Such an incredible series. A masterpiece in my book. On the outside it looks like any sci-fi anime, but if you know you know. It has so many metaphors and messages about the value of life and relationships and loyalty. I also have such a crush on Kirito.
I love SAO too . And I have crush on Asuna .

I recommend this to anyone who wants to get into anime, or just anyone in general. If you don't like anime because they have "insane powers", then this is for you, because they're in a virtual world and in the real world they're just normal people with enhanced technology. Very good anime and the new season should be dropping in a year or two, so start watching!

This was once considered by many the greatest anime of all time, until it reached late 2016 where a lot of people become "anime connoisseur" and just criticize the hell of this anime.
I mean, a lot of them were right, and some were wrong tho.

I think this anime is one where if you look deeply into it and push aside its flaws, there is lots to love and you will see it as one of the best. SAO isn't about Sword Art Online. It's about how a boy who was a loner managed to make friends and fall in love through what he loved. Video games. To see all these people spew on about how they changed location, remember, Kirito found someone to love, so the ALfheim stuff was about how he went to extreme measures for love

I'm rewatching SAO again.
I noticed a lot of people complain about the anime and a lot of animes.
I like the anime as it is, but watching episode 1, I do feel I would have liked to see more of Kirito's story from the beginning. He started so scared, level one, unsure if he could even make it. I know doing so would change the entire anime, but I would have liked something like that to exist. Character development more closely matched like in Re zero.
Well in that case, I suggest you to read Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel if you haven't read it yet.

Season 1 was such a beautifully crafted masterpiece. The amount of chills I got so many times seeing Kirito be a heroic individual and bond romantically with Asuna, seeing them have eachothers back. Truly beautiful man.
I have multiple Sword Art Online action figures too. Like Funko Pops and Nendoroids.
I love this anime, every story always said "a ChRaCter haS to HaVE DeVElOpMent" but what mades this story so good is that the characters are just being themselves, they don't have a huge moral awakening, it's just them being themselves, solving problems and playing games. This fact alone makes it the greatest anime of all time.

Favorite Anime that I've ever watched. Period. If you're contemplating watching this show, let me ask you this: If you like anime with very fluid animation, fantastic, and I mean FANTASTIC story line, lovable and dorky but incredibly strong characters, you'll love this show. I remember reading somewhere that Asuna (female lead in the show) would make the best wife out of the entirety of anime. She's also just about as strong as Kirito (male lead), which you don't often see as some (not all!) girls in anime are portrayed as the 'oh-I'm-stuck-in-a-castle-come-save-me-prince-charming' kind of role. Overall, my only complaint with the show is that it's so short! They don't do a floor-by-floor each episode like the SAO progressive novels. But to anyone who's contemplating watching this, or even if you've never watched anime before, this is a great one to start with and stay with. My buddy who despises anime loves SAO. Personally, I prefer the first half of SAO 1 only, as the second half is less my style of gaming, but it's still very good nonetheless. SAO II (2) is great as well but a different style of gaming.

Sword Art Online is not a perfect anime, but no anime is perfect.
I started with Sword Art Online, I stayed with it, and nonetheless, I love it. The light novels, the comic, the anime, everything. Sword Art Online has a special place in my heart. I love it, and I agrre with what you said.
The storyline was okay, not fantastic, the characters have barely any personality, kirito is almost too flawless, the games in sao doesn't seem to be.... good, and more

Looking back at this at the time underworld is launching is crazy! This escalated to a point in time where you can see it isn’t a game anymore, as it’s really in depth now. I’m really hyped for the new underworld part launching out, doubt nobody else is. Anyways - watching the trailer again expresses allot of emotion through out the years I’ve been seeing this anime in. All I can say is thanks for making it as it is.

I remember watch SAO back in 2014 when my sister had introduced me into anime. SAO had been my favorite anime since and when I started watching alicization during Covid I got the feels back from this amazing anime and was lucky enough to experience the wait for alicization WoU Pt 2. I still miss SAOMD though and miss SAOARS(UB)

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash has a 1 Season show, although the light novels go much farther. I think it takes this idea of relationship development farther and it does it with a whole party of characters.

It's not about dub quality, its about originality, and japanese is beautiful language. Most beautiful language in my opinion. So I would never put any quality/language dub to any japanese anime. It worked fine in Mushishi, since cant find the original voice and it was high quality tho.

I used to hate animes. Then I started watching SAO, and I'm reconsidering. And I REALLY used to hate their songs, like the one that appears near the end of the trailer, but now I'm starting to like THAT one, too! Damn it, SAO, you've changed my whole oppinion about everything regarding anime!

1995Macdevis Do you know any good and relatively modern, character-based mecha-animes, with fast-paced action scenes? I've watched a few fight scenes from Gundam, and they're amazing! Most of them anyway. Those that spend five minutes building up with the charaters talking to each other, then are over in one single blow with lots of beams of light flying around, they're just silly.
Gui Caldo I don't know a full mechanic anime, but there's some steampunk things and great action in Attack on Titan. And Genos in One Punch Man is a pretty cool cyborg :) Also you can try to search for "darker" animes. Like the movie Akira, or some Miyasaki movies, like Nausicaa or The Flying Castle.
Let's be honest here, even if this anime was not perfect, it was the gate that open to all the mmorpg anime.

Sword Art Online is an anime about people getting trapped in a video game. Yet for some people to be trapped in a video game is one of the most amazing things possible. Some people want to be forever trapped in a video game. In this anime it is also "If I die in the game I die in real life.", yet some video game fans would prefer that the last moments of their life would be in a video game rather than in real life... Personally i prefer that the last moments of my life would be with computer :)
