  • While in Spain we periodically face more or less intense droughts (very intense in recent times), in Andalusia and Catalonia we continue arguing and fighting about the ownership of water and the way, or rather, no way of distributing it. Meanwhile, some countries are clear that water policy is of general interest and common good, trying to balance what is broken with what is built. While here it is impossible to build a 65-kilometer interbasin water-transfer from the Ebro to one of the large metropolitan areas of Barcelona, in China they have insisted on changing the natural course of its rivers to create authentic engineered rivers with more than 1000 kilometers in length carrying water from the south of the country to the arid north, changing the geopolitics of the state and thus fueling the growth of the country's industrial machinery. Why there and not here?
