Digi Gamer Seriously, I think this show doesn't give enough time to theories in order to prove them right or not. Anyone can find a conspiracy theory on the internet and say whether or not they believe it. Hell, RUclips commentators do it all the time.
There's an episode showing Gadget as a baby having all his gadgets with him already.

That would make sense, except a "face altering explosion" never happened in the tv series so we couldn't prove that true or not. But VinalG4ce points out that the show showed him having gadgets as a baby, so who knows!
Robots don't age, maybe gadget died years ago and the niece built gadget off pictures she's seen. That's what gadget's personality is so messed up, cause she never knew him

Claw was never revealed because it was meant to leave it to your imagination. Just because six years later they "finally" created a toy with some face doesn't hold up well.

I have a better theory: Gadget is the one solving the cases and what we actually see is just Penny's imagination.
Penny's parents were probably police officers too and they got killed on the job. The only family she has left is her uncle who is actually as good as everyone in the show believes. However, whenever his chief calls him on the phone to give him his next mission Penny starts to worry that she would lose him too and starts imagining herself helping him survive his mission. The messages blowing up in the chief's face are just a result of her hatred towards him for putting her uncle in danger.
When imagining herself helping her uncle she gets along just fine with everyone she meets (apart from the M.A.D. agents and Claw), but when not on a mission we almost never see her talk to anyone or have any friends other than her uncle and her dog. The reason for that is that she no longer trusts people because of the trauma she suffered when her parents were killed.
After discovering what Claw is up to, Penny is the one calling the chief for back-up however when the chief arrives he congratulates Gadget, not her. He doesn't even ask why Penny is the one calling him. The reason for that is because she never did any of those things, she just imagined them.
In the episode "A Star is Lost" Penny saves her favorite singer from M.A.D. and at his concert he dedicates a song to her. At first we could say that everything was real since the singer actually admits Penny helped him, but what really happened was that Gadget actually helped the singer and when he asked him how he can repay him, Gadget told him that his niece is a big fan of his and asked him to dedicate a song to her at his next concert.

I dunno... I think that the Dr Claw action figure does kinda look like Gadget. I mean, you have to take into account that he was hit by an explosion. This could cause his hair to turn white. And since we never really see DG without his hat on, it's entirely possible that they have the same hairstyle. Also, you have to take into account that Penny is 10... She is still a child, and stands to reason that she made a romanticized version of her beloved uncle.
I'm not saying that this is true. What I am saying is that I don't think that the figure disproves anything.

Also it ignores the fact that there are plenty of toys and merchandise created for cartoons in the 70s-90s that were extremely inaccurate from models, to colors and even names. All it takes is for a quick toy deal to go down without the creative teams involvement(which is still common). Mix that with deadlines and any kind of miscommunication on either side and you end up with a crappy toy designed for the sheer purpose of making money.

Seriously, that's all the basis you have for the theory being untrue? A couple of non-canon video-games and an action figure with debatable canon does not prove the theory false. That's like saying that the theory is wrong because we see Dr. Claw's face in the movie. If Dr. Claw's face appeared in one of the cartoons in some way, then I could buy it. And that old guy being Dr. Claw just seems so lame. We all expected some battle-scarred badass James Bond-styled super-villain, not a short old dude.
I do respect this woman's theories, she does debunk a lot of rather dumb ones. However, this one has some basis and I don't think an action figure and a couple of obscure non-canon games disproves it. I've always been against using non-canon sources to debunk a theory or explain something, so I definitely think this episode needs a remake or a follow-up.

I always imagined Dr. Claw to be a prototype of Inspector Gadget that was too intelligent and became a dictator criminal mastermind while Gadget was a failed clone who's programmed to do good deeds but isn't fully developed, functionally.
that is actually a good theory. it makes sense because they both have hairstyles that are pretty similar.
and even if gadget was a human before, they still could have messed up the programming.

I believed this theory as a kid.
I first got suspicious when I was watching Dr. Claw drive his car, the Mad Mobile. When it transformed to fly away, it made the same sound effects as the Gadget Mobile. Did the same person build both vehicles?
I remember that I used to watch this series as a kid back in the past. I just have wondered about the face of Dr Claw. However the action figures has some errors in comparison to the real one because it has only one white glove instead of two that he has on the show. According to my opinion this was made rapidly without take into account the show. Regarding this theory it's very fascinating to notice the gaps left by the series. Despite the James Bond style I think that Dr Claw is the father of Penny, that was caught in one explosion during an undercover mission in a warehouse. Feeling betrayed by his firmer colleague Quinby he tries desperately to contact with his daughter but Quinby won't let him and built the Inspector Gadget to stop him.
Not to mention the theory forgets that Gadget is a cyborg, not a complete robot. Also, in the episode "The Amazon," Gadget has to save Professor Von Slickstein, who is described as the Father of Modern Bionics, and the man who gave the Inspector all of his gadgets.
i like to think that gadget is mostly robot, and after he fell down the stairs in his human form, a lot of his body was replaced, so he is nearly almost a complete robot.

Like many others are saying, it's not impossible that the face was both mutilated by the explosion and then aged in the meantime, leaving him with white hair and an unrecognizable face. I'd say the theory deserves a three, at least.

its a cool theory buuuut this can be disproved. There's been a running gag in the show that Gadget has to go to the bathroom really bad after drinking so much fluid and this indicates that he's not really a robot but just a cyborg. Not to mention, he could eat and drink food like a regular person and feel headaches and stomachaches like a real person. Could a robot really imitate these behaviors? I don't think so. Not to mention, he could easily be hacked and reprogrammed completely if Dr. Claw even managed to capture him (and he did do that a couple times!)

I found many of these posts (including the variety of theories interesting - some of which I kicked around, myself). No one had mentioned a particular fact that from the series. There was an inventor (who, of course, was kidnapped and freed) that was not only responsible for giving Inspector Gadget his gadgets (not Penny), but provided Penny with her computer book and watch. Of course this doesn't mean that Penny didn't help...

Well, if the explosion was large enough to possibly kill Inspector Gadget, wouldn't he require reconstructive surgery on his face? It's possible that this is why he looks different in the action figure and video game
Awe this is my favorite theory, I think it deserved way more than 1. There's also the fact that Penny is never hurt when Claw does something seemingly sinister involving her. Definitely not a proven theory but I thought it was at least a 4.
If you had watched every episode then you'll know that at one point inspector gadget actually walks in on dr claw in one point at the episode questioning him about something and like always you never see his face, but they clearly are conversing
Never heard this one before. Inspector Gadget was one of my favorite cartoons from that era. I could've sworn they did show Dr. Claw's chair turn around one time and it actually was nothing more than just the arm coming out of the chair. That was a long time ago though, so who knows where I got that from, haha

I think that was a decoy, like he already ditched outa there and left a fake arm to trick penny or gadget, I don't remember for sure though.
I think that was in the intro sequence / opening credits of the cartoon, as well as being written into an episode. Want a conspiracy theory for inspector gadget? I swear that I have a memory of Dr. Claw turning around and revealing his face during the final episode of the 80s cartoon. The same face as on the toy and in the game. I spent years trying to find it again, never did.

Good point, but the reason we used the video game and the toy in our evidence was because those were both directly derived from the animated TV series. While the live action feature film is inspired by the tv series, it is not directly canon with it - which is why we didn't use it.

What if Penny was Dr. Claw? She always solved the case allowed Gadget to get all the credit and fame, her only partner is a talking dog who always helped Gadget stay alive. The dog always followed Gadget. Anytime Gadget thought he caught Claw it was only a robotic arm. Penny has shown to be a genius and could have easily built a Claw Foot and Claw's machines, used money from heists to make more machines just to have her uncle become a hero. A hero who couldn't possibly stop Penny when she decided to take over the world. In all honesty, I feel Penny had all of the ability, intellect, patience and the maturity to pull it off. Or maybe I'm just crazy that I see this as a possibility

but I suppose it is possible that tye explosion damaged his face which might be why you dont see it often and but he does look a bit to old to be Penny's uncle

Well, I've done some research, and it turns out I would probs give this theory 4 claws! It's VERY possible that this is very well true! Whenever Penny is captured or runs into Dr. Claw, he never does any physical harm to her, the Inspector and the action figure do have the same hair styles, and lastly, his voice and appearance could've been altered by the explosion. I REST MY CASE!!
No, it can’t be in the reboot of the show he had a nephew named Talon claw that means Dr. Claus is a completely different person not the inspector gadget. And we’ve all seen a picture of Dr. Claus‘s face when we looked it up he’s an old guy with an eyepatch and thatClaw turned out to be just a gauntlet not a robot hand. Whatever happened to the original inspector gadget he is not Dr. claw

I actually had the Dr. Claw toy as a kid and felt cheated when I saw an episode of the show that clearly shows both his hands are metal claws, that meaning the toy, which only has one metal hand, is somehow "fake" and not related to the cartoon's original character design

Wait Dr. Claw looks like an older version of inspector gadget, he could have been old originally then Inspector Gadget's niece or someone who is a relative could have figured out how to make him a younger age than the original.
They should do like an after show for this that they film a few weeks after the initial conspiracy episode so they can see fans comments and then implement them into the theories, because some of the stuff ppl r sayin in these comments are pretty dang legit and i whole heartedly agree with the initial theory.
Klaw is the original uncle that was in an explosion, and because of that, it blew his hair up like that toy and made his face disfigured and voice raspy. His hair probably turned white from all the stress he's constantly going through, or age because he might just look like that coz he's old now :\

Funny thing on the toy/face of Claw. So the older videogame revealed Claw's face but that was the game developers design and from what I've heard, the toy company wasn't connected with the creators of the show either. Ultimately, this is just a face people went with just because it was there to use but many fans, like myself, do not accept it and consider it non-canon. Until the cartoon says otherwise, that thing is not Claw!

This reminds me of a character idea I have for Mutants and Masterminds... It pretty much involved the basic premise of this theory plus brain uploading on the "robot dublicate"s part (although technically he'd be a artificial human/cyborg) and a personality changing brain injury on the villians part.

well to be fair he's not going to look like Inspector Gadget anymore. Remember he was in a horrible accident that could have just figured his face greatly. I don't know if the action figure in video game Thing really disproves anyting. keep in mind the robot that Penny built won't age at all so it's not going to look like doctor claw because doctor claw would be an age version of the original Inspector Gadget.

The face of the toy could be Gadgets after a terrible accident destroyed his face and plastic reconstructive surgery, yeah that's a lousy reason to say this is "disproved" although this is the first time I've heard this theory I'm in love with it, fits very well and answers allot of my questions about the show! I would like to add that I love your show Emily, keep it up!
I always liked the theory I heard in college, namely that Dr. Claw is actually Chief Quimby; all Gadget's missions are an attempt by Quimby to kill Gadget - look at how much pain Gadget causes Quimby, ad it is easy to see why.
I also like the theory that Dr. Claw is actually a puppet operated by Mad Cat, though there is at least one episode where Claw pounds the desk in frustration, causing Mad Cat to freak the hell out; seems like an odd thing for a puppet master to do with his puppet, unless Mad Cat has dissociative identity disorder (I think that's the one where you attribute your own actions to someone else), but now we're talking about a cat with a robot puppet AND human mental problems, and I'm gonna need a tinfoil hat before I go down that particular rabbit hole.
I’m a screenwriter and a filmmaker and I’m thinking for a future film project bringing this theory to life but I will title the film Dr. Claw. The plot will be Penny creates this robot duplicate of his uncle for when he’s sick or has other things going on but goes through an explosion and gets brain damage and the last thing he knows the robot is taking his place. This makes him angry especially when the robot is raising his niece. He soon becomes obsessed with revenge with this robot to the point he becomes corrupt but despite that he still loves his niece. I think this theory would make a good movie. I would also ad to the movie he has penny kidnaped but mostly to reach out to her and try to win her over by saying “i have all the power and money in the world. I will give you anything you want” but penny only wants her uncle to be the man she use to be. The police say her real uncle is a lost cause but penny doesn’t believe that and is still willing to reach out to him. I don’t know I just thought it would be a good idea for a movie.

what if Dr. Claws face was distorted after the accident, and he grew older, explaining the white hair, and penny created the cyborg to look like him before he "died"
I would say that since they have shown the face in a game and figure, you could say the Explosion that Gadget "died in" warped damaged his face, and they reconstructed it, all the more reason why "Claw" hates the robot Gaget, because he looks like how he used to before the explosion.

I was born in 1988. So my brother grew up gadget, and knew of this theory back on the playgrounds in school. even. I watch reruns growing up, and other taped shows from my brother's childhood Or I was holding on to the coat tails, of the shows going off the air..But when I was old enough, to understand my brother told this theory to me..And 27 years later I still love it I will not say it's true, It was part of my childhood and something me and my beloved share, am to nostalgic to say this is false!
I like this theory and IMO there isn't enough to disprove it yes there's an action figure but look how mangled the face is if you were caught in giant enough explosion which most people thought you dead, I'd expect your face among other things to be warped too.
I don't think I understand this theory. So, some inspector gets blown up in an explosion, and all of his friends and family believe he's dead. So some little girl decides to create a robotic clone of the guy which everyone decides it'll be cool to pretend he's the real guy? Even going as far as to allow him to join the police force even though he lacks any qualifications whatsoever? Meanwhile, the actual inspector survives the accident, and instead of reaching out to his friends and family, decides instead to start up an entire criminal organization with the sole purpose of getting revenge on some dumb machine? This theory makes no sense, even if you ignore the doll and video game.
I have never watched this show before, But, if the guy was a robot made by the girl, it would have never grown old or anything right? While the real one had started growing white hair.
I personally think the game and action figure shouldn't count cause they should have never shown Dr. Claw's face at all.
Am I the only one who thinks Claw's face is kinda dumb? I mean, if you're gonna hide him in the shadows, don't make him look as cliche as possible. Firelord Ozai was more intimidating, and he was pretty normal looking.

You could've also included that the toy DOES have streaks of black that could mean that his hair is graying out and the fact he has the same skin colour as Gadget. Or the fact his eyes do look like Gadget's. So all the evidence you showed could be that Claw IS Gadget.
um, what disproves it? The toys and the video games aren't considered canon. Even if they were, how do we know that his face didn't get disfigured in the accident. Also, Dr Klaw had ample opportunity to have Penny kidnapped or harmed, but he never does, also there are times where he even directs that she is not to be harmed. This would lead me to believe that he still loves his niece.

It's actually very possible. You do say he was in an explosion, and so that would explain the disfigurement. Also the white hair is most likely stress on his body during his harsh recovery process most likely due to the fact that he didn't go to an actual hospital because his family believed him to be dead, so he was left to fend for himself most likely in some back alley hospital if that.

Maybe the reason that Penny actually follows Gadget around all the time, rescues it in many cases, and winds up solving most of the crimes is that she knows that it really is just a robot, and knows that it's considerably flawed.

My guess is that Dr. Claw is the robot inspector gadget but he soon invented a time machine with his robot tech. Maybe he went back to eliminate himself to stop himself from an accident that he caused.
I always thought Penny was a robot, too...made to take care of her uncle, who was using untested technology to merge robotics with a human body... Penny does seem to be way too intelligent for her age and acts much older, and is always treated relatively well by Claw's goons. Wouldn't want to harm something as valuable as an android that advanced, would you? Or Claw could be Penny's real dad... or both! Who knows...lot of ideas for FanFiction there!

Well it would explain why Dr. Claw doesn’t order penny killed or hurt in any way. He just orders her to be locked up to keep her out of the way without killing her because he still loves her despite criminal path.

I still don't get the point of talking about a theory then almost immediately disprove it? We don't even need to way any of your episodes because the outcome is always the same.
But maybe after the explosion he was rushed to the hospital needing a full plastic surgery makeover. The white hair on Dr. Claw contrasts the black on Inspector Gadget, this would make sense because we have seen more than once that after explosion some characters hair turns white or vice versa. And that weird expression on Dr. Claw is also because of the power of that explosion, which left his face in a permanent stasis. His garbage disposal voice is because his lungs are burnt after the blast. I give the theory 4.5 claws.
Well wait what if Dr. Claw IS him, but an an older age? (Assuming a robot copy wouldn't age, but a disfigured human would) It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be Penny. Think about it. What if one of her parents built the robot to make up for the loss of a brother? Or, to make the character even older, what if Penny's GRANDMOM built the gadget, to make up for a lost son or spouse? Either way, it could make sense that such intelligent adults raised a smart girl like Penny.
It could be him with a beard a white hair...
Did you forget that he was in an explosion, i'm sure his face wouldn't look the same. He did kind of look like an older version of inspector gadget as well

I say that dr claw is inspecter gadget and he could've been disfigured. I mean after all he would've been in an explosion so it be really hard to look the same. Which also explains why his face wasn't shown in a kids cartoon.

Well the Netflix Inspector Gadget does contradict some of the evidence in this Theory but I do agree that dr. Claw is not the original Inspector Gadget
Here's why I think; the reason he has that look is of his age or it had something to do with the explosion?? Like I you think so!
