  • The Acela Express trainsets from Bombardier Transportation (assisted by Alstom) were the US' first ever introduction into the usage of "bullet trains", with a sleek, streamlined, pointed nose design specifically for high speed usage, and a linked, organized trainset of coaches that is to not be detached from each other, with the exception of the locomotives attached on either end. While these trains classify as bullet trains, and were revolutionary for not just Amtrak, but the US' railroading network as a whole, due to Amtrak's rougher terrain with rail, which forced limitations on speed that could be reached with the Acela Express as it would pose a safety risk, these trainsets cannot reach their full potential, like what might be seen on European rail lines, or Asian rail lines. However, since the first set delivered in 2000 (ironically with the first locomotive numbered 2000), with the tests that were done with leased trainsets of other high speed "bullet trains" from other countries, Amtrak had finally been able to test and eventually operate the Acela Express trainsets in revenue service, on the then-brand new high speed train service, known then and now as the Acela. Every train set had been delivered with a café car, business cars, and first class cars, making them Amtrak's highest end service even to date, and the fastest train in the entire country. #amtrak #shorts
