    I just began doordashing and on my first day, I got an acme order of 8 water bottle cases and I was seriously considering canceling the order. I was only going to make 6 dollars from the 6 mile order, but since it was my 3rd dash ever, I went through with it. When I got to the lady’s door, she was a super sweet older women and she tipped me 40 fuckin dollars. I don’t think I’ll ever get a better tip lmao.

    Been dashing for years and Sundays are always my BEST days. I dash all day that day. I find that Saturdays I get way more sitting times. I bet because of this tip I think there are more dashers out on Saturdays. Once you learn how each restaurant works at what times it helps with deciding to begin with on taking an order or not. I also take orders regularly out of zone but I work on the edge of a zone usually. I can get it up to $30 an hour on busy times but over the years have learned to be picky on orders I do esp at peek times. I do not take $5 orders at busy times except at lunch time for the close working lunch crowd it will pay off then at times.

    • @stacey62293
      @stacey62293 2 года назад

      @Sandie Lotta I work a lot of Sundays. It is one of my best days here and easiest at restaurants. I do find Saturdays are good but since so many people are out that day the restaurants get way to busy I find. I am in Jacksonville. I will put in all day since I live 30 mins out of town I work the slow hours too which always drops my average. Like I said I get 20-30 during busy times here. But with the slow times it drops to be about 15-20 average. Looks like it is picking up too so it might go up a bit.

  • @dianabogert2327
    @dianabogert2327 2 года назад +13

    It's crazy how the miles work. I have had orders that were 10 miles away but the estimated time was 11 minutes because it was literally all highway and they were right off the exit. Then I'll do an order that's 8.8 miles that took 17 minutes because half was hwy and the other half was a long stretch of road going thru several stop lights. So knowing your map is essential, traffic, certain times of day like rush hour etc in decisions . The weekends and holidays are a great opportunity to take long distance orders because the traffic is moving. I still look at the total payout though because of gas and you just want to keep in mind the money loss to gas also so I too try to stay definitely over the $1 to mile ratio on long distance orders. I will say many of the orders you took I would have declined lol but here I can drive a couple miles in one direction and be out my zone so looks like your zones are bigger.

  • @rayhunnit9457
    @rayhunnit9457 2 года назад +82

    Honestly the tip about not letting miles scare you has helped me. Recently got back into dashing and took an Uber eats order that was 18 miles total, 2 different pick ups but ended up making $33 within a hour. Sure I could’ve wait and probably made the same with less miles but I already had it so why take the chance of waiting for a possibly better delivery? Used to do it that way and ended up just sitting there declining orders for the next 20 minutes

    • @williambrown4357
      @williambrown4357 2 года назад +3

      Amen! A lot of RUclipsrs who do the deliveries give that advice which is actually not so good of advice. That is, if you are doing this full time. I've realized that many of the RUclipsr or really full time at doing the deliveries. Cuz, how can you be full time at this quality RUclips videos multiple times per day. It just doesn't work. I'm not downing them on what they do because they make good money at RUclips videos that gets lots of views and likes and subscriptions. But, if you're going to do this full time it is better not to turn down deliveries.

    I’m about to start doing this as a side gig here in the suburbs of NY. Torn btwn doing it on a scooter vs a car. The scooter gets 100mpg, is quicker thru traffic, easier to park & to get in & out of restaurants faster… while a car protects you from the elements like rain & cold. Plus with a car you can squeeze in some rideshares when food delivery is slow. But the gas & maintenance costs driving a car are a lot higher.

    Ever since I started watching your videos, I tip higher, and sometimes add on extra cash. I’m not sure how much the dasher is getting paid. Does door dash pay them something too, or is it JUST the tip? Cuz there’s always a delivery fee too when I order.

    I only dash weekends but I dash for 12hrs per day for a 24hr weekend no big deal for me it’s better to keep a $25hr pay rate so you can make $600 per week but if you could only average $20 it’s ok you still make $500. I’m also gonna start doing Uber eats every day on my ebike killing 2 birds with one stone getting a work out and making my money. I’ve been training myself going none stop for at least 1hr per day to the point where a 20 mile ride feels like a brisk walk in the park. I don’t expect big money but I expect at least $60 per shift adding to that $500 so it’ll be extra income I only expect to work lunch to early dinner especially since day light savings is almost over.

    The worst is when you have a shitty signal and nothing is working right in the app and every time you scan something it has to think about it and sometimes it errors and you have to scan things multiple times then if you have to make a substitution, it’s almost impossible because I have to think about it for five minutes and then it doesn’t work. I was at a Dollar General and I had to keep going outside to get a signal and then nothing would scan in the store

    I have a question, so for the first order you took in the video, $10 for 6 miles, that’s about $1.50 per mile which is good, but if you were in a smaller market like me, Tulsa OK, and it was only taking you to a suburban neighborhood that’s 4-6 miles away BUT the drop off isn’t close to any busy restaurant chain / fast food joint, would you decline it or take it? You have to consider the drive back.
    Because In my case it would be a round trip of 12 miles for $10, I’d be spending money to deliver that order for free at that point, I’m finding it hard to position myself to get orders right after my first drop off.
    Like I have to up my standards to $2 a mile to cover for the drive back to the restaurants if I want to stay in my “zone” but then again if I try to wait for $2/mile I’ll never get anything and I’ll just be sitting there wasting time declining orders.
