Miami Vice defined the... No, it WAS the 80's!! I graduated high school in 82, I lived for every moment this show was on. Crockett and Tubbs, they started together and the finished together...As it should be. Hollywood today doesn't know how to make good TV shows anymore.
Miami Vice wasn't just a show.... It was the 80's. The vibe, the attitude, the excesses, the music, the clothes and..... on and on and on...... Every kid, teenager and some grown ups wanted to be Crockett or Tubbs. These were the best of times and the worst of times.

I remember growing up with TV and, most of the ending to show's provided the same feeling, of this ending. I feel like I watched It from the beginning, and I have just seen this part.
Learned in college, excellent writing is, when the reader remembers the last page of the writing. Ending TV and movies, the same way is excellent writing.
I always thought it would have been cool to produce an episode where Crockett and Tubs hooked up with Bo and Luke from the Dukes of Hazzard . Like they visit Hazzard County to help Bo and Luke with Boss Hogg and Roscoe. Then Bo and Luke return the favor and head down to Miami and use their Driving skills on the streets, to catch criminals.
I always hoped they’d come back for a feature length reunion. Never happened sadly. Never will now. Thankfully both actors are still alive and well and so is Edward James Olmos. Castillo was the coolest of the 3 of them imo. What a moustache!
Charles Hall ,,, He was once ,, he sure did not bring any of that Magic Touch back with his 2006 movie version , compaired with the original tv shows it miss- fired in every way , No Chemistry between the new Crocket & Tubbs(Farrell & Foxx) & a dull script/storyline all added up to a forgettable movie , any episode of the Tv Series was better written & far more enjoyable than that disaster ..
I think what makes this so sad for many of us is that it wasn't just the end of the series but the end of the '80s and I think our innocence as well. Technology was at the brink of taking over our lives and simple times were coming to an end.
I was in Junior high in early 80's. My parents and i used to watch this show every episode. Im 56 now and my parents are long gone. I miss them, aswell as the 80's. Golden times of my life growing up in the 80's.
For anyone not from this era, Miami Vice truly was an iconic television show. So much so, that a LOT of people 18+ would literally wait until they finished watching Miami Vice on Friday night before going out for a night on the town. Perhaps some of the shootout scenes are a little cheesy by today's standards, but the cinematography, story lines, acting, soundtrack, wardrobes, etc. have all stood the test of time; especially for an hourly weekly television show.
This statement is echoed frequently when and wherever people reminisce about the show. ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE TV. It really meant something then. Before binging and even cable was popular or VCRs we had mini-series like Roots, Shogun, Thorn Birds, Bourne Identity ... and apparently A LOT of acting vehicles for Richard Chamberlain. :D Amazing Times. Good Times.
@@TonyArjona Lol Bro now I know you're the real deal because you mentioned some things I haven't seen since the 80s! hahaha Richard Chamberlain ahahahaha that made me laugh
This show would not work anymore because the high values that the two characters tried to protect are blown up and gone. I am grateful to have grown up in that world.
I always tell the young people who were born in the 90’s and beyond. If you want to really understand and capture the essence and feel of what the 80’s was, watch Miami Vice. Even now when you watch it, there is just something so nostalgic about it. For us 80’s kids, it takes you right back to that time and all of the memories you had of that decade…the music, the clothes, the lingo. When this last episode aired, it was literally the 80’s decade saying goodbye. That line “We had a hell of a run..” smh. So fitting for them to put that in. There will NEVER be another show like Miami Vice and there will NEVER be another decade like the 80’s.
The Goonies and Neverending Story is what those born in the 80s remember. Miami Vice, not so much. Disney back then showing old 80's kids movies nonstop was a great time to grow up. We didn't have school shootings either. Everything felt more innocent.
Lived here in Miami for most of my life and I can tell you this series was the greatest to hit our city! I would love to be in a part 2 of Miami Vice! And yes, NOTHING compares to the 80's music!

I always thought that this ending was bittersweet for a variety of reasons. One of them was that these two men who had grown to respect and love each other were facing the end of their partnership. The other reason was far darker. After all Crockett and Tubbs had done, sacrificed and lost there was just as much drugs and crime in Miami as there was the day they met. Nothing had changed except they found out that not only were they fighting against the criminals but their own government. More bitter than sweet.
Gives a renewed perspective on "Out Where The Buses Don't Run" and how Hank Weldon's actions were understandable. What would this Crockett say different to Weldon?
"Hey Tubbs, you ever consider a career in southern law enforcement?" "Maybe.....maybe!" Loved those final two lines of the show - to me it suggests the two friends stayed together and relocated to....well, somewhere south of Miami. Great lines to end a great show!
This was one of the greatest cop shows (and shows in general) of all time. The true beauty is it can't be redone or rebooted. The music, fashion and style of the era is just so iconic it just wouldn't survive a remake (the movie was ok but ultimately paled in comparison). Not to mention that the chemistry between it's 2 leads might be the best in history. The only other comparison would be Lethal Weapon. Gosh I miss it...
I view it that way as well, cuz to me it makes no sense for them to separate after all they’ve been thru together. Like, these two dudes need eachother and that’s clearly showcased by Prodigal Son and Too Much, Too Late. Sonny is very sad when he thinks that Rico is actually going to leave him to stay with Valerie, and a bit sad when Rico tells him that he wants to marry Valerie. If Sonny couldn’t handle seeing his partner stay with somebody else, then I have no idea where he gets the strength to completely go different ways by the end of the series
I’m 77, I’ve watched a bazillion TV series, and Miami Vice was the best there’s ever been. As I look back on it, something just wasn’t right after it ended, and it still ain’t right today. The 70’s and 80’s were the best; I’d go back there in a heartbeat if I could.

I'm crying right now as i lost my mother last year and watching this made me very emotional cause she was my best partner just like they were in the series and not only we watched the show but we lived in miami back in those very days as well...you only realise what you had when its gone...
The End of an era, this was the final Vice that originally aired back in 1989 before the show was cancelled. The unaired lost 4 episodes didn't air until the following year. Great ending with a callback to the first episode ending as Crockett and Tubbs ride off The montage that follows is very classy too. 🔥🔥🔥👍
Long before series such as The X-Files and Babylon 5 would boast of their story "arcs", Miami Vice was one of the first series to have a strong arc of character development throughout its run, particularly with regards to Crockett. Even in long-running series of the time, most characters were basically static and unchanging, but Crockett begins Miami Vice as a youthful, energetic cop, still optimistic despite having seen the dark side of his job on numerous occasions, and believing with great idealism that he can make a difference. Eventually, however, the anger and pain caused by the betrayal and/or loss of nearly everyone he cares about lead to his dark side taking him over. Finally, both he and Tubbs realize that they cannot really create change within a corrupt system and choose to free themselves from it. The only other character with an equivalent arc is Switek (although it does not really start until the final season of the show).
Actually three of the lost episodes aired during the summer of 1989 after Freefall. The fourth one was the one that aired in 1990 on the USA network. In fact, NBC aired reruns of Vice up until July 26, 1989, two months after the final episode.
The final scene was great but made me so sad...the series ended...HOWEVER having the dvd collection makes it go on for as long as I want! Miami Vice Forever!

I was reminiscing over ‘80s music when this video popped up, and even my two oldest kids 19 year old son, and 15 year old daughter think everything from the ‘80s was better.
That shot of Crockett and Tubbs at 2:52, especially the look on Crockett's face. That's the look of someone completely and totally burnt out and disillusioned by his job. In that moment, you know he's done. Then later on, when Crockett stops on the dock and takes one last look towards the St. Vitus Dance as if he can't believe it's over. Very poignant. Nothing will ever compare to the 80's. I'm grateful that I got to live it and experience it fully. What I would give to just spend some time there again.

I totally agree wish to have a time machine 80’s the best decade period
Absolutely

There'll never be another Miami Vice. And the "In The Air Tonight" chase scene is still the best on TV ever.

Yes my friend great days
The very final seen when Crockett walks out of his boat and looks over everything the scenery, and then Tubbs pulls up. And Sonny says I’m gonna miss you man. Gets to me. I had a best friend like that and now I haven’t seen him in 20 years since he moved. We still talk on the phone but it’s not the same. We can’t hang out or nothing. It stinks. I grew up in the 80’s and they were the very last time to grow up and be young. God I miss the 80’s I guess I could say I miss my youth

@@stevo196two9 I'm only 39 and feel the same. I graduated HS in 2003 and it seems like every other kid was driving a Mustang, Camaro, modified Eclipse, Civic or integra with neon lights. Went to plenty of illegal street races at night, half drunk, running away from cops, later laughing about it with friends. No cell phones, stupid facebook and instagram. So glad I've caught the last good days. It's so sad to see young kids these days just sitting glued to their cell phones, not having any life!

Best show ever made. Friday nights at 9oclock. Never missed an episode. Great soundtrack. Awesome
What an incredible decade. It had a vibe all its own. Best show on TV. The music of that decade was unbelievably good. We will never see it again.

Miami Vice defined the... No, it WAS the 80's!! I graduated high school in 82, I lived for every moment this show was on. Crockett and Tubbs, they started together and the finished together...As it should be. The fashion trends that show started was something else on it's own...And the music used throughout the series was awesome, Tina Turner, Glenn Frey, Phil Collins...In The Air Tonight takes me back to Miami Vice every time I hear it...God, I miss that show, I didn't want it to end!! Hollywood today doesn't know how to make good TV shows anymore.
You forget SELF CONTROLL
it's to your credit that you realized the value of it AT the time, rather than long after it was over.
Same and I periodically rewatch the box set.
The greatest cop shows ever produced period....
Let's NOT forget Starsky and Hutch😅
Miami Vice wasn't just a show.... It was the 80's. The vibe, the attitude, the excesses, the music, the clothes and..... on and on and on...... Every kid, teenager and some grown ups wanted to be Crockett or Tubbs.
These were the best of times and the worst of times.

The perfect ending to one of the greatest shows ever.

A show and friendship that defined a generation. I miss it too...
👍
So do I.
I think what makes this so sad for many of us is that it wasn't just the end of the series but the end of the '80s and I think our innocence as well. Technology was at the brink of taking over our lives and simple times were coming to an end.
I wish the social media part never got invented
Yep
Very well said!
so right/ i was having so much fun .now everything stinks/ but i least i was there.
Technology is allowing me to watch this
I was in Junior high in early 80's.
Amazing Times. Good Times.
@@TonyArjona Lol Bro now I know you're the real deal because you mentioned some things I haven't seen since the 80s! hahaha Richard Chamberlain ahahahaha that made me laugh
It also brought much needed revenue back to Miami at the time. Everyone wanted to live there when this show came out.
This show would not work anymore because the high values that the two characters tried to protect are blown up and gone. I am grateful to have grown up in that world.
The last scene indicates that in a foreshadowing kind of way.
The music, the cars, the fashion. The rawness of it all. I am 50 now and would watch every episode with my brother and parents.
Yep well said
The Goonies and Neverending Story is what those born in the 80s remember. Miami Vice, not so much. Disney back then showing old 80's kids movies nonstop was a great time to grow up. We didn't have school shootings either. Everything felt more innocent.
I agree, I was growing up with Miami Vice, when the show ended I was 21... and yes after that my life was never the same, never.
Lived here in Miami for most of my life and I can tell you this series was the greatest to hit our city! I would love to be in a part 2 of Miami Vice! And yes, NOTHING compares to the 80's music!

I loved the 80s. The movies, music…I don’t think any other decade felt that perfect, again.
True, one part of the (federal) government working cross-purposes against another part thereof (see The Golden Triangle 1 & 2, among others).
Gives a renewed perspective on "Out Where The Buses Don't Run" and how Hank Weldon's actions were understandable. What would this Crockett say different to Weldon?
I think it’s apropos since time has shown the war on drugs was pointless and probably even counterproductive.
@@GHinWI Look at the Miami skyline and that's where the drug money went.

"Hey Tubbs, you ever consider a career in southern law enforcement?" "Maybe.....maybe!" Loved those final two lines of the show - to me it suggests the two friends stayed together and relocated to....well, somewhere south of Miami. Great lines to end a great show!
I think its more of a look back. That's what Crockett said to Tubbs way back in season 1.
Those were the last lines in the pilot episode in 1984. Those were great times
It didn't suggest it to me. It locked it for me. They both went together - south of Miami. Still cops someplace else.
I’m 77, I’ve watched a bazillion TV series, and Miami Vice was the best there’s ever been. As I look back on it, something just wasn’t right after it ended, and it still ain’t right today. The 70’s and 80’s were the best; I’d go back there in a heartbeat if I could.
Sure miss the old days of the 70’s and 80’s. I remember watching this show and I actually cried because I just knew it was the end of some great memories.
I'm crying right now as i lost my mother last year and watching this made me very emotional cause she was my best partner just like they were in the series and not only we watched the show but we lived in miami back in those very days as well...you only realise what you had when its gone...

My heart broke when this show ended. It was the end of an era!!
Moving MIAMI VICE montage with the song "Tell Me" by TERRY KATH.
Actually three of the lost episodes aired during the summer of 1989 after Freefall. The fourth one was the one that aired in 1990 on the USA network. In fact, NBC aired reruns of Vice up until July 26, 1989, two months after the final episode.
Thanks for this. I was wondering why this episode was not the last one on the DVD box set.
