Hi, Qualified Scientist, what do you recommend as best watch /band per value for money. Not needing luxury or status concerned product. would be highly obliged
Good freaking job man ! As a data scientist I always struggle with reviews that are not backed up by data and are too subjective. This just hits the spot for me !
THANK YOU! Your content is great, and this video is exactly what I was searching for. The comparison chart of all the tested products is more helpful than I know how to say. Thanks again man.
Great information! An interesting thing I found for when Inspire 3 counts steps when it shouldn't---when ringing handbells! Obviously, not something that the majority of people do, but when I am rehearsing handbell ringing, it definitely counts that as steps. Originally discovered this by accident when the "you've reached your step goal" notification went off close to the end of a rehearsal (we stand at a table when ringing, so no walking around). But it does not count steps when pushing a cart around the grocery store, so I figure it sort of evens out!
This video is amazing! The amount of depth & research put into testing and production is the most useful review I've seen from so many 'wearable' videos bar none. I'm happy to discover this channel as an alternative to click-bait-y RUclipsrs merely regurgitating the product specs. Bravo!
Bought it in October and had to return due to screen touch error (it kept manipulating on the screen itself). However, I highly appreciate its ability to track sleep - super accurate every time I wake up in the middle of the night or wake up in the morning.
Amazing video as always. I just bought my Inspire 3 a week ago and I am super happy with its performance. I can’t put it in numbers like the video, but I believe that the heart rate monitor is accurate enough for spinning and doing some exercise at home. I do believe that i counts more steps, but overall I’m happy with the performance. The app shows a lot of information (even without the premium subscription) and I find it very helpful as a health tracker over all
May I ask which version of Android you are using? (My favorite device runs 8.1, so the app can be installed but not updated. So I wonder about compatibility...)
Hi Rob, Thanks a lot for all these tests, videos, advice and comparaisons. It is a huge and great job that you make for your community and anyone who is looking for objective datas. I post here in the last video I found for ask if you have plan to test the last creation of withings (the body scan). Yes it is not a watch but, like you did the sleep analyzer I thought that could be in your plan ;^p.
This was an amazing video! I really appreciate the data-driven approach you take comparing both to the industry gold-standard and across the industry as a whole. I wish you also compared Sp02 as well! Maybe next time =)
I used the Inspire 3 yesterday while doing a workout on a Technogym treadmill and spinning bike. The Technogym equipment measured the exact same heartrate as the Inspire 3. I was quite impressed.
I finally gave in and bought a Versa 4. It's not perfect, but since I won't go Apple, there's not much choice. We'll see how it goes. Thank you for the informative videos!
Try a Whoop strap! that's what I'm planning to get since it has 12 months free when you first purchase it and rob regards it to be pretty accurate overall for everything. Although if I did get a Fitbit the inspire 3 would be the one. Especially after having the inspire 2 it was great.
@@PietriGuitars Yes, like I said the first 12 months are free and after that I can just pay the annual fee to see the data all year long. Rob recommends it for overall health tracking because it gives accurate and reliable data on top of giving great suggestions for improving your health which is intuitive, more so than many health and fitness trackers. Doesn't matter to me as long as the data is accurate my health matters more. If it helps me stay healthier in the long run personally I'm fine with it. It's one of the best recommendations for people that don't have Apple devices or want them and Apple only works with Apple so yeah. At the very least you won't be throwing away that same amount of money on a cheap fitness tracker there are only a few reliable ones out there and they're either really good at one thing and very poor/ mediocre in another. Highly likely they're bad in both the cheaper you get.
I am just interested in a good sleep tracker... Oura and Whoop is to expensive... Then i thought lets go for a one time purchase Fenix 7 or Venu 2 Plus since they have multiple other sports-features i would like to have. However with a fenix I can't sleep anyway. May based on those accuracy tests i just buy the fitbit inspire 3 for sleep tracking. Good idea with bang for the bucket?
I know you wanna test the accuracy of the watches rather than read the datasheets but mentioning some important features would be cool. Like some tracker don't offer a smart alarm: to me that renders the sleep analysis a *lot* less useful. You could even test it: check whether or not it wakes you up when the EEG finds you are in light sleep
I've had one of these for about 2 months now, and I absolutely agree with this review. I love the slim, inconspicuous design, and the functionality is all that I wanted, and more. The low price isn't a bad thing, either.
Is the sleep tracking on the 3 an improvement over the 2? That's all I want to use a Fitbit for and if I get the same performance from the 2 I'd rather get it and save a bit of money.
Thanks for your efforts! I'll wait for your gtr4 review and then I'll make my decision on my next smartwatch (current one just died from salt water xD ) Keep up the good work
Thanks so much! Hi! I collected a lot of data with the GTR4 and GTS4 already, just need to find the time for a video on it😊. Also keep an eye on my shorts channel ;-)
I’m always curious about if you flip the chart. Instead of how much the eeg deep sleep was detected by the Fitbit, whoop, etc. how much of the deep sleep detected by the Fitbit is considered deep by the eeg. I’m not the phd candidate here, so I’m just wondering. It seemed like it might be at least equally useful but maybe more interesting. Current chart: how much of this phase does the device correctly detect? it detected 75% of the deep sleep Chart flipped: how poorly does the device detect this phase? 50% of the detected deep sleep was wrong Again I might be wrong, would be interesting to know why you set the chart the way you do because I’m not sure if it’s more useful to know that it does recognize when you’re in deep sleep with a small percentage of false negatives or if it’s more useful to know that it does detect deep sleep with a lot of false positives. Something about it, I lean towards looking at my watch data and asking how much of the deep sleep is actually deep sleep rather than did it catch all of the deep sleep? Of course this wouldn’t be the complete picture either. If you made it through my incoherent rambling this far, I would like to see both charts. Including the scatterplot. I think it would be interesting.
Hi! That makes complete sense, and I will consider it :-)! Might be interesting to show these two average values on both axis of my plots. Showing both in a video on detail might be a bit too much for people ;-) 😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientist I agree with you that both might be a bit much. I'm not entirely sure which one is more useful or if it is best to display them on one chart. I think your scatterplot makes sense. I'm not sure how you would show the two averages on the plot, that chart might be a bit confusing. I'm trying to understand myself what it might mean. Might be better to keep things the way they are. 😂 right now it is the average of the percent of "true" positives vs the lowest percent of "true" positive for the 4 stages. Did I say that correctly? The alternative you suggested would be the average of the the percent of true positives vs the average percent of false positives? so if 70% of deep sleep is labeled deep sleep, 80% of light sleep, 60% of REM, and 70% of wakefulness. one axis would have 70% But if 50% of what the watch called deep sleep was wrong, 10% of the watch's light sleep was wrong, etc. then you would take the average of those and put them on the other axis? I don't know if I have this correct, but it might be too confusing to do it this way without showing the data that led to it. Might be better just to keep doing things the way you're doing them? I'm really working hard to not cross the line into telling you how to do your job because I really don't know, I'm just being curious. Please don't make any changes unless you believe in them. maybe a link to a second chart in the video details for myself and the 4 people who upvoted my comment 😂

Fitbit is great for sleep tracking it is small and comfortable for me than Apple Watch in bed. But this is just my opinion. Apple Watch are overall the best . But I am considering Huawei GT3 pro for day and this Fitbit just for sleep tracking. Thanks for reviews u are doing very good job. Nobody does this deep research about smartwatches/bands.

Love the methods and data analysis.. Just one thing that I wanted to check. I own a scan watch 2 and was getting poor readings before I reread the instructions where they require you to fasten it higher up in the forearm rather than your wrist. I've I did that readings were much better. Might be worth retesting and ranking of this was not accounted for. Will be good to know either way.
Sir (as a show of my respect) - is there a chance to see your charts where you compare all the devices together per category: HRV, et? Would be good for user then to pick proper model with right price/value ratio. Thanks in advance Cheers
Hi Rob. I had a question regarding the new Inspire 3 and the Charge 5. I'm looking for a fitness tracker with a focus on good to decent sleep tracking capability. Do you think the new Inspire 3 is in any way better or more accurate than the older Charge 5 when tracking sleep? My reasoning is that since the Inspire 3 is newer maybe Fitibit have had more time to work on the sensor and it's a bit "better" than the Charge 5.
My I ask a data science question?- your HR ability ranking employs the correlation with the Polar H10, with the time along the x-axis. Do you adjust the HR traces to allow for the devices not being on exactly the same time (if they are not all GPS-connected, for instance or if the device processing introduces slight delay to the trace) ? This is really the same question: what would be the correlation between a device trace and exactly the same trace delayed by 1 or 2 seconds? Thanks
Hi William! I do not correct for this. I generally try to inspect if there are any major issues, but this might have some minor effects. I could try different shifts (e.g. 15 second each way at 1 sec intervals) for each exercise, and select the one with the best correlation. Something to consider for the future.😊
@@TheQuantifiedScientist I think you can safely use Generalized Cross Correlation with Phase Transform to align the signals. However if the two devices have different sampling frequencies that also should be accounted for and the problem for "optimal" alignment is less trivial.
Hello Rob, how are you? Just for sleep tracking (and maybe step counting), what you would chose between Inspire 3 and Charge 5? The price difference isn't problematic, just want the more accurate between both parameters. For HR tracking I will be using H10, so the Fitbit device will only be for those 2 things.
I’m looking for a thinner band type fitness watch that is good at both sleep tracking and heart rate. Does this exist? Every review I watch of yours it is either good at HR tracking or sleep but not both.
You mention over counting of steps, was that while worn as a watch or in clip mode? It would be interesting to see if having the device clipped closer to your hip would give a more accurate number. And since Fitbit now has a clip mode for some of these smaller trackers, maybe that is a better use.
Hello, Thanks for this great review. Did you will do the review of the new Polar Ignite 3 ? i want to by this watch but i wait to see a test of you in the future ? Thanks.
I have Huawei Gt3 pro and bought Fitbit inspire 3 cause your reviews sugested that it was better for Sleep tracking. I've been slepping with both for a week now and fitbit looks like garbage. The Huawei hits perfectly The time I Sleep and wake. The fitbit miss it by some minutes everytime and even stops to do mesurements of it if i stay wake for a about 20 minutes in the middle of early morning. Huawei NEVER miss it and starts to measure Sleep after I get back to Sleep. About the REM and deep Sleep they agree most of the time. I think you should Sleep with both again to see how better Huawei is.
I don’t like the band on my inspire. It’s fine for sleep but I can’t wear it while working. Personally I preferred my Blaze but my blaze died after like 6 years. It started smoking while charging. That’s when I got the inspire.
You will have to excuse me but you may had skipped over the part that you said in the beginning of "why you may not want to buy one at all" unless that was part of the conclusion of it is just mediocre in GPS and HR?
Pixel Watch 1 or Inspire 3, which has more accurate heart and sleep track monitor? I'm not speake english, so I can't understand what was said in your videos 😢 but seems you do a great and imparciality work
it appears that the luxe is a bit better for heart monitoring but maybe not that much ?i like the inspire 3 but i think the luxe is a little better i would like to compare the 2.. thanks
How does it do without fitbit premium? Ive heard many things on both sides. Some people say its totally usable and you barely lose anything, and aome people say it's useless without premium
I cant decide with all these reviews scientific genius my budget is 150$ and i need one for weightlifting , calorie tracker , step tracker and sleep tracking what do you recommend? Thanjs
I bought it the day before yesterday. Time is always not accurate. I ask their customer service for help but the fault is still there. Seems that it is not stably sync with phone.

I'm looking for a fitness tracker with a focus on good to decent sleep tracking capability.
Do you think the new Inspire 3 is in any way better or more accurate than the older Charge 5 when tracking sleep?
My reasoning is that since the Inspire 3 is newer maybe Fitibit have had more time to work on the sensor and it's a bit "better" than the Charge 5.
great job man
Dankjewel Rob
Go for Fitbit Inspire 3, see 17:05 for reference.
I’m looking for a thinner band type fitness watch that is good at both sleep tracking and heart rate. Does this exist? Every review I watch of yours it is either good at HR tracking or sleep but not both.
Ordered this model! Thank you for your videos--love them. Quick question.. what glasses are those. I've been looking for frames like this.
You mention over counting of steps, was that while worn as a watch or in clip mode? It would be interesting to see if having the device clipped closer to your hip would give a more accurate number. And since Fitbit now has a clip mode for some of these smaller trackers, maybe that is a better use.
wow, amazing vid!
What should I pick, inspire 3 or luxe
Still worth to buy inspire TWO now if it’s just half of the price? I’m thinking to buy inspire 2 for my 8-10 years old kids. Thanks.
I don’t like the band on my inspire. It’s fine for sleep but I can’t wear it while working. Personally I preferred my Blaze but my blaze died after like 6 years. It started smoking while charging. That’s when I got the inspire.
Nap tracking is major plus that alone should make it better than Apple. I have ultra 2 and hate it , I. Prefer galaxy 5 for sleep tracking
You will have to excuse me but you may had skipped over the part that you said in the beginning of "why you may not want to buy one at all" unless that was part of the conclusion of it is just mediocre in GPS and HR?
Hi,
Which watch has the best spo2 tracking for those with sleep apnea?
Thanjs
What would be the best EKG, Afib, detection watch, that is not an apple?
I'm having trouble syncing my Fitbit with my phone- any suggestions?
I wonder after many months the HR tracking improved with firmware updates, torn between this and Charge 6 for both HR and sleep tracking
What did you end up getting and how has your experience been?
@@dinudoncool as of now i haven't bought anything, figured i might wait for the Charge 7 and get that
I bought it the day before yesterday. Time is always not accurate. I ask their customer service for help but the fault is still there. Seems that it is not stably sync with phone.
