The Canon R5 has been really good to me. But I'm just not inspired to pick it up anymore. I'm really a fan of Fujifilm and their color science for my photos, and testing it more for video. Canon cameras have been great for my business, don't get me wrong. But Fujifilm is just more inspiring at the moment.
So I'm switching to the Fujiflm XH2s.
Two important features in the Fujifilm XH2s are FLog2, which is beautiful and matches better with CLog2, and the then 6K Open Gate. Having a taller image makes editing for vertical videos much easier and you can still film horizontal.
And then the Fuji color science and film simulations, that everyone has come to love.
So no... the Canon R5 isn't a bad camera. It's just not the camera I need and want right now.
Instead, that's the Fujifilm XH2s.

This made me smile - A colleague of mine recently sold his R5 along with many RF lenses over £10k worth and decided to go down the Fuji route. After touring the Far East, then some F1 racing and the Mach loop, he has not stopped crying wishing he kept his Canon gear. Which shows everyone had different tastes and none are really wrong. It is whatever suites you.
Oh man, I don’t think I would’ve sold the R5 and gone with a new camera for such a big trip like that. I would’ve stuck with what I knew.
@@TrentErwin please I will like to see a comparison video of the Fujifilm xh2s in F-log 2 vs Canon c70 in C log 2. There is real comparison of both with real human subject on RUclips. Please can you make this happen? Love to compare the dynamic range, color, etc

Subscribed! Welcome to the fuji fam. I just recently switched from xt5 to xh2s because i do more video now (yt) and I really needed the flip screen!
Absolutely man! The video quality and capabilities on the XH2s are incredible. Plus open gate… gah. So good.
I traded my Canon 5D III for a Fuji Xt-3 three years ago. Sold the Fuji and went back to Canonbwith the R6, where I am staying. Yes, the Fuji brought me back to my film days with the analog controls I find so intuitive. But the autofocus was unreliable and the low light performance is clearly below that of the R6. I do mostly travel photography with a lot of low light scenes, and the Canon is far superior. The XT-5 I heard is better, but the complaints about autofocus are still the overwhelming complaint. Lovely and light, but no thanks.
The beginning was So creative! Still love my R5 though!!
And you should! The R5 is a beast. It’s been so good to me. Just really enjoy Fuji at the moment.

Haha! Love the intro switch up! Really showing your range these days, bro. Love it! The C70 and R5C have been my A and B cams, but lately, i've been shooting a lot of event coverage where I'm not in control of lighting scenarios and have been considering the FX3 and FX6!
Thanks bro 🙏🏼 trying to add more of my creative flair where it makes sense. I can totally see the FX3 and FX6 working great in those scenarios. I’d be lying if said I haven’t considered the same. But I do love my C70 so much. It actually looks great in low light in XFAVC with little noise.

Longtime Canon shooter here. I love my RF mount cameras, but that Fuji is a beast! It honestly puts Canon's crop cameras to complete shame. Even the R7...
Selling my R8 to make a similar move to the XT-5! I miss Fuji colours and especially the highlight roll off in video, it’s very arri like and no full frame camera from any brand can match. It’s crazy, once you see how Fuji does highlights the highlights look terrible on canon and Sony.

Xh2s for video and xt5 for photography.
The x100f is the same camera that got me into Fujifilm. It was gradual but, Fujifilm is my primary brand now.

@@TrentErwin Agreed! At work I shoot with the Canon R3 & Sony FX9 and I still prefer using my Fujifilm X & 50R over the others. Gone are the days where you need full frame to do professional work.
That is very true! And very interesting coming from the FX9. I’ve heard that’s a great camera.
If only Fuji had full frame, apsc and medium format in one mount...
If in the future Fuji make one mount then i will go with Fuji without a doubt

We are sharing the same experience and excitement as I've been shooting with Canon for almost two decades, I did try couple of Sony cameras too (They are amazing), then I bought a Fuji camera for fun ( the original finepix x100) and it changed totally the way I see photography.. I just bought another Fuji camera recently and sell all my Canon equipment.. there are something in fuji film emulation that made me fall in love with the system.. I never thought I would do the switch to Fujifilm 😅
I never thought I would switch to it either! But I guess we’ve come to similar conclusions. We live in an incredible era of cameras and options. It’s fun!
Same for me, Nikon, then Sony, then Fuji but I went back to Nikon and I love my Z6 a lot more than my XT2.

@@TrentErwin I explored with the X100V for a bit and found myself wanting something wider. I currently shoot R5’s for work. I was used to the speed of the Canon. But I don’t think I’m done with Fuji, I’m looking to get into an X pro or XT series. I don’t mind extra bulk of a lens. I think I’d like a 28mm focal length. But, also I think for my style I may stick with a fast zoom. Which is why a body with a removable lens is the better option. Right now I’m using an RX100 VI for street but it’s not close to a Fujj colors .
My R5 is sweating after seeing this video from the shelf behind me... But don't worry little guy, I'll keep you until 2027...

I have x h2. If you need afc in video especially, far away from fuji. This makes you disappointed. Generally xh2 and xh2s can not react fast and sometimes got stuck and blurry especially suddenly change the camera direction to another object. And fuji is not useful for closed video recording for exampla subject for jewels. If your light is even little bad i know fuji can not focused st the time. So i mean if anybody change from any brand to fuji, all need to know what they need exactly. If not, be sure fuji's colors can not save your decision at all.

I did the same, I have the x-h2s but when it comes to photography the R5 is ridiculously sharper! Video is better on the x-h2s, dynamic range and skin tones are great. The R5 colours are crap in my opinion and I had to work harder to get the colours I wanted in post. But I miss the sharpness. I may buy the R5 again and have it as my photo only camera and keep my X-U2’s for video.
I added xh2s for video but kept R5 for photo. When it comes to photo R5 wins no contest. The autofocus on R5 is much better than fuji.
I feel the same. XH2S is way more impressive with video. Photos aren't bad, but certainly softer. Adapting my EF glass doesn't provide the best results with photos. But when testing the XF 16-55mm f2.8, I had great results with photos. Native glass is always better. And that lens is beautiful.

Oh that’s tough, I haven’t tested the Lumix but I’ve heard great things. I love the Fuji colors, but the Lumix is full frame with the L mount. Can’t go wrong with either honestly.

Fuji has amazing color quality. My Fuji GFX 50 R with EF lenses is really amazing what comes to picture quality - really far ahead of the Canon R5, even if it has the same amount of pixels as R5.
The GFX cameras are insane for photos. So amazing.

In my experience, full frame and cropped isn't such a huge difference like people make it out to be.

Which lenses you will get?
Right now I'm using the Fringer XF to EF adapter to use my EF lenses. But I'll probably get the XF 16-55mm f2.8. Basically a 24-70mm equivalent.

The video quality is definitely better, in my opinion. FLog 2 is a great profile for dynamic range. I actually find myself enjoying the footage out of the Fuji more than my C70 at times 🫢

@@edi18912 the native ISO is 1250 so that's where you're going to get the best results. All of my footage so far (for clients and for test) has been very clean at the native ISO. No issues.

It doesn’t. It’s a very clean image. Log profiles at native ISO levels are going to be the cleanest image out of a camera.
What lens do you use for the Fujifilm and do you use Eye AF for client work?
Currently I adapt my EF glass to the Fuji, but I've tested the XF 16-55mm f2.8 (similar to a 24-70mm on full frame) and I love that lens. That will be my next purchase for the Fuji. Native glass is definitely better for photos. And yes I rely on Eye AF a lot!

Lol love it. I just said I sold the R5 and saved money buying the Fuji. So “too much money” isn’t true. I have a business and family (two kids), so “too much time” isn’t a reality. I’d love to find more time 😅 crop sensor isn’t as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Clients don’t ask me when I show up, “hey is that camera a crop sensor?” Nah as long as I nail my shots, they couldn’t care. Color and dynamic range is more important in my opinion.

Haha I think you missed the part about me having a photo and video business for clients. RUclips is just a fun project for me. And I also saved $1,000 selling my R5 for the Fuji.

I don’t know how me saying a different camera is a better fit for me is “ridiculous.” I’m not bashing the R5. It’s a solid camera. But I’ve enjoyed more photos out of my Fuji cameras recently. And the XH2s definitely beats the R5 in video. I’ve filmed with a lot of full frame cameras and crop sensor cameras over the last 9 years. Full frame is not the greatest factor or spec of them all.
