Which of JC’s burning questions did you want answered during this episode? We’ll share the results on this week’s Instagram Live! Why is gluten in America worse than in other places? Is oatmeal stripping our body of nutrients? Are nut milks bad for us? What are the dangers of cow dairy? Do vegetable smoothies spike our blood sugar, even if there are no fruits in them? What is the truth about sunscreen? What are the causes and solutions for low sex drive and how to fix them? What are the health benefits of lucid dreaming? What are the top reasons why most diets fail? Is alcohol poison? How to rewire your brain to end food cravings?
What is Mr. Hymans response to the allegation of functional medicine being quakery and pseudoscience? Does he have empirical evidence that supports functional medicine?
I'd love to know more about oatmeal since I eat it regularly. Lol. Also sunscreen dangers and how to rewire food cravings would be great! Also, thanks for the code. I just joined function & can't wait to find out my biological age 🤔
@@MayimBialik my honest opinion..all of these questions need answering.. knowledge is key, and only through knowledge will we have a better understanding of the benefits of eating healthy. My answer to gluten: gluten in the U.S. has higher concentrations of chemicals, herbicides, additives and also preservatives.. which can cause severe abdominal aches and bloating. Here in the U.K. and most parts of Europe Wheat has a different concentration of gluten.. however, some people think this is a myth.. it isn't.. Hard red winter wheat and Hard red spring wheat is mostly used in the U.S., whereas in Europe I believe it is mostly White wheat.. yes, there is a difference. Nut milk does not contain as much protein as cow milk, but has plenty of nutritional value, has lower calories and knight have more calcium.. Oatmeal is great for the body, it is a nutrient rich food, low calorie, and helps with weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight.
I can't decide which question(s) are more important to me. I am interested in them all although with the one about whether nut milk is good or bad, I would add something along the lines of , "Is there nut milks more harmful or more beneficial based upon gender?" (sorry, I don't do Instagram as I avoid trying to keep a bunch of social media accounts, sorry)
Please PLEASE have Dr Barbara O’Neil on your show. She has such unique ability to explain how the body works and what it needs in plain language that absolutely everyone can understand. And she answers all the questions that you raised at the end
Love this!! More of these kinds of podcasts - PLEASE! I'm in menopause and lost 30 pounds contrary to what many women think. At the time many of my co-workers were whining and complaining saying they were gaining weight, going through menopause, hot flashes, etc. They were just excepting it. I refused to do that!! Yes, at first I was gaining weight, but then I literally took 2 weeks and wrote down every single thing that I ate. What an eye opener!! At least half was crap. I slowly, I repeat slowly took those things out and made swaps, incorporating similar things in my way of eating. I was already active in terms of going to the gym, but was soon going to be working from home, so my husband and I do our meal planning once a week by cooking our lean/boneless, skinless chicken breast with dry rub each Sunday and then eat non starchy veggies along with a piece of fruit or two in a day, non fat dairy once a day, some nuts/seeds, oatmeal. We also eat fish like salmon once a week. We go out to eat once a week for a "fun" meal. Have a burger or an ice cream, we're human. We make sure to get our protein in. We walk a lot, several times throughout the day and use dumb bells we found on FB market place. We are leaner than we've ever been and in our 50's. I still have hot flashes for ten years now, but they are less and less but feel great otherwise. Thank you again - keep these food type info podcasts coming!
This is my third attempt going vegan and am now almost a year in. My labs are finally normal! Neuropathy: gone. Hotflashes: gone. Cancer makers: none detected. Depression: Gone. Simply by changing my diet, my autoimmune disorders are now undetectable and I'm no longer in the red zone for a heart attack in a few months. And the best part, my grocery bill is less than half of what it was
Yes!! Same here!! I eat mostly raw but with winter coming I’m sure I’ll be eating cooked food more, but eating just plants has completely changed my life! I no longer have Hashimotos 🎉 and I feel AMAZING! Also, I find the more nutrition the food has, the less food I eat and less often. I literally eat breakfast and a late lunch and that’s all I can do because I just stay full. So, yes, eating this way is WAAAY CHEAPER! ❤
@@plants_and_wellness1574 You still have Hashimoto's but it's probably in remission if you're no longer having symptoms. Are you eating AIP vegan, meaning no nightshades, nuts, beans, grains, refined sugars, alcohol or caffeine, or just regular vegan?
@@KatarinaS. all of the symptoms went away after taking out gluten from my diet and I also took out dairy and red meat. I definitely have to stay far away from bell peppers but I don’t have any issues with tomatoes, although I eat them very infrequently, and beans are a staple of my diet, so are nuts, grains, and caffeine. I only have my two cups in the morning and that’s it. Water for the rest of the day. I eat mostly plants, like I make a açaí bowl for breakfast and top it with kiwi, pumpkin seeds, goji berries (nightshade), barberries, and granola. Lunch is a big salad with homemade dressing, and sometimes I eat seafood if I have it, but I sometimes skip dinner because honestly those two meals keep me full or I’ll have a veggie soup if I am hungry.
Wow! I have huge respect for Dr. Mark Hyman!! I'm so glad you had him on your show!! This is the second video of yours that I've ever watched. Believe me, I am now a big fan. Thank you!!
I know that this may sound “cringey” but I wanted to comment it anyway lol! Everyone has always told me “I’m very mature for my age” because I had to “grow up quickly” due to personal reasons and because I’m interested in concepts that normally 13 yr olds aren’t interested in! I love these podcasts and I get soo excited whenever I open RUclips and see a new one! Thank you Mayim for making all of them they always make my day ❤
It's awesome to have interests that may be above your age rage expectations or peers, but please beware this term can sometimes be a grooming technique. I was also told the same at a young age for the same reasons, but also because of trauma, I found others with cptsd have a similar experience.
It sounds like you have the good kind of “mature” in that you are educating yourself about things which actually matter rather than the other kind of mature where you cater to the needs of everyone else and focus on the façade of seeming like you have everything figured out.
Anything the FDA says to eat I just do the opposite. I recommend reading “Health and Beauty Mastery” by Julian Bannet, that book is a real eye opener about shocking stuff health industry is doing! I completely changed my habits
I love Mayim's frank honesty about not wanting to live to 120 after dealing with autoimmune and chronic issues for most of life thus far. I don't think someone who hasn't dealt with what we have can even fathom the pain and challenges that come from every direction. My health is teetering at 48, but I am now under water with bills and have to work, while being a single mother. I have tried all of the things for my issues. I have no money, time or energy for more.
Yeah, I agree. Do be honest... living to 120 just sounds exhausting to me. I'm mid forties and I already don't exactly feel my best anymore. 10 years of constantly worsening undiagnosed endometriosis really took a toll on me in my 30's. It derailed my career, so I'm only just scraping by financially. I used to be very athletic, but that went to hell as well. No husband or children, either. Finally got diagnosed and luckily the pain is mostly under control now. But I'm having a hard time turning things around now. I can't imagine living another 70 years. I don't *want* to. Doesn't mean, I don't want to be around for a while still. I do enjoy life, for the most part. But it's going to go downhill from now on, no matter what I do to slow down that process. I'm pretty sure, at some point I'm gonna decide that I've had enough of this world and move on as 'gracefully' as possible. Maybe in 20 years, maybe in 30, but pretty certainly not longer than that. Being middle aged sucks already. I don't wanne find out, what it's like to be *old*.
I have hAd issues for most of my life also ( auto immune as well as other things.) You must be perimenopausal by now, but if you need to work past menopause consider bioidentical hormone replacement. See books/ podcasts by Dr. Lisa Mosconi and Dr Mary Claire Haver. Good luck
Another great episode, thanks Mayim, Jonathan and Dr. Hyman. Mayim, Three words-Pelvic Floor Therapy. It was life changing (Shout out to Dr. Jenny), she gave me my life back.
Hey Mayim! I love your channel. I've been following you for a young time. I want you to know I come to your channel a lot especially when I'm feeling down because hearing these stories still give me hope that everything isn't over for me yet. I suffer from severe inferiority complex❤❤❤
Thank you so much for the very kind note. It sounds like you're on a great path forward, and you're not in this alone. Sending happy and healing thoughts your way. We're so happy you're here!! 🧠🫶
A course in miracles teaches that NONE of God’s children are special and ALL of Gods children are special - that means YOU are special. If you feel inferior, it’s simply because you have not discovered your specialness yet. Where you are different from others, could very well be where your specialness is. Blessings 🙏🏻❣️
This is all really great stuff and I do like Dr. Mark, but at times there are those typical doctor 'bedside manners' that come up for me, or just in general, how certain doctor's react or respond to people/patient's and how humans go about things. When he kept saying " it's really not that hard"...it is for many, many folks. socioeconomic status, environments, lifestyle, habits, all the things Mayim brought up. We can't just dismiss all of those factors and not back up " it's really not that hard" with nothing. There is definitely the side of things where , yes, people are ill-informed, mis-informed, have no support by family or friends, resources, etc. That certainly plays a role in trying to get healthier or get into better habits/routines. But I really appreciate Mayim's very first reply back to Dr. Mark in the beginning of the episode about , "well, no, do you think people have ears for nothing" ? There are impediments for sure! she really did put him in his place and it was very necessary to do that.
As someone who has been broke my entire adult life, I disagree that finances are as big an impediment as folks are claiming. I know plenty of people in the same socioeconomic bracket as me who have access to the same grocery stores, they simply don't want to change their habits and don't know how to cook and shop. As for environmental factors, that's a legitimate issue. We need to design cities so that they are walkable, bikable, green, and pleasant, built around smaller neighborhoods where all needs are centrally located and within walking distance. Food deserts are also an issue. Cultural and social factors are another legitimate concern. I personally get tired of people giving me crap for eating heathy, offering me rides when I want to walk, trying to convince ne that what they eat has no impact on their health and they have no control over ehat they eat, offering me candy, tor telling me I'm too skinny because they're not skinny (I'm not too skinny btw). I'm also tired of break rooms filled with pizza and candy, coworkers chugging energy drinks and eating gas station food- it's hard to be around and makes me feel like the odd man out for making good choices. Or the lovely coworker who was nasty to me when I told her I planned on going vegan. I know people live with jerks like this, and I've done so myself. It really shows you a pathetic, petty, mean side of society you don't want to see.
Thank you so much for posting this interesting episode and conversation with Dr. Mark Hyman. So many people can benefit from watching this episode. Much love to you, beautiful Mayim! ❤
The food in the USA is complete crap! Our government doesn’t care about us! Each of us need to be our biggest cheerleader!!! Stop living comfortably, unaware of the connection between the food you’re eating and how you feel!! I’m soon to be 62 & living my best healthful, joyful & peaceful life!! Everyone needs to wake up before it’s too late !!!
This is a great subject for me.. I am a chef, have been for over 25 years, it is so difficult to get people to transition from major processed food to healthy eating.. I've had many difficulties trying to get people to understand how unhealthy most food is, especially fast food, which i find the most disgusting of all, knowing what goes into all that crap. However, what bothers me the most is this.. all that bad food is there for a reason, bad food leads to chronic bad health which leads to people needing bad medications which feeds the pharmaceutical companies which feed the elites who own the companies who rely on people eating that bad food to help line their pockets so they can get richer. Soda pop drinks, potato crisps/chips, chocolate bars, cakes, pastries.. just to name a few, they are all designed to make you addicted and unhealthy. Processed foods are full of sugars and salts and other preservatives. Babies and young children need certain fats in their diets to help their bodies grow, I believe we have been brainwashed into thinking it is alright to eat whatever we want as long as we exercise.. that is wrong, moderation is also wrong.. it is not o.k. to eat ,say, McDonald's and then go to the gym to try and work it out, it is more harmful to do that. We need to do our own "brainwashing" from an early age, I say 6 is a good age to start engineering our children to believe that fast food/processed foods are dangerous to us. I won't go on.. this message is long enough and I don't want to bore you all with my theories, so I'll end with this.. be better to your bodies and brain, pass that on to your children and someday, hopefully soon, we will have a healthy world where everyone is accustomed to eating and living well. Good luck.
Teach children from birth, like I did! My son was never given soda as a child because I prefer water and know how bad it is. He's now 20, never liked soda and the only one of his 3 roommates that even knows how to cook simple, healthy meals. Teach your children how to cook so they won't rely on fast food when they go to college or move out!
@@Sue.M Thank you very much Sue, I appreciate that. It is so unfortunate that most companies care little about the affect their products have on the human body.. why is it that the stuff that is bad for us is so cheap and easy to get than it is to afford something that is healthier for us.. my thinking is this.. if you want to live longer or be healthier then you are forced to work harder and make more money in order to afford such luxury, because that is what they assume a healthy life is, a luxury. I don't know if you've heard the terms...Peter pays Paul, or one hand feeds the other.. well that is what the food industry and the pharmaceutical companies are, Peter being the food industry paying Paul the pharmaceutical company..one hand feeding the other..
Mark says no cheese yet the longest lived folks in the Blue zones and my Italian ancestors live on cheese. Sheep and goat cheese, mozzarella fresh made, aged cheddar occasionally . Cheese is fermented and milk has some of the Estrogen I believe keeps me very youthful. I don't eat processed cheese and my diet is mostly fresh food and organic. I use goat milk for my coffee and eat lean protein and veggies. People guess my age as late 50's/early 60's. I rarely get tired and I have to tons of energy. I am 83. .Another question...if rice soars your glucose, how come the Chinese stay so slim although they live on white rice? I avoid a lot of grains because they make me sick. I also don't eat fried foods. I do sometimes eat rice and sourdough bread. Sorry Mark, I eat cheese.
And how come the Inuit, many of whom still live on whale blubber and whale meat, have low instances of diabetes and heart disease and cancer and live to be just as old as many people? Of course eating real food is better than processed but a plant based diet is not the only way to eat healthy.
I would guess how the animals are raised and how the food is produced matters. As far as the white rice goes- I mean, in the more traditional Japanese meals I've seen, they're definitely eating that white rice with fish, tofu, and vegetables, which will all reduce the glycemic load. I personally don't usually eat white rice because it doesn't agree with me as well as brown, but I imagine if you're health is otherwise fine then it shouldn't matter too much.
Awesome info!! I want to live to 100!! I am 60 and have done yoga my whole life. I bicycle instead of drive a car, luckily i live in a small, bike friendly city! I also eat minimally processed foods, take supplements, see a therapist, acupuncture and practice gratitude for all I have! I know its not easy to cook whole foods all the time, so I make extra so I can have leftovers, even freezing meals for another time. Yes, its difficult to make time to exercise but you can sneak in ways to healthier! I drink herbal teas or water, never drink soda and never gave it to my son as a child. 10 minutes of walking up the stairs, instead of waiting for an elevator or taking a walk after dinner with your spouse/dog or doing some stretching on the floor in front of the TV at the end of the day are all examples of ways to incorporate more excercise into your routine. Teach your children how to cook healthy, simple meals so they don't rely on fast food when they move out. You could also get a bike, like me and pedal your way to a fitter body! By the way, I feel and look better than I did in my 40's so its never to late to start❤❤😊
You & I should get together and team up on doing things that will have us doing the things we wanted to do as children or other things our heart tells us to do. This is how you can live healthier and feel happier to do those important things the universe is prodding us to do. 🌿
Fantastic!!! I have recently began watching Barbara O'Neill with Misty Mountain Retreat. She explains the questions Jonathan has. After seeing her lectures I want to go to Australia just to visit her retreat. *** no matter the cost.
What a fantastic interview, I agree with Jonathan, I think this could have been 5 hours!! So many more questions. The ones you guys asked are fantastic!! Thank you guys 😊
Eric even though this is an old video I am so impressed with your commentary. You are such a sincere person that wants to shed light on this problem. It breaks my heart to see this in a man I respected as a little kid in the 70s at my childhood church in northern CA. I am praying for change. And you!
I made a huge change in my food intake a year ago. My body was in a crisis and I hurt constantly. And had 2-3 migraines a week. NOW I eat No processed foods, no glutens: only fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits , chicken, fish, eggs, whole wheat. I’ve had only 2 migraines in a year! My head is clearer and mental health is balanced. Now I’m adding an exercise program. Feeling so good! Food is medicine!!!
Dr Mark worked at Canyon Ranch when I did. I have followed him for a few yrs. Food is medicine is how I was raised , grew up got reckless with my diet. Now I’m back on the healthy life style. Thank you both as usual great podcast. The question I would like to see answered is about the lucid dreaming, does it actually have health benefits? Been lucid dreaming for many yrs. I’m curious.
Loved this episode. It got me thinking also, I'd love to see you two interview Anthony William - the medical medium. His thyroid healing book was so on point for me which actually really surprised me! No one lese could interview him with science/broader spiritual openness combined. That's why I absolutely LOVE your show.
Really great to see the Lue Elizondo episode. Being well into the UAP topic for many years, it's great to see a scientist like you come at it with an open mind, humour and respect, and was a nice change from UAP podcasts in a way, though they're all fab. It looked like he really enjoyed it too. Nice work Mrs xx
It was great that Jonathan asked Dr Hyman for sn overview because he was right I was overwhelmed with the fact that one of the secrets to health is a lot of mathematics - great episode Mayim ❤
I support this 100% Recently retired from 30 years in Army. Stress beyond belief. I am so sick it’s not worth living. I couldn’t even work the last 2 years. Do you think they care? Wish I would have retired at 20, if not at 8. I was beyond sick then.
I think a big problem is the lack of time and money that financially strained families experience. Who can afford (financially and time-wise) to eat whole foods? It’s not easy in the unites states
I know it’s not related but I just saw the last episode of bbt after binge watching the series and I cried. I didn’t want it to end. Will have to start over… thanks for your wonderful performance. To you and all the wonderful cast.
This is the problem with having a for-profit healthcare (or rather, sick-care) system. There's no incentive to ban harmful additives in our food (like they do in other countries with single-payer healthcare) because they *WANT* to keep us sick and dependent on pharmaceuticals so that insurance companies can pay billions to their shareholders. It’s not about health, it's about keeping us barely living so we can keep paying outrageous premiums all while continuing to be less and less healthy.
Wonderful episode - I loved it!!! And I LOVED Jonathan’s outro - this is awesome!!! Sounds like I need to get on the waiting list for this service. Outstanding products / service for the price point!
Eating a basic healthy diet, getting a good night's sleep and getting out in pure nature used to be accessible to everyone. Now, our soil is so leached of nutrients that even eating fruits and vegetable only give us 50% of the nutrients it used to just decades ago. The food that is more accessible is full of chemicals. Most areas have so much noise and light pollution that sleep isn't easy for some people either, plus the common stresses of life. There are less green spaces and the skies are full of smog anyway so breathing that in isn't good for our health either. Why would someone want to live a long life on this planet where money and economies are worth more than quality of health for everyone and every living thing.
Sure, when you focus on many negative things in this world, it gets disheartening. However, I choose to look at things that are positive and do things I enjoy with people I like & in places I enjoy. It makes a world of difference!! You have the choice to think about what you want in your own head. I choose to have the approach of the cup is half full rather than half over with ✨️ 😊
@@kalifiael3826 sure, positive thinking and cultivating good energy within yourself helps to reduce stress and can do great things for your mental health but realize that type of thinking is a luxury for most people. Positive thinking can't help you when it comes to not being able to breathe due to pollution. If you're lucky enough to live in a healthy body (for now), it's easy to talk about positivity and the glass as half full. That doesn't help when your air and water isn't clean or if you only have access to food that is harming you. I developed an autoimmune disease from something a doctor prescribed to me which left me in a wheelchair for 4 years. It forced me to take a deep dive and research how messed up our medical system, food and environment are. I'm all for meditation and positive thinking. It got me through a lot but that doesn't mean we can just ignore how corrupted our basic human needs have gotten from our air to our food to our environment.
It's common sense what Dr Hyman is saying about heath: eating well, avoiding processed food as much as possible and balancing it with exercise and meditation (i.e. a mindful lifestyle). Yet to claim you'll live a long life because of this is discounting and ignoring other factors. Examples are those in the health business all their lives and having lived, themselves, healthful and balanced lives only to die from heart failure, cancer, stroke and even in their sleep in their 80s, if not earlier. Hanna Kroeger was well-known in the holistic health community in Boulder, Colorado where she ran a natural foods and herb store for many years as well as starting the Peaceful Meadow Retreat. She died at 85 in her sleep. Johnny Weissmuller died from pulmonary edema at the age of 79. Jack LaLanne died of pneumonia at 96 (a pretty good date, actually). Yet there are many more who, despite their healthy habits and lifestyles, died from other causes. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely believe that it's good to eat a healthy diet coupled with balanced exercise and mindfulness. And perhaps by doing so you'll feel better than one with unhealthy habits. Still, there are no guarantees to longevity and there are always those who eat fatty foods, smoke and drink into their very old ages. Genetics and maybe luck can factor in as well.
I was just diagnosed pre-diabetic recently, so I need to work on my weight. I have no desire to live longer, but I want to be healthier while I'm here to avoid more issues as I get older.
Also, keep in mind, "pre diabetic" has different definitions if you are going by the American Diabetic Association guidelines, or by WHO guidelines. And all these guidelines have been LOWERED 15 years ago, so more people would fall into that gategory, and more people can be MEDICATED for it.
@@MissSothePeacefulObserver sorry about your diagnosis, if you wouldn't mind sharing.. how much do you weigh, how old are you, and how tall are you.. I'm asking because I helped somebody I knew who weighed 640 lbs lose 200 lbs in 8 months, he was on a diet of fast food, had clogged arteries and was mostly bed ridden.. he was laughed at by medical staff.. and was given less than a year to live. I put him on a strict diet.. he lived another 7 years.. unfortunately the damage had already been done. I am a chef and would be happy to give you advice.
As someone who ended up pre-diabetic, then had Gestational diabetes and is now diabetic, I would absolutely NOT focus on weight loss at all. Request for a continuous glucose monitor for more info- I pay out of pocket for mine. Or at minimum get a glucose monitor that is old school with the finger pricks and check 4 or 5 times a day (morning and 2 hrs after meals). This will allow you to see what foods are doing what to your blood sugar. You can absolutely improve blood sugar without weightloss. Additionally, building muscle, lowering stress, walking after meals, sleeping well all improve blood sugar levels...none of which may result in weight loss. Most diets for weight loss end up not being sustainable and you gain weight back. Yo-yo dieting is a contributing factor to causing diabetes. Be very careful to not focus on weight but learn all you can about your body and its function. I also would suggest intuitive eating workbook. The official one.
I recommend The Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet book by Donald Hensrud. This book taught me how to measure calories to lose weight. This book also taught that a serving of fruit (favorite is cup of cantaloupe) and a nonstarchy vegetable should be eaten with every meal.
@@michelep.7249 I commend your efforts to bring knowledge to people in need of help.. diet is essential for fighting diabetes..and that book is very helpful.
I want to to listen to you doctors, Mayim and Mark, but even though I am a pretty careful eater and even though it value your thoughts, I need to just read the transcripts because I don’t want to be scolded. I just want the good info and to believe to good intentions.
Love your advice on sleep. Here is reality. I have a deviated septum and allergy so can't breath properly thru my nose so sleep can be difficult. Can't get it fixed because health insurance won't cover it so it would be thousands of dollars that I can not afford. So good sleep is not in the picture. A lifetime of this and I have high blood pressure. Medication is the only alternative I have for keeping that under control. Arthritis. I have to stand for 8 hours a day because I have to work and so I am in pain and dealing with inflammation. I could go on.
I love stuff like this and am just starting to dive into the more hollistic kind of work. Also, is there another Bevisode in the near future?😅It's been a while and I really enjoy those!
Function Health is my Hail Mary to try to figure out a chronic inflammatory condition I’ve had for over ten years that’s doing a number on my lungs and nervous system. It’s like watching a train coming right at you and you can’t off the tracks no matter what you try. Every body part is crossed.
This is all really great advice my problem is changing my habits and learning how to cook with all these different things especially incorperating beans into meals.Where would you suggest to find some really good recipes? I love to exercise and I'm not over weight. I eat pretty healthy 80% of the time. I just have a hard time learning new ways of using and cooking fresh foods etc. Help please 😊
PLEASE discuss the BENZODIAZEPINE (BENZO) Crisis! I/We are on a horrific suffering journey of trying to taper off. This is the only prescribed medication you cannot rehab off. I lost my home, ability to earn a living, my identity as a human being. The PSYCHIATRIC industry/ BIG PHARMA have billions invested in us as customers !!! " THEY DID HARM!" PLEASE HELP!🙏🙏🙏
I've had quite a few ancestors who've lived into their late 90's to past 100+ years. Hopefully that's a good sign. I have to kick a horrible habit and I'm working on it. I'm meditating more and more active which is a good thing. 10:59
Such an important topic that everyone should be covering in a real and meaningful way like you all did. There are so many others championing this cause please see if you can get more on your show. We are poisoning the children in this country and it needs to end!
The body keeps the score. Trauma has a lot to do with our health. We can have all the right diet and exercise but if our mind is preoccupied with trauma our body will suffer regardless.
I'm calling out that there's a wait list, I had no code and was able to sign up within minutes of being on the wait list 😂😂 I don't always subscribe to what he says but I love listening to him, he gets you thinking and questioning in a good way (for me). I like to think I'm a healthy skeptic.
Is it just me or was this a lot of talking without a lot of substance? The interviewers tried to ask direct questions, but I wasn’t impressed with the around the barn answers. If everything was “simple” we would all be healthy. Just “simply” answer a question… help people start. Like.. try walking more than you do now. First thing… try walking around the kitchen or living room.. even walking in one place… do that for five minutes every day. The next week add five minutes. Instead of buying the box of Oreo cookies at the grocery store or the sugar cereal, try making oatmeal or eggs for breakfast. Start with one thing and build on that and be proud of yourself for trying to make some changes. Every week try something to add to the changes. Try something new from the produce isle every week or two. Understand that you didn’t get into poor health and/or habits overnight and it will take time to heal and recover and make better choices.
Went full carnivore for 6 months ago and will never go back. Beef, Butter, Bacon and Eggs! Absolutely nothing else. My body and brain have been transformed.
For walking and steps, HIGHLY recommend a walking pad. I work from home most of the time, and walking while I work has been an absolute game changer. A friend who has one like to listen to audio books or watch TV while on it.
@@jennysiepka9900 Both my friend and I got DeerRun pads. I'm on a budget and wanted something I could easily store in the closet, so I went with the "Q1 Urban Under-Desk Treadmill with Remote" model. At the time I got it (literally just 3-4 weeks ago!) I paid $137 including taxes and (free) shipping. I think they target new user traffic to their site for the discounted prices you'll see. But even if prices have ticked up a bit, I'm sure during the holidays there will be sales!
Mayim, please do an episode on the Harvard Medical School Diet (from Dr. Walter Willet's Eat, Drink, and Be Health). Following this diet, and walking every day, I lost 120 lbs. in 18 months. All recommendations are based on valid and reliable research studies, with an emphasis on larger studies, longitudinal studies, and meta-analyses. For example, one study that Willet analyzes tracked the eating habits and health outcomes of 7,000 women over 10 years. Safe way to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight for life. Willet is the researcher most often cited in peer reviewed journal articles about nutrition.
I have what is possibly a hot take on JC’s question about why most diets fail: diets, in the sense of dieting, fundamentally fail to detach food and/or the acts of planning, preparing, and consuming food from shame. It’s a setup for failure.
Thank you! I agree that the formula I grew up with: eat healthy whole foods, exercise, and 8 hours of sleep is the way to go for a long and productive life! And, I would add: moderation in all thungs... 🙏🙂❤
You are what you eat. Health and wellness begins with the food you put in your mouth. Whole Foods and no refined sugars. Pay a little more now on healthy food so you don’t pay it later for meds and doctor visits hospital stays because you’re fighting disease and frailty.
Mayim, the amount of exercise Mark is suggesting may seem like a lot, but that's only because we love in a culture in which being sedentary has been normalized. And people can absolutely get and stay in shape for free and at home. There are so mamy worlouts folks can do inside in their bedroom. Abusive family members getting in the way of that is a problem though, and I hate that.
I want to get to 80 and fall asleep that evening in my bed and just pass away peacefully. Sounds morbid but I am halfway there & have created a beautiful family. I look after myself and hope to have another “second half” then I’m out!😊
27:44 reminds me of the very first day we walked into Moffitt Cancer center in Tampa so that my husband can begin treatment for non hodgkins lymphoma when I see the landscaper of the facility spraying Round Up all over the garden which causes non hodgkins lymphoma 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Dra. Gracias.m
My mother just told me "No, it's bad for you." when I wanted ultra processed. I guess I was just an agreeable kid, or afraid I'd have to 'go to my room' when we got home, because I never threw fits in stores when I didn't get what I wanted.
For me it's both fight or flight as well as the food (eating vegetarian mostly) has been not very good. I thought I was eating healthier and I literally can't hold in a salad w/o running to the restroom. 😢 I'm a work in progress for sure 3:45
Also, keep in mind, "pre diabetic" has different definitions if you are going by the American Diabetic Association guidelines, or by WHO guidelines. And all these guidelines have been LOWERED 15 years ago, so more people would fall into that gategory, and more people can be MEDICATED for it. The threshold for Type2 Diabetes today, according to the ADA, is above 125 fasting blood sugar level. 30, 40, 50 years ago, the thresehold was above 140! Big Pharma lobbies to get these guidelines lowered so more people will be eilgible for their medication.
Severely limit pasta, bread and rice. It doesn't make it more healthy to put "artisinal" in front of it. Use Quinoa if you need a grain (actually a seed). I stopped eating those processed foods and shed pounds (15 in 2 months). Most importantly it reversed poor health markers, and made me feel 20 years younger.
Still the best way humanity invented. I've lived in the USSR behind the iron curtain. Everything was natural, but you could hardly buy any good food. The problem is overpopulation, not capitalism. And it only gets worse.
What are the top reasons why most diets fail? I want this question answered.

What was exactly the red zone for heart attack?

Dr.
Mayim uncle is a convicted pedophile
It sounds like you have the good kind of “mature” in that you are educating yourself about things which actually matter rather than the other kind of mature where you cater to the needs of everyone else and focus on the façade of seeming like you have everything figured out.
Mayim in highschool and thought Ethiopian jews were despicable
Mayim I think your a disgrace to humanity for looking down at people of color when you were younger
Anything the FDA says to eat I just do the opposite. I recommend reading “Health and Beauty Mastery” by Julian Bannet, that book is a real eye opener about shocking stuff health industry is doing! I completely changed my habits
truly a good book, unfortunately it's all about profit, nothing more, nothing less

Good luck.
You are so not boring, I’ve read every word. One day come back and tell me your theories !!!
@@kalifiael3826 I humbly applaud your efforts.. congratulations on being a wonderful parent.
@@Sigma1_969 Agreed. The difference is education, what my parents didn’t know, I do … and my kids will too!
The cheese here in the US is not even close to that found in Europe. I don’t eat cheese or any dairy but I’m sure I would if I was in Europe.
The blue zones were a hoax. People reported dead relatives as living to collect their government benefits.
China actually has the highest amount of diabetics per capita.

This episode is really interesting! Thank you for breaking down this topic❤. Learned a lot from it! Your podcast is amazing!
The government has really hurt healthcare the most. It not all about profit

I love Dr. Hyman and you too Dr. Bialak! ❤❤❤
Yes luck
BC no one talks about mental health.
I was just diagnosed pre-diabetic recently, so I need to work on my weight. I have no desire to live longer, but I want to be healthier while I'm here to avoid more issues as I get older.

@@janegilbert6280 the anti-inflammatory food plan has worked wonders in my body. Google it!
This was a great episode. Thank you!!
" THEY DID HARM!"
PLEASE HELP!🙏🙏🙏
This is a great suggestion, I’ve had friends in similar situations. Also ADHD drugs!
I've had quite a few ancestors who've lived into their late 90's to past 100+ years. Hopefully that's a good sign. I have to kick a horrible habit and I'm working on it. I'm meditating more and more active which is a good thing. 10:59
Another great podcast, thank you ❤ Dr Mark, most simple diet, for me, is eat every colour everyday and equal amounts raw & cooked
I vote for the question: Do blended smoothies without fruit spike our blood sugar.
I didn't know I needed answers to most of those questions. And now I do!
Went full carnivore for 6 months ago and will never go back.
Beef, Butter, Bacon and Eggs! Absolutely nothing else. My body and brain have been transformed.
Is Moringa good?
Love watching your show
Did Dr Hyman say when Function will be available outside the continental US?
For walking and steps, HIGHLY recommend a walking pad. I work from home most of the time, and walking while I work has been an absolute game changer. A friend who has one like to listen to audio books or watch TV while on it.
What brand of walking pad did you get? TIA
Love you both‼️Thanks for continuing to add value with this podcast.
Is there a way of dealing with epilepsy without medication?
I have what is possibly a hot take on JC’s question about why most diets fail: diets, in the sense of dieting, fundamentally fail to detach food and/or the acts of planning, preparing, and consuming food from shame. It’s a setup for failure.
Thank you! I agree that the formula I grew up with: eat healthy whole foods, exercise, and 8 hours of sleep is the way to go for a long and productive life! And, I would add: moderation in all thungs... 🙏🙂❤
*Things lol
I put the link of this vid in Gemini and got a full summary in seconds. What a time to be alive😂
I want to get to 80 and fall asleep that evening in my bed and just pass away peacefully.
Sounds morbid but I am halfway there & have created a beautiful family. I look after myself and hope to have another “second half” then I’m out!😊
When you are 80 you won’t feel anywhere ready to go. So long as we’re here we have important work to do.

It’s an effort to make more money, not necessarily a conspiracy. Unfortunately we live in a free market where misinformation is prevalent.

It’s a capitalist system unwanted bad consequence. Benefits over health. Companies over individuals…
Still the best way humanity invented. I've lived in the USSR behind the iron curtain. Everything was natural, but you could hardly buy any good food. The problem is overpopulation, not capitalism. And it only gets worse.
Don’t do what other people are doing. Run the other way and see what happens.
