Marty Music thankyou for helping us with guitar lessons!!!!!!:)
Marty Music please tell me what kind of guitar you have. I have an acoustic guitar but it doesn’t sound like yours. Your strums are so much more distinct in sound. How much did yours cost?
Isn't it easier to finger the A with 2,1,3 as far as fingering the Chord?
Marty Music Pink Floyd are Jew Haters Marty. 🤦♂️🤦♂️😢😢
Marty Music I remember you from Blues Guitar Unleashed (Griff Hamlin website). Now I know where to find your stuff. Minor chords don’t always equal a sad sound. There are some songs in a minor key that are rather happy.
i’m fine
my fingers are fine
we are all fine
*guitar is on fire* still fine! XD
Oh yeah
I'm totally not crying out in pain
I remember when I was 11 years old, I used to watch Marty's videos and try to learn from it, and now I'm 19 years old and I am a certified lead guitarist of a band. Thanks to you Marty! ❤
That’s awesome! Literally 11 rn learning guitar 🎸 My dad was in a band so I wanna learn too! Any tips?
Thank you so much for posting that encouragement
@@Herlannah_ishere Practice, practice, practice and get comfortable playing in front of people, and did I say practice? Where there is a will, there is a way to achieve what you want.
@@dm2156 😊 Thank you so much! I practice every other day - and on the days I’m not practicing, I’m practicing my violin!

Just bought my first guitar yesterday, never played so much as a chord in my 30 years of living. It's nice to have three chords under my belt after 2 days and be able to play something recognizable as music rather than endlessly, awkwardly noodling and doodling before giving up and returning to my mastery of that venerated instrument....the air guitar.
acrophobe I too am a master at air guitar
I, too, have professional skills as an *air guitarist,* both electric and acoustic.

are you me?
Im 30 years old and buying my first guitar today. Nice to see im not the only one
The facial expressions during the major and minor comparison really helped.
I will remember them whenever i play either of them
this guy makes learning guitar seem so fun and easy wtf
Ikr I had no clue until now
It is tho well mainly fun it is kinda hard to shove all of your fingers onto one fret lol
I have played guitar for 2 years. My teachers were bad, I never progressed, and I was unmotivated to play. Now I'm restarting with Marty!
How it goes with you now
My teacher was horrible too

For anyone just picking up a guitar. This is the only teacher that you need. Marty explains things in such a lovely way and I can't praise him highly enough. Thanks Marty.
I've just bought one, yesterday. But it needs tuning. Ordered a digital one of eBay, so when it comes I'm rearing to go
@@carlstevens4981 you can use a tuner online on your phone
@@sunshine20yearsago51 wow thanks, I've ordered one of eBay just waiting for it to come. I'll give it a go with my phone.
I'm in my 60's now and finally have time to myself after all the kids moved out. I am doing the 5 min each day and as others have said ends up being 30-45. If it hurts I just go get a coffee and go right back to it. I'm not giving up and hope I can keep up with my nephew some day soon. Marty is all the teaching you need! Thank you for your fantastic videos.
I'm 58 and pretty much the same story, other than my daughter moved back home with the grandkids. But it's nice to be a part of raising them even if it cuts into practice time. Decided i'm going to buy myself a nice semi hollow when i get better as an incentive.
How did I end up here at 4 a.m....I don't even own a guitar, but anyway now I really want to learn
im here 3:30 am, borrow a guitar, I did :0
That happened to me a couple of months ago here I am again but this time with a guitar

It's 3:52am now 😁😁

Woo hoo still doing my 5 minutes a day like you said and that always turns into 30-45 mins. My fingers get sore but I'm doing so well with your lessons. Thank you Marty!
Hi Toni! So how have you been progressing? Are you still working at it?
@@rollmops3113 haha! Guess not!

Man. 3 fingers on a fret is a real challenge for me. I physically cram them together with my other hand and still have trouble not muting the B string
me too man, me too.
Hey mate, I recognize that this is about a year old comment, so I apologize for bugging you. Any tips you can give on bypassing this problem? I'm having hell with it.
@@nightraver4051 maybe try barring the three string with one finger since all 3 notes in the chord are on the same fret. Place your middle finger across the 2nd fret on the D, G and B strings and then play the note. Should sound exactly the same.
@@nightraver4051 i usually have my finger lap each other so there like almost on top of each other but not all the way if that helps
@@nightraver4051 I had this issue, not sure if you ever found a solution, but I use my middle finger to hold the G and B strings. There was no way I was getting three of my fat fingers on that second fret. Still fine tuning the sound, but I can hear the A chord in there. Hope youre still playing.

Yeah same here I took up my dads old guitar and I’m learning from this and a diy credit card guitar pick
I've paid for many lessons over many years. Marty is by far the best guitar teacher I've ever come across.
I tried to teach myself to play guitar years ago with a book. I wasn't too bad, but it was missing that one on one interaction and it just didn't sound quite right. Now after watching a few of your videos, I see how much easier it is to learn when you have an actual person explaining the details. Thanks for making what I thought was a challenging experience into a fun, easy and pleasant one.
I really appreciate the comment! I'm so glad to have you supporting me with my own project "MartyMusic" Sondra!
Being able to play cords has given me a tremendous amount of confidence, I got my mom's guitar after she past and it's been in a closet for 7 years. Thank you for helping me get it in tune and be able to hear it again.
cool
I recently started taking anti-depressants after suffering with terrible depression for literally the majority of my adult (and teenage) life. I suddenly regained that spark of creativity that I used to have when I was younger, and began writing songs. I played flute when I was younger, but I got the urge to learn guitar to go along with my new-found song writing hobby, and now that everything is shut down and I’m temporarily out of work, I decided that it’s time to learn! I really appreciate these videos! My fingers are sore but my mind is clear!
Hopefully you're doing okay. Good luck on the guitar
Best wishes to you
Ive owned a guitar for less than a day and im so happy with myself for picking this up so quickly, makes me want to learn loads more!
day two... my fingers hurt so bad and the tips are completely numb. but i refuse to give up for my dad who passed away and played every instrument known to man. i bet hed be proud if he saw me now. thanks marty music - your vids is helping me so much since i otherwise wouldnt have a teacher of any kind.
Progress?
Were they comfortably numb?
Amazing. The only online guitar lessons I can actually learn from. Very elaborate and at an adequate pace for beginners. Appreciate it man keep em comin !
this is the best thing in the entire world. highly recommend
This is my 4th time in my 30 years picking the guitar back up, and this is the time I’ve moved the farthest. I no longer take my guitar to get tuned, and I can actually play 3 chords so far. Thank you for this video series
Oww, my fingies hurt. But I’m trying to get them calloused faster so I won’t stop
I've been playing guitar for about 8 years now. I know hundreds (literally) of songs beginning to end with solos and all, BUT I could not even name you one single guitar chord. Lol Beginning a journey of Marty's vids learning what these chords I have been playing all these years are actually called.
I am 73 yr old and just started Marty’s course. I have tried several and his connects with me! Thank you Marty!
I am a technician and have no rythm. Not even sure if I spelled that word correctly. I have gone throught the first 3 beginner videos. My lack of beat is obvious, but I feel like I am learning things. Although, I want to fast forward to see where I will be in 6 months. I feel like I might actually be getting it. My wife who used to play an instrument (air instrument), says I am getting better. This is like a 110lb man trying to win a weight lifting competition. I am well out of my league. lol. I appreciate Marty's encouragement and loving his free styles. I hope to get there. Thank you Marty for doing these videos.
I have never had a good experience with the guitar my dad made me practice for me it was torture because the guy he made me watch was terrible, I was on my own time and watched this is I got better my dad was shocked when I was so good, so now I’m happy and I’m a pretty good player. THANKS MARTY!!
I honestly find you so helpful watching your videos because I'm teaching myself. I struggle with the strummin' but you really break it all down and help by giving different ways of doing it. Thank you.
I to find the strumming hard
I love this guy, just his approach to teaching is great and I just have so much sitting down and practicing because after I always feel like I have made some progress. Just five minutes everyday is what he said but I can't help but sit down for longer

I’ve tried playing the guitar a long time ago when I was younger and I got more frustrated and I thought there was either something wrong with me or the guitar I had. But now I am older and I understand things more. You’re the teacher I have always wanted and I believe watching your lesson videos has made everything more fun and better for me. Even though my fingers hurt in the very end 😁👍
Thanks for the support! Glad my teaching works for you!

Picked guitar back up abt a month ago, haven't played for about 4 years. These videos really help bringing stuff back to me. Definitely the best lessons on the internet by far.
So beautiful that you teach slowly it's an important thing for begginers to not be demotivated thanks a lot 💜
This is for me the hardest chord since u gotta squeeze all 3 fingers into the 2nd fret smh
I cant get this one right it always viberates I tried everything

One thing to keep in mind is that the farther back a finger is, the harder you have to press to prevent the buzzing. So unless you somehow got your fingers in a perfect vertical line (probably not possible), you'll always have to press harder with the top finger.
pratice , practice, practiceI. I have ulnar nerve damage in my fretting hand. My Dr. said

It makes playing so much fun now
wait so you are telling me that 4,254,000 people gave up on learning guitar since episode 1?
I saw you in the comments of episode one! How is your learning going? I have one goal as of right now which is to learn Post Malone's 'Go Flex' on guitar before I see him in concert on May 4, 2019. I've only been going for 1 day but I'm enjoying it so far!
yep
wait when does he say that?! But that is true. Many people quit guitar because of the stress and frustration they get when watching RUclips videos about how to play the guitar.
Yes
We are in elite company if we made it to here
After years (I'm 41) of telling my family, "we are not a musical people" I have decided to try and learn guitar. Cheers for these videos, I've already gotten much further than I thought I would be able to.
I'm a 32 year old nurse. Can't sing, can't play any instruments but I've always wanted to learn to pay guitar. Once about 16 years ago I tried to play Swing Life Away using your video and got so discouraged because I was young and dumb and thought I should be getting it right away.
Fast forward to today. I've been learning with that same Swing Life Away video I watched when I was 16 and using these absolutely wonderful lessons! You are helping me to be able to play a song, with no history of playing music, as a surprise for my wife for our 10 year anniversary in September. Thank you so much Marty ❤❤️
15 YEARS I can finally play 2 chords. my Mind is f**** blown . I had bad ADD as a child and couldn't learn anything but this dude is a great teacher.
It's been a dream of mine for my Dad and I to play guitar together. I'm really hoping that by the time I get married next year I can master to play "Beautiful Crazy" by Luke Combs and sing it to my bride to be. Thanks for the lesson, Ill be tuning in to the next one. You rock!
Arren Schroyer: I love that song! Congrats on the marriage and good luck. 😊
Did you do it and if so how did it go?? :)
"Sausage fingers" LOL I feel ya Marty
Man I gotta tell you I have paid for stupid apps and I really have always wanted to play guitar and teach my daughter as she is 3 and loves her guitar . as a father you wanna be a role model and teach them the right way to do things . I have struggle learning it though I just started and know nothing . Just off the first lesson you did I practiced everyday for 20mins wether after work or what not I just make time even if it’s for 5 minutes. I got lesson 1 down good I know that’s probably easy for most but it’s very intimidating and it feels good to accomplish that . I have learned a lot from you in 15mins then I have paying 100$ a month for apps and everything else so I just wanna say thank you . Your really helping people out here or least you helped me and I can’t tell you enough how your time is appreciated showing us thank you .
I’m 28, I could never realy afford lessons and I never understood when trying to learn from a book, I would pick up a guitar so many times through life and give up a few days in. But not with the power of RUclips I feel like I can REALY pick it up without getting horribly confused. And your videos specifically make it easy to follow along and understand
My fingers have indents 😂

I got one more in me today 😅

...and then my fingers become numb from the pressure.
Omggg lol mines hurt from just number 1... when I tried number 2 I couldn’t even press on the strings ouchhhh is all I can say...
Isaac Smith dame 😂
I started guitar lessons at 61 from an individual for about 12 lessons but did not get excited about playing and gave up until your first video and now I can't put it down even after dislocating my ring finger on the cord hand. 3 days after a bad dislocation from a football I was practicing and loving it thank you so much for inspiring me to get back into it👍
I just love the way you teach. Brief, concise and to the point. Less preachy , more teachy! :P
Bought a guitar 25 years ago and gave up because I was not learning anything from the books. I found my old guitar and found your video, needless to say after 2 nights of watching and playing I learned more than in those 20 years! I also just picked up a new Yamaha FS800 to make sure I stick to it. :)
Just started playing. You are the best teacher I've seen on here.
I had a guitar since I was 5 and I always kept trying to learn how to play using the book but I couldn’t. I gave up on it and forgot I ever had one I found it and tried using the book again but I struggled again. Then I found your videos and they’ve really helped me out.
You have a great way of motivating beginners and reminding them to take it easy on themselves, and give it time. Most things seem really hard at first until you practice and give it all time to sink in.
I love your energy and your style of teaching. I am 41 and just picked this up and loving being able to play some chords which motivate me to go on. I tried other RUclipsrs but yours is the best one out there 🇵🇰
I come back again these videos and I recall memories! You helped me a lot with your vids in the past and from a complete newbie now I play in A band!Thank you so muchhh!!!
Just barely got my grandpa’s guitar and wanted to learn how to play it. I’m on my second day and so far it’s going great! Thank you for making these :)
Pumped you’re new to the journey! Thanks for the support and keep practicing
Really enjoy your lessons, thanks Marty..best wishes.
I've gotta tell ya that I tried your lessons last year or maybe longer and I couldn't get my fingers to hit any chords. I did lessons 1&2 and I'm already strum. I even got lesson 3 down without even listening to the tutorial. I'm super excited because I only practiced about an hour each time.... You're the guy to go to if you wanna learn. Thanks Marty!!!!
Thank you again Marty McFly.
My fingers and hands are so thick and big that they always touch other strings and it is so demotivating but I will keep practicing the first lesson again and again!!
You got this dude!
im having the same issue
my A Major Chord isn't coming out correct :/
got the same issue im A mechanic so ive got fat fingers and they're pretty short as well but it'll get better over time
Practice makes perfect, I finally got the right sound for two strums, adjusted my seating, went to strum again and just heard that annoying “thunk” sound, this is gonna be a fun day
I bought my daughter a guitar for her school lessons. Thought I'd have a quick go and looked up "first guitar lesson" on the Tubes. Clicked on this dude's video.
Now I'M learning how to play.
38 years and I finally made a guitar do something other than screech and whine like a dying animal.
Cheers!
These lessons are so perfect because you really take your time and explain the notes and give me time to practice it and switch around from note to note. Actual teachers want to move so fast because there’s only like an hour and it’s really expensive but I need to take time

Picking up guitar for the first time in a while. Glad these lessons exist, because this is probably the furthest I've gotten in any of my lessons I've taken, even the ones with "professionals" that I took for a year, I was still more behind than this. Thank you so much Marty!
Dear Mr. Marty Music, you have helped me grow so much in music and I have nobody else to thank but you
Me - "It hurts". My fingers - "Hold our beer".
Love the channel. I'm starting from scratch with you. Any tips on avoiding the top sting while strumming?
It is recommended that you use a pick, but to avoid that e string barehanded I strum the other 5 strings with my thumb.
Jim K you probably learned it already but I mute the E string (and A string with D chords) with my left tumb over the neck
I'm 71 years old and have wanted to learn the guitar for ages. 40 years ago I played bass (Fender Precision) in a country rock band, which would have been the perfect time for free guitar lessons! But I never did it. Now, we are coming up on the rainy season in the Pacific Northwest and there's that Covid thing going on as well, so I thought I'm gonna do it. I bought a Yahama FG800, recommended by a guitar collector friend, and I've learned 3 chords from your videos. It's hard to make my fingers do what they're supposed to do, but I'm gonna keep at it. Love your videos!
Yo dude, really like your teaching methods. You rock the coolest hats, wear some of the same style. You’ve made it easy for a 62 yr old to learn music. Hope you’re still rocking it.
today is my second day learning guitar, thanks marty.
My favourite bit about this series is that he’s a pink Floyd fan🙏
My dad was self taught and had his band in the early 60's called the "Coachmen". Love how Marty teaches. Just starting and have to say its not easy but Marty does make it very simple to learn once you get past that hump. Keep it up man!!!
Thank you Marty Music! I've been quarantined by my company for the next 3 weeks (I'm not sick someone else is) so I stopped by a pawn shop and found an acoustic guitar for $23 bucks and came home tuned it and it sounds great! Its a good beginner guitar (it's a Samich Greg Bennett design) because I've maybe held a guitar for 10 minutes in my previous 43 years. Thank you for making this easy to follow and for speaking in a language I hear. Can't wait to see where this goes!
Where do we buy the freeze spray ? Marty if that's even your real name

I’m already feeling the seedlings of callus. I’ve really enjoyed the first two chords so much I was stuck on them for a while. Getting the feel for strumming without a pick too. Enjoying it so much thus far thanks for the free lessons!!
I've always wanted to learn to play on a guitar. I made the sudden decision to buy 1 a few days ago, when i got it i took my time and spended almost 1hour to tune my guitar. Seeing this made it all worth it, i never taught i'd play something that sounds like music in just 2 days. Im so freakin' hyped now! 🤣

Me and my brother, both teens, are loving your vids! So helpful and easy to understand!
Thanks my wife says my piddling around with guitar starting to sound like music 🤪 u got me subbed
I literally cannot fit my fingers in that fret without my index being at completely the wrong side. I think as I build more rough skin they will become more pointier or something I hope...
ap2pat i have the same problem as you
try over lapping them not just side by side. have the upper finger slightly on top of the finger below. i work construction and have hard fat fingers from years of hard labor and i have difficulty doing it too - but it is possible with a bit of work...
I noticed that too, but I also noticed that Marty himself seems to not mind that in the video, where his index finger is pretty much right at the top of the fret.
It can also help to put your index finger in the middle, between your other 2 fingers, instead of them all in a row...
@@ifensler HOMIE!!!!
This is amazing! I'm 57 and received my dads guitar when he passed away a few months ago. I've decided to learn how to play. I've listened to several other instructors online, but you make it so easy and fun. I've only been playing for 3 days for an hour a day and I'm already keeping up. I need work with the fancy strumming, but I know that will come in time.
Thank you so much!

Thanks Marty, All my friends at school (1950's - 60's) were into guitars. So, what the hell am I doing this for now, well we've got COVID lockdown in Australia. ALDI had guitars real cheap. I bought one and procrastinated. Now I have a tuning app. on my 'phone so the instrument is close to tuned. As Lennon said "I've got blisters on my fingers". Another story for you there was a guy at school who was always on his guitar. One day I was walking past his house, he was out sitting on his garden wall working on his guitar. I said "Guitar, guitar is all you ever do. Where's that going to get you?" The guy is Andy Summers of 'The Police'.
Dude! How did you know that's where I came from! lol
I love your lessons so much
The bright, tinny stuff by the bridge is so fun! Thanks!
