Big mistake of mine in this video, that 1949 JD tractor is a gasoline (spark ignition) engine, not a diesel, granted it sounded like one when trying to spring to life but it's a gasser. Excuse my ignorance guys:(

Slowly, no rush, no pedal to metal, its freezing, the oil enter in all engine running parts, excellent !

Fun video. But that JD B is an ignition engine. They never made the B in a diesel. But those are some large bores to try and get warm enough to run.

I had a JD model 40 for very long time and at -35 to -40 here in Quebec Canada he was a starter , my modification was it was modified on 12 volts , the starter was redone on 12 volt , 12 volts coils and ignition system and a AC DELCO alternator and all lights and gages on 12 volts too , when I was on 6 volts I was using one of my sailboat batteries that is a 6 volts 400 amps AGM to boost but after some time I have toasted the starter ….

Unfortunately I made a mistake, that tractor is not a diesel, it's a gasoline engine, as I specified in the pinned comment. Granted it kinda sounds like a diesel when winding up, that's why I got fooled too - but it's not.

      A dually diesel pulling hard
with a horse trailer in tow
Montana side of sweet grass and I’m a headed home
Trophy buckles and wiskey bottles and a worn out sattle horn
Bear back riders and team ropers, huskin taber corn
Well the roads get better every time I cross north of 49
And I tip my hat and it’s good to be back across the menacing line
I’m a hurtin Albertan with nothin more to loose
Too much oil money not enough booze
East of the Rockies and west of the rest
I do my best to do my damndest and that about all I guess
Them windy BC mountain passes finally flatten up
Hairpin turns and pst’s got my heart up in my throat
It’s hair haulin horses up across the great divide
And them wild chilcotin buckaroos they sure know how to ride
Well the roads get better every time I cross that British Columbia line
I tip my hat and it’s good to be back down off the kickin horse line
Hurtin Albertan with nothin more to loose

      Well saskaboosh is pretty
      Yep she’s pretty flat
The lord knows I’m a prairie boy and I’m pretty used to that
But watchin farmers battle gophers man it ain’t the same
As bein home at the saddle dome for the oilers at the flames
Well them roads get better every time I cross that Saskatchewan line
I tip my hat and it’s good to be back on mountain standard time
Hurtin Albertan with nothin more to loose
too much oil money never enough booze

Yes, the Amish scrap starts super well in winter. Good if you always have new batteries mounted, but otherwise it will be a tragedy.
