That Skoda Rapid was pretty poor for a relatively new car. 30 seconds of cranking, too much revving and then a stall. Must be something wrong with the glow plugs or something.
Its was heated once, you think its enough in -14 C?
maybe if he heat it more?? the second attemp to start , he didnt even wait for plugs to do work..i bet he has gasoline car before..
@@mmilan890 yes in a new Car, the glowplugs Just Need a few Seconds to Work properly. Just Like on that Golf TDI later in the Video
@@fairplayLP glow plugs are on till the light goes off people think you can just keep turning the key on and off rapidly it doesn't help
@@mmilan890 yes, in -14 C it is enough. I have two vag Tdi diesels, 1,9 Tdi and 2,5 Tdi and both start just fine with one clow sykle. Only when it is below -25 C more glow sykles are neaded.
2000 VW Golf 1.9L TDI here. Almost 400,000 miles. Never fails to start with one glow plug cycle and only crank for a second or less. When cranking never go for more than three seconds at a time. Burn up starter. Each time engine is cranked battery amperage is reduced. Prolonged crankling results in starter heating up quickly. Scorch the brushes which cause higher resistance. I have a 900 cold-cranking battery so I'm sure to fire up the first time I crank every time.
Imagine, giving it the full sauce directly after it started.
The real unsung heroes here are the starter motors.
i saw some good batteries in this video
That opel fired right up! Wow
When the glow plug light goes out it doesn’t mean the power has been cut to the glow plugs, it means you can start it.
So there is no reason to cycle the glow plugs, they actually remain powered on for a short time even after the engine has started.
not in old cars necessarily, the relays cut power off
Audi 80 tdi I just love it 😍
My 1983 ford 4610 without glowplugs always starts first crank in -15
"Finnish Webasto" yess..... 😎👍
Best way to star diesel is to put hair fan to blow hot air where the air filter is ...../to have separate pipe opening for hair fan for extreme cold weather starts/ it's gonna start even if the glow plugs are dead at any minus temperature.....
Look at that Cummins
Good job 👌👍👍
Ford Kuga has frozen fuel
👏👏👏
I used to own an 1982 mazda 626 diesel and had a hard time starting in the winter. I later found out that it had an electric inline fuel pump that was put in place by a previous owner but was not working due to wiring. I went ahead and hooked it to a manual switch and wala staring in the winters in Utah were no more a problem. I guess the diesel would drain out of the mechanical fuel pump overnight and would make it difficult to start in the morning. My procedure was I would turn the electric pump on first untill I could hear the pump get quiet I then knew the lines were primed and then I would proceed to depress the accelerator all the way to the floor and crank the key, it would fire right up. I wonder if some of those hard starts are due to fuel draining back to the tank.
I had this issue on a SAAB Twin Turbo diesel I had. The return fuel lines from the injectors (so not under pressure) had gone porous and would allow air in when parked over night leading to poor starting and a lumpy idle.
very important is to put anti gel additive to diesel, my Jeep Liberty CRD will start up to minus 10 even without glow plugs heating
11:44 high pressure pump and injectors mustbe loving the show...
Diesel in cold climates has anti-freeze additives.
I'll repeat until people understand that glow plugs in diesel is enough to go out once, if the car has goid diesel, compression and injector it should start very easily
In normal conditions yes, there's many gasoline cars who also have a hard time with this weather
harmful for the engine at those degrees to start. But it's an engine, it has to start in any conditions.
its not harmful if you you good proper oil.
The ford sounds like it has a bag of bolts in the engine
Recently switched back to petrol for the first time in about 13 years and I don't regret it. We had temps down to -18c in February and my 1.4 TSI fired straight up with no extra cranking or lumpy idling etc. Even with it's failing battery (which did fail after a week due to short journeys with lots of heated seats usage!) It was firing straight up.
Always remember to rev a diesel to only about 1000 rpm when cold starting any more or less is unnecessary wear on the engine
Most modern diesels rev themselves up on a very cold start. My previous Octavia 1.9 TDI 105 would idle at 1100rpm for a minute on a cold start. And even up to 1200rpm once when the battery got low.
I started my car in 60 degrees once. Man it took awhile to get it going.
I have to wonder if the reason the Toyota wouldn't start was because the piston rings wouldn't hold enough compression at 600,000KM. Sure, the engine was at a disadvantage because it was a mechanical injection prechamber engine, but even a modern engine would be difficult or impossible to cold start if it couldn't pass a compression test.
Thankfully, if that truck body was in good shape, rebuilding the engine might not be too expensive and worthwhile.
what does engine oil use ?
I had a opel vectra c 1.9 cdti....
It fired the second you touched the key... even at -15 ...
below minus 18 and more won't start without anti gel additive
Basically a Fiat 1.9 jtd engine. Good engines
A gdzie on był zamontowany?
@@fixknorr8121 Witaj.
Weird. My 10 yrsold 1.7 diesel always start up after second even at -25 celcius. Are all those cars broken or sth?
I was asking myself the same thing. Got a 2013 1.5dci, it started immediately at -27
You wait until you all have to have EVs and the batteries are all dead because of cold!
Not even a problem, they do have electricity, even in Russia. Keep 'em plugged in and just go. In Vladivostok area EVs are already mainstream, they import used EVs from Japan > cheaper to run, more reliable in cold.
@@Mariini well it will be as many Russian live in high rise flats, what will they do…hang 100m of cable out the window on the 4th floor!
Regarding the cold, we’ll it’s a well known problem that the distance these EV can do is vastly reduced when the cold gets into them.
@@Mariini Are they importing old Nissan Leaf (Leaves?) from Japan? Those have like 150km of range if that lol. They’re about the only common used EV in Japan at the moment and they’re pretty much trash.
-35 in Russia sounds such a lovely place remind me never to go there
@@NaticusFetch51 and in other parts of Russia -35 is considered autumn/fall 👍🏻🇬🇧
@@NaticusFetch51, Yes indeed Russia has a very diverse climate across its eleven time zones it is a huge country 👍🏻🇬🇧
1:24 LOL BAD ENGINE🤬☣
W tych autach montowano fabrycznie podgrzewacz paliwa.
@@DG-cl2yy no to jest moc 💪
O really thought the Skoda Rapid starter will start a fire hahaha
Geez. That guy was begging for a new starter to be put in! Talk about overheating it..
Doesn’t seem like a well maintained car either. Such a new car should start right away.
Doesn’t seem like a well maintained car either. Such a new car should start right away.
@@pilskadden yep, he must have a bad glow plug or 4 OR he might have just had summer blend of diesel or fuel gelling from low quality diesel/extreme cold weather
You need arctic diesel
None of these people use electrcal coolant heaters/oilpan heaters?
Probably because they aren’t an option.
Lmao of course the ford glow plugs don't work
Who needs vacuum lines if you can burn them away?
Is there a method so that car doesn't loose its heat overnight ??
Keep it in a heated garage?
Many diesel vehicles in USA have a plug-in coolant heater installed in the engine block or radiator hose. Mine will get engine (6.7L) to around 100F/37C depending on air temp.
Fórmula
(10 °C × 9 / 5) + 32 = 50 °F
Wtf you use to convert the temp???
I use an internet converter, but since I started doing C and F in my compilations, I've nearly memorized how much is how much lol.
@@WymiataczPlays then what is the reference temperature? C or F
@@gmigai24 You can adjust it. If I get a coldstart video with temp given in F and I don't know what it is in C, I put in the value in F, and it converts it to C and vice versa. (rapidtables dot com) Anyways I find it correct. 10C is 50F indeed, -10C is 14F.
@@WymiataczPlays 👍
Simple, if you experience cold weather don't buy a diesel.
.that golf has an extra chamber not fair.....................others got pure fuel- inject
Hang a 100 w
Light bulb under the hood
It would keep it warm
Does nothing by -30
ahrs ahrs ahrs…the poor’s volkswater eheheheh
pourquoi un diesel en siberie ?
1:25 That 1.6 tdi is one of the worst engine in the VAG group ...
This whole series should be called; trashing starter motors.
Yea better to just leave them there until summer arrives 🤷🏻♂️ or could just push start them every morning to save the starter
This is horrible, how can you do this every day in winter? Driven over 10 years with 2005 Toyota Prius and it stars every time under 2 second. Min temp was one week in -27 Celsius and still. No wonder they want to ban fossil cars. Interesting to see how electric cars start when you leave them for a week without charging about -30 C ?
What is it with the vids from russia always having some cheap sounding electronics saying something when they turn on the ignition?
Probably some cheap Chinese dashcam
Kuga should have started easier. American stuff always hardest to start.
MY GOD PLEASE STOP
Gruz to gruz.

What's your alternative? Push it?
1:10 STOP CRANKING

The skoda started shockingly poor. Just a bit over 100k km but starts as if it had half a million. VW quality 💩
