Space Questions:
1. What do you make of the meteor shower over the Ural Mountains in Russia that happened in February 2013?
2. 2:28 -- Would you be tempted to represent Earth as part of an older couple on a mission to Mars?
3. 4:22 -- What gets you going about interstellar dust clouds?
4. 7:52 -- Would you consider following the late Patrick Moore in presenting 'The Sky at Night?'
ABOUT BRIAN MAY:
Brian May, musician and astrophysicist, is most widely known as the guitarist, songwriter and occasional singer of the rock band Queen.

Well thanks You For Showing That Brian Talks ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I Really Want To See All Of Them Exactly ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
His hair works well as a rock star AND a scientist
exactly my thoughts!
Steven pinker likes it too
He looks like as if Mozart and Einstein had a son, their son is a prodigy in both physics and music.
@@jeannedarc7533 *Beethoven dude😉😂
Wow you so cool 😑
Newton came back and quit Physics to play with Queen. :)
I was thinking exactly the same thing yesterday
his hair is there
And then after Freddy died, he said 'fuck it' and picked up physics again.
PlayerX 😁👑🎤
No, he didn't quit physics
"Shit happens, I suppose!" What a legend!
When?
wt8012 To my Knowledge, that might just be the VERY time that Brian May has *EVER* Been Funny in Public - he seems to find it fairly unexpected and surprising himself.....
And that already has factored-in the half decade in the late 80s where he and his wife would accompany each other to EVERY Interview the other was invited to give, and sat there together on adjacent chairs, whilst rockin’ *EXACTLY* the same haircut.
Plus the clogs. (obviously)
The best comment Bri could ever reply to.
@SPeacockYeah I’ve never heard him swear before
Imagine skipping class and finding out that Brian May was a guest lecturer that day
"It's the pursuit of knowledge darlings, isn't it?"
- Dr. May
So wonderfully British! Funny and poignant.
Channeling his inner Freddie.
He's got style
I would ask him if Freddie Mercury someday told him that his title is nothing in front of music.
it is supposed that Freddie Mercury someday told him that . I'm talkin about the movie.
The fact this man is a living rock legend and a Physics PhD still blows my mind.
"What gets me going about dust clouds.. It's the pursuit of knowledge, darling." How sweet, Freddie's definitely rubbed off on him a bit
He kind of looks like the guitar player from the band Queen.
In fact they the same person
woosh
woooosshhhh
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooossssssssssssssssssssshhhhhh
HAHAHA
He would be a great professor.
Caspar de Gelmini YES! Imagine the wait list for that class.
He was a math teacher once :)
RE try enrolling at Oxford. He is there

Teacher: "Brian, what would you like to be when you grow up?"
Brian: "A Rock God and astrophysicist!"
Teacher: "Rather lofty goals, Mr. May!"
Brian: "Stay tuned!" :D
Gotta be the coolest dude on the planet, lol. ;}
Teacher: "Brian, what would you like to be when you grow up?"
Brian: "A Rock God and astrophysicist!"
Teacher: "Rather lofty goals, Mr. May!"
Brian: "It's Dr. May."
"The pursuit of knowledge, darling!!"....he got that from Freddie.
Brian May- "Shit happens"
Everyone- *CLAPS AND GOES INSANE*
Suppose if everyone clapped and then one guy tapped his shoes on floor...
Rock God. Astrophysicist.
He calls himself "Dr. May" ---- so methinks he prefers the latter title over the former
Bill Belzek no he doesn’t call himself that
And he is also a Katakana reader.
It's the pursuit of knowledge, darling.
Brian May such a versitile, vibrant and humble person. One of the greatest musians alive, scientist. I am a great admirer of Queen band and Brian May.
I like to imagine he picked up those "darlings" from Freddie :)
Oh, he definitely had to!
He says it with the exact same inflection. A part of Freddie lives on.
But of course, Darling.
Actually, that was the first time I've heard *Dr. May* use that term of endearment--apart from that line he wrote in *39.*
"It's the pursuit of knowledge, Darling" was one of my favorite passages. It was beautifully explained and everybody strucked by his ability to instill the minds of young audience. Love it..
That phrase had a bit of Freddy in it.
I FEEL TOO GAY
A lot of ppl are shocked to find this man's doctorate was not just given to him by some university looking for publicity because he was interested in astronomy. He went to school like everyone else, completed his thesis, met all the requirements- and is actually a very well-respected figure in his field. It doesn't seem possible- to be as good at guitar and music in general, harmonies especially- as he is- and also have enough time and energy left over to be a well-respected PhD in astronomy- it's insane. And not only was he in one of the greatest bands of all time and helped write some of the most famous songs of all time- he also literally put the Vox AC30 amp on the map and created a signature tone with it- using handmade electronics- that ppl chase to this day and can't replicate. He was one of the first guitarists to ever use the Range master circuit- a treble boost he ran into the Vox to get that super saturated lead sound everyone loved so much- but since he also built his own guitar- electronics and all- he got a unique sound no one else can figure out. Some combination of his hand wound pickups played into that rangemaster through the Vox AC30- will give you the lead tone from "Queen Killer". But according to him you also have to crank the Vox wide open which means you better have it in another room- isolated, and mic'ed. Otherwise it's going to blow your ear drums.
Brian May's voice is so soothing that even if I don't understand much about what he's talking about space and all these knowledge about what he studied, it seems interesting and I am all ears for him.
I knew he was a rock legend and astrophysicist, but I didn’t know he is so charming and humble.
Lesser people might be tempted to rest on their laurels as guitarist for one of the greatest and most popular bands of the 20th century. Dr. Brian May obviously aspired to be something even greater.
He's a gift
Isn't it good to see that not all rock stars are airheads and that some are so firmly grounded in reality like Dr May. Respect very thoroughly earned!
When I'd found out that Brian May had received his doctorate in Astrophysics; I was apprehensive. Cause it's not like even the most prestigious institutions have "sold diplomas" (wink wink); but within 3-4 mins of the original interview, he proved that he'd worked for it.
Good stuff...
Help with reality in that most of his work was done before he got interrupted by his night job and hobby taking off.
His thesis is very comprehensive. Dr. Becky has a video where she reviews it.
What a sweet man he is. Funny, intelligent, and well spoken. Love him.
What a stellar human being
He is simply out of this world, isn't he?
An astronomical musician too🙃

He's a very intelligent man. He's father is something of another level
Brian May is such a gem of a man. A fabulous musician and an equally fabulous scientist! I have rarely come across someone who is an expert in such diverse areas... not just an expert but well known around the world. The only other person I can I think of in more or less the same capacity maybe the former Indian President Dr. Abdul Kalam was a multi-faceted person like him- an aerospace scientist, musician/poet/author and serving his country as a statesman. Legends.
Why did this bring me a tear like a proud Mom or something? Brian is such a luminary that seeing him shine in this way too is just inspiring.
That is perfect life, become musician and scientist
Science : the music of the spheres.
Brian May truely a great man
A guitarist singer and a astronomer
And Satanist as well

The trip to Mars would be roughly as long as one of his guitar solos.

Fascinating guy Brian May is.
When you get to do a project on Brian May, so you spend you day watching interviews for homework.
awh lucky id love that
I haven't heard much criticism or conversation about would be space colonialism. I'm so happy and proud to be a fan of Dr May and Queen!

he looks just like Isaac Newton, doesn't he?
Yes, he does!
Have you seen Newton?
@@bloody_me_put-in Maybe he saw a self-portrait of Isac Newton.
What if Brian May is Isaac Newton?
It’s Isaac Newton that looks like a rock star.
"it's the pursuit of knowledge"
You think he got the ""darling"" from Freddie? :-)
parkviewmo It's a common expression among London folks.
The video said it while I read this comment
Such a rock n roll answer "shit happens I suppose"
real genius...a rock star and a astrophysicist....genius....

NerdItMe I would marry him if I could; I don’t even care about the age difference.
@@Rosiejanedoe You bet. He's Mozart and Newton he's Beethoven and Einstein. He's my role model
I like Brian May. He makes me smile.😁
I wonder what it's like to live your life KNOWING that everyone you meet will hang on your every word. What an incredible man.
His "pursuit of knowledge" statement remind me of another Englishman who was asked why he wanted to climb Mt Everest. "Because it's there."
So okay, every Queen fan knows Brian May is both a PHD in Astrophysics and one of the greatest quitarist and songwritters but is it just me, lor is it surreal watching him GIVING A LECTURE ABOUT COMMETS IN A FCKING OXFORD AUDITORIUM
"An older couple for a trip to Mars"

Darling Doctor, please don't let the full moon mess with your inner tide pools! You and the other guys keep me on an even keel. I am so grateful for you and the music and RUclips access. Just watched The Sky at Night with you in the group discussion. Fascinating. Hang in there Brian. You are not alone in the struggle to keep the lights on, I'm sure you know. Your music is an instant lifeline for me. Thank You - doesn't quite cover it.
yay, there *ARE* speaks by dr. May. I've been spending evenings listening to him going on about his craft of guitars and playing, and fascinating as it is to listen to a master about his artistry, I personally have no investment on creating or playing music... sooo, thank you for sharing this, is what I'm saying ^^
I've got it!! He's cultivated that hair and read physics so he can slowly turn himself into Issac Newton.
god i love this man, its ridiculous

Brian May is an amazing talented musician, guitarist, keyboardist, singer, songwriter, astronomer, and physicist. Also a proud Ph.D. recipient, Dr. Brian May.
He’s gotta be one of the coolest dudes to ever live 😂😂😂 this is the man that played guitar on Bohemian fucking Rhapsody and here he is sounding like a modern day Isaac Newton.... as someone who is both a musician and a lover of all things related to space and the universe, I can honestly say that Brian May is a top 10 human being of all time 😂❤️
so is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. dude is a bloody caption of commerical flight, a World class fencer, author, editor, etc. easily of the coolest dude ever lived
We need much more people like him
Am i seeing Beethoven and Newton in the same person? Kinda looks like James May too?

The TRUTH, Dr. Brian is you COULD AND CAN. You HAVE the interest, the knowledge, the honesty, the Piety ,that Patrick had along too with the mesmeric audience capture when (he) you speak. @@wahey2839 He doesn't!
Watching this makes me forget that this guy's a rockstar.
Brian is an astronomy guy and Ace Frehley has a fascination with outer space. They would get along with each other.
Brian studied dust clouds and his bandmate John Deacon wrote a song called Another One Bites the Dust. Is that irony or what?
