    Your awesome. I love the very scientific results, from a fellow engineer. Would be great if you can also test the accuracy of the Fitbit's Sp02 sensor, since it uses reflective technology, if its accurate. Thanks for all the info, really great. Keep up the great work!

    Your videos are incredibly helpful. It is so difficult to find information that supports the "marketing" claims of those products. It's extremely nice to not only have access to data on all these products, but also that this information is objective and reliable. A big thank you for all your efforts to facilitate access to this information allowing us to make informed decisions and not lose hundreds of dollars on ineffective products.

      1. Fitbit best for sleep tracking but heart rate is hit and miss, good for cardio, bad for weight lifting, HIIT
      2. Apple Watch fantastic heart rate tracking, non existent sleep tracking.
      3. Oura 3 great sleep, not much else
      4. Whoop about as good as Fitbit and good community features but super expensive
      5. Garmin and other brands just don’t stack up to the above

    Thank your very much for this detailed analysis! I'm looking forward to your other Charge 5 videos. I like my Charge 5 so far. The only complaint I have is that the heart rate tracking is absolutely terrible. Resting heart rate is OK, but the moment your heart rate gets a bit more dynamic the reading is very much behind and off.

    The conclusion I draw from watching every video on your channel is that currently we need to wear 2 devices - one that can measure sleep cycles accurately and one that can measure daytime activities accurately (and which might also need to measure overnight blood oxygen levels accurately, if the other device isn't capable!).

    It pretty sucks that the watch doesnt tell you WHEN u fell asleep. I have the watch and ive connected it to an app called „somnio“. Its an app that my sleep doctor prescribed, and you can sync your fitbit sleep data with the somnio app. One thing thats not transfering to the somnio app is the „when you fell asleep“. Because obviously the fitbit cant recognise it?!?!

  • @peterfaherty3936
    @peterfaherty3936 2 года назад +1

    i have a feeling that fitbit’s algorithm does more of an educated guess than true sleep “tracking”. I’m thinking the designers of the algorithm know that we get more deep sleep and less REM in the beginning of the night and less deep sleep and more REM in the middle and end of the night. I think they use that to make the fitbit more likely to predict those sleep stages depending on which stage of the night it is rather than actually tracking the physiological that’s coming through the fitbit.

  • @stevenr5149

    The Fitbit does not reliably record daytime sleep. I recorded my sleep every single night before I started working the overnight--in hopes to use the Fitbit when I started working the over-nights to improve my sleep during the day.
    It worked great and took a minute to Sync.
    Now, when I try to sync in after waking in the afternoon, the sync locks up for 10 minutes, then shows nothing :(
    It must have "smart"(super-stupid) AI that does not easily recognize daytime sleep.
    Great content. Thanks for such a great effort.

  • @martin_in_the_alps

    Thanks for the test results. Since the fitbit detects to much deep sleep, my question is: Is the deep sleep 100% defined, what it is or is it possible, that it measures the same, but for the algorithm it is not deep enough?

    • @DragonofStorm
      @DragonofStorm 2 года назад +1

      Maybe the algorithm isn't explicit e.g. like training a neuron network on the data?

    • @LiveType
      @LiveType 2 года назад +2

      Fitbit is a Google company. 0% chance the sleep tracking isn't a combination of neural nets. Can't really say what exactly counts as deep sleep. Best to read up. Whatever articles say is probably what the algorithm picks up on.
      I'm guessing it's trained using a ton of eeg devices using Google employees which is probably why no other trackers really come close to fitbits.

    This is exactly what I wanted to know - I've only had my Mi Band 6 for a few days but am considering giving it to my dad and getting a Charge 4 for myself. I especially want the better sleep tracking, and I miss the altimeter that my old Charge HR had (that the Charge 4 has but Charge 5 doesn't). If there's no sleep tracking difference between 4 and 5, I'll just get the 4 at half the price of the 5 👍

    Just returned mine charge 5 after almost 2 weeks. Bought two of them, one for my mom. For her its working perfectly but for me its not tracking bev whatever I tried even when we switch them. For me it was even worse and as well for her I lost skin temperature and her lost another 2 metrics (tested after switch for 2 or 3 days). So return mine and went back to inspire 2 and order charge 4 from marketplace (30€ for charge 4 second hand but charge 5 160€ ) and yeah ecg is not working in slovakia whatever you tried (switched location,language, turned of location and also tried some things with mobile setings tried different things on both of them but nothing works )

    Can someone explain why is it considered a good sleep tracker if the overall accuracy is barely above 70%? I'd expect in order for a tracker to be considered as 'good', it would need to have 95% accuracy, or at least 90% - am I missing something?

    • @philipshifrin549
      @philipshifrin549 2 года назад +3

      It's "good" simply compared to everything else available on the market. I bought in the last month Apple watch, garmin forerunner and fitbit inspire to figure out what is actually a good health tracker. Apple watch is a total garbage it doesnt do anything good besides heart rate, not measuring sleep stages at all and 3rd party apps are random made up numbers. Garmin has a sleep tracker but after wearing it at the same time with Fitbit I now know that it's just terrible, would say 25% accuracy. It's only good for running and doesnt make sense to wear the rest of the day at all.
      Fitbit's 70% hence is a real breakthrough in this case.

    Interessant. Zou je een dergelijke test ook kunnen doen met de MiBand? De slaapanalyse daarvan is grafisch vergelijkbaar met die van Fitbit, maar gezien de prijsklasse zou je kunnen verwachten dat de resultaten minder accuraat zijn. Ik heb momenteel een MiBand 6 en overweeg een Fitbit te kopen maar ben benieuwd of de hogere prijs het waard is.

    What's going on with the sleep accuracy chart (4:27 in this video)? Watches change position depending on video. For example Garmin Venu 2 is 65% / 43% in this video, but in GTR3 video (14 nov, 7:24in) it's 58% / 24%, same as in redmi wach2lite video (26 dec, 5:53 in), and in Whoop Strap4 video (21 nov, 6:43 in) it's 58% / 57%. Other watches moved too, like the huawei watch3.

    Now if only they can fix the weak HR tracking and bring it in line with the other fitbits

    The Charge 4 would cause weird pinched nerve numbness for me. Do you think the Charge 5 will most likely have the same issue?

    Nice. Subscribed. Would be interested in knowing how much intra model variation these have (ie 'noise') by wearing two of same device on same body (might need to swap wrists to account for dominant hand effects.
