I'm so giddy and can't wait to get my batting from fatquarter shop only because they actually sell it pre-cut. 😮 I didn't know they sold it like this. Most of my blocks are 12.5" unfinished. I bought their 14" x 14" pre-cut batting. It's also in rolls of different widths, I bought the 2" width. I'm so happy and can't wait to try my hand at quilt as you go. I also wanted to share this just in case anyone is like me and didn't know this. 🤗
Hello! I hope you had a joyful day. I just got to sit down with my hand quilting and watch your video. I always learn something new from you so thank you very much for that. I hope you have a lovely week ahead. Thank you for posting this video and sharing your time and talent.
My 86 year old father asked me to make him a t-shirt quilt. He was a volunteer firefighter for many years in California. After each fire was put out they would make a t-shirt to remember the event. I am a confident seamstress but never attempted a quilt. I watched your t-shirt quilt video many times. It was the perfect guide. Thank you so much! My daddy was so happy 😀
Aussies are the best people . you guys are so kind and caring . Thank you so much. I love the internet for these purposes , meeting people from around the world that is just the best . I am not new to sewing , back in the day I used to make clothes at home for me and my family including a Prom dress . I cross stitch, water color , knit ,crochet , paper craft , color , as well as general crafting . I have yet to make a quilt , so the QAYG is perfect for me as I only have a small Brother quilting machine. I am just getting my mind wrapped around the process of starting one .
I've been watching for only a short time. I binge watched several so far. You're both very talented people. I want to thank you for showing me how to make such beautiful blocks, & quilts. My confidence has improved, as well as my sewing skills. I'm hooked on your creativity. Shine on.
What a wonderful wealth of information and knowledge. I long for the day when my work looks anywhere near as good and neat as yours. I'm working on it. Thank you so much for this video and your delightful repertoire.
Thank you so much for sharing the leader. Last week I saw a popular quilting person say it was a cheap machine if the fabric was getting chewed. Glad to know I can continue on my throw away machine & not have my fabric chewed.😊
Thank you so very much for your videos. I'm new to quilting and was having such a struggle with quilting on my little machine. I'm no "spring chick" so handling a quilt and shoving it thru the area was backbreaking. Since I found your videos, I've created more quilts, and follow your quilt-as-you-go techniques. Absolutely wonderful! I also enjoy all of your ideas and techniques. Thank you again!!!
I really appreciate and enjoy the videos you've been sharing in regard to QAYG techniques. One thing that continues to perplex me, though, is how to assemble all the smaller components of a QAYG into a larger finished quilt. I have an exceptionally small space in which to work and a few years ago I made two queen-size QAYG bed quilts. Making the small 10" components was a joy, but when it came to joining them together it very quickly became too difficult to assemble all those components in my own space. I wound up having to occupy space on someone else's dining room table for nearly a week to wrestle both beasts into submission and finally complete the projects. It was an arduous and painful task and I wound up straining my relationship with the person who's space I had used. I've seen many videos (not just yours) that demonstrate how to make and/or join small blocks, but I have yet to find a video that shows anyone actually FINISHING a large QYAG project. I'm really curious and look forward to seeing how you're going to join all your blocks and sections into the larger final piece.
Yes, making the small blocks are fun and easy. Joining them into a lap size quilt is easy enough but big quilts are definitely more challenging. You'll see joining larger sections in our Island Home quilt series as the quilt grows. This video shows joining a 60" square quilt together and gives tips on how to handle the quilt as it grows: ruclips.net/video/Comx-UlTemU/видео.html
@@PatternPooleTV Thanks very much for the link. The methods you used are virtually identical to how I finished my two quilts (both 80"x100"). It was such a struggle I don't think I'll attempt to make another one quite so big. 😉 You make it look a lot easier than my own experience. I do look forward to seeing you assemble this quilt as well. Thanks again for all the great, informative vids!! ❤
Delightful to watch, learn, and be reminded of "best ways " to achieve quilting success! I would add, cut your pieces son after getting the fabric...if you wait too long and need more of a print, it may not be there when you go back to the store or order on line...Enjoy your day.
I love all your videos and I have asked to become a member on your FB page. Thank you for all that you do. So many little things in quilting….but if done right the outcome is spectacular even if its a simple pot holder!
I love watching your videos. I am in the US and also a mother of daughters. You look like you are having such fun together. Keep the videos coming. I am learning a lot from you both.
I am never going to make an entire quilt as QAYG... but I love the process and would love to see you make bigger sections that are out together for a quilt at the end. I have a long arm and an embroidery sewing machine. I prefer to quilt on my sewing machine with the hoops and big quilts are a strain. I can see quilting four bigger sections to make a bed size quilt with your method and since I love watching for entertainment ... I thought I would suggest a possible future project. I can take blocks and create a bigger piece with one-fourth the blocks and then make what would essentially be a big block and join it with your method. Thank you for sharing and for the binding video! I've never seen that before and it is great for utility quilts for certain.
I completed a QAYG t-shirt quilt for a friend and watched your videos many times. I had such fun completing that quilt...flaws and all. These tips are great. I am quite the novice still but I am hoping that the "love" I put into my sewing, offsets any of the oops that happen along with it. Thank you for posting these videos and for the very complete explanations that go along with them!
I really appreciate your final tip of enjoying the process. I think we all forget this sometime, I know I do. I get bogged down by the quilts that are gifts that "need" to be done, these deadline that I put on myself, then quilting becomes a drudgery and not the joy it is meant to be. I pushed pause on my gift pile to do the Island of Home series to learn new techniques and to be more creative. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you both.
I love learning from both of you as well as all our group members. I had to put my sewing machine aside for a couple months until I could afford to get it repaired. I just got it back yesterday. So now I can finish my daughter's T-shirt quilt!
Thank you for your videos. I don’t have a long arm quilter and I made a couple larger quilts and it was a struggle but finished them because of all the work and money invested in. I’m working on a couple of new quilts using your tips, thank you
I love watching you two, mother and daughter. Thank you for your videos. Found your videos in 2021 while in rehab. Couldn’t wait to be able to try your techniques. Was able to finish a couple of UFOs with your cover strips. I have been able to make and finish a couple of quilts. I’m still trying to finish a couple of blocks from your first quilt a long. But I’m back in rehab again trying to learn how to walk again. It’s going slower this time. But I’ll get there and back to my sewing machine and quilting, I’ve got so many quilts planned in this brain of mine. That’s the only problem with watching your videos. I want to had another pattern to the list. Thank You both. God Bless U2. ❤️
Hello Betty, sending you all our love and wishing you a speedy recovery. Stay positive and keep thinking about all those beautiful quilts that you're going to make!
Thanks again for another great tutorial. I got a hint from a friend about leaders and enders. With you scraps make them Half Square Triangles (HST). Eventually, you will have heaps of HST to make into quilts or crazy borders for a quilt. I make 2.5" or 3.5" HST.
Another tip for leading fabrics: pair up your scraps to sew a scrap quilt without trying by using them as your leaders and enders. If you stop your needle before getting to the end of the piece it wont eat your fabric (generally speaking, some fabrics do not agree with my machine and have been eaten but not often).
Perfect, perfect. I am not on fb or instagram so don't see what everybody does, so this has been very helpful. I have been doing all your quilt alongs, including the current one and have learned so much. I especially like all your fabrics which are so different from the ones here in the U.S. and so for the Island home quilt along I am using some of the Kaffe Fassett fabrics that resemble the aboriginal designs. The BEST thing I have learned from you is how to do quilt as you go and I will be forever grateful for showing us all the ways you do that. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I love your sweater, Monica. Instead of using an awl, I use my scwissors, I can follow my seam all the way through to the needle with one blade each side of the needle.
Appreciated blanket stitch tip eg. choosing stitch that doesn’t go backwards before going forward, thank you. Also appreciated tip about ‘beginners & Enders’, also avoids thread knotting! Regarding ‘glueing’ to nest (align) seams - I personally would find this messy, time consuming & an unnecessary expense, my preference is to pin or use my finger tips. But like most things, personal preference is what’s it’s about. Thank you again for this tutorial, been very informative!
