it just sorta comes together in some perfect form that we only recognize after the fact.

I hate how everyone prefers to write off Miami Vice as a "fad-style over substance" type show because even when you take away all the cool music, clothes, cars, and scenery it's still has better writing and characters than most crimes shows ever made. For anyone not from this era, Miami Vice truly was an iconic television show. So much so, that a LOT of people 18+ would literally wait until they finished watching Miami Vice on Friday night before going out for a night on the town. Perhaps some of the shootout scenes are a little cheesy by today's standards, but the cinematography, story lines, acting, soundtrack, wardrobes, etc. have all stood the test of time; especially for an hourly weekly television show.

Even now when you watch it, there is just something so nostalgic about it. For us 80’s kids, it takes you right back to that time and all of the memories you had of that decade…the music, the clothes, the lingo.
When this last episode aired, it was literally the 80’s decade saying goodbye.

I always thought that this ending was bittersweet for a variety of reasons. One of them was that these two men who had grown to respect and love each other were facing the end of their partnership. The other reason was far darker. After all Crockett and Tubbs had done, sacrificed and lost there was just as much drugs and crime in Miami as there was the day they met. Nothing had changed except they found out that not only were they fighting against the criminals but their own government. More bitter than sweet.

Sonny is very sad when he thinks that Rico is actually going to leave him to stay with Valerie, and a bit sad when Rico tells him that he wants to marry Valerie. If Sonny couldn’t handle seeing his partner stay with somebody else, then I have no idea where he gets the strength to completely go different ways by the end of the series

Long before series such as The X-Files and Babylon 5 would boast of their story "arcs", Miami Vice was one of the first series to have a strong arc of character development throughout its run, particularly with regards to Crockett. Even in long-running series of the time, most characters were basically static and unchanging, but Crockett begins Miami Vice as a youthful, energetic cop, still optimistic despite having seen the dark side of his job on numerous occasions, and believing with great idealism that he can make a difference. Eventually, however, the anger and pain caused by the betrayal and/or loss of nearly everyone he cares about lead to his dark side taking him over. Finally, both he and Tubbs realize that they cannot really create change within a corrupt system and choose to free themselves from it. The only other character with an equivalent arc is Switek (although it does not really start until the final season of the show).

That had to be difficult for the actors, to know this was ending, they were so popular back then, we would watch it on Friday nights, and talk about it in school on Monday, it was our soap opera as kids

I lived and worked out of Miami late 60’s, early 70’s. A dynamic time…a coming of age for a naive kid for rural New England. Won and lost a wife, gained a new career…survived, in spite of myself. When this came out, watched every episode and rerun. Max nostalgia…have GREAT memories!

This is the best show I have ever seen. The atmosphere, the music, the characters, the plot... It's a great show. I am 18 and I watched this show now in 2022. I'm so glad I grew up with this show. Actors and creators have made a unique masterpiece. Now, with a smile on my face, I will watch this series many more times. No text is enough to convey these unforgettable feelings that I received while watching this show. Definitely I will watch this show with my kids in the future. 80s era was decidedly legendary. Thank you.

I got into it at age 13 in 2003 thanks to GTA Vice City, and my mom told me the opening titles of that game reminded her of Miami Vice. Watched the whole show from TV reruns recorded on VHS, and it's still one of my favorite shows ever.

This show was and still is one of the greatest ever. I grew up in South Florida while it was in original run. They even filmed a scene where my bus stop was on Card Sound RD heading down to Key Largo just NW of the bridge after the old tollbooth. I was reminiscing over ‘80s music when this video popped up, and even my two oldest kids 19 year old son, and 15 year old daughter think everything from the ‘80s was better.

That shot of Crockett and Tubbs at 2:52, especially the look on Crockett's face. That's the look of someone completely and totally burnt out and disillusioned by his job. In that moment, you know he's done.
Then later on, when Crockett stops on the dock and takes one last look towards the St. Vitus Dance as if he can't believe it's over. Very poignant.
    The 80's died on May 21, 1989.

The weird thing was......as I watched this scene for the first time back in the day I wondered what the last line would be......I had it in my mind they'd use the line "Hey Tubbs.....you ever consider a career in Southern law enforeement?" "Maybe.....maybe". When I heard them utter the line I had chills! The perfect ending!
