I did the whole trip because I couldn't stand those stereotype clickbaity RUclips videos about Air India - which are all just not serious and not detailed and without any interest for real background knowledge and research on a topic. So here's a really honest report that's not there for clickbait but showing how it is and where it definitely will go.

Excellent review Chris......very interesting to see the beginning of the 'new' Air India, and so good to see a genuine attempt to be the airline that they should be. India is such a fascinating and culturally rich nation, it deserves a quality flag carrier to fly the flag so to speak. Well, apart from a better seat and better wines they seem to be ticking plenty of boxes ! Will be interesting, as you say, to observe the development.

@@TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition @johnhorton5022 Nice to see your inspiring reviews, Well thinks are really well after TATA group has taking the full stake, things are really falling in favor of The TATA group, In the next 2-4 Years there will be big change, Lot of huge number of new air crafts from Boeing and Airbus companies are on par with the Timeline and Vistara will be merged. The Chairman of TATA group stated the next 5 years, AIR-INDIA will be on par with Emirates and Lufthansa, and if TATA makes a statement, they will live up to their words.

Nice review. I am expecting a lot more improvements over the next 5 to 10 years. Air India is a very big ship to turn around and if there's anyone who can do this then it is the TATA group. However, we need to be a bit more patient as they go about implementing the changes as these things take time considering the scale of everything that's involved. The TATAs are known to be highly professional and are probably the most respected business empire in India. They are also known for their integrity and for following proper rules, regulations and ethical business practices (i.e. the exact opposite of a dodgy type of operation). The TATA group of companies had a total valuation of 311 billion USD in Fiscal Year 2022 which is more than the GDP of many small EU countries so they do have deep pockets to spend money where it's needed.

I feel so happy to see such a huge positive transformation in the service. I remember travelling first class frequently back home on their 777s, with no food menu card, yes, on first. And the aged cabin crew who felt totally uninterested in their jobs coming and listing the options like at a local dhaba. Huge kudos to Tata! I have full faith that Air India is in the best hands possible to make it legendary!

Great review Chris, your style of presentation is great, especially your voice is pleasing enough to watch longer videos. However, I would be curious to see how the experience in economy is like. That is where I feel the bulk of the improvements need to be, because even basics like the entertainment screen are often not working and are still being ignored / deprioritized, but that is especially annoying in long haul flights.

Traveling from Sydney to Delhi on 3rd Oct 2023 and back on 17th Oct 2023, my experience were a lot different. Both the times entertainment unit was not working, While coming back 80% of units were not working and I was told by fellow passengers and staff that it is the case for last 4 yrs minimum. Going to Delhi, I found that in Gally ( area of plain in back) floor had patches on them . That tells me the quality of maintenance Air India is doing. This is the first time I played 'Russian Roulette' and that too not by my choice. I Delhi the plane boarding was moved from T3 to T2 (or was it T1 do not know) the Air India bus took us there. On way I found Some staff Cannibalising another plane for the parts (It had me worried) . in this sector Air India is usually most expensive way to fly. When I wrote a complaint all I got was that We (TATA) have just taken over. Not even a decent apology I for one will think ten times before I will fly Air India again

This was very interesting Chris. Their new First and business classes look good and i would like to try them-----Maybe sometime next year. I'm planning a trip to Cape Town in February for my birthday and am waiting to see what BA will offer in their sale that they usually have in late august.Surprisingly AF and KL are currently charging almost as much for Business class as BA are charging for First-----Very strange!. Air India customer service is very hard to reach on the phone in India. I couldn't check in online, and it kept telling me my ticket was waitlisted. Whatever option you choose on a call, the recording tells you to get whatever you need on the website and ends the call. I finally found an IVR option to speak to a person after having my call terminated 5 times. The person said that web check-in was unavailable on some flights, and when that happened, the website threw up this random Waitlisted message.

Even with that extremely exclusive ticket, I waited 115 minutes (I really waited that long and didn't give up 😂) until somebody took the call there! Telephone services seem to be really horrible with most airlines: one exception: Emirates (and mostly also Qatar) are really fast by the phone!

I hate the Boeing 787 business layout. This same layout is used on the Air Tahiti aircraft and when I go to Bora Bora , I have to endure it. If you have no partner with you, you'll either sit next to a stranger or face self consciousness when people see you sitting alone.
I prefer the A350 which has staggered seating in business class in a 1+ 2+ 1 format. I like the window seat and a spacer between myself and the aisle.

The experience flying Air India has deteriorated so much since the TATA takeover that I am also not flying Air India again at least not until for the next 5 years at least.....Tata being a private owner has dug AI to the ground. They are not spending a single dollar to fix the terribly broken flights between the US and India even after 2 years of takeover. They are shamelessly waiting for the new plans to arrive until late 2024. In the meantime they are exposing travelers to broken seats, no in flight entertainment, and horrible food service year after year. This is the worst strategy ever. All these people that are giving benefit to Tata saying it will take time are all domestic flyers. Flying 16 hours in a broken and dilapidated plane since the last 2+ years and continuing to do so until late 2024 is simply pathetic and unacceptable. At least under the Indian Government they were spending some money on fixing broken plans and doing some repairs.. Under Tata they are so cheap that seats that are completely broken are falling apart are also not being fixed. Shame on Air India and Tata sons.

    • @TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition
      @TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition  8 месяцев назад

To be honest, I cannot find this very believable - but I leave it there as every comment is a comment and mostly coming from ones own experience. Mine was very good, with the things that will need improvement. TATA just took over - so there's not much to say about interior outfitting as there was no time for that yet. You cannot buy 50 planes like 50 pairs of jeans. It takes time. But didn't you see the new hirings at all departments? I think that shows already that a lot will change. I can only speak from my own experience, as I always did in my 150+ reports.
But it's actually proven that everywhere in the world government-controlled airlines are among the worst when it comes to customer experience, staff attitude, interior outfitting etc

Anyways although, U were confined in yr seat only, I liked yr vlog.

      Thank you for your feedback.
You forget that Sam is the biggest and most influential RUclipsr of all. Airlines do what he tells them to do. On the other hand, you won't get a real picture as everybody will behave as perfect as possible. I alleys do my report as understated and discreet as possible. I pride myself to not invade in the staff's and fellow passengers' privacy - something that most RUclipsrs simply disrespect.
My review is about business class - so that's the reason why there's no economy. Also, I did go to economy, but it was fully occupied and I couldn't take pictures without showing at least 10 faces on each. Doing Economy-Class reports and not simply killing privacy of other people is almost impossible.... Yet, I try to cover that too as often as I can.
But going into a cockpit is again impossible if you're not Sam Chui, who I really like, and we also meet in Dubai since time ago, - but again, if Sam Chui comes, an airline do anything to please him and give him a great time so he says good things. If I come, nobody cares different from any a other regular passenger, and I can Film and show what every other passenger experienced on the respective flight, too....
I hope you'll enjoy my other flight reports on TravelSingFly!.
      Cheers from Germany!

Hi! You know I have always loved your in-depth and relaxing reviews..... but... with all due respect: are You sure this is an unbiased review focusing on the real product and not on the expectations of the future "wings of change"??? 😅
I mean, in these very latest days there have been a quite a few reviews all about "Air India" and the new course....😅 all pretty the same, singing the praise of this Company more based on the expectations than the reality....
Example: the airport, the lounge and the cabin itself all are showing the (usual) signs of caos, a bit outdated and worn out features.... the cabin and the business class' seats themselves are really worn, surely You tell all these things in the video but You still insist a lot into paraising everything and minimize the defects...... and the ONLY actual "plus" about that seat was that there was nobody in the seat close by!
With just the other person in the seats near yours, the overall flight experience will have really plummetted... for very obvious reasons... then the wine list was, as stated in the video, "nothing particular" and all the food they have brought to You were from different menus... are we sure that a "normal" passenger would have had the same pleasant experience??? The toilet was "normal", devoid of ANY amenities.... and why the fuss: "This is better than Qatar's...those are better than Qatar's.....etc...."??? 😅 An outdated and worn out cabin with no privacy, no "dine on demand", limited wine and food selection, prehistoric IFE... all these things are more than enough to negate any advantage given by pajamas and amenity kit...
Please forgive me, but this is the only time that I have felt these inconsistencies in a review of yours..... sorry.... it seems really overall "too grandiose" for the actual material experience..😅😅

Hi! First of all thank you for your compliments for my work in general. I take all comments very seriously, so also this one. I can't really follow, though.
Now to your stated points - and I can only tell my experience, and it was my first time to India:
      1. The airport wasn't chaotic at all. I think one can see my surprise about that.
      2. The lounge was in a good state, quiet and with good beverages and friendly service. Good could have been more interesting.
      3. The cabin: I think I said more than 3 times that is really dated. Not hiding that at all. At the same time, I say that I like this kind of seat because it's comfortable as long as you have no neighbor. You'll also find me saying that in my videos about Turkish B777 or the old Qatar B777 (that everybody nags about and I don't)
      4. The food is the food. I don't know what you mean by different menus. It's the regular menu. I'm pointing out that the main course was fantastic (it really was), while the dinner was actually not outstanding.
      5. The pajamas are better than at Qatar. I could have compared it to another airline, but first of all Qatar calls themselves first in business, so that's a reference (and that's only regarding that one point, not the rest of course), and that would be dishonest as I simply haven't flown another airline that has pajamas in business class, also since there's almost no airline left in the world that offers them in business class. It's also a hidden compliment for Qatar because that means that everything else at Qatar is simply unmatched - and also the pajamas are very good.
      6. The Amenity Kit is in fact one of the best of all airlines currently. TUMI is a luxury brand, and the contents are nice too. Lufthansa (another premium airline in their opinion) has a 99-cent shopping bag instead.
One important thing, however, I think you don't know: I make my reviews not as a source of income or to please an airline. Nobody treats me differently on a plane, except for that staff, after sometimes being a bit annoyed seeing me film, are usually nice to me (not always though) because I'm a very friendly and interested customer, who never feels entitled to anything but getting from A to B, and I always respect everybody's privacy, of both staff and fellow travelers, and understand when staff is overwhelmed once in a time (I just had that on another flight last week). The airline however wouldn't know that I'll film on board. I never tell them, so I don't risk that somebody in management will forbid it officially. I asked once Lufthansa if there's a chance to board the plane 5 minutes before everybody else so I could film the empty plane, and they forbade it - so I had to cancel and find another flight with another airline, etc etc... It's not so easy sometimes....
I aim at making the best possible aviation reports within my capabilities on my channel, well researched, with more in mind than showing myself with a fancy drink in a premium seat (which you know, otherwise you wouldn't follow my content). It's basically a financial disaster because the videos are not sponsored in any way, except that I'll present maybe a useful luggage or other travel gimmick sometime in the future, if I like it. I also don't get paid for business travel from my company as I'm self-employed - but as an opera singer, not as a RUclipsr, so no deductable flights there either. This is all coming from a great passion for aviation and I simply spend my money for this channel while others have a car or go out on the weekends instead....
I hope this long response clears up a few things. I appreciate your comment and hope you'll have a great experience with my channel on the future.
      Chris

@@TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition Hi, many thanks for Your kind answer! Believe me: I did not want to be harsh or suggest You have been somewhat "bribed" by the airline!😅
I thought that maybe the Company, after ALL that disaster in past years, wanted to "captivate" in some ways seasoned travellers/reviewers... The fact is that I have always and only seen very bad reviews of Air India (and in general about Indian airports/lounges and so on) and many friends of mine also told me the same impressions (cahotic, not always so clean, somewhat outdated or worn out facilities and equipment...etc...)
Given your more-than-enthusiastic review it seemed to me that "something" was odd... but now I see that most probably thart "marvel" was caused by the great deal of effort put in such a small time to improve the situation... Really: no bad meaning and no harsh criticism from my part!😁

That's totally okay. I expected nothing, to be honest, not good, not horrible. That's always the best start to enter into a new report. But I'm not sure now if you've really liked closely: you could see it's a very clean airport - or at least that Terminal 3 is, where I flew from. You could see that the lounge is relaxed and in great shape. Nothing worn.
And believe me, airlines don't reach out for channels with under 100'000 subscribers. That's very sure. No matter how well I do a report, I'll never get asked to fly for free in exchange for a report until I reach a significant label. And by then is have enough financial background to use it even more for my audience, not for getting paid for making a nice review. If spend the money for something like surprising one viewer per month with a free flight and talking about the flight experience al fresco on the plane... Would be great if that could happen sometime in the future - but that's out if my hands unfortunately and had not so much to do with quality of content more with being clickbaity (like those reports where everything is actually great, and I still get a picture of a "disappointed" RUclipsr and a horrible title, because otherwise nobody would click)
