One of the best ever TV themes, still kicks ass in 2024
No doubt, the opening for shows like Miami Vice, Magnum PI, Airwolf etc. were outstanding. I even miss the Jeffersons. It's good to be a kid again.
@@RommelsAsparagus As I have said elsewhere, theme tunes were like an event in themselves in those days.
Yours or mine?
second only to the theme of SWAT
Damn Right
Jan Hammer's sound was such a huge part of defining the 80's
This theme, WAS WHAT THE 80S WAS IN JUST 2 MINUTES!
Him and Georgio Moroder
@@elitecombatfitnesscentral6170 And Harold Faltermeyer. How ironic and interesting that all three hail from the very small area in Central Europe perhaps like 300km apart (Prague, Munich and Tirol).
And Alan Silvestri too.
Did not know he was in one of the episodes
This guy made the soundtrack for the 80s
This theme gives me the chills each time I listen to it. Pure genius. Jan is a legend.
Me too! I thought i was alone feeling that ! Lol
And entirely done on a synthesizer.
@Teal VR Hahahahahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's the linear non linear syncopation between the timbale pattern and the bass drum pattern that I love if that makes any sense.
@@mikestanley9176guitar part too?
Jan Hammer was a pure genius, but he was EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE performing the song LIVE or appearing in music videos.
All in all, he did quite well in the video. As you said, he was a brilliant composer, but hardly an actor.
I was at the time Miami Vice was starting on TV in 1984 12 years old. Best Tv show of the 80's. Greetings from Belgium.
I LOVE this video! I also like Jan playing the role of the bad guy too.
I think he did in a episode too.
He’s here…. Lol
@@mr_demeanor6008 ah really? Do you know the title?
the most powerful track of 80s .. jan hammer .. thank you
You're welcome and thank you for your support!!!
great song that really made the series that pretty much defined a decade!!
Apparently he had the idea for a piece similar to this theme before he knew what Miami Vice even was. Which makes the dude a total badass.
Legendary theme song to a legendary TV show.
One of the greatest era defining themes of all time! A Masterpiece!!
I'm back in the 80's and life is good!
Very, VERY good, pal…!
80's and 90's the golden age of TV series
Back when men could run really really really fast and far far far in loafers without socks. Never any blisters. That was the day, man. That was the day. That, and layered synth tracks.
And cocaine - lots of cocaine.
no, i think you're just getting old 🤷
lmfao
Haha I love the last part, layered synth, I didn't know what it was actually called, but it sure sounds amazing!
And shooting at helicopters with a pistol.
I’ve been watching Miami Vice for 40 years and never knew what Jan Hammer looked like until now.
Keyboards and synths are just awesome. A great theme.
Absolutely iconic. The distinctive sound of Jan Hammer defined so many movies and TV shows of the 80s - back when TV was amazing! I've always loved this theme and the Miami Vice album "Escape from Television" is also great if you're a fan of Mr Hammer!
The best TV show on TV ever. 😎👍
People in Miami need to bring this back!!! A DJ out there should should make a longer remix and tear shit up at the clubs with this masterpiece. Focus on the first part of it. Good Lord, this brings back memories, good memories and people would line up to hear this. Lol
When you heard this song, you knew you were in for an hour's worth of excitement, glamour, fashion and hot music. The best show on TV deserved the best opening song and this is it. WOW!!
Knight rider, Airwolf and magnum p.i. good as well. Also Axel F.
It’s not a song. Songs have lyrics. This doesn’t. It’s a tune.

Back in the mid 1980's I took my bosses 88' BMW E-30 M3 on a joy ride, and this was in the CD player. It rocked then, and it rocks now! Had that car cranked up to 155 MPH with this song playing. I will never forget that. Felt like king of the world
This soundtrack was so powerful that it made you time travel back into the mid ‘80s while driving a late ‘80s car.
@@ibelieveicansoar 🤣
I was today years old when I learned Jan Hammer had a video for his Miami Vice Theme. How the hell being the Miami Vice/Hammer fan that I was growing up never knew this existed???
VH-1 played the video many times back in the 80s .
Notice how Jan Hammer is in the video like he played an actual character on Miami Vice (well he did once... but not a criminal...) I love that.
The sounds of my teens years! Thank you.
Kids. This music and clothing personifies the entire mid- to late-1980s. What a great time I had back then as a teen.
I miss those days. Jan gave my teenage years have a soundtrack.
You see….. modern syntwave music melts at 65 degrees, pure uncut 80’s synth melts at 130 degrees……..this video made it to 186 degrees!
Awesome keyboard player and mixing
A icon and a masterpiece
Absolutely epic video!
The first show that was broadcasted with stereo sound (where available).
Suits so white they seemed to be pink.
A 45 minute music video a week.
I never cared much for the writing and acting, Edward James Olmos aside, but the aestethics and music are characteristic for the 80's yet inimitable.
I listen to the complete Miami Vice collection quite a lot on the move.
Sadly not many palm trees in Holland.
Good song.
Good tv series.
Great song with alot of very happy memories! I love the part towards the end of the song that reminds me of someone tapping on an older style television 📺 screen!
Friday nights started when this came on
Great Show, Great Music, Great Storytelling. I loved every episode back then.
40 years later and this still slaps.
Greatest fighter to ever live. Smooth percise, calculated killer with his hands
This brings it back!
Still cool to blast when I'm on my boat😁👌🛥️
Great tune
Anyone else feel the need to give that a round of applause at the end?
Or was that just me?
Sweet! I love electronic music!
I love this song, l used to have a cassette of it back in the1980s.
Another awesome iconic musical theme up there with Magnum PI.
God bless for your
God I miss the 1980's
Masterpiece!.. .
Awesome
Loved this had the album!
This sound is unforgentable, Amazing!! Congratulations!!
Masterful.
I watched every episode , ❤
"Ten thousand street corners in Greater Miami, and 'Gumby' has to pick ours!"
Never seen Jan Hammer before, I watched this show weekly w my mother. Loved the intro. Loved the weekly stars that would play the bad guy role, like Glen Fry, Phil Collins, Ted Nugent and G Gordon Liddy and that 1000 yard stare from Edward James Olmos.
Never gets old--- Has ZZ Top , Sound in aswell.
Definitely off the chain ⛓️ Jan Hammer was certainly the best!
Awesome video ❤❤❤❤ hits the nostalgia spot ❤❤❤❤
I never cared for the show, because I was a kid and all I wanted was to watch cartoons but such an unforgettable theme always stood in my mind.
I love Miami Vice I still watch the reruns on tubi
genius music un saludo desde Perú
The most Florida / 1980s song and video ever!
thank you mr Hammer for this absolute masterpiece
Excelent video
Great song.
Who didn't drive Down-Town blaring this music up!
He's a huge part of making the hit console game, The Division 2 so cool now also!
I love how there's a gun on top of the Fairlight at the end of the video!
Hell yeah I drove a black on black trans Am and had a Coke problem it was freaking awesome I love the 80s
Gran Serie en su momento!!!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Y la banda sonora de Lujoooooo 💯💯💯🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Awesome, just found this !
That show all by itself made me wanna visit The city of Miami oh the Miami Sound Machine and Dan Marino of course,
Jan Hammer's sound to Miami Vice is so great, still today. Also the other albums beside, like Escape from television an Beyond the minds eye
Legend!
Vice theme and 'Long Time' - thanks for the tunes
Miami Vice was THEEEEE show!
Great TV show theme!
Exhilarating to This Date, a master!
Classic 80s Baby 😎🤙
If a documentary was made on the 80's this song would have to be the intro theme for the it.
This is so 80s it hurts.
The best❤
If I'm not mistaken.....This was a video, made by Mr. Hammer, that appeared on MTV to promote it's sale in an "album" version.....It, indeed, "worked"......😁
Are you kidding me only 1.3 Mil for a guy that helped change the world as we know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool ❤
I love that he has a 1911 pistol on the keyboard while he's playing (at the end of the video)
Genius
Whoa!
AWESOME1111
Happy Anniversary to Don Johnson today,73 years
Ahh, the Fairlight CMI. I dreamed of owning one of those back then, when I first saw Jan's video. They don't make 'em like that anymore...
i was born in 1986 and now i know that was about 15 years too late
80s overdoes. Brings back memories.
It’s 2023 and listening from Louisiana ❤
