When using a shampoo bar it is actually important to use an ACV rinse. Shampoo bars can leave a residue on the hair and the ACV gets rid of that. So the squeaky feeling you get on your hair is probably a mild residue from the shampoo bar.
Kathryn Koenig the conditioner bar worked great in thailand without it! Now that I am back I have been using my original method with ACV. If you watch my one year no poo update I mention that I do use it. I didn't bring ACV with me to thailand because I was backpacking, and I was only there for 3 weeks so I really only used the shampoo bar 3 times out there :)
The first time using, shampoo bars strips the polymer and unnatural stuff buildup on your hair strains that is caused by most commercial shampoo. It does take a while until your hair and scalp got used to it. You can speed up this process by doing the ratio ACV to water 1:1 and leave it to dry once a week. If you have oilier hair, use less ACV 1:5 ratio. Don't use too much ACV, once or twice a week max is enough and stop at times just to let your hair work out its own natural rhythm
Omg, this company is right near where I live! It's pronounced Sha-grin. Just ordered a few sample bars and I might have to take a field trip. Thank you so much for the recommendation Sarah!
I recently just started using the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Bar Soap on my scalp, face, body & femine areas & it has helped so much with gently cleansing daily without being too harsh or leaving behind any waxy/greasy residue :)
I used chagrin valley for months, the first month of use i loved my hair, it was clean and had so much volume! Then i noticed my brush getting quite dirty.. my hair wasnt feeling clean anymore, it weighed down and i got crazy dandruff and build up of the product in my hair! I couldnt believe the natural soap would give me a build up ): so i went back to baking soda and ACV
Hey, I was introduced to the idea of "No Poo" by a Korean TV show, and they televised short clips of your videos, and was immediately hooked by the idea of maintaining healthy and presentable hair without using shampoo. I did some extensive search on Google and it did have a wide range of recipes and detailed instructions, but lacked feedback on the whole experience of "No Poo," and to me its a concept that is somewhat...eww. Anyway I am really interested in the "Honey Method" but I couldn't find any detail on how you made the solution/paste, I would appreciate it if you could tell me. Also, I apply hair products at least 2/3 times a week and I was wondering how you would wash them out? Do you use products at all? If yes please recommend me some of your methods. Thanks.
Whoa really? lol that's crazy. Wish I could have seen that. For the honey method, I only recommend people to try it if the have issues with dry scalp or dandruff. The honey method could cause build up in your roots and weigh your hair down. I use it since it is really soothing to my scalp but I do notice that it gives a bit of a waxy feeling and not AS cleansing. I use 1 tablespoon of raw honey and 3 tablespoons of hot/warm water to dissolve the honey. Sometimes I make 2 portions of it. I personally have not used any hair products in a really long time. I have used a curling iron a couple times during my no-poo but have been trying out no heat methods. If you want to try a natural hairspray you can do water and sugar and the more sugar you add the stronger the hold. For Dry shampoo i have a natural recipe using cornstarch (video is on my channel). I don't think the honey method will be able to remove all chemical products. I really have been enjoying natural shampoo bars. They really are cleansing and the most cleansing feeling method out of the ones I've tried. Definitely follow up with Apple Cider Vinegar rinses after any of the methods I've tried. It does make a difference for "conditioning".
I'm not sure if someone has asked before but how long did it take your hair to stop being oily and feel clean and soft? I am using the morrocco method products at the moment. How do you find those shampoo bars? Is it hard to rinse out due to the oils in bar? Thanks.
This video was so helpful! I have a question regarding bleaching the ends of my hair. I have not used shampoo in 5 months now. I am doing the baking soda method. I would like to highlight just the ends of my hair. However, the hair dresser will have to use shampoo to rinse it out. Would it negatively effect my routine by only using it this one time as long as it's not being used on my scalp? I've tried searching for information on this but couldn't find much. Thanks :)
Sarah rose it will be fine tho the bleaching is way harder on your hair than the shampoo. Use lots of coconut oil before washing your hair each time after your highlights. Your ends will be thirsty! Keep smiling!
Thanks for the video! I have suffered for years with itchy scalp. I tried the nopoo method (using baking soda) and my hair got too dry so I quit. I like apple cider vinegar, too, but I didn't know of any other nopoo method. Thanks for the honey method. I think I'll try that along with the ayurvedic shampoo bar. BTW: "Chagrin" is pronounced like 'shuh-GRIN'. It means to be embarrassed (like over failed attempts. LOL) Again, thanks a lot! I've watched a couple of your videos and that have been very helpful!
LOL!! Thanks so much for that! and I hope it works for you! Join the facebook forum that I linked in the description box to discover other methods people are using! :)
When you do the ACV rinse in a spray would you normally do a quick rinse [of H2O] after? I usually just pour some ACV rinse on my hair and do a quick rinse under the tap, but feel like you may have convinced me to try out the spray bottle method :)
yes I rinse my hair out with water afterwards, although I know some people leave it in. I prefer the spray bottle method since it is not as much liquid hitting my scalp and I can't smell the ACV when I work out :)
I came to watch your videos just as Sam Lee mentioned. They referred to your video! haha Your videos are very useful, I might try no-poo soon. You are so beautiful by the way! Please keep posting!
Thanks so much for watching!!! I for sure will. I only do updates now if there is something new or anything has changed. If you have any questions just let me know :) I'll try to answer them but if I can't, definitely just check out the no-poo forum!
hi sarah, your vlogs are amazing ! found that your sirname is Tran, are you vietnamese ? i also planning to do this no-poo method and you give me your advise ? about what i have to do at the begginning ? and if during the method, can i go to hair salon and let them dye my hair ? anw, thanks alot bcuz sharing with us your method xD
I have been interested in the "no poo" movement for a little while now and am now going to binge watch your no poo videos because I found this very informative :)
Good luck then Ariel Elizabeth keep me updated on the progress once you start! I'm excited!! If you need to talk to people with a lot of experience join that forum I always talk about on FB! the links are usually in the description box! there are so many different methods! :)
I've been using a shampoo bar for over a year now acv rinse wash days twice week now hair growth 25 inches been growing out for 3 yrs recommended satin pillow case and I will never buy shampoo again. All though I wish stores would start selling shampoo bars instead of having to order offline
+Amanda Jarrett That's amazing! Thanks for the tip on the satin pillow cases I'll have to try that out. I wish there were aisles of natural shampoo bars in stores instead of those toxic bottles of shampoo & conditioner people think they need.
+RABIA MEMON I use a wide toothed comb from Sally's that is meant for wet hair at the beach or in the shower. The water literally just slides off the comb so it's no slipper at all. I use Shea Moistures Raw Shea Butter Soap Bar to cleanse my hair & my comb never has waxy/greasy build up.
Shuli de la Fuente-Lau Hi, yes I only wash my hair with shampoo bars once a week. It takes me about a month - 2 months to finish a sample bar I would say. I dont really remember since I am on full sized bars now, but somewhere around there
I've been using shampoo bars for a few months now, and my hair is responding great but I've wondered what to do when I need to go get my hair cut. I don't want to use conventional shampoo on my hair, but I understand that the no poo method is a little different than most stylists would be used to doing. Any suggestions?
foxy fox hi there, I know I’m a little late to try and help you with your question, but I just watched some videos from @madeleineolivia and she mentioned that she asked for a wet cut, that means the hairdresser would just spritz your hair with water and cut it right after :)
Im new to your channel AND no poo.. Im kind of confused. :( So, I start off with baking soda and apple cider vinegar, and then switch to raw honey and apple cider vinegar? Please reply!

Hi Danya Stoyanova I did record an update a few days ago just have to edit it! I am using both still! mostly shampoo bars and using the honey method in between to add more moisture to the scalp. Using both methods WITH Apple cider vinegar rinse. My tip is to slowly push back your wash day. so you say 2-3 days now next week wait until the 4th day for 2 weeks or something then push back to wait 5 days and so on and so forth! Good luck! your hair needs to go through a transition phase so be patient.
Thanks for you quick response :) i will be waiting for your video :) I can't use shampoo bars ...mostly because there no such a thing here in my country ,or at least i've never seen it ,so hopefully i'll stick for now with the honey and the rince , at least i have my gradfather's honey that i my self help extract from the honeycones :) so i'm not worring for peing a lot for natural honey :) thank a lot once again ,and kisses from Bulgaria :*

hmm that is interesting! That must mean that the baking soda method is meant for you! :) which is awesome! xx
So now that it is nearly March, are you still doing the Shampoo Bars? I just purchased samples for my 3 week trip for the same reason.
Yes I am! and alternating with the honey method once a month.
I have used shampoo bars myself, and no your hair is not dry without the ACV :D

Let me suggest instead of mixing water with the vinegar rinse, coconut water. It works far better❤️
