    Jinjer recommendations: Judgement (& Punishment) - One Take Vocal Performance, Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019, Teacher, Teacher, Retrospection, Pit of Consciousness (Live in Kiev). Tati isn't the only woman who can flip from very pretty clean vocals to harsh/false-fold/fry, she's just the best at it.

      @@vvoof2601 The crispness of the tone of the instruments in this studio live recording is fantastic. The technical recording of her voice is top notch. There is also subtle effects added like layering and echo. Effects that are not overdone, that fits the recording very well. It is VERY well made. Maybe the layerings can be called cheating though. :)
      You might LIKE the real live recordings better, and so might I. But they will never come up to this sound quality.
      And, as far as I have experienced, their live recordings are not even top notch for live recordings. Other bands do it much better. Take e.g. a listen to Lovebites live recordings. They are almost unreal good. They have some sound technicians from Finland that do it for them.

    Well, this song is the perfect trap: composition, singing, lyrics.
    And well, it IS live but there is postproduction. And Tati can switch effortless between singing and growling. How do I know? Well, I`ve seen them live now four times... 😁🤘7
    OK, with songs by Jinjer you can`t really go wrong, almost all of them are like rollercoasters only with rollercoasters you know where to end...
    The most recommended following the rabbit-hole would probably be the live version of "Perennial" from Wacken, studio version of "Teacher, teacher", "Vortex" is the best example I know of destroying a song artfully, "Home back" and "Wallflower" gives you the chills, " On the top" and "Pit of consciousness" (both live from Kiev are brilliant and highlight Jinjer`s quality as a live band, "I speak astronomy" is Tati`s only love song (well, kind of...)... well choose any song, you can`t go wrong
    To other bands, well,
    - Velja, also from Ukraine with "Rigor Mortis" or "Ode for a tombone" (eh, kind of, the title is ridiculously long!)
    - Spiritbox a Canadian band: "Blessed be", "Holy Roller" or "Circle with me" and many others ("Mara effect", a three-part, 15min long masterpiece!)
    - Infected Rain from Moldova with "Orphan Soul" or "The Earth mantra"...
    - Seas on the Moon, also Moldova featuring the singer of Infected Rain with "Sanctuary" or "Bad omen"....
    Yeah" I think that`s enough for a start... ☺

      the only thing live on this video is the drums, as per the band. everything else is taken from the album recording. Not to take anything away from the band, Tati is amazing in the studio or live, and the band is fantastic

      @@75gobrien Well, I won`t argue and maybe you really have some mor information, I don`r really care. I know Eugene and Roman can pull that off because they`ve already done that live in a music shop in the states some years ago. Tati`s choices are different than on the studio version where you hear her singing and growling at the same time. Obwiously Vlad`s part is new. Over all thelive session version sounds far better than the CD version.

  • @saltydroog854
    @saltydroog854 Год назад +8

    It's absolutely a live session. It's been through post production, but the sound you are hearing was recorded in one take and this is the video of that take. Facts. There is a backing track, and that is present when they play live too. It contains click tracks in everyone's ears, and doubling and harmonizing on her vocals.
    In fact, there is almost no strain on her voice during the screaming because her voice is not engaged. It's called a Vestibular fold (false fold) atonal scream. Her true vocal chords are not engaged at all. Any pitch variation you hear in the scream comes from the shape and manipulation of the vocal tract and change of resonant space. The most stressful part of this performance for her was likely the mixed voice belt that was in the final part of the song.

  • @rofyle
    @rofyle Год назад +2

    It is indeed a live session. Watch video of her on stage in front of an audience. Check out their live performance of "Who's Gonna Be the One?" At one point during the performance you catch a momentary squawk of feedback from her mic come through the PA system letting you know it's really her you are hearing. There's no strain showing on her neck, no grimace on her face. In fact, she's moving across the stage, bouncing, interacting with the audience. Towards the end she gets a little breathless from all the dancing, but manages to sustain her sound.
    The band is from Ukraine. They began in 2010, and received no support from any label and no sponsorship from any music manufacturer for a good portion of their early career. They traveled eastern Europe in a van, playing any venue that would let them play, while working on one thing - perfecting their live sound. They knew that if they were going to have any chance at success, then they would have to do it by building a core audience up through their live sound. They did it too. They sound incredible live. They are one of the few bands that sound better live than in studio. Their hardcore fans are all about, "You gotta hear them live. You have to hear and see them live to really get it."

  • @coder4liberty
    @coder4liberty Год назад +21

    Funny you should mention Otep. Tatiana learned that harsh vocal technique because she heard bands like Otep doing it. She is well known for being able to switch quickly from one to another. The technique uses the "false vocal folds" which extend over your actual vocal chords to keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who learn the technique learn to control those otherwise involuntary muscles to make sound. They can switch like that because the sound is coming from two completely different structures although if they want to use their vocal chords along with the false folds they can. The technique is very difficult to learn and do it right.
    This video is a live session but a live session isn't the same as a live performance. Prior to the early 70s every band started their recordings with a live session where everyone was playing in the same room. Mostly because there were only 4 and later 8 tracks to work with if that. They would then dub additional things on top of the original recording. Now it's just done if the band is exceptional playing together (Jinjer is) and the desire is to capture that magic on the recording. In this case the version of this song on King of Everything has a different drummer and uses slightly different instrumentation. This video was done to introduce their new drummer at the time.
    The list of good Jinjer songs on RUclips is really long but most people listen to Perennial Live at Waken Open Air as their next one. Having said that the list is so long I usually just post a link to a playlist I put together which I play regularly. It's all live stuff. ruclips.net/p/PLhlYsqoR9XLEpHTbaOovrpa1p8L2uZ81G

    It's live. It has some post production in it, a bit of layering, which you can hear, as well as some pitch correction. But this is Tati- watch her live! She is using her false vocal cords to create this sound- a video by Elizabeth Zharoff (@TheCharismaticVoice) actually shows this by having a friend swallow a camera and then watching his vocal cords. And Tati has very clean diction when she does this. But this video was recorded to showcase Vlad, the new drummer! And he is himself pretty amazing. But I love when people see what this little gamin lady can do- she blows your mind!

    Very nice reaction guys! If you really want to witness how Jinjer is good, just check Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev: it's a very dark song but it's one of the song that showcases how talented this band is and how Tatiana's vocals are just out of this world!
    Last album: Wallflower and there will be a new one at the end of this year. Most of the songs were written at the start of russian invasion, when the boys were locked down in Ukraine....so it's expected to be a very strong album, it's gonna hit hard!
    And as usual: Slava Ukrianii 💙💛

    The re-release of Inhale, Don't Breathe has bonus live tracks added. For a good range of Jinjer's music, I'd go with I Speak Astronomy (prog metal), Justice And Punishment (reggae metal), Vortex, Home Back, Teacher, Teacher and Bad Water.

    Hey guys, I just discovered your channel and I love your reaction. I can verify that Tatiana did all those vocals (although it does sound like she did double some of the harsh vocals in post-production, but the base scream/growl harsh vocals are all her). I saw them live at the House of Blues in Boston this past November and both Tatiana and the rest of the band kicked A$$! I’ve been a musician since I was a young kid and I’ve played in multiple bands in several genres over the decades, but I was never into metal with harsh vocals until I discovered Jinjer near the end of 2021. I instantly loved them because of their sophisticated songwriting, fantastic musicianship and the incredible vocals of Tatiana, with her ability to instantly transition back and forth from her beautiful clean vocals to some of the best harsh vocals I’ve heard, female or male. I’d definitely recommend checking out the “live from Wacken 2019” video of their song Perennial (which displays her ability to kick a$$ in a live concert setting), Tatiana’s “live one-take vocal performance” video of their song Judgement and Punishment and the official video for their song Wallflower (the song has a very cool jazz-like groove at the beginning that slowly builds to a big finish and the lyrics and video relate Tatiana’s issues of being an introvert in the very public music industry and her tendency to procrastinate and the pressure she feels from the other band members to finish the lyrics and record her vocals after they have recorded all the music for an album).

    Thanks for mentioning Otep!! They are the only other band that can do what she does it's amazing that you know that band! Still Tatiana is the most amazing female vocalist

    This was one of the best reactions to this song that I have ever seen🤣🥹🤣
    Tatiana is truly the "Queen of Growl". Otep is great too but for second place world class Growler, I would place young Alex from the Russian Band Slaughter to Prevail. While I enjoy Jinjer, I tend to prefer Nightwish and Lovebites type Metal. Despite much nostalgia from 80's bands, my top favorite Metal of all time is Animals as Leaders which I listen to daily alternating with Dimash.🤘🌹💜🌹🤘
    Great reaction guys👍👍😎 Happy to have found you through Diana.
    🥰🥰🥰Hugs from a Dimash fan in Canada🇨🇦
