The thing is, DC Metro Police have a desk in the NCRCC alongside the USSS and every other agency in the NCR. They can literally walk across the ops floor and deconflict in real time. It really shouldn't have been an issue as DV movements happen regularly along side federal, state, local, and DoD aviation operations in the SFRA/FRZ.

Funny to me how some things matter a lot in a situation, then with with a slightly different situation it doesn’t matter at all.
I fly in the area that the top right corner of the area shown all the time. I’m just a civilian, instructing students in light planes. Been on the same frequency as one of the presidential transport planes, so I know it was using the AF1 calling, so president was on board. They crossed directly over me with 1,000’ vertical separation, just the same as any two aircraft do all the time.
Yet here, a law enforcement aircraft on an actual mission couldn’t get within several miles of VM1. Makes a whole lot of sense, doesn’t it?

by protocol they were "Clearing the Airspace" in one Three - Anticipating MARINE ONES flight path down the River through zone three .. meaning that the Helos potentially could have been MUCH closer together in a few minutes ... and in their defense ... police helicopter pursuits are VERY Dynamic and goe directions dictated by the Robbers. They also REQUIRE the Guardian Crew to be laser focused on the robbery pursuit down below..... They don't want Marine ONE to be anywhere near where a police helicopter might have to maneuver rapidly in any direction. It just wasn't safe ... and it was the right call !! Yes I am a military Pilot and Law Enforcement. Guardian didn't like the answer but the also knew it was the right call. PS: Helicopter Support is OPTIONAL and the vast majority of PURSUITS both Foot and Car happen without the luxury of an air unit. Just the facts.

Funny story. When I was getting my TAS credentials to fly out and into Patomac Airfeid, VKX, inside the FRZ I was still working and held a high-level clearance with DOD.
I contacted the investigating authority and said, "Hey guys, I have an active DOD TS/SCI clearance. If you have access to JPAS I'll give you my SSN and you can look me up". That's exactly what I was thinking. The HMX-1 hangars are along the river at Bolling - Anacostia, down near the USN Labs and WHCA. And POTUS was supposedly traveling to (as Marine 1 was headed to) ILG. Meaning one would assume (I know ) Marine 1 was going from its hangar to the WH, picking up pax, and then then heading to ILG. I find it hard understand why POTUS would even be aboard the a/c at that point in the flight. Which then makes me wonder why that a/c was using the Marine1 call sign at that point in its trip.

Housed in Herndon, VA, the National Capital Regional Coordination Center [NCRCC] is an interagency group that monitors D.C.'s prohibited airspace 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. The Washington, DC, area is the only area of the country with such a center. The Department of Defense, FAA, the Secret Service, Customs, and Border Protection and the U.S. Capitol Police, along with the TSA, which acts as the executive agency, are represented at NCRCC full-time. During major events or search operations, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the U.S. Park Police, the Coast Guard and local law enforcement, including D.C. Police, are also NCRCC participants. Each agency or department at NCRCC is responsible for its own mission and jurisdiction as it relates to airspace security. However, the participants work together in identifying airspace that are violated or may violate prohibited airspace. While the response to each possible aircraft violation is decided by each government entity independently of the others, the information is immediately
shared by all participants at the NCRCC.

Excellent example of how unnecessarily disruptive presidential transport is in the US. I don’t know any other country that totally shuts down all airport ground and air operations for VIP transport to the extent done so in the US.
Another example from my own experience was a life flight needing to respond to a scene call. Secret Service wouldn’t allow us to take off even though the the President wasn’t due to take off for another half hour. (Helo’s base was within the TFR)
We had another case where the helo had landed at the hospital before the TFR went into effect but it went into place prior to them leaving. Initially they were cleared to return to base but just after taking off the secret service called, furious, instructing they return to the hospital.
They kept the helo on the pad at the hospital for 2 whole days while the president was in town, taking away a vital resource. So absolutely incredibly unnecessary.

When the President first entered office they would routinely shut down traffic when he flew into Wilmington. That included I-95, I-295, I-495 and Rt-141. That's a bottleneck for traffic flowing between DC, Philly and NYC. You can imagine the backup. Miles and miles in both directions.

It's an old crutch to prevent the beginning of a received transmission from being missed. By using a throwaway word like "and" or "uhh" to give the receiver something to break squelch before any actual info is transmitted. It also is an effective remedy for lesser trained radio ops who key up at the same time they start to talk. It's basically a courtesy.

I know sometimes when the presidents want to play golf they'll call the country clubs and a lot of times they won't let them play because the country clubs don't want to close everything down and tell all the members you have to stay off the course, you would think they would be honored to have the president but most of the time they're not. I don't mean golf courses that are in Washington I'm talking about when the president's traveling and he goes to other states or cities, many times the local Country clubs won't let the president play.
