GFX 100s + Fringer EF-GFX Pro + Sigma 105mm f1.4

- Here are some examples of the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 EF lens adapted to the Fujifilm GFX 100s with the Fringer EF-GFX Pro adapter. I'm happy to say that this combo is amazing. The Sigma 105mm holds up amazingly well when it comes to sharpness. It focuses great and leaves a tiny vignette that is easily removed in LR.

You are the ONLY dude doing these and they’re awesome!
Thanks. I wish I could test everything😂
My best wedding photographer
This is the video I needed. Just bought a canon tse 135mm and needed some info on adapter to gfx 100s. I use tilt shift for product photography and the canon was £1400 used v £3500 for the Fuji 110 t/s!
Bravo !!!!! Sigma really should pay you for the video you made. The images here are absolutely beyond gorgeous !!!!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 And they are very healiing somehow.❤
Thanks! It's a rad combo.
105 is fantastic on GFX!
I recently received my fringer for the Nikon system. It's incredible, how many lenses I can use with 100s! I tested sigma art 135 mm, 35 mm, nikkor 85/1,8 all works perfectly and sharply. especially surprised by the cheap 85mm. At 35 there is a small vignette that is easy to fix in the editor. I hope to be able to make a video about my experience soon too.
Waiting for test of 50 1.4
Thank You!
That's awesome. 135 looks fun too.
The sigma art 35mm fx Mount has small vignette? Would Love to see the results from the 85mm 1.8g.
I'm considering this lens for my XH2S. Super images, love 'em.
Awesome. that would be rad to see.
Man, those are gorgeous. For most of the samples, I preferred the lens correction being turned off, but I guess that's unsurprising. I love a good bit of vignette, and the way a vignette drapes across planes of color can really add an extra feeling of texture, like, say, at 3:53.
Thanks! For sure. I add a vignette to most of my panoramic portraits.
Great images with the Sigma 105mm ! Love to see the images out of the 70 to 200mm Sigma ! Again superb images .
Looks like an incredible option
It a big setup. But super fun.
Wow those photos of your wife, has lot of large format character to the image, shallow depth right from the hair, face in focus. Beautiful
Thanks. It really is a beautiful setup.
It was the snowflakes that got me..looked like AI
I have the 105 with Fringer adapter for the GFX, it’s pretty amazing, the native GF 110 f2 is also a beautiful portrait lens,
The GFX100S is a game changer for sure, ❤
Would you trade a 110 f2 for a 105 1.4 or it’s pixel peeping at this point
@@chrismorgancontentmarketin8995 the 110 f2 wins it on fast autofocus, both are superb lenses I don’t have to choose 😄
I already have the 105 Art and now getting a good deal on GF 110, is it worth getting and keeping both? Thinking perhaps 110 being lighter might be easier to carry/use than 105 Art
@@TheGodX it’s worth it having both, the Bokeh the f1.4 lens has is special, but yes the GF110 is lighter and easier to handhold for long periods.
Wow. I use 85 1.4, but I’m not blown away by the photos coming from it. Photos with 105mm look like proper medium format images. I wish it weren’t this heavy😭
I've definitely been bulking up these days with this lens.
When I bought the GFX 100 there was No auto focus adaptor so I sold all my Sigma art lenses (105mm-85mm) and Zeiss Otus 55mm. When i see a Steelsring NK/GFX II Adapter come out I grabbed it ... Wish I would have waited for the fringer ..... hard to get support for the steelsring and it was very Costley... I was able to buy back my Sigma art 85mm 1/4 and I bought the sigma 60-600mm and it works Great as well in 35mm mode and I just bought the Sigma Art 40mm 1/4 and it is Great. Now I hear the Sigma 24mm 1/4 is coming out. I have the G 23mm, 32-64, 45-100, 250mm
250mm looks arad. The next lens for me to try is the Sigma 120-300mm 2.8
@@ThePhotographerGuy Yes I think that would be a good choice Sigma 120-300mm 2.8
Nice sharpness sigma 105.. but i prefer the 110 in terms of weight less 1 lbs
Love this!!! 🤘🏼
It’s a beast.
Really enjoy your videos mate. Great images, insight, and relaxing to watch!
Thanks.
Do you think that lens such as Nikon 135mm 1.8 Plena could be adapted to GFX? I've heard that it can produce image than larger full frame. But maybe there are some other factors that I miss.
In my experience most lenses past 85mm perform pretty well on the larger sensor.
I've been watching and appreciating your video's on adapted lenses to the GFX 100s and I'm considering running a similar set up on a GFX 50s ii. I shoot a handful of weddings per year and I'd like to incorporate it for those (as wel as giving myself a bit of a creative boost). the amount of detail, dynamic range, and the way it looks so true to life is something that I'd absolutely love to be able to work with. I don't need 100 MP, though i'm wondering if the 50s ii's autofocus Is good enough to invest in. I'm not looking for lightning fast, but accurate and not slow in a way where it becomes unusable. does anyone here have experience with a GFX 50s ii on wedding days ?
I was frustrated with the 50s ii autofoucs. Way to much hunting for me, when compared to the 100s and 100 II.
@@ThePhotographerGuy Thank you for your reply. i appreciate it. That’s sad news. As both the 100s and 100 II are a bit out of my budget. At least for now.
Super useful videos - thanks!. Not sure if you answered this somewhere, but do you have the Sigma dock, and have you been updating or calibrating any of these Art lenses? I'm not sure that's even a thing when used on mirrorless.. But since it's an option, I'm curios to know if the AF accuracy can be tweaked.
hey David. I did calibrate a bunch of sigma lenses back when i used the D750s. But with mirrorless I don't think it is necessary since it uses the sensor to gain focus. So it's kinda self calibrating. This is just a result of a sub par focus system. There might be some fine tuning adjustment but 50% off the time it works 100% time so I just check my paid jobs when i'm up close.
photos are amazing, thanks for sharing
Thanks. It's an amazing setup.
nikon 105 1.4 is 1.5 lbs lighter and can also be adapted for those that want less weight.
nice hows does the vignette look on it? I use canon cameras so it's nice that it works on both bodies.
But Nikon is clearly worse in terms of the IQ - less sharp wide opened, lower contrast but more expensive. It feels like technically downgraded version of the Sigma for a premium price. Not worth at all.
Were you using the hood? Does it cause vignette on the GFX?
I never really use hoods.
Hi, love your idea adapting EF lens to GFX. Always wondering how fast the Af is compares to original GF lens? I’ll be tempted to try medium format if the AF is good enough.
In my experience AF is the same or better. Some EF lenses have faster focus motors and are pretty much silent.
@@ThePhotographerGuy that’s a good thing, another box checked where 105 Art outperforms GF 110/2 which is arguably one of the best GF lenses.
Great video and super helpful!
Thanks Anne!
The crop factor applies to aperture.
It doesn't change the amount of light entering the sensor or the lens character. I does allow for a perceived shallower depth of field if you get closer.
@@ThePhotographerGuy
It doesn’t change the amount of light per square millimeter but the larger sensor has more square millimeters so it gets more light. This is why the equivalent aperture changes by the crop factor. To get the same amount of light on the small sensor you’d need a larger aperture so the small sensor can get the same amount of light as the large sensor.
How is the hit rate of the fringer adapter and how does the af compares to native fuji af lenses ?
Hit rate is the same. GFX 100s has the best GFX af, but it’s still hit and miss. I always take 2-3 focus acquisitions to guarantee focus when close.
Can you adapt Sigma Art lenses made for Nikon to the GFX?
I haven't tried but they sell an adapter. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1733771-REG/fringer_fr_nftg1_nikon_f_to_fujifilm.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A6879&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw28W2BhC7ARIsAPerrcJmlzOrsWa6HnzMHlOKeXlMWXp57zPtxSdaUlOi0ebmNv_0430MY3caAkaLEALw_wcB

Sigma 105mm vs Sigma 85 mm which is better than buying wedding photography and fashion photography
I really love the 105 mm. it is very large but it’s so good.
@@ThePhotographerGuy thanks
I want this lens, but its heavy, I own the Sigma 50-100mm f1.8 art zoom lens for Canon 90D and its huge and heavy also.
It is a beast for sure. But it's an insane combo.
I agree about 1.4 being 1.4.
What else can it be?
100%
Thank you for the very interesting video!
I also use the same adapter with the 50sII, but AF is slow.
Is your lens too slow in AF?
From my use with the GFX 50s II the lack of phase detect focus causes a slower AF and more AF hunting. The GFX 100s is a more efficient Auto Focus that the 50s II. I loved the images from the 50sII but i found the AF to be more frustrating. And to be totally clear, the GFX 100s af being better, it's still no where near as good as Canon, Sony, Nikon, and the APS-C fuji line. It's just good enough for Auto Focusing portraits.
thanks so much for the fruitful information! May I know your opinion about the Autofocus?
Autofocus is just as good as the GF 80mm. GFX Autofocus is as good as a Sony A7R2.
very good. Did you have to change the settings to 35mm in the menu to get rid of the vignette?
No. I just turned it on and off in LR.
@@ThePhotographerGuy what I meant was did you turn on or off in the Fuji camera it necessary for that to adapt full frame lenses just wondering if there’s a debate on Facebook about that yet and about coverage
@@artistwithcameras not sure what you mean.
@@artistwithcameras With the GFX 100s and the Fringer EF to GF adapter it will freak out about 90% of the time and not focus and show F 1.0 if you don't turn the camera off and on. Only when changing lenses on the adapter if you leave the adapter on.
Thank you for sharing the information, it has been very useful to me. I have a question, would you adapt a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 to this system? what are your thoughts?
My educated guess would be yes. It should work pretty well and cover the sensor. I would just expect the AF to work for still portraits and landscapes. Nothing with movement. My hope is to try the Sigma 150-300mm in the future.
@@ThePhotographerGuy Thank you so much for the input, I will try it and will share the experience so you can tell your audience. For now, I will continue enjoying your content.
It was very interested, can I use Nikon lenses on gfx 100
Is the fringer adapter fully support
I think that they make a Nikon DSLR adapter but I haven't looked into it.
Da liegt ein Vermögen auf dem Tisch !
Most of the lenses were rentals;) But yes, they add up.
THANKS do u think are there any big difference about color between GFX 50 SII AND GFX 100S ?
I only used the 50s II for a week a while ago so I wouldn't be able to say much about the colors. Just a big difference in Autofocus.
Do you have focus issues with sigma lenses? (Front or back) when using with the fringer adapter? I have a viltrox one and that’s what i get.. thinking of getting the usb dock from sigma
Any advice?
Thanks
Not that I've noticed. The Fringer Adapter is just as accurate and inaccurate as my Fuji 80mm and 45m.
Wow, looks great. How does the AF speed and work compared to the native glass? Is it slower or any less reliable? Does it work well enough in continuous AF for small movements for portraits?
Also looking forward to the reviews on the 85mm, 50mm and 35mm! I recently picked up the 110, 80, & 45 GF lens. Curious to see how the sigma's compare (if the image quality is better and the AF is as good or better I probably will)
Thanks!
Af seems to be pretty darn comparable. 35 and 24 have some corner issues for sure. 105,85,50 all seem to great.
@@ThePhotographerGuy do you like the sigma 50 better than the GF 45?
@@scotthenryphotography5744 Yes. Hoping to have that review wrapped up in a week or so. After 5 days with the 50mm 1.4 from sigma, it's an amazing combo. My next rental will be the canon 50mm 1.2 to test. My GF 45mm will definitely be going up for sale asap.
@@ThePhotographerGuy good to know! My initial testing with the GF 45 has left me wanting more than 2.8 in a lot of cases. I have wondered about the Tamron 45mm 1.8 as well. Now thinking the sigma 50 would be even better..
Great info, would not have expected the Sigma FF to cover such a wide area. But just wondering adding the price of the Fringer + Sigma 85mm f1.4 how much more would the Fuji 80mmf1.7 be?
Savings add up after a few lenses for sure.
I bought the Fringer from Aliexpress for $350 and the Sigma 85mm is now mostly 2nd hand because it is an EF mount lens. Sigma also stops making their new DG DN for EF mount lens. I was able to get a pair of Sigma Art 85mm with UV filter and Fringer under $950. I am also getting a Sigma Art 135mm F1.8 for similar money as the 85mm.
Have you tried the sigma 70mm macro on the gfx?
I haven't. Sounds fun though.
@@ThePhotographerGuy does the Fringer work well ?
@@danwhiteside248 I've only used the Fringer EF version.
Have you ever compared the Fringer EF VS the Fringer NF ?
I haven't used Nikon gear for a few years now. 58mm f1.4 is probably the only lens I'd be interested in.
Is the image circle on the nikon mount version the same as the EF version?
I would guess since it's full frame that it's the same. But haven't tried it.
Does the autofocus work well with the Fringer adapter. Is it nearly as quick as the X-T5. Thanks
The Fringer adapter works about as well as my native glass. The X-T5 is 10 times faster on autofocus.
@@ThePhotographerGuy Thank you
Will you be selling the preset you mentioned that you’re working on ? Is it only for the GFX color scheme?
Canon and Fuji for sure.
Do you have to shot cropped?
No those were all shot un cropped.
I am a Japanese photographer. I want you to try 135mm as well.
Thanks for watching. I'll add it to the list.
i pray everyday canon would just make a RF 105 1.4 to compete with Nikon's
More RF lenses would be pretty sweet.
Landscape shots please.
I'm sure it would be great for landscapes.
Did the auto focus work with these?
Yes. The autofocus is on par with the native glass. 35 and 24 struggled a bit more, but I had the same experience with the native 23mm F4. 105, 85, and 50 were all amazing.
!!!
If one already had the 105, or if it was available at a tremendously better price than the GF110 then perhaps. However, for the sake of 1 stop and far worse peripheral sharpness and vignetting, it's a no from me. I know it's roughly half the price but add in the Fringer (again, a different story if you already have that) and factor in all the tradeoffs and no thanks.
for me the bokeh and character are amazing.
@@ThePhotographerGuy Oh no absolutely, if those subjective aspects are to your liking then go for it. The optical vignetting which causes the swirl is a very polarising aspect of 'character' lenses.
