how humourous you are. More of this content. Expanding my Star Wars by watching your videos is fun
Very well said commentary that’s goes beyond a show. That’s what’s so good about Andor, it’s more than a show for entertainment, it’s is a critique on unchecked power and the choice between slavery or liberty.
Good Episode... Kind of Ironic, as soon as I watched this episode of Andor and this video, I saw on RUclips that Putin declared martial law in his annexed parts of Ukraine....
You've always helped relate Star Wars to the real world, so this makes me wonder what will become of Russia.
How are Star Wars and Russia even remotely comparable?
Hey Generation Tech, I love this Alan channel.
Ya name is Generation Tech Allen? Bruh
Always enjoy your content, and I just heard you just got a nice shout out by Van Lathan on the Ringerverse.
Keep it up.
@generationtech Another great video as always. Any chance you do an overview video of the more recognizable items in Luthen's antique shop?
Prior to the destruction of the Death Star, how does Admiral Wullf Yularen figure into this?
He basically retired his republic commission and then Palpatine asked him to come back and serve as a colonel in the isb. He focused on rooting out traitors within the imperial navy.
@@GenerationTech: That sounds great. However, what was his position in the ISB. Was he a supervisor or higher? How close to the top of the ISB leadership structure did he occupy? In episode IV of Star Wars, you see Yularen just sitting at the conference table while everything else is going on.
@@GenerationTech He and Vader probably got drunk now and then after a rousing round of executing traitors and incompetent buffoons.
@@jameshanlon5689 He seems to be the ISB chief.
@@shariqhasan6220: If he was the ISB chief, then why was he on the Death Star instead of ISB headquarters running the whole show. Was he shadowing Tarkin to keep an eye on him for the Emperor?
An interesting prediction about Meero. I was actually thinking more about Heert since his image was up when you mentioned that. I wonder if he really has what it takes to be in the ISB and if maybe he might be used to get to Meero?
There is a major difference between how rogue one and andor were written vs how all the new movies and obi wan were written.
The serious darker approach in rogue one and andor are SO MUCH BETTER
Can you do a video that teaches the rank structure of the Empire and Rebel forces?
It seems like empire just keeps adding chest squares as needed to support the story and the rebels call everyone Generals or Admirals with little experience to back it up.
2:51 ... wait a minute
I love the mismatched openers big time
I need scu time line vid. Love the vids man
0:43 shows footage of no one dying
Love all the ISB content
Episodes 9 and 10 are gonna be wild.
Do you think Tarkin is coming? The same guy wrote R1 and Andor, the cgi model of his face has already been made (and face mapping has advanced a ton since R1 was made)?
And on the issue of the Galactic Republic: that really began as a resistance movement against the Rakatans brutality of their "Infinite Empire" at that, the Rakatans were truly monsterous in their own conduct from their capital world of Lehon, and the Rakatan Archaepelago may well include some fossilized societies from Pre-Old-Republic days, still dwelling in terror of the Rakatan "Flesh Raiders" such as the garrison of shocktroops they left behind on the ancient Jedi temple world of Tython.
I had no choice, the toilet on my shuttle was not working and i needed to take a shit
The Emperor created the Empire with internal power struggles in mind, that helps sometimes to keep everybody on their toes. He doesn’t want any of his followers to grow too comfortable!
Checks and balances prevent anyone from rising up to challenge him as well.

Could the Eye we saw during the heist be a tragic foreshadowing of an orbital bombardment of the planet?
The way casians ma say “ that’s just love”
😢
Sounds like when you're talking about PALputin, sounds evil sounds desperate ;-
Your thumbnail is misleading, I thought you were gonna talk about Mara Jade!
Seems like you keep documenting our own society's devolution.
This video made me see that what happened to the Jedi with how they got involved in politics and war happened to ISB.
Oh my, will this show go there and have Papatine saying "I don't understand why our taxes are down. Oh, well, go destroy a few more of our planets to make an example."
Love the intros 😂
Where is your allegiance, Alan!!??
Yes I do recognize that light sabre as the first one used by Obi Wan Kenobi. You got papers for that thing?
Bye enemies I won't see you next time on another episode of Allen my name is Generation Tech
basically they are a mixture of the gestapo and the kgb with a dose of stasi , ruthless and sinister and hellbent on purging enimies of the empire.
So, Base Delta-Zero (I assume that is how it is spelt) is basically exteminatus?
Actually my favorite psychopath is Krennic. And while l think the three stages of the Empire are spot on you could make the case that the rebellion caused the Empire to turn from stage 1 to 2. Sooooooo by a not too far leap of logic you could place many if not most deaths in the galactic civil war on the rebs. Certainly a certain beautiful blue orb floating in space of a certain princess would be humming along quite nicely if there wasn't a rebellion that needed a place to hide it's weapons of chaos and terro-- I mean "liberation" 😒
Rebels piss the Empire off, the non-Rebels pay the price.
@@diinouhothead9362 Exactly
Yes, if only everyone submitted like human batteries in the Matrix. Peace of all time.
no, the rebellion had only made the Empire turn to stage 1 to 2 so quickly that people noticed and felt the difference and the Death Star plan predate the Empire. Honestly look a lot like victim blaming, in the latest Andor episode the entire oppression, corruption, and callouness of the Empire government is showed, for a little bank robbery they overreacted so wildly that they basically punish randomly people in a ridicolous way just to show who is the boss. In the end rebellion or not rebellion the only way to not be killed or imprisoned by the empire was to do always and quickly what they want, with a smile and a lot of bootlicking, never protest and accept everything and hoping to have luck because even do all things will not protect you if a random imperial officer have a bad day or imperial policies or internal infight dictate your demise ...and we can all agree that's not a system that can work in the long term
@@lukedalton It would work for the Empire. And that's what's important. Long Live The Empire.
By the way, the ISB will be wanting a word with you.
If we get a Mara Jade I will forever laugh at Josh from Den of Nerds lol
What movie is that from?
Tarkin played by Cartman, that I need to see.
If they shoot the legs it would boost enemy's confidence
I would LOVE to see the Imperial equivilent of Mossad's anti-terror cells.
Maybe it's weird but I really like dedra meero and I usually get frustrated with characters like that in these types of stories but she's one of my favorites so far, crazy she was yennefer in witcher 3
Would of been great if Maul ended up finding that saber and bleeding it.
Wish these shows were not disney + only
Can you please continue separatist alliance vs earth series
I wonder what the ISB will do in season 2
Who do you think is more powerful Grand Admiral Thrawn or Grand Moff Tarkin
Did a double take with that intro lol
In fact, the Human/Ssi-Ruuvi war between their respective empires could be seen as the humans resisting and overthrowing indirect Ssi-Ruuvi rule when the Ssi-Ruuk decided to annex and eradicate and *then and only then* enslave the humans via "entechment", literally as close to Hell as it gets in concept, as slavery to them doesn't end with death- it begins there and doesn't end at all, it is eternal soul-labor as slaves for all of eternity... concept of Hell well-indeed. This uprising wasn't of Palpatine's making, but was various elements of the empire he ran rising up and laying waste to the Ssi-Ruuvi Imperium based at Lwekk.

evil gentech be like
The Emperor's Hands are special operatives in the Secret Order of the Emperor; it actually is canonically a rank therein in that branch of the Imperial Secret Police, their NKVD Divisions; for reference: the canonical tale of Maarek Stele in Star Wars TIE Fighter at that... it is a specific rank in that faction dedicated to removing traitors, and actually more trusted by Palpatine than the entire official Imperial Intelligence combined... these're elite agents.
I've always take COMPNOR as essentially being the variation of the Nazi party. The Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) was the enforcement side of things and IIRC effectively had its own military units who were even more fanatical than Stormtroopers. They are the real SS units as compared to regular German Army in WWII. Beyond that they are off course the "political officer" in military units that you can probably still find today if/when there is any question of the loyalty of someone.
What is the difference between white and green uniforms? No one seems to address this question.
No one acknowledges Mon Mothma looking sexy as hell
Why does the head of the ISB have only the rank of major?
The way that you describe the Situation is EXTREMELY reminiscent of the way things are working in OUR WORLD!🎃
I wonder, do the Galactic Civil War truly ends at the Battle of Endor ? I always believe since the new Disney lore that the Civil War ends at the Battle of Jakku..?
Yeah, Jakku was the last battle (not counting remnants like what’s in _The Mandalorian_).
and here I thought that it was IBS
The ISB is like the SS, just look how the SS had large sway over both internal & external threats, as well as both military and civilian affairs.
Hey, here's a kind of random thought from Episode 7: we see a guy that's just come into a shitload of money and is very close to Mon Mothma, and they're having a disagreement about taking direct action against the Empire, due to the danger of Imperial reprisals against the innocent. We all know that the Filoniverse is moving towards giving us some version of the Thrawn trilogy--that's obvious, for anyone that's paying attention--but are we seeing, in the person of Luthen Rael, the character of Garm Bel Iblis? 80 million credits might be able to overhaul a few old Dreadnought-class cruisers....
Hang on... did anyone else think they had a miniature stroke from that intro?
Tarkin is my hero !!!!!
Gotta say that looks nothing like his hand
So isb is a civilian organization with military ranks, that's just confusing.
Bruh
when you think about it honestly, what does palpatine do all day without the rebels to give him something to work against? Is that why he has so many thrones, to see people battle in front of him all the time? Does he have any other apprentices during that time?
It's reminiscent of Hitler depending on the SS to counter the German Wehrmacht / Military during WWII.
lol
The ISB seems to have the same role in the Empire as the SD had within the SS in Nazi Germany.
More like the NKVD/KGB as the agency has both intelligence collecting and internal security duties plus the job to keep an eye to the military
