Patiently awaiting your verdict on adidas evo sl... as well as the coming asics novablast 5. Adidas evo sl vs Asics novablast 5, my budget is only allowed me to choose one. Which one will you choose and why? I know it is a little bit early, but I want to grab it on December 1st. My feet can no longer wear the current shoes, it is time for a new pair.
One of your best shoe reviews IMO! Really was looking for your comparisons and your spot on to what I've experienced and answered questions I can't find anywhere else. As a 205 lb runner, loving the Puma Fast-R 2. Also love the DNE3 - ATPU is awesome! Thanks again.
Both my 10K and half marathon PR’s where done in the Metaspeed Paris, I simply love this shoe 🎉. I have paired them with Endorphin Pro 3 for speed work, and NB more v4 for non-speed work. Finally I got a pair of Puma Velocity winter edition for snow ❄️ an ice as the puma grip keeps me standing 😂
I've got a pair of Addidas Pro 3's with over 250 miles on and they're hardly showing any wear. They're really good value for money for a marathon shoe. Really interested in the Pro 4's when they come out.
YO - 200k! - also, this Paris Sky got me to my fastest half-M time in over 20 years this past September. This thing flies; I think the pinky/wear aspects are also how the shoes favors supination when I footstrike, but my feet survived fine. Probably wouldn't use it for a full marathon, however, due to the narrow heel. Another fantastic review....
Thanks for making me laugh. We now have a 100 mile smell test. 😂 It can indicate how hydrophobic the materials are so it’s a valid test. I just don’t remember you ever doing a stinky shoe test. Great review.
I smell a lot of shoes for some reason, but I usually only say something when a shoe smells bad. I have found that shoes that I travel with tend to almost always smell bad (on the return trip home, they often get crammed into luggage while still a bit wet). these didn't smell bad though. so it seemed worth remarking.
Knocked 5 minutes from my half marathon pb in mine, they are my new best friend. Rome next, old foolish knee permitting! Superblast 2 and Sky's were my 2 shoe set up (with a smattering of SL2 as an interloper)
I really like your 100K videos. Some runners do the opposite, the Sky for workouts and the Edge for race day. Having Saucony Speed 4, Puma DN2/3, I felt getting MS4 would be redundant and like you I have been considering one of the two the Edge or the Sky for workouts.
Pinky toe crush-yes I have noticed that too - makes me supinate a bit. I have felt that recently in the SB2 and Nimbus as I have quite a bit of miles on them but haven't gotten there yet in the Paris. Btw - wow and congrats on 200k - keep it going!
I just ran a 10 mile race yesterday in Pittsburgh which adds up to about 23 miles on my pair; I was just curious of how people are rating Asics MSSP durability and of course my favorite shoetuber dropped that video this week- Thanks Kofuzi. As for my short review... They still look and feel fine minus some minor foam hits (there's no way that's going to effect any performance). Kofuzi is right about this shoe but also applies to most race shoes- the way the foam is painted; it definitely hits cosmetically long long long before there's any real feel of performance changes. I'm not a fast runner and only ran the 10 miler at a 7:20 min/mile pace. So there's probably some debate as to where I'm even the target runner for these shoes but I still enjoy them. Having a race day shoe is a mental boost for me. It still felt like that plate gave me that pop to really climb hills as a forefoot/midfoot striker the toe-off was really aggressive. I definitely over-pronated later in the race and felt some stability issues after going way too hard at the beginning but that chunk of foam in the forefoot made it more stable than the vaporfly in my opinion but felt a little squishy in the heel when I was running down hills (that's usually the only time my heel gets any significant impact). The next day my feet feel pretty good as I've found having a large shoe rotation is a bad recipe for blisters but these are great shoes even for a jobber like me.
The running to the beat in the water is epic and classic Kofuzi at the same time! Agree with the other comments this is a shoe I love for anything half marathon and below, starts to feel narrow in the arch for my foot over longer distances.
wow 200k. Paris the best race shoe for me. I tried back to back Nike Alpha 2, Vap 3, Sacouny Endo elite, addias Primx2 &3. Is light bouncy and comfort for my half marathon 70.3 race😊
@ i have the mach 6 and its very light and responsive but the eva just doesn't bounce like the nicer foams. NB pricing is crazy where I live (managed to buy the metaspeed for less than rebel 4/1080) I guess my next trainer is evo sl or novablast 5 🤞🏻
After 147 miles in them, I've had the same experience with the Sky Paris's pinky crushing. The tops of my pinky toes have been rubbed raw just about every time I've run hard or raced in them. I'm seeing a similar breakdown in my outsole, mainly around the exposed part of foam under the big toes. The overall sensation is still great though and I wouldn't hesitate to race anything shorter than a marathon in them now. Back in April, an ASICS rep told me they will keep making the Sky+ for at least a while as they didn't consider the Paris a replacement. For still charging $250 for them, they must be selling pretty decently!
Awesome review! I’m a ANBlast guy! I’ve heard you and others recommend maxing the long run at around 3 hours due to point of diminishing returns. What is your advice on us 5 hour marathon (projected, 3 non-elite🙂) on building cardiovascular, muscular endurance for the extra two hours? Ty!
I've got these, they're crazy light but they destroy my legs. I don't think I'm strong enough, or fast enough for them. Ran Poznan Marathon in them two weeks ago.
Guess I need to try my MetaSpeed Sky + again. Ran 2 10 miler runs in them and I could not believe how terrible they felt. So firm and no rocker feel at all. I run in all brands and all types of super shoes and I was shocked at how many said the Sky + was so good. It made me skip the Sky Paris.
Great video. I have the edge and alpha fly and I think the Nike suits me better. Both are great and I use them regularly. Wanna get a trainer thanks for the suggestions.
I also have pinky toe issues with the metaspeed sky +. I ran a marathon with the white upper. By the end of the marathon they were red. If i tape my toe i can run up to a half marathon in the shoes without any blisters. So marathon for me anymore in this shoe.
I still haven't figured out if I want to buy the Edge or the Sky. I currently am running in the Gel Nimbus 26 for slow and easy days and Superblast 1 faster days and long run days. My biggest concern is the stability comparison between the Sky and the Edge. I am only going to be racing 2-3 5ks each year and one half marathon, so I am wondering if the Edge (or maybe even the Magicspeed 4) may be the better option.
My Metaspeed Skys are about a million times more comfortable than my Alphaflys. But I think the Alphaflys are a little bit faster. Anyone feel the same?
“Hi Kofuzi, I’m an amateur runner weighing 61 kg, and I tend to have a longer stride. My marathon pace is around 4:23 per kilometer. I’m looking for advice on choosing my first pair of carbon-plated shoes that also offer a reasonable lifespan. Could you recommend some options that balance performance and durability? Thanks!”
Four iterations of the Magic Speed, and people still aren't thrilled with it. Why is it so hard for ASICS to make a tempo trainer when they're so good at making everything else? I think what people really want is a Metaspeed Paris but with double the outsole rubber. But that wouldn't be a cheaper shoe which seems to be an imprtant disiderata for a TT. Maybe our best option is to do just as you said and use a retired racing shoe as a TT. The Puma DNE1 is a favorite of mine in that role.
the magic speed has gone through so many changes, and I'm glad that they've been so open to tinkering so much with this model. but I wonder, with the success of the Superblast, if the Magic Speed is perhaps becoming the forgotten shoe in the lineup.
It’s all daily training foam in that one but with a carbon fiber plate. Your numerical number may vary depending on how you’re using them, the terrain, and frequency. But I’d estimate that it will be slightly less than what you typically get out of a daily trainer, as it is a bit lower of a stack height (relative to other shoes using the same foam)
I would probably suggest the Sky, and I’ve made a video about it if it helps ruclips.net/video/z8O6rKQavj4/видео.htmlsi=kiMBEBT-iQMzrAQv And while I still the the Sky is the more popular overall in terms of Sky vs Edge, this year’s Edge seems to be more popular than usual
How long do you feel these last in general? Compared to Superblast and/or Novablast? I've heard wild ranges of Superblast up to 500 miles - I suspect it's more preference and individual rather than build quality but curious on your average "pull the plug" miles for these guys. Thanks!
I typically treat my disclosures as matters of specific provenance. How did _this_ thing get on my desk? did any competitor pay to have their brand mentioned in this video? were any of my statements edited by a third party? these questions are answered in my disclosures. over on Instagram, I've been toying around with what I think you'd call more "full" disclosures (although I think of them as abstract disclosures), describing the nature of my relationship with any brand depicted, regardless of whether I paid for the product or not. And I typically leave it in categories of increasing closeness of the relationship: no disclosure, I have received product from this brand, I have done unpaid public appearance work for this brand, I have done paid public appearance work for this brand, and I have made collab merch with this brand. Using that style for this video, the disclosure would be: ASICS: I have done paid public appearance work for this brand Puma: I have done paid public appearance work for this brand Nike: I have done unpaid public appearance work for this brand Soar: I have done paid public appearance work for this brand Rabbit: I have made collab merch with this brand Path Projects: I have made collab merch with this brand The response to this style of disclosure has been pretty negative (likely because it's all stuffed into an IG caption and may come off as a humblebrag). And a new problem created by this style of disclsoure is that it omits temporal relevance. Like, the last time I worked with Nike or even accepted any product from Nike was five years ago. And my since my most recent trip with ASICS, I went with Puma (expenses paid but no cash) to cover Zurich Diamond League, I went with Soar and Sports Tours for Berlin Marathon (Adidas provided a shoe to run in, but no cash no bib no expenses). And I went to Boulder with Salomon (expenses paid but no cash) to cover their upcoming gravel lineup. Chicago was my most recent event, and I did public appearance work with Rabbit and ASICS (I hosted shakeout runs). But Chicago is local to me and I did not run the race. So there was no bib to provide and no airfare, hotel, or food expenses to cover. I've considered compiling this information into an on-going, view-only list of all the events that I've participated in and the nature of my appearance there. This would be voluminous and would have to be referenced via link. But I suspect that linking out to an external document would be quite cumbersome and rarely utilized for its intended purpose. I think it's most common use would be for cherry picking. Something that I've also considered but don't do is explicit counter-disclosures (making sure that a brand hasn't paid me to say bad things about a competitor). Like I don't mention that I have done similar paid public appearance work for any brand that is not in the video but is a competitor of the brands depicted, like Adidas, or unpaid public appearance work for Hoka, Salomon, or New Balance. Again, this could potentially be resolved with a link to an external document, assuming someone is willing to look into the data to cross reference dates of collaborations and negative opinions about a competitor. I don't think anyone is actually willing to do that (unless for ulterior motives). I hope that helps explain I say why I say what I say and don't say what I don't.
@@kofuziI appreciate the very thoughtful response. I’m coming from this working in the medical industry, where obviously there’s a lot more on the line and consequently every meal even must be disclosed publicly. However I have just felt the brands are infiltrating so much content it’s hard to know who’s being paid by who and what’s a real opinion verse brand influenced content. It’s gotten a bit out of control imo and it’s good to know a leader in the field is at least being thoughtful about ways to best approach it. Thanks again.
That’s one way of looking at it. Another way of looking at that I’ve proposed here is that they were looking to create a specific different sensation. And now you have two options (in addition to the Edge Plus vs Edge Paris options)
I think that depends very much on the terrain (I’m assuming that you’re talking about flat road or even a track if you’re considering this shoe), but I’d probably pick something that prioritizes comfort a bit more. Consider the Superblast 2
@kofuzi, Thanks for your response! I’m preparing for a 100-mile ultra marathon on road with 4,100 meters of elevation gain. So, while it’s a road course, there are plenty of steep hills along the way. I already have these shoes (Edge version) and love them-I even picked up an extra pair! I guess that light shoes make a big difference on such a long distance. However, I’m a bit concerned about whether the carbon plate might put me at risk over such a long distance. I really appreciate the light weight and bounce they provide, but I’m hoping they won’t be too hard on my legs over the full race. What do you think? Is the risk real?
This shoe ins INSANE!! got my pair for my 1st ever marathon in Jakarta Run Festival early October 24. Been using itu 3 times (interval training, tempo long run & race day) clocking 97K in total. Got PB Everytime using it. Different concept with Nike’s supershoe that tend to make you bounce. This shoe is cant explain it how it did it. But its true makes you run faster!
Why no whole view of the underside of the shoe?? My Metaspeed Sky Edge have started to deteriorate a lot on the heel (where there is no extra rubber outsole). The very small grip has worn fully thur to the foam. This is after only 100 KM (~60 miles)
hmm. I usually try to show the worst of the wear in as high resolution of detail as possible, but I guess I missed including the establishing full outsole shot. I know that I have video footage of it. message me on IG and I can send you a screenshot of the entire outsole.
I have the same experience with my Sky Paris. I have 180 miles on them. They still feel great but the wear is pretty bad. For comparison, I have put over 400 miles on my Endorphin Pro 3s and they look a lot better
whats exactly the difference between the metaspeed sky+ and the sky paris? i thought its just a "newer" version of the sky+ ? but it looks not the same either. to be honest i cant find a good comparison video on the internet
Edge Plus is the fastest shoe I own. But it's rough on my legs. Sad, but not totally surprised to see that the slightly softer Paris edition is also slightly slower. I think the tradeoff might still be worth it. Be good to your legs! Also. Get some crazy glue on that spot where the outsole is separating from the foam ASAP. That's a nucleation site for worse things to come.
Running my first marathon in 7 weeks, using the Metaspeed Sky Paris. I have had 4 runs (6m,8m,13.1m,16m) with a total of 43 miles and they are holding up really nicely. Hoping to get two 18's and a 20 miler in them before race day.
Just FYI, both my coach and all the staff of my indie running store (all of whom are real runners, including one who has run two Olympic Marathon Trials) recommend 25-30 miles on a race shoe as the sweet spot-both for maximizing the shoe's comfort itself but also knowing how it’s working for you and will work on race day. Beyond that, you’re adding mileage that will shorten the life of them unnecessarily for future marathons. Apologies for unsolicited advice 🙏🏻 but if you wish to get another marathon or two out of them you might consider not putting those extra runs. On the other hand, if you plan to use them afterward as a long run shoe or other trainer, never mind! And good luck on the marathon!
Idk if its just my country but Asics is non existent last couple of months. Superblast is nowhere to be seen and others like magic speed or metaspeed. The only available models are nimbus, kayano and novablast
Make no mistake, YOU are an elite athlete for me. But, seeing the wear you experienced on your pair is a slight bit disappointing, especially after Clayton Young said in his Paris video that he poured hundreds of miles on his Metaspeed Sky. May be that was not Paris or may be real pro’s running form is that significantly different than even an extremely good runner like you or may be that was just metaphorical comment. Either way, great review Mike. I still race in Superblast but, when I am Carbon ready, without a doubt Metaspeed Sky will be my shoe!!
How is it that both can be true, your words? 3:48 "a lot of this wear is purely cosmetic.....still a great amount of bounce back" and 4:50, "the shoe is getting mushier over time...there's less pushback......bouncing back with at least a little less pep" . You missed your calling, you should be a politician. I love your game K but c'mon bruh, you're faking the funk. What's your BMI? Based on all you've said, that looks to be a 200-225 mile shoe for anyone with a BMI of 24+. That shoe is too beat up for this measure of miles and your BMI.
thank you for your feedback. I recognize that I could have been more careful and specific in terms of which elements of wear I think is cosmetic and how that correlates, if at all, to the behavior of the foam while running. I hear you in that you believe I am making two opposing statements. but if I'm experiencing that this shoe feels like a 100 mile shoe, and you are telling me that this looks like a 200 mile shoe: perhaps we are in agreement (even if at some very small level) regarding whether there is disparity in how worn the shoe looks versus how worn the shoe is. would that be fair to say? or if you think I am making an extrapolation beyond the original bounds of my recorded statements, I am open to that feedback.
@@kofuzi It's not my belief, it's your words - that say it 'both ways'. I don't think you can slice it that thin or parse the components of the shoe like this. It's speculation on your part that the physical signs of degradation in the forefoot are purely cosmetic, which is hard to swallow since you show us visual evidence otherwise in the video (the physical degradation of the shoe at 00:15-00:22) of the heel. You're telling us to not believe our lying eyes, it's cosmetic (in the midsole), as you show us the opposite in the heel of the shoe. Mindful of your BMI, the miles and what appears to be solid midsole/midfoot striking, my opinion is that heel degradation / separation of materials we see in 00:15-00:22 suggest an actual heel striker with a BMI above yours will experience more and faster degradation...and or have a tenure with that shoe of about 200-225 miles. Respectfully, it's nothing less than shocking to see what we do in this video 00:15-00:22 at this mileage in a $250 shoe and Asics would agree and accept a return of the shoe no questions asked. This video is actually more insightful and helpful in guidance on when to return a shoe. It does not matter where the initial signs of physical degradation surface - a $250 shoe can't have physical degradation like what we see at this mileage and should be returned.
I'm using the Metaspeed Sky Paris for Sundays NYC marathon. I'm excited to finally have a chance to use it for a marathon.
good luck in New York. I'll be there cheering. hope to see you on the course!

Nice
Kofuzi, on an average how much mileage can I expect out of a Magic Speed 3? I am heavy runner
I think this years edge reminds me more of last years sky +. Then edge+ more like og sky
kofuzi please give me recommendation running shoe for race day if im a flat feet
hmm, i've got the adios pro 3 and alphafly 3 thinking of ASics Edge
I would probably suggest the Sky, and I’ve made a video about it if it helps
ruclips.net/video/z8O6rKQavj4/видео.htmlsi=kiMBEBT-iQMzrAQv
And while I still the the Sky is the more popular overall in terms of Sky vs Edge, this year’s Edge seems to be more popular than usual
How long do you feel these last in general? Compared to Superblast and/or Novablast? I've heard wild ranges of Superblast up to 500 miles - I suspect it's more preference and individual rather than build quality but curious on your average "pull the plug" miles for these guys. Thanks!
Race product doesn’t last as long as daily product
Do you stop at all during a 22mile long run , or is it a continuous run ?
I love the videos, but wouldn’t a full disclosure state something about the free trips and other benefits you’ve received from ASICS?
Using that style for this video, the disclosure would be:
ASICS: I have done paid public appearance work for this brand
Puma: I have done paid public appearance work for this brand
Nike: I have done unpaid public appearance work for this brand
Soar: I have done paid public appearance work for this brand
Rabbit: I have made collab merch with this brand
Path Projects: I have made collab merch with this brand
The response to this style of disclosure has been pretty negative (likely because it's all stuffed into an IG caption and may come off as a humblebrag).
I think did not need to change the foam material if they had superb foam, right?
That’s one way of looking at it. Another way of looking at that I’ve proposed here is that they were looking to create a specific different sensation. And now you have two options (in addition to the Edge Plus vs Edge Paris options)
Hi! Would these shoes be suitable for running a 100-mile ultra marathon, or would you advise against it? Thanks in advance for your advice 🙏
Is the risk real?
which shoe is more good for speed training kind of fatlek and interval? Superblast2 or magicspeed4?
This shoe ins INSANE!! got my pair for my 1st ever marathon in Jakarta Run Festival early October 24. Been using itu 3 times (interval training, tempo long run & race day) clocking 97K in total. Got PB Everytime using it. Different concept with Nike’s supershoe that tend to make you bounce. This shoe is cant explain it how it did it. But its true makes you run faster!
I have 700km in my Metaspeed sky + and tbh they look like they did at 200km
That's some good going 👌🏻
that's a lot of k's!
Same
I have the same experience with my Sky Paris. I have 180 miles on them. They still feel great but the wear is pretty bad. For comparison, I have put over 400 miles on my Endorphin Pro 3s and they look a lot better
whats exactly the difference between the metaspeed sky+ and the sky paris? i thought its just a "newer" version of the sky+ ? but it looks not the same either. to be honest i cant find a good comparison video on the internet
short answer, it's a different foam formulation
I put my novablast 4s in the washing machine and they look great. Why are all your shoes filthy? Should I not wash mine?
Wash them if you want. (Just don’t put them through the dryer)
I really could care less if mine are dirty. I kind of prefer them that way.
What about the metaspeed edge they any good
I think it depends on what you like. I've made a video about it here
ruclips.net/video/z8O6rKQavj4/видео.htmlsi=oGoHzuMVbM3hB1pn
Yo, what’s going on!!
Novablast 5?
I don't have them
Running my first marathon in 7 weeks, using the Metaspeed Sky Paris. I have had 4 runs (6m,8m,13.1m,16m) with a total of 43 miles and they are holding up really nicely. Hoping to get two 18's and a 20 miler in them before race day.
sounds like a good plan. good luck with your training!
ASICS does not make race day shoes in US size 14 nor 15... Nike is king of race day shoes!!!
Hey Mike can you review Amazefit trex 3
I still race in Superblast but, when I am Carbon ready, without a doubt Metaspeed Sky will be my shoe!!
wow...he wore the prototype not sky paris 😄
I hear you in that you believe I am making two opposing statements.
but if I'm experiencing that this shoe feels like a 100 mile shoe, and you are telling me that this looks like a 200 mile shoe:
perhaps we are in agreement (even if at some very small level) regarding whether there is disparity in how worn the shoe looks versus how worn the shoe is.
would that be fair to say? or if you think I am making an extrapolation beyond the original bounds of my recorded statements, I am open to that feedback.
100 miles and they fall apart, what a crap Asics made.
