There are two different ways you can choose to calculate your auto expenses. 1. Adding up your receipts, or 2. Adding up the business miles you drove. It's either one or the other, not both. If your choosing #1. (receipts) and your total car expenses are $5000.00 then you claim $5000.00. If your choosing method #2. and going by the miles, then you multiply your total business miles by the current IRS Standard Mileage rate for that year. For example if the mileage rate is 57.5% and you drove 10,000. miles, then you multiply 10,000. by 57.5% and that is the money you claim.
I’m a door dasher myself. I put 25% off of my total earnings separate in an envelope somewhere that I do not touch at all until I need it for the end of the year for taxes. Keep all of the receipts track all the mileage (stride app) and be disciplined about putting money away. So we don’t have to get screwed at the end of the year.

Paying quarterly is easier so you dont have to pay a big chunk at the end of the year, but you can definitely pay at the end of the year. Also you dont have to have the taxes paid right at the end. They just need to be paid before you file.
Thanks for the video. This year was my first time doing taxes as a dasher. Just finished mine yesterday. Didn't get much back but at least I didn't have to pay.

Hello, thanks for all of the information. What are your recommendations for tax preparation? Do you prefer tax professional, turbotax, or another route?
Question. Uber eats allows this, what if I am delivering as a delagate under someone elses account. They do the taxes but the miles were on my car, they don't have a car. Can they claim my miles? Very good video, thank you👍
I've been looking at videos but haven't really found much about this. How exactly do you file for taxes. I started this year and have seen talk about quarterly vs yearly taxes. I'm currently 19 years old and am a little confused on how to file doordash taxes. Is there a form we can get from the app? Do we just take some 20% of the earnings and pay that for taxes?
Well if you started this year you won’t have to worry about taxes until 2022. If you dashed at all in 2020 doordash will email and mail you a form showing how much you made. Then you put that information in on like TurboTax (that’s what I use) if you want to know more check out my latest video
Hello just wanted to say great videos. I do have a question about phones and write offs. So I take my earnings - milage and then do I do my cellphone bill off that or do I do my cellphone bill after I take 30% away? $500(earnings) - $250( milage) = $250 then do I deduct my cellphone of $100 which makes my new total $150 to be taxed 30% or do I take that $100 and do it after I take the 30%
I heard someone say if you report car damage then you have to be paying higher insurance that says you use your car as your job. For example I totaled my truck multi-apping. Cohld I claim all the damage for that on my taxes ??
In tracking mileage, do we need to track a per day mileage or a total mileage for the year? For example, do we need daily itemized mileage, like a spreadsheet showing days and mileage or just a lump sum total?
Questions. In 2022 when we file for 2021 that will be my first year adding on deductions such as mileage for doordash, ubereats and amazon flex. I also have a W2 job that will of course be filed with a 1040 or whatever. Since I've never done this before and have no idea what it all looks like, does mileage spent need to be separated by which company you're working for? Like if I'm multiapping doordash and uber eats at the same time will I need to separate miles spent on doordash deliveries and uber eats deliveries? Or is it a sum of all miles driven for work purposes in its own category. Next question is do the miles spent getting to your market hotspot from your house count. And do the miles spent driving home from your end spot count as well? If not, what if you accepted an order before leaving your house, then would it count?
The different apps track your mileage for those specific apps. They will send you a email when tax time is approaching. Use those miles abs you’ll be fine since it will correspond with the app you’re using
I agree about less taxes but if DoorDash is your only job and you don't make that much money you want to minimize deductions because you still want some money for social security. I doubt most people don't even think about that.
Hey Dashers, door dash let’s customers get away with not tipping or tipping a dollar. The customer think they deserve food delivered to them for free. While your burning your gas and putting wear and tear on your car. There should be a min tip of $5. With in a 7 mile radius and go up from there. It’s like cheap freight. Keep excepting dashes under $7.00 door dash will continue to waist your fuel and time. Every dasher needs to quit excepting non tipping or cheap customers orders. If they can not tip well then they need to get off there lazy ass and pick there own food up. I always tip at least five and if they haft to drive more than 10 miles I either give them a cash tip or tip $10 plus for the convince of getting home delivery. That even goes for grocery delivery
Doordash just needs to give their drivers the full delivery fee that they charge the customers! I placed an order thru doordash and they added a delivery fee of $10.98 and service fee of $4.50plus an option for a tip but after paying all the fees i can see why the customers don't want to tip! They think we are getting the full delivery fee. But as a dasher myself I know doordash doesn't give the full delivery fee because they only pay $2.50-$3.00
hey man I have a question. I’ve done a couple of calculations so far so here are rough estimates of my numbers, I’ve been dashing around a month, started late march and so far let’s say I’ve made $1600. I took away about 30% of that which is roughly $470. according to my deductions, I’ve roughly driven over 1000 miles, and it comes out to a little over $600 that I can deduct. Since my deductions are more than what I owe, would that mean that as of this moment, I’d owe money come tax season 2023? I’ve been stressing out recently it’s just confusing, this is my only source of income this year. Early march I quit my regular W-2 job though, anything helps tho!
You are confusing tax deduction with tax credit ... a deduction reduces the amount of income that is taxable, which in turn will probably reduce the amount of tax you owe. It is not a direct deduction from the amount of tax you owe. You are not alone - people confuse this all the time. In your estimate - you would subtract the $600 from the $1600 of income - not from the $470 in estimated taxes. (I realize these are estimates) So that reduces your taxable income down to $1000, which lowers the amount of tax you owe.
I made 33k in less than 12 months. I have a new car. I have to get a tune up on it. I started out with 104k miles and now I have 141k miles. Did about 3350 deliveries in total. But I never tracked anything like that. Can you help me out with some advice?

as a general rule of thumb, to save in the long run, what percentage of my weekly earnings should i set aside from doordash, for example, your 800$+ week, what percentage of that check would you set aside for taxes if you were saving each week just to be safe come tax time, main thing im trying to find out from al these youtube vids
Question- do I need the mileage to claim expenses. So, here’s the I do gig work part time. I don’t track my miles but I keep all my expenses for taxes. My tax preparer states he can’t use my expenses without mileage spent on the gig work. I’d that true? Thanks for your response.
Hi! I’ve been doing door dash for 3 months now as part time. I’ve been back and forth using my car and my husbands. Do I need to have a separate spread sheet for both cars? I track the mileage, but my tax guy gave me a pamphlet for just one vehicle.
Got a big question.. When deducting expenses, does food count? Such as your meal from a drive-thru during your break? It seems like no-one has ever told me a clear answer, & hopefully someone knowledgeable is able to help me out with this. Thanks.
No. Food is not an expense if it’s just for you. Technically if you went to meet a client a paid for the meal I believe it can be deducted but that’s not related to doordash.
Thank you for the important information! I have a question for you regarding the mileage tracking . I’ve made 1195 a week for 181 deliveries . If I keep recording at starting and ending of each trip delivered, I’ll be missing oncoming orders . Because usually I get an order right after confirming delivery . It’s just enough time to jump in car and go for the pick up! Do you track miles for each delivery or only at the starting dashing and when your end it? Thank you
@@thuan123red I heard that the milage tracked by doordash is not always 100% accurate and you’re better off tracking it on your own. At least this way you can ease your mind at knowing your mileage is 100% accurate since you did it yourself.
So how do you pay your taxes from door dashed do the IRS give you an estimated amount that you have to pay and for the mileage app could I just show them it off my phone or screenshot it and print it out
There are two different ways you can choose to calculate your auto expenses. 1. Adding up your receipts, or 2. Adding up the business miles you drove. It's either one or the other, not both. If your choosing method #2. and going by the miles, then you multiply your total business miles by the current IRS Standard Mileage rate for that year. For example if the mileage rate is 57.5% and you drove 10,000. miles, then you multiply 10,000. by 57.5% and that is the money you claim.

@@beautifulqueen9651 I have QuickBooks Self Employed, and it can generate form 1040-ES for me, which is the quarterly payment form.
@@BouncinBrandon What do you mean you rather get a tax return ? So if you make quarterly payments, you get money back at the end of the year? I'm sorry if I sound dumb. I'm new to it all and I am trying to figure out a few things before I start door dashing.
Jesus saves. Love you guys.
as a general rule of thumb, to save in the long run, what percentage of my weekly earnings should i set aside from doordash, for example, your 800$+ week, what percentage of that check would you set aside for taxes if you were saving each week just to be safe come tax time, main thing im trying to find out from al these youtube vids
From 800$ I’d set aside $160. Generally a nice rule is to set aside 20%
If u have a dependent it would help out alot.
Am I screwed if I didn’t track my miles?
Question- do I need the mileage to claim expenses. So, here’s the I do gig work part time. I don’t track my miles but I keep all my expenses for taxes. My tax preparer states he can’t use my expenses without mileage spent on the gig work. I’d that true? Thanks for your response.
Hi! I’ve been doing door dash for 3 months now as part time. I’ve been back and forth using my car and my husbands. Do I need to have a separate spread sheet for both cars? I track the mileage, but my tax guy gave me a pamphlet for just one vehicle.
So dash time means business time while driving…. What about active time on the road? Does that all count as business mileage?
Yeah why wouldn’t it?
Active time is the time that you’re doing a delivery. Dash time is just the general time from start to finish, in a day.
@@SuperNathan777 do I keep track of active time miles or dash time miles
@@Nix11999 think of it this way. If you’re using your vehicle for business and not personal then that’s the miles you need to track for tax purposes.
Technically if you went to meet a client a paid for the meal I believe it can be deducted but that’s not related to doordash.
it took over 2 and a half minutes of your video to finally get to the reason why I was watching.
please stop doing that
Thanks for video. You should make another video for beginners on how to use Doordash app.
I forgot to track my miles, how can I help self to filed my taxes. Do I go to the dealership and gather records? Does doordash sends you milage?
DoorDash sent me an email of an estimated miles for the 2021 tax year . Only counted picked & delivered miles
Thank you
I start my tracking when I start my shift, then end my tracking when I finish my shift
@@Moore.Driven great to know, thank you. & thank you to Spirit of Enlightenment who asked this enlightening question 😌
I thought door dash kept track of the milage is that true? Or do we just have to keep a record?
@@thuan123red I heard that the milage tracked by doordash is not always 100% accurate and you’re better off tracking it on your own. At least this way you can ease your mind at knowing your mileage is 100% accurate since you did it yourself.
@@mackenziebolton5741 Where/how do I see the mileage being tracked by DoorDash?
Can you please tell us an "acceptable" mileage per income? Like last year taxes how much mileage did you claim vs how much you made for doordash?
I’m not sure how many miles I drove this year is that a problem? I took pictures of the miles after I ended each shift. Does that work?
So how do you pay your taxes from door dashed do the IRS give you an estimated amount that you have to pay and for the mileage app could I just show them it off my phone or screenshot it and print it out
Does Everlance track speed also when driving?
So ur week one example what would u pay on that
