Why I love the Silent Patient's plot twist is that you read and read and don't get any explanation and then boom, you don't even notice the twist coming.
I agree, **Beware, spoilers below** I wasn’t expecting that the main protagonist was the person who killed the women’s husband. (I forgot the names, sorry xD) I was thinking that the guy, was repeating the same steps and everything that happened with his girlfriend was happening the same time as he met the girl (I was kinda dumb-). But when everything was revealed to the readers, I had a surprised face because the twist was pretty unexpected. Still kinda sad that the girl died, ngl.

"Verity" was an okay read for me, the whole story was a HUGE misunderstanding. It has it creepy moments, but it had too much of this "Lifetime" movie feel that I didn't really care for.
Behind Her Eyes has one of my favorite twists because it COMPLETELY blindsided me. That’s the one I always recommend to someone looking for a great twist! I’m so glad you mentioned The One, because even though it didn’t have one huge twist, soooo many of its little twists made me gasp out loud or shout “NO!” or “WHAT?!”
Oh Behind Her Eyes was gooood - I didn't read the book, but I watched it on Netflix and wow. It starts off seemingly like a slower drama, but the ending plot twists were AMAZING and so worth the slow buildup
I’ve read about half of the books on this list and can confirm that they did indeed have great plot twists so I’m super excited to read the rest of them. It was the last sentence in The Push that did it for me, literally gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!
Ooh, I loved the plot twist for The Silent Patient so much!! I literally put my head in the lap and just went “OH MY GOD” over and over as my boyfriend was standing over me wondering what was going on 😅 It was such a good one that for a split second I thought we’d accidentally changed genres into sci fi. Alas, he tried to do a big plot twist in his next book, The Maidens, and it low key ruined an otherwise really good book
Completely agree with The Silent Patient and The Turn of the Key ! I was also really hooked with the plot twist in The Winter People. My sister and I buddy read it and it was our favorite book for this year :)
Interesting concept for The One! I haven't read it, but I was just thinking, let's say you're already happily married & in love with someone....would you still take the test to see who your "perfect match" is supposed to be?

I had read an Agatha Christie novel with that exact same plot twist a few years before so I was telling my dad about the book after reading chapter 1 and I was like what if this is what really happened low and behold I guessed the plot twist I blame the people who said their was a huge plot twist because I was expecting a plot twist I was able to guess what it was
Absolutely loved The Silent Patient. Wow, I never saw that coming! Local Woman Missing is on my December TBR. I can't wait to read it. Confessions sounds so wonderful too ☺
I haven't read quite a lot of these, so I'll be checking some of them out, thanks! One book I read this year that I thought had a killer twist is 56 Days by Catherine Ryan Howard. It's set in Dublin, at the beginning of the covid lockdown. A young couple meet, quickly move in together, and then 56 days later a dead body is discovered in their apartment (this is not a spoiler; the novel opens with the discovery of the body and then jumps back and forth in time). It's a novel that slowly reveals its secrets - so it's a novel of multiple 'twists' in some ways, but one in particular, quite late in the book, absolutely took my breath away, I thought it was so cleverly done, so cleverly disguised. It's rare a twist stops me in my tracks an has me going, 'Wow!' but this one did, I thought it was done with such consummate skill. It might not hit so hard for other people, but for me I thought it was spectacularly clever, brilliantly executed, and left me filled with admiration for the author, so it's a book I definitely recommend.
I think I’m a detective - I predicted The Silent Patient, Rock Paper Scissors, They Never Learn, and Lock Every Door, but I’m most upset about figuring out I Let You Go on page two, WHYYYY. Gone Girl and Turn of the Key are probably my two favorites!

I love your enthusiasm! I love an over the top thriller like Local Woman Missing but a book I still think about is the slow burn thriller Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson. Loved the twists! Recently read my second Kanae Minato book called Penance and loved it as much as Confessions. Her stories are so unique.
I picked up a few books from this list based on your recs. Just finished the first one and let me say that it did not disappoint! My mind is still whirling 🤯 now onto read the next one up! Thank you 💕
Great video (minus the swearing hehe) I'll definitely check some of these out Because I'm a book nerd who has way too many books and cannot currently justify anymore book purchases, I often look up spoilers of popular books I'm not likely to read. It's interesting because the plot twists don't often seem too shocking when you haven't read the entire book. I didn't think the plot twist in the Silent Patient was unpredictable but most likely an entirely different experience if you actually read the book
I finished the silent patient a few days ago, and the plot twist is actually so shockingly good, it definitely just hits you when you least expect it and I love how they show parts of alicias diary so you get to see from her perspective, totally recommend this

Kiersten Modglin writes really good plot twists and her books have several twists so once you think you’ve got it figured out, a new twist punches you in the face. Quick, enthralling reads for sure!!
My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing had a good plot twist. I really loved it. I have read a lot on your list but still have at least 5 that I haven't read and plan to get soon. Thanks Gabby for another great video.
for gone girl, the twist mainly happens near the middle and it wasnt one of my favs but it’s one of those books that end up being more crazier (not in a plot twist way) as u read till the end. i wouldn’t recommend it if u want a book with a huge shocking plot twist.
The way how you express your opinion about The Silent Patient got me hook. And truly i can guarantee that you really talking real deal about those books you've mentioned. Now im adding all your reco to my TBR. Thank you for this. ❤️❤️
I flew through Gone Girl 😂 It was such a fun, crazy read to me. But, I have thoughts (probably unpopular opinion) about the twist in Behind Her Eyes, especially now that I've had some time to think about it a bit.
Just after finding your great channel a few days ago, I'm a guy in my early 50's and am trying to get back into thriller/thriller with horror books. Seen your thriller bests and your Pet Sematary vid and have bought about 10 of your thriller recommendations (including Gone Girl of course). I'm looking forward to starting the books, thanks again for your great reviews/recommendations.
A place of execution by Val McDermid has an amazing plot twist. I recently re read it after 20 years (I first read it while 9-11 happened). I remembered what the big plot twist was, so this time I was looking out for the little hints in the story. It's a slow start, but it's totally worth it.
Thank you so much for these recommendations. I am getting back into ready and mystery books aren't holding my attention anymore. I'll be going the library this weekend with a list in hand.
I have read a lot of contemporary thrillers lately from your recs, and liked many of them, thank you Gabby! Just finished Rock Paper Scissors, my first Alice Feeney. It was a very unique thriller experience for me. I loved the writing style, and the Scottish Winter atmosphere in the 'present' of the book. This is one of the very rare thrillers where I couldn't guess where it was going for most of the book. The book is written in such a way concealing key facts from the reader until the reveal, I did not foresee much. The twists were very twisted indeed. I would call the twists psychological more than anything else. Although there are no direct parallels or similarities, I would say you could compare it in some ways with The Silent Patient, for the psychological twists, though way better written than Silent Patient with a much better atmosphere and more plot twists, you could call it a more literary version of the type of thrillers like Silent Patient. Even though retrospectively I do not find the overall plot or the characters that appealing (I am not a fan of the unreliable narrators trope), for the writing, the spooky atmosphere, and the multiple twists, it definitely deserves a 5. Local Woman Missing is a thriller I really enjoyed, not for the plot twist though, I vaguely guessed it halfway through the book. I loved the book for the best multiple POV usage and the atmosphere, the characters were well fleshed out too. This was definitely a 5 star for me, for the overall reading experience.
As I move forward in my reading journey, specifically when it comes to thrillers, I don’t think I will read a thriller unless you have recommended it! Your reviews are 💯! I’ve read half of these books and there are a few that I own and that are on my TBR. I loved Confessions! I would have never picked that up if the recommendation did not come from you. It’s probably the most unique plot and narration in a book that I have read all year. Grateful for you, your energy and awesome reviews!
One more very good recommendation : the disappearance of Stephanie mailer. I love this book. It is very twisty and always there is a new development in almost every chapter. Best thriller I read so far in 2021.
silent patient and turn off the key had my jaw on the floor!! rock paper and scissors made me crazy like wth lol and i loved the vibes of lock every door. i dont know why but i found the push dragging :( i did not like it but i agree with you it has all the fears of being a parent
I have read at least half of these & agree with you whole-heartedly, Gabby! So looking forward to reading the remaining titles ASAP. There have been SO MANY fantastic books that have come out in recent years, it’s difficult to keep up, but I keep plugging away. Not out of pressure but for the pure delight & escapism books provide! Happy reading to you this holiday season! 📚👓🎄
I always binge watch your videos!! i just realized you are my comfort youtuber!☺ and if I want to buy thriller books ill have to look for your recommendations
Riley Sagar's lock every door and home before dark were good. Home before dark has at least 2 plot twists. Silent patient was good. The plot twist at the end was unexpected. The maidens, her latest book wasn't as good as Silent Patient.
Behind Her Eyes.. Definitely had the best plot twist I have seen thus far. I was totally surprised and then was like what in the hell just happened!!!??? It definitely makes you want to go back and re-read it once you see what the plot twist is because yes I agree, Holy Shit!!!
I‘m in the middle of my semester and I have NO time but everytime I watch your videos I get so excited for winter break, so I can read all your recommendations… 😍
Gabby two books ive read with great plot twists that i recomend to you are Shutter Island by Lehane and Bad Monkeys by Ruff. This are literary plot twists but you will love them. Youre going to be saying how could i live without reading this books. Love your channel and continue success.
I personally read a lot of mystery/thrillers and I totally agree about Shutter Island! I'm not really sure why I picked it up because Dennis Lehane doesn't seem like an author I would usually read, but I'm so so glad that I did. With so many books I have a hard time remembering what even happened in them (including a few on this list that I read last year like The Silent Patient and The One). But Shutter Island has stuck with me even several years later because I was completely floored by it!
Agree on the one but preferred the passengers. Would you ever be willing to try the girl with the dragon tattoo? Thinking about that ending gives me shivers, honestly.
So kind of you to think of me!! 🥺💛 I actually have Rock Paper Scissors already and I can’t wait to read it 🥰 and omg yes to Confesions, the Push, Local Woman Missing, and They Never Learn!! Such a fantastic list 💛
I think I’ve read all of those except Confessions, and hard agree! Although I didn’t really love The Push. I just finished In My Dreams I Hold a Knife LAST NIGHT and omg, LOVED IT! I feel like No Exit deserves to be on here too.
I came here for some thriller recommendations, and came away with three or four, so thanks. My favorite plot twist of all time isn't from a thriller, but a period drama, Atonement. In a pre WW2 England summer, a precocious 12-year-old girl misinterprets a series of interactions between her sister and the sister's boyfriend, which leads to her telling a lie that ruins both their lives. The book is split into four parts, with the big twist coming at the beginning of the fourth part. As for twists that come from a thriller, my favorite comes from Where Eagles Dare. A commando squad, led by Major Smith, is sent to parachute into a small village in Austria to infiltrate a Nazi stronghold that sits atop a mountain and is accessible only via cable car, where the general who planned D-day is being held for interrogation. The twists start in the second chapter, and come one right on top of another from about the midpoint. This is an espionage thriller, so if that genre doesn't appeal to you, this book isn't going to change your mind. A classic thriller with a great twist is She Who Was No More by Pierre Boulle, Thomas Narcejac, and Geoffrey Sainsbury. A travelling salesman and his mistress plan to kill the salesman's wife so the two can get her life insurance money and be together. The murder mostly goes as planned, but afterward things go off the rails. The big twist comes at the very end, and it's a doozy. This book was the basis for the movie Les Diaboliques, which is one instance of the movie version being superior, so if you want the story, find a copy of the movie. The twist here is also the inspiration for what became a common horror/thriller movie trope. For a runner up, The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith. Most people know the big twist, which occurs at about the halfway point (and, it could be argued, is really a late-occurring inciting incident) from the two movie adaptations, but if you go into it not knowing it, it's a doozy. Tom Ripley is a small-time conman hired by a wealthy man, Mr. Greenleaf, to travel to Europe and convince the man's son, Dickie, who has been living off his trust fund and avoiding any kind of work, to come home. Instead, Ripley becomes enamored of the lifestyle, and decides to hang out with Dickie, instead of bring him home. Again, thanks for the recommendations.
The book that I can think of reading that freaked me out the most was Nightshade by John Saul. It had an insane plot twist. I read this book while working night shift at an old hospital. The Emergency room literally was closed unless a very severely ill person came in. It reminded me of the hospital from Nightmare on elm street. It was creepy I could work the whole night and not see another human being. After reading this book it took me years to read another creepy book. P.S. I have started reading Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell, thanks to you Gabby. So far it is pretty creepy. ;)
Omg! A John daily reference!!!! Ima die! I’ve been reading him since I was in fifth grade and had to have a note from my mom that I was allowed to read them lol!!! Suffer the children! When the wind blows! Comes the blind fury!!!
Hi, congratulations for your reviews. I have always followed your advice. I was really struck by the beauty of "Motion Detection", a thriller book that I found by chance on Amz while looking for a new book. The cover intrigued me, it's an unusual book with a spectacular ending, I highly recommend it!
I can't say it copied "that" book's twist, but somehow I hate that I already read "that" book by Agatha Christie, because when you read "that" book then read the Silent Patient, the twist is not that shocking. Still a good book. (Only if we talk about the same novel 😅)
Until this year I was way way way more of a movie guy than a reader (since starting to change, currently on book 18 of this year). My gf was trying to get me to read more last year, and one that she tried selling to me was The Silent Patient, after reading the synopsis I guess the twist immediately within seconds and she was pissed lmao she thought I googled it 😅 but I can’t believe how many people are mind blown by it, it makes me question how “twisty” a lot of book readers recommendation are. Like some books I’ve read since I’m like if this book was a movie it just wouldn’t work in regards to pacing, twist predictability, massive conveniences etc. A few of these recommendations are chefs kiss tho, but just thought I’d share my 2 cents
Im trying to spark my love for reading again and i love how enthusiastic and passionate your are #new subbie , i can wait to read some of these books!!!
I found your channel when you reccomended Unravel by Calia Read which still stands out as the book that started my love for thrillers. I'd love you to reread it and see if you still think the twist is as good as back then 😌
I have read Lock every door and i was wanting to read the turn of the key but as gabby said the books are quite similar in plot, but can anyone tell me if the big plot twist at the end is also similar in both books?
I feel like I only ever see romance books being recommended i am so happy I stumbled upon you and this video! I had a feeling you would like gone girl and i love that it was your first. Gabs think alike lols

My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing had a good plot twist. I really loved it. I have read a lot on your list but still have at least 5 that I haven't read and plan to get soon. Thanks Gabby for another great video.
I agree with you 💯!! The only book you mentioned that I haven't read I'd Confessions. I'm looking forward to your favorite books of 2021 video!
for gone girl, the twist mainly happens near the middle and it wasnt one of my favs but it’s one of those books that end up being more crazier (not in a plot twist way) as u read till the end. i wouldn’t recommend it if u want a book with a huge shocking plot twist.
The way how you express your opinion about The Silent Patient got me hook. And truly i can guarantee that you really talking real deal about those books you've mentioned. Now im adding all your reco to my TBR. Thank you for this. ❤️❤️
Ooo that band on the watch is gorgeous 👀
Behind Her Eyes is a limited series on Netflix. It’s pretty good!
It’s VERY accurate to the book. I read the book before watching the series. Really well done
Thanks! You actually recommended some different ones then everyone else! I keep finding it so hard to find new books!!
Omg thank you that’s so sweet! 🥺🙌
The ones i have read from this list I agree with, they DO have great, memorable plot twists. So I'm really looking forward to reading the others!
Wow I have read 8 of the books you mentioned yayy
One more very good recommendation : the disappearance of Stephanie mailer. I love this book. It is very twisty and always there is a new development in almost every chapter. Best thriller I read so far in 2021.
silent patient and turn off the key had my jaw on the floor!! rock paper and scissors made me crazy like wth lol and i loved the vibes of lock every door. i dont know why but i found the push dragging :( i did not like it but i agree with you it has all the fears of being a parent
I saw the title of this video and I Let You Go was the first book I thought of!!
Yah true that twist was mind blowing but you what made my head spin it's I guesses every single one of the twist before
Wow thank you for the recommendations. Love thrillers
Would love to see a reading vlog of you rereading Gone Girl with updated thoughts and any parts of the plot you’d forgotten or overlooked 😊🥰
So kind of you to think of me!! 🥺💛 I actually have Rock Paper Scissors already and I can’t wait to read it 🥰 and omg yes to Confesions, the Push, Local Woman Missing, and They Never Learn!! Such a fantastic list 💛
Of course love!!! 💞 thanks for inspiring me! And ahhh I hope you love Rock Paper Scissors 😍🙌
I think I’ve read all of those except Confessions, and hard agree! Although I didn’t really love The Push. I just finished In My Dreams I Hold a Knife LAST NIGHT and omg, LOVED IT! I feel like No Exit deserves to be on here too.
Finally got near the bone because of you!!! So excited!
Not a thriller, but the best plot twist I read was in the 13th Tale (Setterfeld). Still remember it over a decade later!
The one : it’s so good! It’s like an amazing contemp/sci-fi feel for the first bit. Then it splits into six thrillers! It’s so good!!!
I liked Survive the Night by Riley Sager! Plots twists that I totally wasn’t expecting.
Silent patient affected me so much that I literally think that what happens in this book is what happens in every single thriller.
I love you gabby!! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving
Thank you!! Hope you did as well 🥰
Hi, congratulations for your reviews. I have always followed your advice. I was really struck by the beauty of "Motion Detection", a thriller book that I found by chance on Amz while looking for a new book. The cover intrigued me, it's an unusual book with a spectacular ending, I highly recommend it!
the way that this is just a list of my favorite books 🤣 i didn’t realize how much twists make or break my reading experience!
LOVE In My Dreams I Hold A Knife and Lock Every Door! Love your channel as well!
I just found you and I’m now on a binge of all your videos adding to my TBR 🖤🖤🖤
I'm doing the same right here
I just finished The Push and it was amazing.. it had me up all night after finishing it. I am currently reading Silent Patient.
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters- fabulous story with one crazy plot twist!
I wish I liked "Behind her Eyes". I recommend "One of us is Lying". It's YA, but I think you might like it.
THE PUSH YES - absolutely amazing
The silent patient's plot twist originally copied from one of the "Agatha Christie" popular novel.
Well that author is big fan of "Agatha Christie"
Was it endless night?
@@chenkeith7272 i haven't read that book yet.
@@rajansharma7432 so which Agatha Christie book did silent patient plot twists came from?
I can't say it copied "that" book's twist, but somehow I hate that I already read "that" book by Agatha Christie, because when you read "that" book then read the Silent Patient, the twist is not that shocking. Still a good book. (Only if we talk about the same novel 😅)
@@chenkeith7272 nope
The Wives by Tarryn Fisher had an interesting twist. 😀
Im trying to spark my love for reading again and i love how enthusiastic and passionate your are #new
subbie , i can wait to read some of these books!!!
My absolute favorite kind of videos 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤️

I'm reading the push right now. I'm on page 239.
I also have the books the silent patient and behind her eyes. I'm excited for these(:
Tons of plot twists in Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. Literally one twist after the next after the next!
just finished reading the silent patient IT’S SO GOOD i had to put the book down i was in shockkkkk
I want to read every single one of these books now.🙂
Agree with your plot twists. I'm older, try Sidney Sheldons The Other Side of Midnight or Dennis Lehane Island Shutter Island
I found your channel when you reccomended Unravel by Calia Read which still stands out as the book that started my love for thrillers. I'd love you to reread it and see if you still think the twist is as good as back then 😌
Definitely had to rewatch 12:57 ahahahaha relatable
I’m surprised you didn’t mention What Lies Between Us. That book was nuts and crazy good. All the twists were insanity!!
So true!!
omg that book. it totally screwed me up😭😭 i had to binge watch gilmore girls to get back sane again lol
I have read Lock every door and i was wanting to read the turn of the key but as gabby said the books are quite similar in plot, but can anyone tell me if the big plot twist at the end is also similar in both books?
I'm thrilled to watch this!! Good to see you again gabby. 🥰🤗
I hope you make part2. I really like this one 👍🏻👍🏻
LIKE OH MY GOSH LIKE THIS IS THE BEST EVER AND ALL THE GOOD PARTS HAPPEN HERE AND HERE AND HERE
it's 3 am and i realized i needed a new thriller to read and knew to come to your channel 😍
