By far the best explanation I've seen about those two very confusing models. I ordered the Edge Paris while listening to this video, thanks for helping me make a decision.
I actually find the Edge Paris more comfortable/softer so I think it will depend on your stride like Asics says. I think the Sky Paris depends on a long stride with a powerful forefoot strike basically and the Edge Paris is more of that classic rolling over supershoe feel. It's like the Alphafly v1 vs Vaporfly. They're definitely closer than they've ever been and the difference is the most subtle. Both shoes are absolutely the best they have been.
I agree in the distinction - Sky for powerful strike where you want to put yourself forward (not necessarily long), and Edge for the “classical” roll where you like the shoe to help push you forward.
I agree that ASICS marketing is too geeky for its own good. I demarcate the two based more on distance and speed. I think of Edge as being for shorter, faster efforts and Sky for longer, slower grinds. Trying both is really the only way to know for sure what works best for you. Definitely one to buy in-store after a treadmill trial or online from a store with a good return policy.
Unfortunately I don't think a lot of people have the option to try both in store. If your comparison of the two is true then its definitely the most clear and logical out of all the reviews.
It’s actually the opposite. Sky gets you more forefoot oriented and feels like it encourages you to put down more power vs edge is more smooth rolling for long haul.
My guess is Edge better for heel strikers, Sky better for mod/forefoot strikers. This roughly corresponds to the manner in which you add speed - do you have close to the same cadence at all paces and speed up mostly by taking longer strides or do you tend significantly increase your cadence as you speed up. I only take 158 spm at like 730/mile pace and closer to 180 at 5 min/mile pace.
Where are the stores that have both of these physically sitting there that you can try on? The stores I know of don't have this sort of shoe in stock. I have to mail-order them as do nearly all of you I assume.
I watched many videos reviewing these two shoes, but none as complete and enlightening as yours! In a word: Excellent! I always really appreciate your comparison with similar models as this helps a lot to understand what the new model presented is like. In this case, your observation that the EDGE is firmer and the Sky is softer makes all the difference to me. I like firm shoes and I just hate soft midsoles. For this reason alone, my choice between the two is made. His choice of smaller routes for the Edge and the comparison with Adidas' excellent Takumi were also useful. Congratulations for your work!
Best practical explanation of the differences between the Sky & Edge shoe have seen in what 3 years of them now. Just pity they don't do either in a US 14 for me as my choice is easy - can't wear either! Before the default just seemed to be get the Sky as nobody really uses the Edge but sounds like they have at least got a more compelling choice this time. The cadence/stride thing, I always was a bit of a red herring as impossible to speed up without increasing both to a certain extent and then it is like asking if you are tall or short. Well a lot of runners are neither!
It feels like a missed opportunity to not make these in US14, especially when they do make some models in that size (like Magic Speed, if I recall correctly)
What if I'm a "cadence type" of runner, and I do max out my potential of cadence (190-200+), so my best chance to be faster is taking longer steps - so do I need a "stride type" shoe to help me??? confusing
I bought the asics metaspeed Edge paris today, i will use this on my 32km race day on August.. It felt good and as if there's an airsack similar to alphafly 3 which makes you move forward, bounce and etc.
Your midfoot-forefoot vs midfoot-heel striker explanation is the most accessible I've encountered thus far. It enhances my very high cadence as another factor. I’m a midfoot striker based in my own and my coach's observation. Since the vast majority of runners touch down initially on the rear lateral edge before pronating (in a good, normal way) into their full footstrike I assume that doesn’t count as a heel strike. Even you, Kofuzi, have mentioned a few times that you show wear there on your outsoles and you’re a very obvious forefoot striker.
I sort of have the same 'issue' with the rear lateral initial touch down and material wearing off on the rear of outsole. Just gonna go with Kofuzi's opinion on Sky being more suitable for Marathon/longer slower paces. Booked and getting the pair tomorrow, exciting!
Is he though? Every time Mr. Fuzi shows a gut shot on one of his 100 mile reviews, I don't see excessive wear at the forefoot. I think he's only a forefoot striker when the camera is rolling. That's what I think.
I wouldn't be surprised if the wear on rear lateral edge is from walking before/after runs, while making turns, or when going up/down hills. Could be anything really and shouldn't be worried about unless all wear was only coming from there.
From personal experience, the rubber sole itself does not show excessive wear even if one only strikes on that spot (unless the shoes has gone through seriously high mileage). It's the moment before the foot strike and the shoe 'catches' the jagged 'peaks' on the road surface that does the most damage. Like scrapping. @@laalaa99stl
Elite marathoners run at paces that are faster than most people's 5K pace. Seems to me that when you run fast you're starting to experience what the shoe was designed for. The shoe doesn't know about effort, but does know about pace and biomechanics through how force is loaded through the shoe and the velocity at which the midsole compresses and rebounds. The idea that a marathon race shoe designed for elites would be good for a 10 min per mile runner just because both are exerting marathon effort doesn't make sense to me. I'm not saying that you said exactly that, but you did talk about whether the shoe would be good for marathon effort and I don't think that can apply across the full range of runners.
It also fails to take into account that elite male marathoners weigh less than 120lbs, while many 'non-elite' runners weigh considerably more which impacts the dynamics of the foams and plates
My premise is the opposite. What you experience in shoes is relative to your effort. Otherwise, it is completely useless to have sponsored pro athletes unless you only intend to sell shoes to other 2:10 marathoners.
@@kofuzi Agree. Otherwise everybody from sub elite downwards would not be wanting to wear these sort of shoes for their race efforts and the last 5 years might as well not have happened. Equally going very easy in racing shoes is rarely that great either.
I was the exact opposite. Sky distracted me and felt like extra work whereas the Edge felt like it was working with me on every step. Totally agree about how confusing it is to recommend one or the other.
I imagine that the reason the Sky feels a lot softer is the late rocker. Since you already land pretty far forward you're landing a little bit into the rocker on the Edge. With the Paris you're landing on a lot more stack.
Another great review. I don't understand why people find it so confusing to something so simple not hard to understand or know if you're a cadence or stride runner. Asics has made two fantastic shoes for two different types of runners. I love my Paris Edge. Way better than the previous model. Softer, faster and lighter. Enjoy running fast in them. I run 180 plus in all my races except marathons. Think they are ahead of everyone else providing two different shoes for two types of runners.
Hey. I tried them both on and hated the feel of the sky. It came down to the medial arch support. For some reason the edge gave me more support. I went edge. Love all your videos. Thanks
Thank you for the break down. I really want to try the Sky Paris. I'm not as marketing genius but I don't understand why they look so similar. At least it's a nice colorway.
Previously couldn’t decide between Sky+ and Edge+. I class myself as a cadence runner but reviews for Edge+ were that it was best up to half marathon so I decided on Sky+ for marathon. I then accidentally ordered the Edge+! Got the Sky+ too eventually and raced in Sky+ for NYC Marathon but have since found the Edge+ to be the fastest shoe I’ve ever ran in. Recently got HM PB of 75 running in Edge+ and I don’t find it hard at all, running 200spm. Ordered Edge Paris and will race London Marathon in this hoping for a PB also. I’m 63kgs and 178cm.
My shoes coming this week. Have a couple of time trials on the plan for next week so should be able to get a good indication of the speed of the Edge Paris vs Edge Plus.
@@markoljustina Result = 2:38:17 in London in the Edge Paris. PB for me, great shoe. I believe even faster than the Edge+ for my running style and no issues at all running in them for a full marathon distance.
@@benwalton Congratulations on PB, superb time ⚡️ and thanks for feedback i also run PB in London, over weekend, 3:17:26 in VF2 i was in Asics Oxford street to find Paris series but there isn’t bigger sizes
In 1 month I will do my fifth half marathon, and I would like to lower my PB which is currently 1:50h. Do you think shoes like these can help, or is it just a waste of money and for a pace like mine it won't help at all?
Thank you for the review! All this while you really nailed it with your explainations and I can see that how you favours your running shoes towards certain type of run and it is almost identical to me. In your honest opinion, what supershoe has the softest midsole and yet still have that popping/snappy sensation?
Nice comparison, I'm in the UK waiting for the release. I'm a short course triathlete specifically doing 5k & 10k races. I am currently still racing in the original SKY (not+). When racing my cadence is around 175spm with a stride length of 1.45m. Stick with the SKY or try the EDGE as you mentioned its good for shorter distances?
that's not enough information I need the m of the delta when pace increases. if I understand what ASICS is saying, then a small m would predict a Sky preference. a large m would predict an Edge preference. ASICS never defined what small or large m would be, so it has left reviewers like me to search for alternate modes of categorizing runners, as I have done in this video
You missed one difference between the shoes, that also confirms your theory of foot striking position. The outsole rubber extends farther back on Edge compared to Sky. Place both pairs on a table with the back towards you and you will see there is a very prominent difference.
Personally, according to my watch data it’s clear that my stride length varies more proportionately with my speed than to my cadence. In the first iteration, I tried both and Sky was the clear winner for me.
Going to be taking your advice from the Sky Paris review to compare it with the Endorphin Elite-planning to carefully evaluate which will be my 2024 marathon racer, the Pro 3 won over the Sky+ for me last year!
Great review… 🎉 still no idea which would suit me so have ordered the superblast instead, which are on delay to the Uk, stuck on boat somewhere no doubt trying to avoid some rockets 🚀
Holding out for the SC Pacer V2. Asics super shoes just haven't worked out for me. I'm just not fast enough or something. Not taking the chance trying to figure out which one might or might not work best for me again...
I just got my Edge delivered yesterday, it is quite beautiful in person...I told Emily I wasn't too crazy about the black and yellow accents business, but I think I have changed my mind.
Great review, thank you. Which shoe is closest to the Vaporfly V2? I love the V2 but need a new shoe for London and don't want the V3 and can't yet get the Alphafly V3...
Really hits home at the need to get fitted and try both on if possible. I’m definitely a ‘stride runner’ but when I pick up my pace, I really heel strike more as I then begin to over stride. Making it very confusing to know which shoe would suit me best 😅 So would be difficult to pull the trigger on an online purchase.
Felt the same way about the Edge ! I felt exactly the same way , really good and exciting for a 5-10km ! I really wanted to fall in love with the Sky preorder it immediately but after testing it at the marathon expo the Edge really talked to me and I ended up buying it instantly ( I’m more comfortable with shorter distances ) Anyways really accurate and well explained review 🔥👍🏾
As I mentioned on your Sky Paris video, I'm an Edge+ person. While the Edge+ is, objectively, my fastest shoe, I don't reach for it as often as I should because subjectively it's one of my least comfortable. Not sure how excited I am about adding Edge Paris to my wish list. 🤔
I’m guessing I’m in the edge category? 😅. I like how u use the takumi as an example as I’m using that. I love the takumi but once it hits anything above 10k it’s not really reactive for me. Also on marathon pace I just do 5:30 as my cruising speed as to know push till I’m breathing heavily so at that point I’m using my heal to relax rather than striking front.
Doesnt the Edge S shaped plate mimic the Vaporfly and other carbon plated shoes? Is there another carbon plated racer that has a flat plate similar to the Sky? Contrary to Kofuzi, the flat plate of the Sky seems best at threshold or faster paces whereas the Edge and other shaped plates seem better at a more variety of paces.
Your video answered all my questions. I’m a heel striker who automatically becomes a mid foot striker when I do short fast intervals. However I’m never going to do a 5/10k. I have the Sen 9 for fun and speed training. I guess if had extra cash I would get The Edge for that reason. Thanks for the vid.
Fantastic review Mike, i appreciate the thorough comparison and contrast. How's the forefoot on the Sky Paris? For reference, i normally get the wide versions of SC Elite or a I go a half-size up on Endorphin Pro in order to accommodate my flat/high-volume feet.
@@kofuzi Hey Mike, good morning. I hope you're having a nice holiday weekend. A quick question... between the Edge and Sky, which of these two closely resembles the ride of Endorphin Pro 3?
Great as all your videos. I slowly started my comeback into running a month ago and can manage about 5k straight now. I jogg in Hoka c9 and the Boston 12 but looking for a shoe that is more ”fun” (super shoe). I weigh 85kg and my question is could the Meta sky paris be a shoe for me or is it too advanced for a beginner? Keep up the good work 👍🏻.
im a forefoot striker but also have a high cadence. Im 5'9 and have a mesomorphic build for a distance runner (between 155-160), so most of my faster running tends to be fast twitch and explosive with many little steps. id say my best distances are really between the 5K and HM with a few sub 17s and a 1:18 HM PR. This just confuses me. Because the video makes it so one seems like the Sky will work for me and ASICS website makes it seem like edge would be best for me.
How is a shoe measured or identified to be a "rocker". Stack and drop are able to be measured, however shoes marketed as rocker seems subjective, is there a way to measure or quantify this when comparing different shoe types?
@@kofuzi Just got the Edge +, based mostly off your review. Although Im in So. Cal. with several chain and boutique run shoe stores near me, I was a bit surprised to learn that no one really carries inventory in the super-shoe/carbon plate category. Im guessing due to the high cost of inventory with too many SKU's. I ordered on line and received a 2 days. I was concerned about the sizing since ASICS and Roadrunner Sports websites suggest to go up 1/2 size, I just went with the same sizing as my Gel-Nimbus and that worked out. Thanks again for your detailed review!
Whether it’s the exact same formulation would only be part of understanding whether one shoe is softer than another. The plate position plays a huge role in the perception of softness
Thank you for the great review, however I'm still confused with which one would I chose. Maybe a better way would be to compare it to my current marathon shoe which is the Adidas Adios Pro 3, which one of these is closer to the Pro 3? I'm a slower runner so I like Adidas becausein my experience it protects my feet, although I try to aim at going faster my main concern is to enjoy the distance. Thank you again for the great video.
Love this video comparison! Thank you Kofuzi... With Boston Marathon coming up.. debating whether I change to Sky Paris or keep with the Sky+ I have PR'd in at Berlin and Tokyo... Would love to know if you're making the switch to Sky Paris for London & Berlin this year ?
So funny because I work at a running shoe store and my coworker and I were comparing the two Asics shoes and then also trying on the Cloud Echoboom. I found both the Asics shoes a little too squishy and I found the shape of the last seemed to taper in at the arch, which I didn't like. We didn't get to run in them, only walked around the store though, which is never the best way to fully test a shoe.
Thanks for this video Ko! I was waiting for you to do this comparison!!!! I think the edge would work for me! I am a mid foot striker but I do love an early rocker.
Great video!- thanks ! The adios pro 3 has worked best for me so far - run 3 marathons in them Which of these would you think would have the closest feeling ? ( if any ) The rods are lower like the edge but there is a lot of forefoot foam stack like the sky
Now I’m really confused. The characteristics of the Edge Paris perfectly matches my preferences: earlier rocker and firmer foam. However I’m a forefoot striker thats training midfoot. If I let my instincts take over, I’m pounding that forefoot with a lot force and am obviously a stride runner.
Hi Kofuzi - checking on best version for me. Looking for light shoe like the Metaspeed. I’m 5’10” runner at 136 lbs so very light. Run about 20 to 25 miles a wk. Every 2 wks do 5k race and my pace slow compared to many at about 8min/mile. My race stride rate at 170 spm. And a bit of heel striker as this area first to show ware. U mention would recommend the edge as good for faster pace like for 5k. With slower pace like for marathon then recommend sky. But my 5k pace very slow so maybe then you think better sky? Thank you any ideas.
I'm a triathlete, and I primarily participate in sprint triathlons, which consist of a 750m swim, followed by a 22k bike, and concluding with a 5k run. Due to the unique combination of events, I won't be running as fast as I would in a standard 5k race. As a mid-foot striker, I currently use the Metaspeed Sky + and enjoy it, it also makes me run faster than in a vaporfly for example, but it tends to make my calves burn during the run. I'm considering buying the metaspeed Paris, but I'm unsure if i should get the edge or the sky . Any recommendations for a mid-foot striker running a 5k like myself?
I have heard the edge is a competitor to adidas adios pro 3. The edge heel area looks quite narrow (more like the adios pro 2) which was a little unstable, especially when cornering, though fine if your going to run in a straight line. Wondering how it compares to the pro 3. One thing that has also been mentioned by other pro 3 runners is that it takes a bit of break-in period the shoe and then you feel the true impact and "feel"of the shoe - I wonder if the edge will be the same...Also K did a PB in the sky so I take it that's what works for him best. Update: I just got the edge in the mail and my question was answered - the heel is narrower than the pro 3 and on par with the Takumi Sen 10. It's as if the pro 3 and Sen 10 had a child and this is what came out. I then wore one edge and one pro 3 (with about 30/40 miles on it). The edge was very stiff (like Kofuzi mentioned) and my pro 3 had "cushion". Question is, after the break-in time will the edge "feel" like the pro? Not sure since one uses a plate and the other energy rods. However, I'm not elite and not as fast as kofuzi and that's how the sky is marketed (plus I am more of a heel striker though I do run on the midsole though not as much) so who knows??...
Slightly more aggressive rocker at the front for me personally. Also make it so it doesn't take 60+KM to break in. I found the foam is quite a bit softer once I reached 100+KM.@@laalaa99stl
Thanks for another great video. Which one of these two shoes gives a closer running experience to the saucony endorphin pro 3? Which one of the two would you recommend for somebody who likes to endorphin pro 3? 🙏
As you have run in the sky+ & Edge+ it would be halpful to compare the old Versions of the sky and edge plus vs these? They are very diffrent sounding vs last models racing models. Thank you for any views as I know you prefered the Sky+, I loved the OG Sky and the Edge+ for my running style. Still have a pair of the original Sky's as a back up fun race pace shoe actually.
Hi Mike, thanks for this compare. But looks I'm even more not sure which would be better for me. I'm fore to midfoot striker, and that original difference between SKy and Edge, was maybe good for elite runners. I'm used to increase both cadence and also stride length when racing or running at a race paces, 5K, 10K or HMP. I't not purely that I increase only cadence or only strides, it's both. Waht do you think is the most comparable to e.g. Vaporfly 2 or 3, Sky or Edge Paris? Thanks a lot. Peter from Slovakia
it might be that neither is right for you. the plate position of the edge is more similar to the vaporfly, but the Edge plate position makes the shoe overall feel quite different
I don’t care about their marketing jargon. I look at how I strike the ground. I am flat footed supinator. I strike midfoot but the outer edge. I like how the Sky Paris has a wide and flared out platform for my footstrike. I have the Edge+ as well and it is an incredible 5k/10k racer. Insanely snappy. The more you push, the greater the response. I have my 10k PB on those shoes. The Sky+ is a great 21k/42k racer because it is so good at holding pace and you feel like you are barely putting any effort.
I am under 5 feet tall and completely depend on my 200+ cadence for running. I bought the Edge in 2023 but hated it. However, I am a forefoot/midfoot striker so I wonder if the Sky would be better for me.
Short answer: probably Long answer: This is the problem with the cadence vs stride running distinction. ASICS would likely say that pure high cadence itself is not the relevant metric. It’s what the change in cadence over a certain change in velocity would be that is relevant. But as far as I know, we’ve never gotten an m value for the slope of that change that could tell us, for example, m>=1 is a cadence runner whereas a m
My understanding from someone who spoke with ASICS is that it defines the "stride" runner as one who, as speed rises, increases stride length at a proportionately greater rate than his cadence increases. So, for me, going from tempo pace to mile race pace entails a 20% stride increase versus a 6% cadence increase = I'm a stride runner.
Hey Kofuzi, any plans to review the new Evoride Speed? I noticed that in Japan, they seem to advertise the Evoride, Magic Speed, and Meta Speed as apart of a training set.
Great review of the shoes and comparison of the foot strike. Do you have any concerns with durability on these? The rubber outsole of both pairs seems to have a lot of foam exposed and only covering the heel and forefoot.
Looks the same as the previous generation. There is noticeable damage to the exposed areas of my Edge+. That's just the cost of doing business when you get racing shoes. The foam will start to feel dead anyway before it completely falls apart.
Is the position or geometry of the plate in the edge the point that this shoe suits way better for a midfoot/heelstriker? Could someone explain it to me?
thank you for the review, I am not sure I understand your conclusions. You are saying that the shoes are great for 5/10k pace, but not for marathons? but you can agree that your 5k/10k pace is the marathon pace of a lot of fast runners, like your 5k pace is probably faster than 100m all out of a lot of people. I don't think buying shoes based on pace is really a good idea, what do you think?
I explain shoes based on effort not pace. For example, a pro runner’s easy pace is most people’s marathon pace (and likely faster). We do not go with which paces they like their daily trainers. We go by which efforts at which they prefer certain shoes.
I’m a newish runner, with 1 marathon and 1 half under my belt. Both my races I kind of just ran them conservatively to finish How do you figure out what your “marathon effort” is?
Maybe in vídeos like this adding a Few data from an Dynamic Running Garmin device, giving details in heart rate, step length, lactate Speed and so on could be more analytical to see real dynamic behaviour, apart From sensations
I wonder the confusing marketing strategy maybe intentional. I got both and they are indeed different. I have my preference but doubt that one’s performance is significantly better than the other. I certainly shelled out $500 for two pairs that I otherwise would have been perfectly fine with one
Hi Mike need a bit of help here. I am a 5k 10k guy. The best race shoe i have ever ran in is the next% v1. Nothin compares. Loved the next% 2 for track work etc but lacked what the v1 had. Saucony pro 3 absolutely amazing shoe tempos track threshold etc. But still not v1 nike material.. next % 3 no where near what the v1 was. Solid enough shoe but im still searching for that umph.. got the Saucony pro 4. Thought they were wider bulkier more squishy n they hurt my knee funny enough. So based on what I explained there which do you think would be suited to me. I understand thats a hard question. But race on roads and spikes on track. Just struggle with finding great shoe. Ps my daily mileage shoe is novablast 3 i have went through 5 pairs absolutely unreal shoe. 👌🙌🙏
if those are your primary race distances, I might nevertheless look at the Edge, especially since a good percentage of your sessions will be at 5k or faster paces
I can say for me, I prefer the Sky. And for Sky runners, they will generally prefer the Sky iterations for threshold effort to marathon effort. And those same Sky runners will prefer the Edge for mile race efforts up to threshold. I anticipate that Edge runners will prefer the Edge at all race paces
Asics marketing department has made it very kofuzing....

Elite marathoners run at paces that are faster
than most people's 5K pace.
My experience mimcs yours. The flat plate of the Sky was good for intervals but for marathon pace the Edge was much better with its curved plate.
I tried both and found that Edge is the real deal for me. I didn't have any directionality with Sky Paris.
Thanks
These shoes are absolutely beautiful aesthetically. Amazing job as usual!
I love your videos in general, but thank you so much for this review/comparison in particular!
Thank you for the break down. I really want to try the Sky Paris.
I'm not as marketing genius but I don't understand why they look so similar. At least it's a nice colorway.
Makes for good brand presence to streamline look I guess, more red in the field, more "wow, everyone is wearing Asics" impact
Write the result and shoe impression
I tend to be a cadence runner and love my Edge +, so should I plan on getting the Edge Paris? Is it drastically different?
My shoes coming this week. Have a couple of time trials on the plan for next week so should be able to get a good indication of the speed of the Edge Paris vs Edge Plus.
@@markoljustina Result = 2:38:17 in London in the Edge Paris. PB for me, great shoe. I believe even faster than the Edge+ for my running style and no issues at all running in them for a full marathon distance.
@@benwalton Congratulations on PB, superb time ⚡️ and thanks for feedback
i also run PB in London, over weekend, 3:17:26 in VF2
i was in Asics Oxford street to find Paris series but there isn’t bigger sizes
In 1 month I will do my fifth half marathon, and I would like to lower my PB which is currently 1:50h. Do you think shoes like these can help, or is it just a waste of money and for a pace like mine it won't help at all?
Racing shoes are never necessary, but I sure do enjoy them. If you’re on the fence, don’t get them. If you want to get them, have fun and enjoy.
Does where you wear out the sole on your shoe indicate whether you are a heel striker, i.e., wearing out heel? Therefore, Edge is more suitable?

Have the SKY Tokyo and love it...which one is more similar to the SKY Tokyo? EDGE PARIS or SKY PARIS?
sky Paris. It’s gonna feel different though, analogous to how Sky Tokyo is different than Sky+
Thank you for the review! All this while you really nailed it with your explainations and I can see that how you favours your running shoes towards certain type of run and it is almost identical to me. In your honest opinion, what supershoe has the softest midsole and yet still have that popping/snappy sensation?
Sky Paris
Nice comparison, I'm in the UK waiting for the release. I'm a short course triathlete specifically doing 5k & 10k races. I am currently still racing in the original SKY (not+). When racing my cadence is around 175spm with a stride length of 1.45m. Stick with the SKY or try the EDGE as you mentioned its good for shorter distances?
if my avg cadence is 170 spm and the stride length is 1,4 meter, what should i choose the metaspeed edge or sky?please help me🙏🏻🙏🏻
that's not enough information
I need the m of the delta when pace increases. if I understand what ASICS is saying, then a small m would predict a Sky preference. a large m would predict an Edge preference.
ASICS never defined what small or large m would be, so it has left reviewers like me to search for alternate modes of categorizing runners, as I have done in this video
@@kofuzialright, thankyou sir!
Thanks Kofuzi, just convinced me that I need another carbon plate running shoes :D haha appreciate your videos they are awesome!
You missed one difference between the shoes, that also confirms your theory of foot striking position. The outsole rubber extends farther back on Edge compared to Sky. Place both pairs on a table with the back towards you and you will see there is a very prominent difference.
The rocker geometry is also more aggressive on the sky compared to more gradual on the edge. Foam is wider in forefoot on sky as well.
Amazing breakdown, as always!!
What I'm seeing for the elites is shorter/lighter runners going for the edge, heavier/taller for the sky.
I'm 6'4/175 and I like the Edge. I have a much, much higher cadence at fast paces vs slow paces.
@@BigStar1972 I have like a 10/15 spm difference, from 180 to around 190.
Hellow everyone! I need your help,
Between the edge paris, takumi sen 10 and vaporfly 3, which shoes do you choose for a 3km race?
takumi sen
@@kofuzi thanks !! Your content is one of the best in youtube!
Really hits home at the need to get fitted and try both on if possible.
I’m definitely a ‘stride runner’ but when I pick up my pace, I really heel strike more as I then begin to over stride.
Making it very confusing to know which shoe would suit me best 😅
So would be difficult to pull the trigger on an online purchase.
Great insights. I hope Asics is taking some of these lessons to the Magic Speed 4.
Felt the same way about the Edge ! I felt exactly the same way , really good and exciting for a 5-10km ! I really wanted to fall in love with the Sky preorder it immediately but after testing it at the marathon expo the Edge really talked to me and I ended up buying it instantly ( I’m more comfortable with shorter distances )
Anyways really accurate and well explained review 🔥👍🏾
How is the Edge Paris compared to the Sky Tokyo? The plate configuration looks quite similar.
Thank you for the great review! Which one do you think has a closer feeling to Takumi Sen 9/10? I guess it would be Sky?
neither, but I like the Edge Paris for similar efforts
Thank you for sifting through this stuff for us!
Your opinion are very useful and clearer than Asics👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the video. I'm a heel striker but also a stride runner... should I still choose the sky over the edge? Thanks.
If you're sure you're a stride runner, id go with the Sky
@@kofuzi Awesome. Thank you very much.
Finally, someone explaining it. Looking for a daily runner and for races. at least 15km to marathon races. Looks like the Sky is better
Doesnt the Edge S shaped plate mimic the Vaporfly and other carbon plated shoes? Is there another carbon plated racer that has a flat plate similar to the Sky? Contrary to Kofuzi, the flat plate of the Sky seems best at threshold or faster paces whereas the Edge and other shaped plates seem better at a more variety of paces.
like AF3
Your video answered all my questions. I’m a heel striker who automatically becomes a mid foot striker when I do short fast intervals. However I’m never going to do a 5/10k. I have the Sen 9 for fun and speed training. I guess if had extra cash I would get The Edge for that reason. Thanks for the vid.
Fantastic review Mike, i appreciate the thorough comparison and contrast. How's the forefoot on the Sky Paris? For reference, i normally get the wide versions of SC Elite or a I go a half-size up on Endorphin Pro in order to accommodate my flat/high-volume feet.
there's a lot more volume in the Sky Paris vs the Sky +, but if you typically go for wide versions, you may wish to size up
@@kofuzi Hey Mike, good morning. I hope you're having a nice holiday weekend. A quick question... between the Edge and Sky, which of these two closely resembles the ride of Endorphin Pro 3?
For mne it was close. I could barely notice a difference on the shops threadmill.
How do you think the foam stiffness would be for heavier runners with the Metaspeed Edge Paris? I have a muscular build and im about 220lbs.
Edge paris is the best my running shoes. Feeling the difference , its perfect balance movement , stability , comfort , response.
have a great race!
Hey @Kofuzi, I have the metaspeed sky+ and endo speed 4. If the endo 4 feels more conducive to my stride, do you think it's worth it to try the edge?
I’m afraid I haven’t tried the endorphin speed 4 yet
How is a shoe measured or identified to be a "rocker". Stack and drop are able to be measured, however shoes marketed as rocker seems subjective, is there a way to measure or quantify this when comparing different shoe types?
Yes. None have been adopted as a standard though
Hi Michael, is the midsole of the Edge Paris softer than that of the broken-in superblast v1? Do you think it is exactly the same formulation ?
Whether it’s the exact same formulation would only be part of understanding whether one shoe is softer than another. The plate position plays a huge role in the perception of softness
finally !!..i been waiting fo this video..thank u sir😊
The age-old solution presents itself once again: buy both!!
Would you make the same approximate recommendations between the forefoot and rearfoot strikers for the Edge+ and Sky+?
At this point, yes
Which one is wider? I have a wide foot. What best super shoe for wide foot.
Same last
Thanks for this video Ko! I was waiting for you to do this comparison!!!! I think the edge would work for me! I am a mid foot striker but I do love an early rocker.
Great video!- thanks !
The adios pro 3 has worked best for me so far - run 3 marathons in them
Which of these would you think would have the closest feeling ? ( if any )
The rods are lower like the edge but there is a lot of forefoot foam stack like the sky
You didn't give any examples of matched shoes for the sky Paris only the edge 🤔, was this an oversight..
Nope. Absolute pace matters less than relative effort.
If you want to race 5k in one of these two shoes, go with the Edge
spot on. awesome review as always.
thanks so much!
Did I miss the question, I already have last years Sky+. What would make it compelling for me to upgrade?
Great review Mike! So which supershoe will you be using in your next marathon?
I do not plan on ever running a marathon in the Edge Paris
However, I'm not elite and not as fast as kofuzi and that's how the sky is marketed (plus I am
more of a heel striker though I do run on the midsole though not as much) so who knows??...
Yeah, the positioning of the plate in the edge is similar to the adios pro 3's rods too.
cant wait for a Superblast 2
Why? It's already a perfect shoe. What improvement does it need?
Slightly more aggressive rocker at the front for me personally. Also make it so it doesn't take 60+KM to break in. I found the foam is quite a bit softer once I reached 100+KM.@@laalaa99stl

As you have run in the sky+ & Edge+ it would be halpful to compare the old Versions of the sky and edge plus vs these? They are very diffrent sounding vs last models racing models.
Short answer: probably
Long answer: This is the problem with the cadence vs stride running distinction.
Decided to buy both.....Best of both worlds
Which one is better? And why?
@@markoljustina edge is better for me and better for shorter distances......the Sky is better over longer distances in my opinion

I do not have any plans currently
Great review of the shoes and comparison of the foot strike. Do you have any concerns with durability on these? The rubber outsole of both pairs seems to have a lot of foam exposed and only covering the heel and forefoot.
Looks the same as the previous generation. There is noticeable damage to the exposed areas of my Edge+. That's just the cost of doing business when you get racing shoes. The foam will start to feel dead anyway before it completely falls apart.
Is the position or geometry of the plate in the edge the point that this shoe suits way better for a midfoot/heelstriker? Could someone explain it to me?
yes
thank you for the review, I am not sure I understand your conclusions.
Otherwise, it is useless to have professionals endorse shoe brands.
I’m a newish runner, with 1 marathon and 1 half under my belt. Both my races I kind of just ran them conservatively to finish How do you figure out what your “marathon effort” is?
Finally you release this comparison🔥🔥🔥
thank you for your patience
Is there a place around you that has these and or other similar rare running shoes? Every place I goto is limited in what they carry.
Also compare these to the superblast 2.
I'm wondering if I'm going to spend 200, if it's just better to pay just a bit more for the sky.
I thought the sky ha d a 5mm drop and the edge had an 8mm drop no?

I got both and they are indeed different. I have my preference but doubt that one’s performance is significantly better than the other. I certainly shelled out $500 for two pairs that I otherwise would have been perfectly fine with one
Hi Mike need a bit of help here. I am a 5k 10k guy. The best race shoe i have ever ran in is the next% v1. Nothin compares. Loved the next% 2 for track work etc but lacked what the v1 had. thanks for watching!
This kofuzied me a bit. You’re saying that cadence runners are heal strikers. Is that really the case? Seems like it’s usually the other way around.
As a 5k-10k midfoot-forefoot runner, would the sky still be a great option for racing?
if those are your primary race distances, I might nevertheless look at the Edge, especially since a good percentage of your sessions will be at 5k or faster paces
heya kofuzi: what pace are this good? below 5min/km?
I can say for me, I prefer the Sky. And for Sky runners, they will generally prefer the Sky iterations for threshold effort to marathon effort. And those same Sky runners will prefer the Edge for mile race efforts up to threshold.
I anticipate that Edge runners will prefer the Edge at all race paces
