My mom placed a sheet of pictures of orchestral instruments on the dinner table when I was five “which instrument do you want to play” I thought of Roy Clark and I said to “the guitar” I am now 62 years old I’ve been playing guitar since that day and because of my favorite band Andre Crouch and the Disciples I have writing Gospel songs since the age of 7!
Caravan was written by Duke Ellington and is considered a jazz standard, but this surf rock version has been done by Dick Dale, Santo & Johnny and others. Then I came across this version while watching a few old Hee Haw episodes. I don't ever remember hearing it, but I am so glad I did. Such an eclectic talent! Country, bluegrass, rock, jazz, and now surf rock. Roy was a wizard.
Actually some controversy in that. Folks claiming Juan Tizol actually wrote it, and Ellington arranged it (and kinda stole it) for his jazz orchestra...

Roy Clark us one bad dude! This instrumental is epic!
That was exquisite. Captivating. The man was like a freak of nature with so much talent
Guitar genious sadly so underrated.
And a comic genious due to compensating for his stage fright and shyness.
I love this man and fabulous performer.
Terrific. Just terrific!!!!!!
How in the ever living fuck are there only 2 comments on this video?? This dude is the epitome of technical perfection. So GOOD!
Watching a master musician create music art.
Loving Roy Clark's version of Caravan!
As for jazz guitar, Roy was always the most joyful...M
This is from an early 1969 Hee Haw episode.
