Some people have noticed that there appears to be dust/debris on the dial in some parts of the video. This dust is actually on top of the crystal and can be easily wiped away with a cloth (or blown away). My bedroom can get quite dusty and over a few hours of filming, a few specs of dust fell onto the watch. Ideally, I would've done reshoots to make sure you don't see this dust, but this video was already taking too long to produce so I decided to include these shots in anyways.
I deeply admire the craftsmanship and precision of high-end quartz calibers like those in Citizen’s The Citizen line. One of the most satisfying aspects is watching the second hand fall perfectly on each second index, without any residual motion-a stark contrast to the behavior of cheaper quartz movements. The flawless accuracy and attention to detail in these high-precision quartz movements make them stand out, and in many ways, this exact and deliberate motion feels even more rewarding than the sweeping second hand of a mechanical watch. It’s a true testament to technological excellence and horological artistry.
If anyone is interested, the paper dials aren’t actually dyed. There’s a tinted plastic disc that covers the dial. That kind of surprised me when I found out. These watches are incredible. One of these will be my next grail. The line up on everything is incredible, especially the second hand. I’ve got an eco-drive that’s over 23 years old now and still going strong with no services. I wore that watch hard. This is a very exciting watch for me. Great review thanks!
This watch lineup is so underrated. I recently picked up the red 54Z model too and for a brief while owned the black dial 40mm version (which made me realize I like the smaller size). It is truly an incredible watch
What is your wrist size? I’m tossing up between the 37.5mm and the 40mm. I have a 7 1/4” wrist or slightly over 19cm. I love the smaller size but can’t tell if it will wear smaller or larger than it’s measurements.
Damn, this dial and watch would compliment and elevate my current collection to a crazy level. Everyone need a fun, stunning, high end piece in their life.
I have the earlier A660 movement that has kept perfect time for over two years. It doesn’t have the flashy eagle on the dial, but has a beautiful simple cream colored dial. It’s understated and could easily pass for a $40 mall watch, but upon closer inspection is superbly crafted in perfect detail. I prefer the conservative simplicity of my watch, but I know it is the flagship of the Citizen wristwatch line.
blows most watches out of the water thanks to its extreme affordability compared to the swiss brands. $4000 for one of these or $10000 for a cheap Rolex or 4 Hundred Thousand for a patek phillippe.. are those watches really worth that much more?
Note at 2:21 and 3:43 flecks of dust/dirt on the face of the watch. Also note some apparent adhesive surrounding the 7 o'clock indice at 2:21. Not sure why folks don't just save a LOT of money and own one of the Casio Oceanus watches. Those watches have zaratsu polishing, gorgeous dials, hands that hit the indices dead on every time and are solar powered. Oh, and did I mention Oceanus watches are accurate at +/- 0 seconds per year since they are radio controlled?? GAME OVER.
The dirt/adhesives you mentioned are on top of the crystal, not on the dial. My room can get quite dusty and a few specs of dust inevitably fall onto the watch. Ideally, I should've done reshoots to replace any footage that contained dust, but it took a few hours of filming just to make this video. But I agree that the Casio Oceanus series is a respectable lineup.
i've been eyeing the Chronomasters for a few years now. Thanks for sharing. I just cannot decide on which dial color I want. White washi paper, blue washi paper, red washi paper, regular blue. I already have a Seiko Snowflake so I'm not sure if I should get the white washi paper dial or not. It seems like a lot of collectors don't really pay any attention to the Chronomasters. Possibly because they are hard to get.
I currently have 13 Citizens. I find the Chronomasters very appealing and may some day purchase one. However, I already have several highly accurate dress watches (Citizen and Bulova), so another one is not real high on my ‘gotta buy now’ list.
Beautiful dial. I am very interested in possibly purchasing this watch. I have to laugh at the geeks who claim to hate quartz. However, if it is a Seiko or a G-Shock, they love it. I guess their microwave is the most expensive clock in the house.
What a masterpiece......👏bravo. Though admittedly, I am a huge Grand Seiko fan, I would happily prefer this over any of the 9F Quartz Series of watches, that Grand Seiko makes. I just feel the the Chronomaster line is a more highly finished and thus better value line of watches. Thats a lot of watch, for the price. Great presentation. Cheers
I'm tempted by the steel-blue 'Indigo washi' 40mm version but the idea of a dyed paper dial doesn't inspire confidence . . . Is it fairly robust in spite of this innovation?
This attention to detail is only available on much higher cost Swiss brands ( The bevelling on the dial indices & hands are incredible.. & the polishing is mirror like). These look comparable to the finishing on the typical Grand Seiko. A true competitor to that competing Japanese brand.

If the watch is stopped for a few seconds, you will have to push the crown back in, wait till the seconds hand reach the 12 o'clock position, pull out the crown, adjust to the correct time, then push back the crown. This is the only way to set it to the correct time accurately.
