Man, I feel for you. I hate when I have to spend more time trying to figure out why folks do what they do. Best of luck and happy holidays.
I know, it's really frustrating. Thanks for the support!
Happy Thanksgiving! Bummer on the books, keep us updated please! I haven't sent anything to CGC since the damaged books and have not submitted to CBCS. Might be sending to PSA next year, not sure yet.
It's good to hear from you! Hope all is well! Have a great holiday season! I'm sure hoping that PSA updates that label! We'll have to do an update video!
Are you going to try PSA?
Yeah, I will definitely use PSA, but label has to change.
Why are you grading these books? It's not like they're X-men 1's or Hulk 181's...
I wanted to give CBCS a test run. The Neal Adams art, is great so it needed to be slabbed. Villalobos is my favorite artist right now, and I love that Superman 1 facsimile cover, so I had to slab it! Keep watching my friend!
Even if it’s a book I really want and looks great, not paying as much for a cbcs label as I do cgc. Just not as acceptable, to me.
With all the issues we keep getting from CGC, I sure wish this was different. Maybe PSA can bring some parity to the grading industry?
ART is for original art books. It means the ART has been certified as authentic. I think B means verified signature and ungraded.
It means you didn't fill the form out correctly. You have to pay a fee for the grading AND pay a fee for the original art or signature verification service. Or if you did pay both fees, they screwed up and need to have the books returned to resolve, at their expense. Also, some items can't be graded, but that shouldn't be a problem here, since they were comics.
Say you had an artist do a sketch on a backer board, you could get that encapsulated with the ART grade showing it is authentic, but you can't grade a backerboard, so even if you fill that service out on the form, they wouldn't do it.
But price wise, and example of the signature book would have been to pay for the selected grading service PLUS $25 I think for the signature verification to get the yellow label. So right now, 30 day grading is $22 + $25 for signature verification. You would have paid $47 plus the shipping charges. If this was a witnessed signature at a con, and you paid their for them to witness, I think the fee is just $8 instead of $25.
So check your invoice and see what you were charged...
Also, you may want to contact them if you did mess up the form. It's probably still on you, but you may be able to "upgrade" to a grade cheaper than a complete resubmission. I think if you send the book back slabbed, pay for the grading service, and maybe a fee for breaking the book out, you won't have to pay the fee for the signature/art verifcation that you already paid.
It might be a little cheaper than paying for both services again.
Of course if they break it out and something happens to the condition, you will get it back graded in that lower condition. SO pros and cons to saving that money...
Great information! Thanks for sharing!
Still think paying companies to grade ANYTHING is just a waste of time and money. People just pay for grades and that is stupid. ALL GRADING IS SUBJECTIVE - PERIOD!!
Perhaps grading is somewhat subjective. Saddest part however is, you can't even read the book anymore, or look at the beautiful interior art. I mus concur - grading is nothing but I scam. It seems to be mostly do to flipping. Moreover, grading is one thing, encapsulating is a whole other story...! Ridiculous indeed.
Very true, but it does help with identifying restoration, although not 100% of the time.
