Neither the Tesla S or Luccid air are big sellers. Any car over $100k is a low volume car. But Mercedes sells more cars Worldwide in this price range than any other brand. So this EQS is an important car for Mercedes. Mercedes S class sells maybe 80,000 cars worldwide. This car may sell 10,000 units in the US.

I'm really surprised that a day later you still think their 10-80% charging near 200kW was "not a thing" when you started your charging at over 50%. It's a known fact that to get the ideal charging curve, you should start around or even lower than 10%... Various tests in Europe have shown the EQS to match or beat its 10-80% charging in 18 minutes (!) - and that's a 107kWh battery we're talking about here. So that's >70kWh in 18 minutes.

Never thought I would !this
I trust more the insideEV 70mi/h range rating than EPA numbers. Can somebody explain the EPA test? I don't understand why EPA Vs. Reality Numbers differ so much between brands
The EPA itself does not measure each brands electric car. They just have a standard testing that all automakers use and based on the results the AUTOMAKER picks what estimated range they want to give to consumers. So Tesla estimates range closer to what they get on the EPA test cycle, while brands like Porsche/Audi/Ford low ball their estimate. The EPA REALLY needs to overhaul the entire test cycle to be more accurate. Having automakers estimate their range after the test is just stupid and inconsistent.

More information about the brake pedal "issue": It's not a design flaw. When the brake pedal is pressed by the driver or actuated by the system, it shifts volume from brake main brake cylinder into an internal reservoir in the brake system. The shifted volume correlates to a virtual or fictious hydraulic pressure in the system which is then used to control the ratio of electric torque used for deceleration. It's on one hand a design decision to have the brake pedal at a position and on a force level which correlates to the same deceleration as if the driver would have pressed it and also a system constraint of the underlying brake system, which uses brake force and volume blending. And on the other hand, there is already hydraulic volume within in the system which will will help in certain backup scenarios (e.g. brake booster fail). This is a main difference between the system used in other EVs, e.g. Tesla. tl;dr: The movement of the brake pedal does not lead to hydraulic pressure in the brakes = no friction brakes.
In addition, the system is capable to maintain the same deceleration hence the condition of the electric motor, battery or something else. Torque which is not covered by the electric motor will be compensated by the brake system.

Wow. So many first drives of so many new amazing new cars continent to continent. There is no one better prepared to truly compare. Well deserved. Glad to see Mercedes gets their EV and UI right at least on top of line. They need to do same in the mid range section to win there. Seems they fell behind and are late. So much competition in all segments in EV now. That’s what was needed. Not just Tesla. Rivian and Lucid will need some time for full integration and tuning. But amazing vehicles for their first products. And once people know friends with EVs and they drove with them there is no stopping. Outside of the gas / oil fans who see Evs as liberal idea to control our cars and lives.
Why is the auto-recuperation mode only briefly mentioned, which is the most important and, above all, the most efficient mode. According to other tests, the car does this quite well and only recuperates when it makes sense. The topic is completely neglected. I understand that many find one paddle driving comfortable, but the fact is still ignored, even by BEV experts, that it is often not efficient. Every time you let off the gas out of caution, which you often do without actually braking because there is no reason for, many cars recuperate far too much and then need more energy to increase speed again than they gained from recuperating. Without losses it just does not work, in these situations, it makes much more sense to let the car roll. It would really be appropriate to make that clearer, but instead the impression is even given that that would be something bad if the car does not constantly recuperate strongly. The e-tron also has Auto mode and it works excellently, especially on country roads. Many cars, including Tesla to my knowledge, have no Auto Mode at all, which is actually a weakness.
All cars from the VW Group have ut. From the Taycan to the ID.3. They even slow down the car through regen if a roundabout or a tight corner follows on GPS.
@@aproduelektrotechniek9086 Yes, I know, but I have the impression that this is almost ignored by most testers. Instead of explaining that this is actually quite useful and efficient, they complain about weak recuperation depending on the setting and suggest this as a weakness. At least with EQS you have the free choice of what you prefer, not all offer that. The point is to make it clear that one pedal driving is not the most efficient choice.
I just want to know one thing and one thing only. Will I be able to watch Netflix, Disney+ on this thing? Ever since buying a Tesla and be able to just watch some movies before work and when waiting for my wife, mom or whoever, I can not go back to how it was before.
Listening to you is so relaxing, Kyle. I was really waiting for this car. I loved that id does not make compromises in efficiency, like most tradition automaker EV does in some way. But when it appeared, I think they went too far and become a bit ugly in the front. But actually it starts to grow on me. Time to time it looks nice.
"Go to hit the break and it moves away, I'm like oh where you going" I died laughing lol. Love this car, I'm not really into big name expensive cars (even though I can afford it) I'm a kia guy but I can't lie this car is beautiful and I'm thinking about getting it. I like the exterior also not sure why the hate. It's nothing futuristic or nothing but they did a good job especially considering they are pushing for aerodynamics. Interior and the features beats anything I ever seen.
These EVs from ICE manufacturers bring up a major issue. The dealers. I would assume MB will not sell direct to buyer. So the dealer would, over time, no Longer have their major profit center. So what is their incentive to sell an EV? Their markups on the sale would have to be dramatically higher. What am I missing.
Best EV interior by far! However the exterior sucks as hell!! Honestly for that price tag i will pass and wait for the next generation hoping both exterior and interior will match but again Kyle great review, appreciate it.
@@guenthermichaels5303 indeed..shame isnt the big contrast between the exterior and interior of such an iconic car..looks more like they were in a hurry to come up with anything EV to make a statement we are also in the business..thats why i believe they will be more focus with their next generations in getting all those balances right.
@@didierdido9148 taste is subjective. Mercedes did not rush this car. They have been working on it for 7 years. Mercedes spends 3 times more money on R&D than Tesla.
@@guenthermichaels5303 then its more worrying than first though.yes it is subjective,i agree on that but whats not subjective is the great amount of people both potential customers and auto journalists etc.. all saying about the poor look of the car exterior..to know they have spend that big amount of time for such a poor out look is disappointing to be honest,i mean its still a great car dont get me wrong though but i think and many will agree with me they could/should have done a much better job on exterior..
@@didierdido9148 it will sell.. it is a Mercedes. I've had 5, and will buy this before a Tesla or Lucid. It's quality and driving experience, not party trick of zero to 100 Accelerations. It is a Luxury car from premium brand. It's already oversold. I do admit, I was disappointed when I first saw it, because I was so impressed with the prototype, it was a stunning design. The Audi etron gt, definitely looks better, but the range and interior rear and trunk space is small.
Agree that the EV torque is not used 99% of time. The vast majority of time an EV car is being driven exactly like a gasoline engine one: same speeds, same acceleration. Only occasionally one would really push the pedal maybe when entering a highway. For this reason, an EV car is rather boring to drive, it lacks the 'feeling' and the presence of a gasoline engine. Surely a more sedated driving experience.
So lets recap. The Tesla (any Model S) have better software, better hardware, are quicker (quickest in the world ATM), are faster, better range, are cheaper, proven safety record, more cargo space, proven resale value, much better charging network, does not require a dealer, does not have a 76 page pricelist, and are more efficient. If you are American you may also consider that the Tesla is a true American product. If you are human you may want to acknowledge the single handed effort Tesla has made to force the dieselgate Mercedes company to make the EQS.
Nobody....absolutely Nobody reviews EV's from front spoiler to defuser like you. Love it! Keep up the great work 👍!

So much competition in all segments in EV now. That’s what was needed. Not just Tesla. Rivian and Lucid will need some time for full integration and tuning. But amazing vehicles for their first products. And once people know friends with EVs and they drove with them there is no stopping. Outside of the gas / oil fans who see Evs as liberal idea to control our cars and lives.
good speech
I saw the NY plates and then realized after he pulled out that he is in downtown Palo Alto.
What's that flashing light on the dashboard? It's distracting.
You can't see them in person it's just the frame frame of the camera not keeping up
Had no idea this would be 120k. Man. Thought they were going to be affordable for the normal luxury car owners and middle class 🥶
Body style looks like something your grandpa would drive to go sell real estate.
Listening to you is so relaxing, Kyle.
I was really waiting for this car. I loved that id does not make compromises in efficiency, like most tradition automaker EV does in some way. But when it appeared, I think they went too far and become a bit ugly in the front.
But actually it starts to grow on me. Time to time it looks nice.
it reminds me driving in a karaoke room.
Have you heard any information as to when the EQS SUV will be available?
i think SOP in Q2/2022 and available late Summer ´22 and the EQE SUV 6-8 Month later!
The AMG version looks better than its competition.....
Nah the side view is still bulbous
Not a fan of the screen thing...need to take your eyes off the road to do anything. Two essential knobs...volume and temp.
Love all those 4 cars. Good that they exist. Good that rich peeps now have some choice. Why not! Pays peoples wages....
This vs Lucid Air, which would you prefer?
Great that Lucid already comes to youre mind . Says a lot !
Lucid all day. I actually think the hyper screen is over kill but like the innovation
Neither....taycan.
Lucid! But for the money I would take the plaid
EQE 🤣 this is bulbous
"Go to hit the break and it moves away, I'm like oh where you going"
I died laughing lol.
I get you when you say you don't like it but my gripe is, well S-class and it still has mirrors??? man....
Kyle, are you aware that if you try to order EQS from a US Mercedes dealership, they are charging up to $50,000 upcharge?
Not all of them. I got mine at Msrp
Is Kyle one of triplets or at least twins. I see him on 3 0r 4 channels. He must be Jamaican because he works so much.
Great review, it clearly blew you away! Tesla boys will never get it, but Lucid is in trouble for sure.
These EVs from ICE manufacturers bring up a major issue. The dealers. I would assume MB will not sell direct to buyer. So the dealer would, over time, no
Longer have their major profit center. So what is their incentive to sell an EV? Their markups on the sale would have to be dramatically higher. What am I missing.
@@johnbrown6769 Taycan the best selling Porsche.. they seem to have taken it seriously. Others will find the right incentive.
⭐⭐⭐
How do you think this car would do on a EV cannonball run?
It's quality and driving experience, not party trick of zero to 100
Accelerations.
So... sound system?? I mean music
That hood can be opened someone needs to open it and show it
Says right on the warranty that opening it other than by a MB license tech can and will void warranty
This EQS shows that Tesla cannot build cars, only good batteries. I love this Mercedes EQS.
Sells figures say otherwise
Without Tesla there would be no EQS. Amazing what they have created from nothing.
@@rudyyyxu Even so, Tesla's quality is poor.
@@pierre.a.larsen Tesla fanboy. 😂
Looks like a large Toyota avalon. 😐 but the inside looks sweet.
Ok you're wrong. All motors can regenerate, all motors can one-pedal drive. It is not exclusive to permanent magnet motors.
It's looks like a hyundai ioniq from the outside
Such a huge front with no frunk... You can't even open the hood. Sadly a big waste of space
No space under the hood. You can see this in that video at 4:25 ruclips.net/video/Hw1QAOvrzS8/видео.html
The front isn't that big when you see it in real life
