I hit a half marathon PR in my very first run in the Metaspeed Sky Plus last weekend! I ran a 1:50, first time under 2 hours. I appreciate your reviews Kofuzi, they’re spot on for me!!
The fastest shoes I have but far from being the most confortable ones (a little bit firm for my liking). Cause of this I prefer to use them in fast training (tempo and intervals) and 5 and 10 k races. Nice video as always!
Your gait is really pretty clean and being a light runner helps as well. I have seen others trashing the outsole at 100 miles, especially the heel where the rubber coverage is scarce.
I have been running my tempos and long runs in the Sky+. I have just gone over 275 miles on them and they are holding up great. They are comfortable and exceeding my expectations. Great shoes!!
I ran Boston, Chicago, Toledo and NY with the Metaspeed Sky, 500km (~310 miles) total including some speed training. Overall great shoe, definitely I recommend it as good alternative for the runners looking for something different than the vast majority of Nike runners. Couple of complaints: laces are cheap and requires to exercise your patience as well to get the show in. May be because the upper is not stretchable (similar to a light plastic mesh) my big toe nail ends always black at the end of the race…believe me, I have tried different techniques to prevent black nail toes but always happens with this specific shoe. Thanks for your videos and reviews, hopefully we met some time in the future at London, Tokyo or Berlin marathons.
Are you talking about sky laces or sky plus laces? The sky plus laces are frilly like the alphafly, which incidentally, is the worst for my big toe of all the supershoes I’ve tried (it is nevertheless one of my favorites)
I'm not a super-shoe person, but I have to say... when you came to SF, that was my highest mileage week ever so when I showed up to the ASICS van event, I was pretty exhausted when I tried on the Metaspeed Sky+. That being said, I tried MP and HMP in the shoe and they really felt relatively effortless - a marked difference from the plebeian running shoes I normally wear!
You always give us great detailed reviews which I appreciate. I factor your reviews when deciding what new shoes to try. Since you have recently run several marathons in different shoes, I was wondering if you will have a marathon racing super shoe comparison review. That would be awesome. Continue doing what you do so well!
It’s safe to say that this shoe compliments you very well. I’m glad you emphasized that have similar running style can also achieve greatness with them!
When I first wore the Sky (original) I didn't like the firmness, however it's definitely grown on me. I now have almost 200km on them, including a marathon. I think I will pick up the Sky+ for my next race.
If you ever did a collab with Tom from the Run Testers (maybe a guest spot on their podcast), I'd love to see you guys debate this shoe vs the Endorphin Pro 3 which he wore for his Marathon PR at Chicago.
Similar to what you've mentioned in your video, I'm interested to learn more about creasing in midsoles. Some shoetubers discredit shoes early in the lifespan because of visible creasing. I'm curious to know if it affects performance at all or is just an aesthetic byproduct of usage. My hypothesis would be that midsole creasing doesn't uniformly correlate with degradation.
Out of all the Running RUclipsrs, I relate with you the most except for shoe size in which insert Thomas from BITR. Thank you for the breakdown on this super shoe through its lifespan and transformation. I haven't made the jump to a supershoe, we'll see how the SacTown 10 miler goes in the Adios 6, but the Metaspeed Sky Plus is the first in a very short list of super shoes I am ready to drop some nickels for. Did your sizing stay the same from the Novablast 2/3 to the Metaspeed Sky +? Asking for a friend.
Hey Ko, your videos and reviews are absolutely the best of all the shoetubers! Tapering down for CIM and the Sky+ and Adios Pro 3 are the two shoes in the running for my race. I seem to go back and forth with hard time deciding. I feel like Adios is bit softer cushion and maybe bouncier, but I feel like Sky+ is more comfortable upper especially in the heel collar
I find them very punishing on the quads and just don't work naturally for my personal stride. I know people said the Endorphin Pro 1/2 were harsh, but those are way forgiving for me personally. I can see where these would work well if you are powerful striding forefoot striker though. The Edge+ is more forgiving for me and turns over way better but still a bit punishing for me.
I lean towards Metaspeed Sky instead of the Metaspeed Sky Plus. The Plus, somehow, has a smaller toe box (to me) and scraped the top of the toe joints. I find myself needing to put band-aids on three toes before a race. I've had two Sky (not plus) and find myself more economical on the Sky than the Plus, perhaps the way my foot works with the different placement of the carbon on both shoes. Had over 300km on both shoes (and retired the other sky at 650km).
We are yet to see Metaspeed Plus shoes in my country. It's probably due to original metaspeed shoes didn't sell well here there are still bunch of pairs waiting to be sold even with blackfriday discounts. Meanwhile other competitive brands out of stock for almost any supershoe it's really odd for asics.
What region is this? As I understand how ASICS works, this may be a regional decision rather than a global one. If you want change, talk to your local running store

My running shoes have always been neutral. I tried the Nike Vaporfly running shoes and they were soooo aggressive that the strain on my heel area caused a lot of problems. For me, they were very difficult to wear for long distance runs The Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 has been the perfect running shoe. So much so … that I bought as many as I could as they were being phased out I am now looking for a new running shoe. Is the Asics Metaspeed Edge comparable to the Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ? Does anyone have any thoughts on a comparable running shoe to the old Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ? The strike was great ... not sooo aggressive that it put enormous pressure on my heels
These shoes are fast and the overall fit is great, but they feel very stiff and super unconfortable, and I think is due to bringing the forefoot too high and almost feeling like a positive drop from heel to toe, it feel un-natural for the feet, I don't know how to describe it
Really liked this shoe and pr’d my half. Was going to be my marathon shoe but after 9-10 miles I get pain in my left forefoot as if I’m landing on a spoon. Am I in the wrong size?
Doesn’t seem like a sizing issue. But I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of anyone landing on a spoon before. Like, are you landing in the saucer? Or are you standing on a bump? Which way is the spoon flipped?
@@kofuzi just a feeling I get 10 miles in right at the ball of my forefoot. I say spoon as it’s like a circular hot spot feeling. Perhaps bruiselike? It’s weird. I thought it also might be plate placement but my right foot is completely fine. I went with a size 9.5 whereas I wear a 9 in the noosas, and 9.5 in the novablast 3s. The sky+ felt slightly long.

I really like the Edge+ for up to half marathon distance, it’s also a great 5/10km shoe. Edge+ feels very different to the VF, as in it feels firmer underfoot and not as “springy”, but the heel fit is much better IMO.
I don't think so. Just based on my own experience after 16km I started feeling the shoes as a dead piece of a brick under my feet. Thank you both! To clarify, I generally have no business wearing a super shoe as I am not a fast runner. The reason i am asking is because a sports medicine doc (whom I trust) suggested giving one a try for an injury related issue. The ES3 is too unstable for me, will look into the Puma shoe. I agree with Kofuzi, super shoes are built for hard workouts and racing. Stick with tempo training shoes like the Saucony endorphin speed or Puma deviate nitro if you want something more versatile.
I actually tried the ASICS magic speed on and liked it but the upper doesn’t wrap my foot well enough.
