Man, this reminds me of the first time I heard The Mollusk. It had such a magical feel to it, like you were catching a glimpse into another world. It was the first Ween album I've heard and since then I've never looked back.
That spongebob movie is the whole reason why ocean man is a meme, if people could put that aside then they would realize that ocean man is an actually good song

Fun fact: Gene Ween sang every song on this album, except The Blarney Stone which is Dean Ween (and also parts of I’m Dancing in the Show Tonight), he has a ton of different singing voices for different styles, and gets different sounds also from pitch shifting. I think he’s really underrated not only when it comes to songwriting but also in terms of vocal abilities
I'm so very sorry for your loss bud. I had a similar experience when I was 9. Lost my father then. Life sucked, i was so confused. I think of him. Daily. Be strong brotha!
🙏 Deeply sorry for your loss. My dad left my mother & me (after being very abusive) as well as the state around the time I turned eight- years old. (Though, it was the best thing to ever happen to me and my mother)! Your dad sounds like a really cool (and intellectually curious) man! 😄👍 ...and those guys I consider to be my peers... and my heroes! 😎🤘
Hear me out - in "I'm dancing In the Show Tonight" you can hear the influence for Spongebob and Patricks voices. It's one vocal track, but it seems to switch between a high pitched voice (Spongebob) and a low pitched voice (Patrick). Is it just me??
This is exactly what happened. When Stephen Hillenburg was interested in making a show about underwater creatures he coincidentally heard this album and he got ahold of the band and one of the things they talked about was how the characters of the show would sound. You can clearly hear SpongeBob and Patrick on I’m Dancing in the Show Tonight, SpongeBob on Mutilated Lips, and Mr. Krabs on the Blarny Stone.
This album came out when I was in high school and I was OBSESSED. This video warmed my heart, it was like hearing it for the first time again. At the very beginning, I was like "oh man, wait 'til he gets to 'Buckingham Green'." Didn't disappoint.
I know he's heard, at least, "It's Gonna be a Long Night" and the first verse and maybe some change of "Zoloft" I remember there being a video of it, in a YUNOREVIEW style, gauntlet style.

Loved this video, felt like I was experiencing this album for the first time again. If you even care, I would recommend checking out Quebec by Ween as well. From what I've read and heard, the Ween fanbase seems to regard The Mollusk and Quebec as their two best records. If you liked this, I bet you would like Quebec.

THIS is how WEEN should be reacted to, FULL FUCKING albums, it's just so great, this was my introduction to WEEN and it truly is one of the greatest albums of all time.
Loved the vid man! Surprisingly enough, every song on here was sung by one man; Aaron Freeman (1/2 of the band, they're a duo)! I highly recommend checking out their album Quebec (possible reaction vid?). Keep it up bro!
The guitarist is Michael Melchiondo, the vocalist is Aaron Freeman, the two founders of Ween. This was technically their first album where they had a proper band in the studio with them recording; had drummer for Choc & Cheese. This album I always considered their swan song for what had been their psychedelic/experimental sound up to this point. Once they got a band of musicians together to record with, there sound changed by the next album White Pepper. It was still Ween, but more "grown up", if that makes sense. 😀
I'd hardly suggest that ANYTHING on this album is "simplistic". These are well thought out songs and are all beautifully arranged. Lovely, meaningful solos that have DIRECTION!!
Just stumbled across this video. I love your style of humor and The Mollusk. You exemplify what we all feel while listening to that album. Praise Boognish! Glad to be your newest subscriber :)
Great reaction. I love seeing other people fall in love with Ween. They’ve been my favorite band ever since my buddy turned me on to them 20 years ago. Do some more reactions of their albums! BTW, I’m surprised you didn’t talk more on the album cover. The album art was created by Storm Thorgerson, the same guy who created Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.
The Mollusk is possibly the Best Ween album, though many of them have great value to the ears. I can ONLY listen to "The Mollusk" in sequential order. I think it is best enjoyed in its entirety, and not for its parts.
My daughter loves this song. To her it's the "cool dog barking song". Major parenting accomplishment passing the Ween torch. Edit: and I only let them listen to certain songs. Some might not be too bad with the cursing but some of the concepts and topics are kinda fucked up.
Try out 'California' by Mr. Bungle. If you enjoy Ween's unpredictable musical style, you might enjoy Mr. Bungle's music as well. I'd say that they are a *bit* more unpredictable than Ween on 'California' as well. If you want something more extreme, check out 'Disco Volante'.
As much as I wanted to like Disco, I find it completely un-listenable to this day. I'm a HUGE fan of the first Bungle album - that crazy record dug its way into my brainmeat in my late teens & just wouldn't let go for years. I still put it in my top-5 all-time albums. From the epic time changes to the Lynch samples to the circus themes to the lyrics to the artwork to the violence to the pure genius of it all - it seriously f'd up my consciousness in the best ways possible. Seriously, I was obsessed. In my 45yrs very few albums have grabbed me quite like that one. So when Disco Volante came out I bought it on day 1 & rushed home to smoke one & take it all in. Of course, being a huge Patton & FnM fan, I expected it to be a bit different from the self-titled lp, but I wasn't prepared for the noisy, unstructured insanity of DV at all. I do enjoy California very much, as well as the Fantomas stuff, so a few years ago (around the time of the Peeping Tom release) I decided to go back & give Disco Volante another listen, thinking that maybe without all of the self-imposed "sophomore-album" expectations, that I might enjoy & appreciate it like so many Bungle fans have. I mean, I'm much older now & tastes evolve, right? NOPE! haha Man, I still find it to be beyond terrible - to the point of being completely un-listenable. Disco Volante eludes me like a great joke that I'm not in on.
Thank you for making this reaction. I am a first time viewer of your content and I am glad to say that I will definitely check out more of your content, this was great! Also, I am a super big Ween fan and this was the album that got me into them. Seeing you enjoy this album so much gave me extreme amounts of joy. I wish I had known about Ween when they were releasing albums. It would have been so exciting to hear the new Ween and have zero idea what you're about to hear.
I remember listening to their albums for the first time thinking "oh no, they've lost it!" then listening again "ok, its not so bad", then "actually this is the best thing I've ever heard!". Every album. Except la cucaracha.
I loved that intro, 10 seconds into my first brad taste video and there's an ARTV reference, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY SUB!
2020 is here and I'm here just remenesing with this video when he help me find this album, his reaction made my day every time I rewatch it
Please react to Ween’s Quebec. Thank you and your welcome!!!!
Thanks for the awesome reaction video. It is so fun to watch people hear Ween for the first time.
I have been listening to this album for over 20 years and watching you listen to it was a treat! I still get fucking goosebumps from this amazing album. Loved the rating!

I had my mind scooped out and kicked into sea when i first heard this. Got it as a birthday gift, no idea i had received probably the best music gift ever.

Every album is a journey
