Stream Epiphany Many young girls in my culture idolize or obsess over Korea, especially its idols and Korean people in general. My Cousin’s Bestfriend and her brother are Korean. Every year my people have a big cultural festival called the Hmong New Year. The brother attended as a employee for a Kpop merchandise booth and was completely bothered by many girls who asked for pictures or gifts. Unfortunately, I was one of those girls, but it’s been almost 2 years since then and I’ve grown to learn not to obsess over things like that. He now has a girlfriend and I check on him every once awhile since I follow him on social media. On the other hand, there are girls obviously upset from this, so I just had to let out the idea not to fantasize or obsess over Korean culture. In the end they’re people. I’m not sure if this made any sense, but if you’ve made it this far thanks for reading
@@chonjiuo2027 There's nothing wrong with enjoying Korean culture, the music, and such... But yeah, obsessing about it is going overboard. You start to lose touch with reality. It's absolutely fine to be a big fan of Kpop and Korean entertainment. It's just when non-Koreans try to act Korean and believe that they are Korean or obsess about us is when things start to get creepy.

@Lakshmi Kimmu Honestly, this couldn't be further from the truth. I'm Korean and I've NEVER been criticized by my family members or anyone else for not "looking good" when taking out the trash. I've seen PLENTY of Koreans go out with messy hair and pajamas while taking out the trash and no one bats an eye.
@Lakshmi Kimmu No, it's really not. It's different for every INDIVIDUAL. Not different areas and locations. There are those who want to look good in every ocassion, but most Koreans aren't that way. I'm not sure why people think Koreans are these single minded people who don't and can't think for their own or something.
I feel like most korean men seen in the interviews look tidy and take care of their image, even a person who is not particularly attractive can achieve handsomeness in this way (personally I think that's the most important part on someone's image).
If they were dressed on casually clothes they wont look that attractive, i think people think they hare handsome because of their clothes, that's really sad.
@@popcornale6393 I know some koreans and they usually have few clothes, but these fit them well. It's a cultural thing, nothing sad about it, they just like to look neat and jobs are highly competitive.
Exactly! So many people could be doing themselves favors by instead of complaining about how ugly they look, they could keep themselves well-groomed and find clothing that suits their body types and their personalities. Some people really don't understand how much a good hairstyle and good-fitting clothes can do for you.

But the fact that she was so well-kempt honestly made her look a lot more attractive, so having clean and well fitted clothes makes a difference.
I don't agree, in every country there is beauty standards, they are just different, it's just that the face is more important in Korea and for the body u just have to be skinny, but in other countries, thick bodies are a must, I don't have it and a lot of people keep telling me to gain a little more weight, so it's the same thing I guess.

Pretty much. I've seen young women drool over the waiters at Korean BBQ places. I've always been attracted to Asian men even though I really was never around any. I studied abroad in Korea and I felt I was living in Modelville. Everyone looked like a model (at the university). I felt a bit ashamed, and needed to step my game up, but I didnt want to change myself for a society I am not a part of and I would only be there for a few months, so.. When I got away from the univeristy, many people still looked like Models, but I saw more regular looking people. I felt a bit comfortable. I barely saw any fat people either. As a fat person, I was like.. "Not only do I stick out, because I'm a foreigner, but I'm a Black, woman, who is fat!!!?? Auuggghhh!" XD Whenever I saw another fat Korean (i only saw 4) I would give them the "Black-power " raised fist, in solidarity with them. Granted, I got weird looks, but I could understand their struggles. lol
A bit late as well, but I'm Korean and I mostly grew up in the states, so after having to move back home, I had the same feeling of being stood out as you! I felt the urge and necessity to step my fashion game up, and it really is a double edged sword since you feel like you have to be on par with everyone else otherwise you do feel that you are the odd one out. But making the effort to put more focus on what you wear to try and keep up with everyone does in the end give you some charm points and boost your looks, but at the same time of course, drains your money LOL. I think it heavily depends on how self-assured and secured you are, but me personally, I had a difficult time trying to ignore the high beauty standards. One of the reasons why I wanted to watch this video is to hopefully find comments like yours that I could relate to, so I'm glad I did!
Just so you know, there's totally nothing wrong with being black. Society is messed up, don't conform to the beauty standards that Society has set for the world, don't be afraid to be yourself.

No tattoos, slim, fit, well dressed, very polite and well spoken. All attributes lacking in young males here in Australia. Also the females appear to be the same. Koreans are very lucky.
Koreans care a lot about their looks, which is good but it might give you a wrong perceptions, looks wont tell you about their personalities, thinking and behaviour, be careful for falling only for their style
It would be great if there is a Japanese and Chinese version of this interview too! These countries have so much going on between them for years (if not centuries!). It'd be interesting to note how their perceptions of ideal might differ or be similar to each other. Also, it could be good materials for those majoring in East Asian studies!
The comments are filled with foreigners who haven’t educated themselves properly on why some koreans find certain skin tones ideal/ less ideal. Personal opinion: skin tone doesn’t matter. But you WILL find people who DO care regardless of where their from lol.
Things have value because we give it that... and we all love beauty, whether it's in the green of grass or the dying of it, or a boy in make up or girl with pale skin. I see beauty in dark skin that glows like moonlight. Short men who walk like they own the world, old men with grace, women with power... my point!! We have to really see beauty as fluid. Shout out to the guy in the knit hat who lacked confidence.... you found it!! to me confidence is one of the sexiest traits in the universe and ugliness becomes beautiful.
Why should we always try to look like someone else? We are all beautiful the way we are. Tall, short, fat, skinny, pale, dark. We are all beautiful. When will society tell us to be ourselves? People should not worry about their appearance so much and least about what others think. Guys, and girls, just be yourself. You are great just the way you are.
But what if you want to become the best version of yourself and do a change in your appearance not for society, for you. It’s not that a bit conformist way of thinking?
Wow, I didn't know average korean guys used makeup as well! I always thought it was just for kpop idols. That's really cool that it's being accepted and taken as normal nowadays, I think everyone should have a right to go with or without makeup, however they wish :) Thanks Asian Boss for educating us!
If the men interviewed were the standard, then I'd say Korean men deserve their reputation as being handsome. In general I don't care much about appearance because personality is what makes me fall for someone. ;)
remember that people somewhat confident with their looks will be the ones who agree to this interview, I've been to korea and it's literally the same as every other country in terms of a variety in attractive or not attractive.
Seriously, I can spend all day watching your videos! I should not do it but I can perfectly spend around 2 hours. Love your contents! I find quite interesting the evolution of the question that have been done. The ideal of a "one full head taller than me" it's really common in the girls who have been reading manga or watching anime.
Well, they are koreans, and that level of dark skin doesn't even exist among them... It's equivalent to trying to find a person as white as a Scandinavian in the black community. There is no logic behind this

How "Superficial" this world is, to be so hung up on the height or skintone of a person. Instead of just accepting your own natural self. Is being taller or lighter make you a better person? Or is it the heart and essence of a person that is most beautiful?
Liking good looking people is in our dna and people don't always think about appearance just because they're shallow. Good looks meant someone is more likely to be healthy (example: a good jawline can mean that a person doesn't have their jaws and teeth in an incorrect and uncomfortable position, having a healthier jaw that functions properly) thus making them more desired. Also, pale skin meant you didn't have jobs poorer people had having to work out in the sun and was a possible sign of wealth. Who doesn't want a partner that has money to allow both you an them to live a comfortable life? It would be ridiculous to marry a homeless person over a person with cash because you need money to stay alive and buy necessities.
@@naritruwireve1381 You need to re-think some of your comments. Some things you said is Not always true. Looking good do not always mean you are physically health. Being poor do not always mean one can not better himself. Some of the richest people life started out dirt poor. RE- THINK
@@peggyroyster3759 You also need to re-think about my comment and what I wrote since you seem to have misunderstood all of what I wrote. I know looking good doesn't 100% of the time mean being physically healthy, so I never stated that it could, and that it was only a possibility, writing "can mean..." instead of "does mean...". And when I compared a homeless person to someone with wealth, I didn't bring it up to talk about who can better themselves more, saying homeless people are unable to do so. My main point was that people naturally want a partner who is financially stable _in the present moment_ and is able to take care of both themself and you. Not one single bit was about me saying homeless people can't do this or can't be that.

I do think that appearance is something so strict and important in Korea... to an extreme extent. Somewhere along the lines of "I'll fall for their personality and looks don't matter", makes me doubt such a statement. Humans have been instinctive to get attracted to what they *perceive* as attractive. There's really no way to escape lookism, **but one can avoid it**. I still believe someone has a subconscious bias to a "type", hence why people have preferences. Some people would rather date fit people, than unfit people. Some people prefer cleaner people than the not-so-clean people. Some people prefer people with a sense of fashion, vs a person without one. I do my best to avoid such a bias, but there's no way that I'd lie and say that I have no subconscious preference at all. I'll list all the questions below to which some people would probably answer "no" to. If you answer "no", it's completely normal, you have a subconscious preference. - Would you date an obese person? - Would you date a person who clutters and doesn't care much for hygiene? - Would you date a person who grows body hair other than hair on their head and brows? - Would you date a person without a sense of fashion? - Would you date a person who is facially and or bodily unattractive to you? Again, if you answered "no" to any of these, it's totally normal, but if you feel bad about it, you can always avoid your biases and try for people you just feel like you can connect with.
it must be hard to be a Korean, where every judgment is visually driven, where people should have a good looking appearance, small jaw, double eyed-lid, skinny, tall, pale, sharp nose, etc. Where personality, attitude, skills, and behavior are secondary things after all these "good-looking" kinds of stuff.
Other countries would think that Korean are so in to their appearance like you. But if you look deep down in there history, Koreans have perfectionism in there gense. Not just the looks, they try so hard in all fields. In a way, it’s sad for individuals, but from the national point of view it quite beneficial. There’s alway bad n good.... Like a double edged sword.

what I feel is different and more attractive about Korean guys not just compaired to westerners but also other Asian nations is their voice. I don`t know if it`s the language, but I feel that on average more Korean guys have a deep sexy voice. Like the guy in the cap. a deep, calm, flowing voice is very attractive :)
Lol. At my school, you can look at a group of international students and pick out the Korean guy because most of them have those circular glasses and curly, wavy hair (Goblin style). :P :P
It's really true that there is a significant amount of attention directed towards your appearance. When I was an exchange student in Korea, I feel the pressure to dress well and look good even though I'm just heading downstairs to buy some dinner or groceries. Nevertheless, it has helped me become more aware of my appearance and hence I would make an effort to dress up whenever I'm heading out. When I first returned home from Korea, it was kind of difficult to acclimatize to the way my local citizens are dressed. Thinking back, I kind of miss living in Korea because you really do get compliments along the streets and it's sort of like an acknowledgement for your effort. Just my 2 cents.
They must have interviewed the most handsome random men they could find. I found them ALL very handsome. Build: NOT skinny! Def prefer healthy weight, physically fit is definitely a bonus. Height: When it comes to a Korean man, preferably 183cm minimum, as I am myself a tall woman at just under 178cm. This way I could manage heels without being too much of a tower. That said, honestly, I have no issues with a man being the same height or even 'not as tall' as myself... at all. However, I feel that many Korean men might feel uncomfortable or intimidated which is completely understandable. Facial feature preference: A nice smile that reaches his eyes. He's out there somewhere! 💗

I think Korean men on the whole look great and overall they do have style, I really like how they have there hair, which is generally neat, with a stylish cut. I totally agree with the girls who stated that the men looked better and cleaner without facial hair. Lets face it folks they do look good, many western men are less concerned about their looks and to be honest would do well to take a leaf out of the Korean fashion sense/style and by the way I am a striaght white western guy who always likes to look good myself and presentable and thats how I have always been.

not every korean guy will look like a kpop idol, y’all needa get that through your head

@@popcornale6393 It's clearly not only just their clothes. As someone living in Korea, I saw a lot of foreign girls into Korean guys no matter how they look like :D It seems like the Asian fever is no longer only about guys who like Asian girls. It works both ways now
Pretty much. I've seen young women drool over the waiters at Korean BBQ places. I've always been attracted to Asian men even though I really was never around any. That would have been over 25 years ago. I grew up in a mostly white midwestern town. I think the only Asian guy I knew in high school was my friend's brother. They were from India.
I hate it. I just happen to like manly asian men, not just KOREAN since I was young, I don't know why, my first love and first kiss was with a asian guy, I did not like him just because he's asian but rather because he's cute and funny guy. it was wayyyy before people go crazy over asian guys. I am now in my early 30s, and I don't fancy just anyone. If there is a guy look like Lee Sang Yoon, I will fell in love because he is my type but I don't throw myself at him and I have to remind myself that he is way out of my league, not because he is korean but because he is handsome, it is same with every country, there are handsome and ugly people in every country, so S.Korea are no exception.
Auuggghhh!" XD
Whenever I saw another fat Korean (i only saw 4) I would give them the "Black-power " raised fist, in solidarity with them.
Korean men are handsome. Just as other's from different countries. It's all a matter of what you find attractive.
I'm more surprised on how willing these interviewees are in expressing their honest opinions.
Because koreans arent politically correct at all, unlike western society were you have to say certain things or you will get cancelled thats why

RE- THINK

@@naritruwireve1381 Comprehension have never been my problem if so I would have never graduated from a University.
9:02 i thought he's going to sing his answer
Lmao
Lol
Underrated lmao
GAGAHA
I always had eyes for Korean and Japanese men like they have something unique everyone is different in their own ways💜
2:51 ohhhh god he’s handsome . and he’s smile , i’m DEAD 💓
5:00 the way he speaks is so satisfying lol idk why
The interviewer has such a soothing voice!
it must be hard to be a Korean, where every judgment is visually driven, where people should have a good looking appearance, small jaw, double eyed-lid, skinny, tall, pale, sharp nose, etc.

@Leone Lelen Skills and behavior are some of the most important things in korean society
Wow the interviewer is so attractive herself 😮
2nd GUY:"No, I didn't know we were popular."
He definitely looks like my ideal Korean man. Lots of wavy hair, dimples, dressed well and very naturally handsome.
Beauty touches the soul by the actions of others..no matter what nationality..There is beauty and love everywhere. ENJOY LIFE AND LOVE!
Idk why I’m watching so many Korean videos. Quarantine is getting to me
Song Seung-heon is one of the most attractive men I've ever seen in my life!!
XX from Brazil
Black kdrama fan????
@@captainlevi7188 Yes. It was the first time I saw him
Exactly!!
Stay away from my dream man..🤪
YES I AGREE
what I feel is different and more attractive about Korean guys not just compaired to westerners but also other Asian nations is their voice.
I think Asia is well behind in mental and emotional confidence. Everyone interviewed was sooo beautiful!
For me i like to see: GONG YOO, JI HYUN WOO, JONG YONG HWA( CN BLUE) MEN with beautifull handsome eyes and smile,i love it🤩🤩💖💖💖
I can't finish watching this. It hurts my heart.
why lol, this is their ideal body type/look everyone has a type, if was interviewed in America or something I'm sure alot of people would say white with blonde or brunette hair
Why??
I think all the men they interviewed are attractive and good looking lol
Fair skin is cute and angelic
Tan skin is hot and badass
exactly
Conclusion: *ALL OF THEM ARE BEAUTIFUL IN THEIR OWN WAY*
Gong yoo is so beautiful...gosh💜💜
In the thumbnail on the right side, you can see the gentleman from squid game who plays the Ddakji game with the contestants
Actually some Korean idols are prettier than other normal girls they have a flawless skin as well. I don't know if I want that kind of guy. I want someone like Gong Yoo or Kwon sangWoo.
I always find it annoying in k drama when the female lead ask the Male lead why he likes her ? And he replies with cause you are pretty and the girl is actually impressed . Like ALL IS ABOUT VISUAL .
*salute* 06:24 I just want to thank that dude for his Army service. He has a classic Korean Men's hairstyle and has a masculine-classic mind/sense of fashion. Props OG!
Jan Petrov army service is mandatory for men in korea lol
That guy in the tan jacket and the curly hair. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Guy with the beanie. 🤩 Unique is not bad. A good mind is nice. A good heart is the best.
So basically it's like saying 'As I experienced with anime, all Japanese highschool girls have colored hair and big eyes....'
"because people think all Korean men are good-looking, they'll message us over social media"
Koreaboos, I swear
@ahmed ali delusional
Their definition of dark skin had me falling off my chair lol
After this video I feel that I can not live in South Korea. The pressure about their appearance is so much
Korea is one of the trendiest place in term of fashion, was surprise the answer were very tame and similar. Lack of diversity and collectivism remain incredibly ingrain in the average person.
Which can be a good thing. Contrary to every single person ever that tries to demonize a collective society calling it "sheepminded". There are pros to a collective society too.
South Korea is the size of a bean compared to the US or really any other country. Of course they would follow one trend.
In a very small country, and beside China, Japan, Russia, US, and even dangerous North-korea, Korea is hot spot place!
diversity is not ideal virtue on that case. Only Unity can overcome that push of the other strong country😅
You think diversity always right and good?
1:46 ''i want him to be big enough that i disappear''
tall overweight guys : ''allow us to introduce ourselves''
It literally got me..lmao
Sunscreen is skincare not make up girls. Especially for me who live in tropical country.
True. I regret not wearing sunscreen earlier. Now, I have lil freckles. Sunlight sure damaged out skin.
the guy with the skull cap is very handsome
I loved this clip! I have always wondered what the typical korean man looks like so this was very intriguing to me. Thank you
Im not really into Korean men but I'll give you the run down. Most are average. But today . I saw a super handsome Korean guy on the subway. He was tall and gorgeous. Looked like a model. So some guys there are ridiculously hot. But it's not the average
I personally found every guy interviewed was very handsome😻🌹
@Adarsh Anand lol jealous much?😂
@Adarsh Anand you're judging them cause they don't have beards? I didn't know you needed a beard to be a "man" as for make up most just cover blemishes or wear non, you're just judging by appearance and that's pretty sad, I don't know, still sounds jealous to me
But whatever, have a good day too
@Adarsh Anand Lol I wouldn't try to pin your worlds to the rest of the world haha that's your opinion of judgement not anyone else's right now why didnt you just make your own comment, why comment under mine? You trying to start something or what?

BBHMM casually playing in the background
Ok but all of them are handsome, and I know there aren’t a lot that look like drama actors or singers cause I’ve seen a lot of Koreans but there’s just something about Korean guys that attracts me. Maybe it’s the eyes, and face
Structure? Also the model at 9:38 seemed like a really nice person
Omg goblin! I love it! One of my personal favourites
That last man who was so concerned about his looks that he didn't approach his crush for six years is very cute.
