The live version at Wacken is just awesome. This song is about seasonal depression ,perenneials are plants that die off for winter and then regrow in the spring.

As others have said, this song presents the annual cycle of perennial plants as a metaphor for seasonal affective disorder. Tatiana's beautiful dance in the snow represents nature's annual rebirth / Tati's annual relief from the effects of SAD.

This song is about how people get seasonal depression when fall and winter come until the spring comes again. She's talking about nature dying and then rising again. In Ukraine the winters can be pretty brutal but the summer very hot.

I love this song. Canadian and Ukrainian winters are very similar and SAD is a common problem with the lower light levels and isolation from others during the heavy snowy winters. Despite it's creepy feel, the lyrics are talking about winter dormancy, and it highlights the "phoenix effect" that occurs every spring to perennial plants. I work in Horticulture so the first time I heard these lyrics they brought me to tears because they were so beautiful.🤘🌹❤️‍🔥🌹🤘

Funny you mentioned “home” - while this song isn’t necessarily about that, the song “Home Back” is precisely about that. Definitely worth checking out - the OMV is fucking unreal. 🤘🏻

But that one is way less popular.

The songs Pit of Consciousness and Retrospection from Jinjer are really good, some of their best actually. You guys should give them a listen! The paramedic who is metalhead demands it! lol

Your interpretation of the lyrics was really interesting, i have never thaught about it that way and i would be absolutely amazed if they wrote it with that second meaning in mind but as far as i know, the song is about the changing seasons.
So when summer ends, nature dies,or falls into a coma only to be reborn again in spring.
Tatiana is emotionally connected to nature, thats the explenation i got first time i listened to it.
Either way highly poetic and absolutely amazing song over all.
This is my favorit band .

@@module79l28 of course not but that's the sad thing about it.
Ukraine has always been at war with russia...
So the "current war" is just a recent little situation that has been going on for multible decades now.
Its just more intense from time to time.

I wish you had watched their "live from Wacken 2019" video for this song. Not only does it show how great they sound in a large concert setting, I think the music has more energy and Tatiana's vocals and stage presence are phenomenal. BTW, I like your format for doing reactions/reviews and you seem to be genuinely nice guys. If you'd like to check out any other Jinjer songs, I would highly recommend watching the official video for their song Wallflower. Tatiana does mostly beautiful clean vocals and the music a very cool jazz-like feel in the first half and then it builds up to a big finish. The video is also very well done and it helps to reinforce the lyrics about Tatiana being an introvert in the very public music business along with her tendency to procrastinate and the pressure she feels from the band members to finish the lyrics and record her vocals after they have finished all the music for an album. Another video that highlights Tatiana's vocal abilities is the "one take vocal performance" video for their song Judgement and Punishment (the song has a cool mix of reggae and heavier metal sections and the video has the added benefit of showing beautiful Tatiana in a bikini top. 😆).

    Title of song is Perennial.
    Lyrics begin:
"This Autumn feels like funeral to me, the longest song of grief. And NOT for what has passed, but for what shall last."
An actual perennial could have written those lyrics.
How do you get war from that? Especially when the song was written and recorded many years before the war began? Lol

It makes a lot more sense now that you explain it. But Ukraine has had many conflicts over the centuries. I think that's what we were thinking.

The autumn feels like funeral to me...
Exhausted nature is so tragic and suicidal; how spectacular she is when she kills herself; death throes are crawling to her toes as the ladt leaf is falling from her head
(The autumn colors are caused by the biological process whereby the tree shuts down and stores its nutrients in its roots)
...an endless song of grief, not for what has passed, but for what shall last.
(Tati struggles with chronic depression which gets worse in the winter with SAD causing self destructive feelings)
Overall I think the song is reminding herself that spring will come and she can make it through.
As to losing their homes, all but Vlad (who is from western Ukraine) had to leave their hometown in eastern Ukraine behind during the 2014 war. Home Back (about the war specifically) and Retrospection (about being separated from their families on the other side of the battle lines) are great official videos.
Perennial live at Wacken is still a viable reaction option.
Pit of Consciousness is a deep dive into her mental health struggles
    Cheers!

@@weaintraisedrightpodcast This is a really complex song even by Tati standards. My original interpretation was way more complex heh. I'm still only 90% sure she's talking about nature like a lover in places not layering in bit about a love affair.
