I'd say No Exit is the perfect introductory thriller! I think it was the first or one of the first I ever read and I loved it so much. A lot of thrillers have a super strong mystery element as well, but the way No Exit dropped the mystery so quickly and jumped into a cat and mouse between the hero and the villain was amazing. I kind of wish more thrillers were like that lol
Hey , please can you just tell me did this story involved any kind of romantic relationship ? I need some books to read but am sick of romantic relationships or any love story so can you please tell did this book involved these??
@@babykoo7952 Not at all, there's a scene for two people briefly make out in order to not blow their cover, but that's about it. I'm not 18 yet and I've read No Exit without feeling uncomfortable in that regard.
The three books that started my thriller addiction: - The Woman in Cabin 10 (Ruth Ware) - I Invited Her In (Adele Parks) - The Invitation (Rachel Abbott). Totally agree with The Silent Patient (which I just finished recently). It blew my mind with the twist at the end. Maybe don't start with that one though as it's sooooo good it will be hard to find another read that matches it!
Am I the only one who found silent patient meh? I literally knew half-way through what’s up. Also there are a lot of things that doesn’t even make sense. Spoiler alert!!!!! Ex; How could Alicia wrote all that after being injected in her diary & hid it too? Ain’t no way..
Just wanted to stop by and congratulate you on how much your channel has grown since I started watching you! Your enthusiasm for reading is so infectious and your energy is so positive and needed this year. Escapism has been so important in 2020 and I'm sure you have helped so many people find books that have given them just that. You're one of my absolute favs on RUclips! Lots of love from the UK! x
that part where you said that most thrillers aren't made for you to care about the characters is so true!! I've just recently started to get into this genre and that's the first thing I noticed. when it comes to books it's usually a huge priority for me that I emotionally connect with the characters in order to enjoy the story overall, but when it comes to thrillers I kinda don't mind it that much if I don't because the plot really makes up for it.
I read "Then She Was Gone" and "What lies between us" because of you and now I think they will be my favourite books of the year. I really love your recommendations✨ Love from México 🇲🇽
Ooh, that necklace is so pretty on you with the black sweater! 😍 And so thankful for the recs today! I’m trying to beef up my thriller list for the winter since COVID will have us trapped indoors! Ugh! I’m in one of those phases where I’ve started about ten books and stopped halfway through - such a slump! But maybe one of these books will turn it around for me! Your energy is always so positive and contagious that it’s hard not to be excited about reading! 🤩
I started reading thrillers this year and No Exit was my first one! Definitely a great pick for a beginner; super fast-paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
When you started to get into thrillers and horror I had no interest but would still watch your videos. Then this summer I got into John Marrs books and now he’s my favourite author! And now I’m catching up on all these thrillers that you’ve recommended over the years! Thank you! Your videos make my day❤️
Just wanted to say that I love your channel so much! You got me into reading and got me through my depression! I keep busy by reading the books you recommend. THANK YOU!!
- Gone Girl - Big Little Lies - Long Bright River - Then She Was Gone - He Will Be My Ruin - When No One Is Watching - Verity - The Passengers - The One - No Exit - What Lies Between Us
omg, you never fail in showing us the best novels you recommend, I seriously have a long list of books I’m wanting to get because of you!! Thank you sooo much🥺. You are the best❤️.
No Exit by Taylor Adams is definitely a fun ride! As for Behind Her Eyes😅.... I think in retrospect I would appreciate it more if it was intended as a *satire thriller*, because that ending is so over-the-top ridiculous! Ira Levin is probably a good one to check out as well, he wrote The Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby.
Gone Girl is a perfect gateway to thrillers. Still one of my faves and I loved the movie version too which is surprising. Good choices all around- a few I need to catch up on.
Riley Sager and Simone St James are two of my favorite authors, and all of Taylor Adams books are great! Final Girls by Sager was one of the craziest plot twists I never EVER saw coming
I would recommend Goodnight Beautiful! I know some people didn’t like the second half of the book, but there are two plot twists that I didn’t predict at all!
My favorite horror but I think is thriller is Servants of Twiglight and Intensity by Dean Koontz. Those had me on the edge of my seat and so out of breath. I'm definitely not a beginner but I definitely have been experiencing new authors and different types of books thanks to you Gabby. I so appreciate your videos.
Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas is perfect for a beginner. That book is fast-paced and the ending was satisfying. I think it's underrated tbh. I just randomly opened it and did not put it down until I finished it. Lol
You did an amazing job with this video! I read a lot of great books because of you. Currently I'm reading The Night Swim and I love it. I was looking for more books similar to Verity which I loved. Thank you
I don't consider myself a thriller reader but surprisingly I read 6 of the books that you talked about 😅 You sold me on Behind Her Eyes, I'm adding it to my tbr 😀
Great recommendations Gabby! I truly love anything by Lisa Gardner for a gripping, easy to read thriller. I've never read anything by her that I didn't like. Also recommend Harlan Coben for beginners to the genre.
Jesse from Bowties and Books would be so happy to see When No One Is Watching on a thriller list, she did a whole video about it recently. I still need to pick that up.

I just read Then she was gone my first thriller novel! and I am so much interested to read more novels like that! Your videos and explanations are so interesing !!
This video made me think about my first thriller and I am not positive but I want to say it was Patricia Cornwell's Postmortem, the first Kay Scarpetta novel. Or at least I have a distinct memory of my mom telling me that I might like it, and trying it and loving it. And tbh the whole crime scene/court room/technical aspects of solving crime is what got me hooked on them in the first place, so I had to kind of laugh when you said that was your least favorite aspect. I haven't actually read a lot of the thrillers you mentioned, so I added them to my TBR list! I read Gone Girl and Gillian Flynn's other novels in...2012 when iirc they was really popular, and I liked it but I wasn't as amazed? And the other novels were good too, like I thought they were solid thrillers, I just didn't get why they were considered *so* amazing? But I definitely agree that Gone Girl is a good intro to thrillers. And like yeah, the plot twists at the end of The Turn of the Key! I've been reading thrillers for nearly 20 years now, I was 15 when I started, and it is *really* hard to surprise me. And tbh a lot of the time if I am surprised, it's not in a good way, because if it made sense, I would have clued in earlier. But the ending of that book...I was not expecting those reveals. Thanks for the video, it was really interesting!
I believe a good book that could have been added to your thriller recommendations would have been The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager. I just finished it last weekend and the ending blew my mind.
Thought I'll share my story I got into thriller this year only by taking your recommendations and my first book was The Silent Patient and it's because of this book that all I read now is thriller. Like after a romance I need a thriller. It has now become a basic need of mine. So I would really like to thanku for putting up such great recommendations Because honestly I never thought I'll ever get into thrillers. Also thanku to Alex Michaelides for marking a point in my life to always remember that it was his debut book that got me into thrillers.
