    Now you can come to the champion-method: no wash-sebum only!
    I love it since 5 years. The hair are healthy-no splits, the scalp is fine and my hair is overlong, till thigh!

    Also zinc and omega-3 ( anything anti inflammatory will help with scalp issues. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc. If you like popcorn, try it roasted and salted so yummy. Omega-3 : Flax seed, chia seeds, oily fish

    A note for those using the shampoo method with acv vinegar rinse with hard water. I have really hard water and first need to saturate my hair in a baking soda/water solution (1/2 tsp. to 1 cup of water), shampoo, rinse with regular water, then the acv rinse is kept in- if I rinse it completely out, it doesn't detangle at all. Sarah is right, you don't need to dunk your head in it (I am guilty of this). You can spritz or just add slowly.

    Your hair looks outstanding. I'm a guy and trying to get away from chemical shampoos and conditioners due to my scalp getting irritated. I've got some Chagrin Valley soap bar samples on their way and I'm hoping they work out well. The only real challenge is that I style my hair with a pomade, although I do use one that is oil based and all natural. I'm just hoping that the shampoo bars can actually get the added oils out of my hair. Only way to find out is to experiment, I suppose!

    Go to the RUclips search box and search for the video titled "DIY kaffir lime shampoo". It's a thousand year old recipe that Thai women still swear by for a reason. And all you need is kaffir limes and water and a blender and cheese cloth. It also lasts for 6 months room temperature and one year in your fridge.

    I literally just use water only to wash my hair once a week and my hair is healthy/long. It seems that many of these "No Poo" users still use many kinds of products.

    • @eduardaarrais
      @eduardaarrais 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah that bugs me a lot! When they say "no poo" they actually mean "no comercial shampoos" because they have sulfates. Water only is the ultimate no poo method because it's literally no shampoo. I wonder if people who say no poo meaning no cheap shampoos full of chemicals consider vegan shampoo no poo...

      No shampoo can means exactly what it means.. no shampoo. But other methods can include other natural ingredients.. as long as they don’t contain harmful chemicals for your hair. I use rye flour and it’s literally magic.

    I use a tea tree / turmeric soap followed by acv / tea tree / water for conditioner. So far I am loving it. My hair was very sticky in the beginning as all the toxins were washing off. But now it feels good and my wavy hair has gotten a bit curlier. Personally I would never go back to shampoo.

      ***** Well it has been over two weeks and my hair is still slightly sticky even when using ACV. I am going to try tea tree castile soap made my Dr. Bronner's and see what that does and if I can buy it in bulk that would be even better. We shall see what happens.

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      creations landscape designs / earth friendly landscapes Definitely get yourself a boar bristle brush and use it once a day or every other day. With the bar of soap lather it up n your hands first then apply it to your scalp and massage. After you have done that a couple of times use the bar directly at your roots and lather. It is different than the conventional method of shampoo but it still cleanses very well!!

    Thank you so much for posting this video! Finally!!! :) I've been doing no-poo for 3 months. The first month, I used baking soda and ACV. But baking soda left my hair pretty waxy with some white stuff. Then I found your youtube channel, so for the 2nd month, I used Chagrin Valley shampoo bar you mentioned and ACV. I go to the gym everyday so basically I used that shampoo bar and ACV every day and my hair felt squeaky and dry. Then I found this "water only" method, which I started a month ago. As long as I massage my scalp and brush well, my hair seems pretty good! Not dry, not too greasy. But I started having dandruff and can't help the greasy hair on top of my head. Omg, sometimes I get so gross... also I get so self-conscious when somebody approaches behind me... Anyway though, I'm trying to get through this tough time and stick with No Poo!!!
    p.s.
    I love your voice, I think you are SO PRETTY, and as someone says down below, you seem so nice and down to earth!!!

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      Congrats on reaching 3 months! :) Hmm you wrote that you used the shampoo bars every day? Have you tried pushing back your wash days? I only wash my hair once a week maybe that's why your hair got so dry using that method? Maybe with the water only method you can do Water Only for most of the month and do a cleansing wash once in that month? Anyways! keep experimenting! I give you kudos for sticking with it even through the tough time! I am STILL trying to find a remedy for my dandruff so if I ever do discover the natural method for it i'll be sure to let you know :) .
      I literally just apply coconut oil straight to my skin as a lotion. It is oily but if you have time, apply it, sit and let it absorb for a bit and then get dressed. If you're in a rush apply it and take a towel and lightly brush it over your skin to absorb the excess oil. For my face I use a line called "Live Clean" they avoid harsh chemicals, SLS, parabens, phthalates, DEA, and phosphates they are 98% natural using plant derived ingredients. I incorporate all natural home made stuff here and there when I can but usually I don't have time to make it so i use Live Clean in between :)
      p.s. you are too sweet hahah thank you so much. xx that's literally the kindest comment

      +Emily Julson the whole point of no poo is to get away from commerical shampoos and shampoos that have sulfates/silicone. most shampoo bars are all natural using organic plant extracts/oils
      "No poo"[1] (or no shampoo) is a collective term for methods of washing hair without commercial shampoo

    I have been using Chagrin Valley shampoo bars for nearly 4 years now. I adore them so much. I would NEVER go back. I am so happy to see more people using their products :3! I use ACV with the bars too, but only twice a month. (I use the dunk and drip method but im gonna try the spray one soon!) I always use cold water to rinse my hair after washing with the shampoo bar. I try so hard to lessen my hair washes, but because of my skin/dietary issues i struggle to let my hair naturally clean itself, so I wash it 3/4 times a week. >.< I love your channel, just subscribed :3

Hope you like it better too! :) uses less ACV! Well that's okay! At least you are using natural shampoo bars to clean your hair! :) and thank you so much! xx

    Hi Sarah:
    Love yours videos and updates! My waist long hair used to be dry at ends, oily at roots, clumps falling out, split ends everywhere, had washed with regular shampoo and ACV every 2-3 days. I've been off and on the no poo method for almost 3 years now, but just started to commit all the way January 2015. So, every 6 days, I shampoo with JR Ligget's bar and rinse with homemade diluted chamomile tea vinegar. I brush out redistribute my roots oils every two days. My hair has been in better condition: hair is soft, shiny, less splits, stronger. So far so good, my only concern is that, after I air dry, area closes to head feel soft and great, but the mid section doesn't seem to ever dry, its not tangy, but hair doesn't seem to separate, looks greasy, but its not.
    I'm thinking about trying your spray method, instead squeeze water bottle way with the vinegar rinse? Have you experienced this hair not drying all the way after air drying, and this looks greasy buts its not kind of a feel? If so, do you have any advise? Thank you!

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      Yes I have experienced that before! I experienced it at the beginning of my honey method! I know exactly what you're talking about! and even though you brush it it still clumps together during the day. I never really found the solution for the specific problem but I found that after a few days it'd go back to normal. I haven't had that in a while. I find that - that only happens to me now if I do oil treatments and didn't have a proper well cleanse. So the spraying of the vinegar might have been the solution, but I have no clue. If I do figure it out I'll let you know! :)

    • @misssoandso
      @misssoandso 9 лет назад

      ***** Thank you for your responds and encouragements : ] Can I ask why you like the spray bottle method instead of the pouring method? is it just more convenient that its already made, or did it actually improve your hair results?

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      No problem! In this video I mention how I like the spraying better because I don't use up a lot of ACV since you're only spraying enough to dampen your hair. You are also evenly distributing it by spraying. Lastly, because I am not pouring it, my scalp isn't getting as concentrated as it used to which means when I sweat at the gym I don't smell the ACV. The efficiency of it already being made and can sit in the shower is just a bonus! :)

    Thank you for updating!! Awesome as always and I really love new update!! I've been using honey method for almost 3 months, but I'm not sure my hair is washed perfectly when I use that method. My hair gets dirty 2 days after washing even though I've been doing no-poo for 3 months. Your method sounds really great, using shampoo bar and honey method alternately. I'll try it!! Anyway, I have one quick question, do you always dry up your hair with hair dryer after you wash your hair? I've heard that no-pooer should dry up their hair completely after washing hair because water will make scalp much drier if they don't dry it up. But I think that dries and damages my hair much more. I want to know your opinion and what you do after washing hair. :) thanks!!

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      Thanks for your kind comment Sabrina lee ! No problem anytime! 98% of the time, I air dry my hair! If I am going out that night and I am showering after work AND it's my wash day, I will usually use a blow dryer but only on my roots and even so, I am not completely drying it. I am only blow drying it enough to help it dry faster. However, yes I agree I find blowdrying it would be damaging so if you were to consider drying up your hair to try it out, maybe just do the roots! This is my first time hearing that fact! hmm maybe i'll have to consider that for my scalp if I can't find a method to completely get rid of my dandruff issue. Thanks so much! :)xx

    Why don't you grind up some oats and water make a scalp treatment for your dandruff? People use it for irritated skin. Your scalp is irritated skin. Or figure out the pH of your hair, I don't know rub one of those strips near your scalp when really itchy to see what it reads. Or instead of oatmeal maybe a few TBS of lemon juice for an hour and then rinse to balance the pH. How does one figure out scalp pH? You said lemon helped with your pits. Maybe you body chemistry would react well to this. I wish my job was just to give people ideas. I would love to know how it goes if you try any of these. 'Cause I'm not doing the research...I don't get dandruff.

    Ahhhi know how you feel with the dandruff ): ive been natural for almost 4 years and have had drandruff the whole time.. I have tried so many different natural and organic shampoo brands, essential oils, organic oils, no poo, acv, lemon and so many teas and nothing works.. The only thing that keeps it under control is 100% pure volumizing shampoo but on third day hair onwards the dandruff will get worse and worse. Hair doesn't get oily but i have to wash it often cause thats the only thing that helps (tried washing once a week but dandruff was just too much) its so frustrating! ): wonder why we both do everything right but have dandruff, very strange xxx

      @sarahhtran  8 лет назад

      +Erin Deer Right?! it is definitely frustrating, however it's great to know that you also do not plan to go back to regular shampoo. I just can't. Even though these natural methods aren't doing all too much for my dandruff I can't see myself ever using conventional shampoos! So, at least we aren't using toxic chemicals :)

      The dandruff comes from your SAD diet. Standard American Diet. Go plant vegan, non GMO and mostly organic. After your head and neck detox, so will your scalp. Dandruff is toxic buildup, like a defense mechanism shedding also through scalp. I hope this helps.

      Hi everyone, I want to say that I have been natural for...probably 3 getting closer to 4 years. I’ve tried the aloe Vera method, the egg method, the honey method, the baking soda , the literally nothing method, the bars, rice, and natural liquid formulas. My first almost two years I had the worst dandruff in the world, especially on baking soda, rice, egg and honey methods. And then I felt like every shampoo bar under the sun didn’t work for me. But then I found a natural liquid shampoo that did, so I stuck with it, no dandruff, but it still came in a plastic bottle that my region does not recycle, which is super frustrating. So I really wanted to find a bar. And finally last week, literally that recent, I found a bar of natural body soap, and I tried it on my hair. And this one worked. The dandruff was always in the methods that weren’t balanced for My hair and specifically scalp. They didn’t fit my scalp. It took me two years to find a natural something that did, and in this case it was a liquid formula, ready made and all natural. But in terms of a bar of shampoo, it took me almost a full 4 years to find one that worked and didn’t create dandruff or dryness at all. The dandruff in my experience Does go away once you find a method that agrees with the skin on your scalp. Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it fits us. Keep testing out brands until you find the one that agrees with you. I also want to put a disclaimer and say I did not waste my money buying bars every week. I did careful and thorough and long research about each bar before trying it, and I fully used, or gifted, each one that didn’t work. And luckily for me for the recipients it did work. Take your time and don’t give up. If I found it after almost 4 years, so can you. :)

    I'm so glad I came across your video I have been *THIS* close to giving up the no poo method. I've been on it since January 2014...
    It gets so frustrating now. I've been doing the baking soda and acv or white vinegar and boar bristle brush (sometimes, but I bought a paddle one when I started and had long hair but I've got a bob now so it doesn't do much for me). I then moved on to using eggs cause we have chickens but I didn't like using up all the eggs, I'm really considering doing the honey since we have bees (but the honey is not ready to be harvested.... which means I have to go buy some and that'll probably just get eaten by my whole family)... sigh. Anywho I'm now going to look into some of these shampoo bars, but probably a different company because of shipping prices and such. Have you tried using tea tree oil for dandruff? I hear it's suppose to work and I'd love to try it but it's too pricey for me imo. Thank you again! :)

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      Stephanie Wilson Hi Steph! :) We must have started at the same time because I began my no-poo journey in January 2014 as well! :) BS & ACV was great for cleansing when I first began and it made my scalp slightly better but not much and I tried the tea tree oil when I first started with the baking soda method and it didn't do much. I then switched to the honey for a more moisturizing method and the pH balance in honey is the same range as our scalp and that helped as well and definitely was a bit better than the baking soda but once again didnt resolve my dandruff :( But I do find alternating between the honey and natural shampoo bars helpful since you develop this waxy feeling after a while but it's all good now with this new routine. I am currently testing out lemons for dandruff to see if it helps at all but I am definitely still on the hunt for something that will completely get rid of it! Are you Canadian? There are natural shampoo bars on Etsy you can try out and I've heard of people using J.R. Liggetts

      I'm from New Zealand, and after much hunting at almost 2AM I've found some shampoo bars I'm really excited to try from a NZ company. I find lemons are great mostly for when I don't want to smell like vinegar (I use the white when I'm having a really bad dandruff day/week) but really anything acidic I find works okay. I tried about 1/4 tsp of citric acid with a cup of water a few times when I didn't have lemons. But I do try to keep a couple of cubes of frozen lemon juice in the freezer. Haha. I will say I cheated a couple of times last week and used my Lush shower gel to wash my hair, I'm going to blame it on the weather because it's getting colder now and I don't like the whole process when all I want to do is get out of the shower and into my pjs. But I am enjoying eggs maybe once in a while. Really cleans my hair thoroughly -kind of like a shampoo, rinse and repeat feel. :)

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      Lol ah don't even feel bad about that! It's more important that you're making an effort to stick to the switch :) Honestly the less chemicals the better so the fact that you've been no poo for this long and you slip once last week... nottaaaa big deal :) Hopefully you like the bars from NZ! and i've heard quite a bit about this egg method but I'm not sure if I can do that just yet. I used to do egg masks and the smell the egg is a little unsettling ah.

    • @XcherriesNchocolateX
      @XcherriesNchocolateX 9 лет назад +1

      Yeah thanks for the support :D
      Hmm I can see what you mean by the egg method I tried the first time with eggs from the store and it was weird but fresh eggs are way better, although I'm probably not using cold enough water to rinse it out because I find bits of white gloop sometimes when I comb. Lol, my mum was so weirded out by it. I've heard some people doing these herbal tea rinses too. I have yet to try it but it's kind of just like making tea and washing your hair with it but that seems time consuming too... :) Anyway good luck to you too with your no pooing!! The dandruff thing is such a demon so I know your pain.

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад

      I want to try the tea rinses as well one day! and yes thank you! :( It's so deceiving cause one day my scalp will be normal and then all of a sudden it comes back randomly.

    Hello Sarah! How do you wash your hair with honey? There is a recipe for this?

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад +1

      Letícia Araújo Hi! I use this recipe to make 1 portion of honey shampoo
      + 1 TBLS of Raw, Unpasturized Honey
      + 3 TBLS of warm water
      I tend to make 2 portions of this since my hair is long. I make sure the honey is completely dissolved before I apply it in the shower. I just put it on my roots and rinse. I find that every 3-4 weeks I have to use a natural shampoo bar to cleanse my hair. The honey shampoo is more for moisturizing my scalp for my dandruff issues.

      Not safe. Too alkaline. Just like soap bars. They are too alkaline for your hair for regular use. It's fine if you do it just once or twice a month, but even twice a month is stretching that a bit

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад +1

      ***** If you're dealing with dandruff get any of the ones i grabbed in my haul video. The thing I will add is that the bars that I did get were geared towards my issue and the smell of them were more herbally, like the smell of thyme and basil etc etc. however, the smell will not linger in your hair. literally once your hair dries you won't smell it. Because they are all natural and the fragrance is made by essential oils, the smell doesn't last :) My hair just smells clean once I've finished using them. The only other bar I got that wasn't for my issue was the citrus camomile because it was on sale at the time. That bar smells great but once again smell doesnt linger. I would recommend you just look for the smells you think you may like and ALSO read to see what they will do for your hair (add volume, add shine, dandruff etc.) For the full size bars, lol I literally just grabbed a ruler to measure one. Length approx 3.5 inches, width 2.5 inches and the thickness of the bar is almost 1 inch. Mind you these measurements are on a bar that I've used several times already so it might have shed some thickness. Hope this helps! :)

    Hi, so I started to the No-Poo trend bc of my dandruff, nothing has helped before and I was sick of putting so many harsh chemicals into my hair. I started the BS & ACV about 2 months ago, I didn't have as much dandruff but after about the 3rd day the itching & tingling was terrible. I recently started the Chagrin Valley shampoo bars && ACV. I'm using the Neem and tea tree oil bc it's more geared towards dandruff. Oh my word my hair was so waxy at first. I've used it two weeks now and my head doesn't itch at all but the dandruff seems to be worse. Did you experience this? Does it seem to get a little better after time? I know you've said you haven't found anything that truly gets rid of it && I'm just searching as well. Very frustrating at times.

    • @sarahhtran
      @sarahhtran  9 лет назад +1

      Amanda Musick Pretty much the same experience with you with BS & ACV which is why I switched to the honey method which made it a bit better but i only experience the waxy feeling with the honey not the shampoo bars. You also may want to consider that you might not have fully finished with the transition phase with no-poo so give it some time. So far the alternating between honey and shampoo bars help and are a step better than before but yes like I said haven't found anything that truly gets rid of it. I'm currently using lemon juice diluted with water after the shampoo bars & before the ACV and that helps my scalp out for a few days and I've noticed I don't scratch AS much but I still have dry white patches of dandruff. overall still better than when I used conventional shampoos. Trust me I'd post a video ASAP if I found something that just put the dandruff to an end! lol!! :)

      ***** where did you say you bought it? (background) I have been doing the once a week washing now for a few years actually. but I always used shampoo. expensive shampoo. My hair would get a bit too oily by day 5 and thats when i would start putting it all the way up and or wearing head bands to hide my roots. I feel like I have quite dry hair, because i put oil on my ends almost everyday.I hoping that if people that wash everyday with shampoo go from that to once a week (which I already do) with hardly any oil, then hopefully I can do the same with little effort. I have tried the honey thing now and like you say above, it leaves my hair feeling quite waxy. I'm hoping if I can find a shampoo bar that works, I can do that majority of the time and the honey just to put moisture back into my hair. I think your videos are quite informing, rather than just encouraging. I know a lady that sells goats milk shampoo and I am going to speak to her about whats in her soaps and I'll let you know

    Hi, I'm watching your videos for quite a while now. Thank you for tips, they are very helpful. I've done no poo, like completely nothing just only water for 8 weeks now. And my is still so greasy from day 1, so no changes really. I heard that it takes a year with just water but I can't leave my hair greasy for that long.... so I thought of doing the honey shampoo method but then I saw this video that you suggest the shampoo soap bar.
    Since I live in the UK, the delivery for Chagain Valley is very expensive (£20). So I search sites for shampoo bars in the UK. I found this soapbut shampoo bar site: www.soapnuts.co.uk/collections/all and this soap bar by J.R Liggetts: www.amazon.co.uk/J-R-Liggetts-Shampoo-Coconut-Argan/dp/B00D8W6498/ref=pd_sim_194_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=51uNlwFnDvL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR146%2C160_&refRID=1RH5307ETW153AR9D6NV so I was wondering which one from these 2 are more natural and which ingredents are better for the hair? Or shall I just do the honey shampoo method?
    I would really appreciate if you replied :)
    Thank you so much Sarah! x

      +endless-time Hi! I am so happy to hear that you're trying out no poo and that you went as far as trying out the water only method! :) I am not familiar with the first link you've sent but I am actually currently using J.R. Liggetts shampoo bar and I actually like their bar better than Chagin Valley since I am testing out Oil treatments for my dandruff and the J.R. Liggetts bar seems to cleanse my hair clean from the oils a lot better! :) However, the only downfall with J.R. Liggetts bar is that they are a bit more pricer (for Canadians at least) for the amount that you get. I find that their bars are smaller than Chagrins. Of course for your case it is much cheaper for you to order J.R. Liggetts than Chagrins :) If you have any other questions be sure to ask !! and of course follow up your shampoo bar washes with Apple Cider Vinegar rinses. I stopped using the honey method as it didn't do much more for my dandruff and it isn't as cleansing.
