Anyone watching in 2020? Wow this is a blast from the past! You can catch the updated version of this video right here: ruclips.net/video/EilTu7iyiXA/видео.html
Just started looking into learning GarageBand about a week ago, and came across your tutorial. Very helpful and informative, learned VERY important basics - especially lining up the track pitch- and time-wise. Thank you!
This is the first of your videos that I have watched and it has inspired me to hit subscribe as your methods and explanations etc are simple, done at a steady pace and put into context with the project you are working on.....thanks! x
If you've recorded a software instrument track, you can change the instrument by opening the track info pane ( CMD + i) and selecting different sounds from the info tab.
Garage Band is HIGHLY underrated. I recorded an entire album by myself when I was 14. Dont get me wrong, its no masterpiece and needs some SERIOUS mastering, but its a great program.
I've never used FL studio, but having used Logic Express it does just what I need. It doesn't have as many editing tools or effects, but GB is still great. And I only used a mic for acoustic guitars and vocals.
I'm posting this to clarify the issue of what version of Garageband has Groove Track (GT) functionality so others don't waist hours of their time trying to figure out what version of Garageband has GT. First of all it is Groove Track not Groove Match. Garageband 5.1 did have GT functionality however if you upgraded to a version of the Lion operating system greater than 10.75, the GT functionality was lost. It is now only available on the new overhauled Garageband 11. It was particularily confusing because the video definetly shows a Garageband 5 version, not the new 11 version, however the video dude answered a post saying that it is only available on version 11. So video dude, firstly, I thought you did an awesome job on the video and it helped me a lot but secondly, leaving a good trail of the software versions used in your videos would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Tom. It's Garageband '11 in the video (from the iLife '11 suite of software). The NEW version of Garageband is in fact called Garageband 10.0 (or Garageband X, depending who you talk to). You're right about the name of the Groove Track - However, the process of *using* the Groove track is called "Groove Matching". The "trail of software version", as you've put it, goes like this: The application was announced during Steve Jobs’s keynote speech at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco on January 6, 2004; musician John Mayer assisted with its demonstration. GarageBand 2 was announced at the 2005 Macworld Conference & Expo on January 11, 2005. It shipped, as announced, around January 22, 2005. Major new features included the abilities to view and edit music in musical notation, to record up to 8 tracks at once, to fix timing and pitch of recordings, to automate track pan position, master volume, and master pitch, to transpose both audio and MIDI, and to import MIDI files. GarageBand 3, announced at 2006’s Macworld Conference & Expo, includes a 'podcast studio', including the ability to use more than 200 effects and jingles, and integration with iChat for remote interviews. GarageBand 4, also known as GarageBand '08, is part of iLife '08. It incorporates the ability to record sections of a song separately, such as bridges, and chorus lines. Additionally, it provides support for the automation of tempos and instruments, the creation and exportation of iPhone ringtones, and a "Magic GarageBand" feature which includes a virtual jam session with a complete 3D view of the instruments. GarageBand 5 is part of the iLife '09 package. It includes music instruction, and allows the user to buy instructional videos by contemporary artists. It also contains new features for electric guitar players, including a dedicated 3D Electric Guitar Track containing a virtual stompbox pedalboard, and virtual amplifiers with spring reverb and tremolo. GarageBand 5 also includes a cleaner, redesigned user interface as well as Project Templates. GarageBand 6, also known as GarageBand '11, is part of the iLife '11 package, which was released on October 20, 2010. This version brings new features such as Flex Time, a tool to adjust the rhythm of a recording. *It also includes the ability to match the tempo of one track with another instantly,* additional guitar amps and stompboxes, 22 new lessons for guitar and piano, and "How Did I Play?", a tool to measure the accuracy and progress of a piano or guitar performance in a lesson. [From the Garageband Wikipedia page] As you can see, the Groove Track wasn't introduced until Garageband '11. It was never available for use in Garageband '09 (Garageband 5). Lion had nothing to do with it. Thanks for watching! Patrick (The video dude)
You are the grrrroove master! Thanks for your easy-to-understand explanations! (p.s. I've already got a project up and running on my channel, if you'd like to check it out)
Great video! Garageband is a pretty incredible piece of software especially when you realize that it's free! I just did a video talking about Garageband on my channel as well!
ya no how you said at around 3.13 that was horrible, it actually wasn't lol. If you can picture a car sitting outside in the dark with its lights off, but you can tell by the street light that theirs 2 guys in the car, ones screwing on a silencer to a gun. The other looks up and sees you looking out the window. Music is all about imagination, not the right key ;) but great video none the less, i did learn a few tips lol
I just want to replicate a show I do at the radio station--some narration (by me) and pre-recorded music. I own Sound Studio, which is only one track--awkward for voice-overs and even for moving from mic to music and back. Also, considering Audacity and Adobe Audition (the program I have to use at the radio station).
Perfect video thank you so much. Now i have a question for you. I have recorded a conversation with my iphone but it's sound quality is not that perfect. There is noise and air recorded as well. Is there anyway for me to important that to Garageband and work on it? If yes how should i proceed? Have you already done a video on that? Thanks again
Thanks Patrick for the tutorial, emails, and starter guide. I have Garageband 10 and had two questions regarding this video: 1. I can't see the pitch slider as you've shown in my version of Garageband (GB10). Is it still there? 2. Same question with Groove matching. Is it in GB10? I followed what you did but there's no star to the left hand side of the track to choose. Thanks again, Jeff
Love your song title! Do you have a tutorial for GarageBand 10? (which I am just starting on) It is quite different from the version in the above tutorial. Thanks.
Hey man that´s the version 6 right ? could you please tell me where can i find it ... i´ve been looking that version for so long and i can´t find it or if you could upload it i would really appreciate it that :)
This is probably going to get some of users with more experience mad at me, but the title of the video says "For Beginers". As a beginner who has never used Garage Band before, I still have no idea what you are talking about. You are using terms which I've never heard of and I'm just as lost now as I was before watching your video. Is there any way you can make it a little easier for true beginners to follow along?
I wish i could get this old version of garageband on my computer. I have dozens of songs saved that barely work with the new version and apple does not support old versions of the app.
What mac do you have I honesly just want to know so I can buy it for my homestudio . And since I make music I should only need to purchase a mic right ?
I have a question how can I export a song to youtube? Every time I try to share it to youtube it says my login or password is incorrect but I know I've used the right ones, and I've redone it.
Hey I'm 15 trying to figure out what I wanna do when I get older.. Always had love for music so I decide to make my own beat all I'm asking is for u to hear one beat of mine tht I made and tell me what you think thanks!

Is the point are garage band is software for record music OR software for make music without record any instrument?? I'm still confused.. I'm beginner and wanna try.. anyone can answer me? ((': thanks..

Did you use a mic or what? & is garage band just a recording Program or it's like FL studio?
I've never used FL studio, but having used Logic Express it does just what I need. It doesn't have as many editing tools or effects, but GB is still great. And I only used a mic for acoustic guitars and vocals.

Groove matching is only available on the most recent version of Garageband - you should definitely upgrade if you can!
