the detroit series 71 are one of the best if not the best diesel engine series ever built they have no rivals in terms of reliability , however the fact is the fuel consumption is quite bad this is true. the 2 stroke 71 is a better engine than any 4 stroke version period.
Detroit Diesel Engines were not the worst but actually the best Diesel Engines. Only Engine I know is really bad from Detroit Diesel is the 8.2 fuel Pincher
Who the hell created this video, AI? Pretty much trashed the whole Detroit 2 stroke line and that's not fair. Yet you fail to mention the one Detroit Diesel that was a failure, the 8.2L four stroke Fuel Squeezer.
Yes, it's AI that scoured the internet finding all of the issues that each of the mentioned engines encountered during their lifetimes. It's absolute garbage slop. Also the B-roll doesn't line up.
I actually prefer 4-Stroke engines, for their fuel efficiency, even though, the 2-Stroke engines have much better throttle response. For a standby generator, you can't beat Detroit, because their torque is instantaneous. they respond immediately to sudden changes in load. Their only downside, is their lower fuel efficiency. for emergency/backup use, that's just fine. If you have to rely on a diesel generator as a primary power source, a 4-stroke engine is much more economical, both in fuel and oil consumption.
If these engines were so bad, then why were they almost always in every diesel fire truck up through the mid 90s? The 2 stroke diesels are the best sounding diesel engines ever made, and VERY reliable. The only bad engine on the list is the 8.2 4 stroke Fuel Pincher, although they have also racked up many miles with proper care. Even the best diesel engines aren't perfect
Every single one of these engines are in yachts, commercial boats, work boats etc. whoever came up with video clearly does not know about the marine industry. These engines are still running today and peope choose to rebuild these rather than replace with 4 strokes for a reason.
this is the stupidest video I've ever seen. It's poorly done, talking about a particular model and showing pictures of a different one. you showed a 12 v 71 from a tv show and talked about a 12v92. The bigger engines were not designed to go into an over the road truck. The guy talking is just a voice actor reading a script....doesn't know shit about anything he read, most of which wasn't true. Just trying to get views and make money. Useless.
There was not one thread of truth in any of that video.

Sounds like someone that drives a EV
