Today I became debt free!! Took persistent hard work and planning...like you say... but, I did it!!! Thank you Jane and Mike for your terrific videos...very encouraging and practical! SO glad I found your channel! THUMBS UP EVERYONE!!! xoxo
FABULOUS!!! Congratulations on becoming FREE!!!
Congratulations and well done. It's not easy but it's worth it
Way to go! Congratulations!
Congratulations! 🍾 👏🏻
Great Job!! Big CONGRATS ❤️ Enjoy your newfound freedom.
I love when you say "on offer". We call it on sale but I like your way better. You are alway so upbeat and inspirational and make frugal living look doable. I look forward to seeing you every week.
You're welcome and thank you for watching
That’s what my sisters in the UK say , and yes here in the US we say on sale.
We no longer have the 20.00 a week for groceries extra in the budget. We have cut everything we can without causing a disruption in the house. Now, to get groceries I sell something on facebook, I am so fortunate to have a big pantry.
Sheesh! That's dire! You're in desperate circumstances
Maybe I should take a trip across the pond to shop the wines and olives 🫒 🍷. Lol. Very good prices on those.
Thanks
It was like a punch in the stomach to see the final total. We do a big shop when the monthly pension cheque arrives in the mail. We seldom buy cheese (I am allergic to dairy products), so a huge saving there. On the most recent trip to the store, I was very aware of the tenseness in people's faces. And there was only one person with a really full shopping cart.
Thanks
This was fun!
I felt your fruit and veg was pricy compared to uk; carrots a euro a kilo!!
I just visit our E.Leclere in the city....the store is massive! But i got some great deals. Hi from Slovenia!
So cool! I didn't know e le clerc was in other countries
Golly gluten-free bread is cheap in your area. I pay upwards of $9 for a loaf here in Portland, Oregon. Even local gluten-free bakery's breads at $8.50. Eek! Fred Meyer (owned by Kroger) sometimes has good deals and coupons. But they do tend to raise the base price so it seems like the sale price is good, but if you know that product well, you'll see the "sale" price is what the product normally would cost. It's such a scam. And shrinkflation is truly a thing. Ugh.
You're being unnecessarily robbed
Great bargains! Love a good shopping show and tell:) I just did my full monthly shop for June and bar some fresh veggies, salad and fruit I spent £152.80 or 179.50Euros, 194.75 US$, 316.86 NZ$, 292.67 AUS$. I previously topped up the freezer with meat deals to last for quite a few more months yet so didn't need to get any this month and my pantry is as full as I need it to be so nothing goes out of date before I can get to it. My cleaning and personal items I have at least a years supply of everything, personal items are due to lovely gifts from Christmas and my recent birthday. Keep shopping those deals everyone, it can be done, saves a fortune and keeps it in your account and not the supermarkets.
We do need to
Keep finding the deals
Thanks for the $ conversions!
Everything here is still ridiculously high even at our farmers market. I'm not a fan of canned vegetables but at the minute they are cheaper. Thank you both for the videos, i enjoy them very much. Love and hugs from Ohio, US
Thanks Lynn
Your prices seem similar to those here in the US. Many of our major retailers, Target, Wal-Mart, have started to roll back some prices. They have gouged the consumer so bad people have stopped buying. So , they are trying to act like they are doing us a favor. As always, I enjoyed the shopping haul. It is so interesting to see how people live and save money in other parts of the world. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks
Yep, Aldi is doing it now also. The stores ignorance is the cause for all of this. Walmart marked down some prices, got people into the stores only to raise the basic food prices. So, pizza's were on sale however, a can of veggies went up a quarter, Cokes and sodas and cereal are cheaper but real food prices went up. All the foods that were ingredients went up, while trash food prices went lower. Can veggies are supposed to go up again in August, so stock up your pantry now.
@@cathyeller5722 I have noticed the same thing at Aldi where I do most of our shopping. Aldi made a big deal about lowering prices on more than 200 items for summer, but the only markdowns I saw this week are on prepared items not on produce, dairy, and ingredients. I was not impressed. The produce sales aren't very good any longer either. Sale prices are higher than the regular price was a couple of years ago. Very disappointing.
I agree to the doing us a favor. I still won't ever shop at Target and Walmart only when I absolutely have to.
Those are mostly "loss leaders" whilst calling them "rollbacks". Also, watch the sizes change as the manufacturers' existing stock is cleared out.
Loved the video. On the news here in the Florida panhandle they said food prices were going down but I’ve not seen it yet. I think your whole food haul was great.
Thanks for sharing!!
I know you work hard to get the good prices. Your canned and bottled goods seem lower and your fresh item and cheese are lower. Groceries are higher in Florida. Enjoy your videos so much. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Last week I got 2 beef roasts for $2.99lb, normally $8.99lb. Eggs this week $1.27 on digital coupon. 5# potatoes $.99, I got 2. I'll get many meals from them. Our mayo is $5.99. Got cantalopes $.75@. Love seeing the prices and products from other countries. Saw comments from Austraila that a head of cabbage was $13 and a watermelon was over $27.00. Shocking!!
It's great if you shop the deals
save the dark black watermelon seeds and plant them after temperatures are above 45 F. love watermelon - we pay from $4 for tiny ones to $10 for big ones
That is an awesome price for cantaloupe. I just paid $1.99 at Aldi and thought it was a great deal.
Hi, Jane and Mike!
Greetings from Pennsylvania! Very interesting to see the store prices in your part of the world. The price of those sweet potatoes floored me! So expensive compared to here.
Ours are shipped a long way
@@FrugalQueeninFrance Sweet potatoes are so healthy compared to white potatoes. you should try to grow them in your garden
The French potatoes were on par with my regional potatoes. It pays to shop local.
@@tutuluvsminnie7129 they don't grow in this climate , too wet, not long enough periods of sunshine, regular potatoes grow even if it rains daily
most of the food seems more expensive than the area if the UK that i live in (midlands)
just wondered, do you ever go onto another supermarket site and see what that shopping haul would cost, say compared to lidl? i don't but have seen Skint Dad do it
Yes, I shop across intermarche, e le clerc, Lidl, Netto and Super U. I do my price comparisons before I go. I recently bought toiletries for the year in le clerc.
Great video , shocked at the price of the olive oil, but agree cheap oil tastes awful.
It isn't worth buying
We live close to kalamata in Greece, famous for its wonderful eating olives and oil, a litre of average oil is around €13 or for gorgeous bright green first press around €20 a litre when it’s in season. All the other prices are all very similar to yours Jane. My veg patch is now supplying us with enough produce for a decent salad everyday, although street market seasonal veg is reasonably priced. Do you and Mike have a weekly market near you or are supermarket prices cheaper? Thanks for your videos, I get some great ideas from you guys. Ps try baking that feta in foil, then drizzle with some honey and a sprinkle of sesame seeds- delish with that French stick!!!
I do the 'cheap butter' for baking and 'good butter' for eating too. Great video as usual. Our easy walking distance supermarket is a Super U so I particularly enjoyed watching this haul and it was valuable to learn from your mayonnaise experiment so I don't have to repeat it.
Love that!
I enjoy seeing the prices of your food and toiletries which are amazingly inexpensive compared to what we pay in our part of America. Even the prices of Autos seem to be a much better deal. I love it when you reminisce about the ways and prices of yesteryear because I long for the prices of the good ole days as we say in America. I really enjoy all of the tips, tricks and bits of advice that you cover on everything. Thank you both!
Thanks for your comment
Great video! Some of your prices are comparable to me here in NE Florida USA and we are more expensive on others. I buy EVOO at a warehouse club and it's $20+ for a 3 liter bottle (depending on the coupon). I recently paid $14 for 4 free-range chicken breasts at Aldi. My husband eats chicken and you have to be careful of the quality here in the US. Meat is very expensive. I don't eat it so have to pay more for good quality for him. We buy and eat a lot of berries and fresh fruit and vegetables. I feel badly for families feeding teenagers now.
Thanks Amanda
We think Red meat is cheaper in France than Spain But our fruit and veg and olive oil, especially if you buy the coldpress in January is much cheaper. I paid €20 for 5 litres. This lasts me a year or more.
That's a good price for oil
@@FrugalQueeninFrance price of olive oil 10 euros cheap brands in Spain.
@@FrugalQueeninFrance , I live in an oil producing área where you can buy it where it is produced.
Thoughtful planning and flexibility -- good for you!
Hi Jane and Mike, great shop. Your beef and pork joints looked lovely quality and I thought they are similar to the UK in price. Your tinned sweetie I think is a little more expensive than in the uk. The quality of your fruit and veg I really think is better and I like that paper bags are used. I really enjoyed your shopping haul and I always find it interesting. Many thanks for sharing, kind regards Angeline 😊 x
Thanks so much
I’m in New Zealand. How I would love to experience these cheap prices. You’d think, in a country that produces quality food ( enough for 40 million people, with a population of only 5 million) that we could get cheaper prices for our supermarket shop. There’s just no competition here. Everything has gone up and keeps going up. Most of our produce is exported, and have to pay the export price….
I work in the meat dept and was wowed by the price on the beef and pork! They looked really good though! Always love your shopping vieos!🎉
Thanks so much
I thought The wine was expensive until you pointed out that it was alcohol free
Thank you for good shopping haul, I got some good ideas from it. Thank you Jane Mike and puppies
You are so welcome
Have you ever considered making your own yogurt? I tend to switch to home made then to store bought. If it were up to me it would all be homemade. So am I to assume your budget is roughly $400 a month US$? Last week here where I live chicken at most stores was 99¢ a lb. This week it is Pork at 99¢ a lb and Ground (minced) beef 2.97 a lb. We have been eating a lot of zucchini and freezing it as my 2 plants are giving alot. I noticed this weeks ads had hardly any vegetables in them.
Thanks so much for watching
I love your shopping videos. Saving money always feels good
Thanks so much
Potatoes very pricey, but also here in Spain too x
They are indeed
I would love to see a video on the basic herbs and spices you like to keep on hand and are there any tips and tricks for getting a good deal or making them last longer because that is one thing that I find myself spending a lot of money on thanks as always my friends 👍🏾
Thanks can do
Oooo,Super haul! Colorful and variety again.I am so happy to watch this and I specifically really like when you say " I tried this or their own brand vs the other option and then you say your opinion. Super helpful. I get to see from you what are you getting and soon when I have the possibility to enter that shop,I know I would be quite prepare. So thanks for that. Well, to answer your question,in my opinion the prices are great. The discount on veggies is a hit. Olive oil...but it's always more expensive if the quality is good. Still very good price Something I think is expensive is 10 slices of ham for almost 5 euro,if I am not wrong. Maybe because I don't really consume processed meats, salami or I don't know really. But I know they love their ham and perhaps that's the price for it or even more. No idea. I don't consume alcohol,so non-alcoholic wines are the way to enjoy. Yes,they are not cheap and as you said, depends on the brand can be even more expensive than regular ones. I think it's fair, because of the efforts in removing the alcohol and some of them are also without sulfites and pure, without added grape juice in it. Then to me,it's worth to pay such treat for myself. It's like appreciation for the patent and work they have done,so people not really into alcohol can enjoy too. This is just my own way of thinking. I can already imagine you there on a beautiful evening, outdoors, nature sound, you two and chilled wine. Serenity! Great haul and great products👍🥳👏
Thanks so much for your reply
Your prices are in line with ours in the USA. We use $600 as a base line for two people per month some months are more some way less depending on what we need. After watching you more and more I realize I need to do better. Thank you
Ours is 300-400€ per month. I’m so well stocked that my budget for June is 250€
Some of your produce is cheaper, your meat is similar. All in all , it’s have a plan and stick to it!😊
Very true!

It's because you're not French! They'd burn the country to the ground than accept exploitation
Overall the prices do seem higher than where I live here in the UK, although, you have better discounts, which reduces the difference I suppose. Your joints of beef look cheaper and the wine at that price is around £1.50 less than the cheapest here. Some lovely food there Jane. Enjoy. 😃
Thanks, wine with alcohol is under 3€ for a drinkable bottle
I just love you and will never stop watching your videos!🥰
Thanks so very much
With your €189 total, did you use your €126 credit. If so, what do you do with your excess food budget or where do you put the excess funds back?
Thanks for watching
The price of olive oil was eye watering! Can I ask why you buy bottled water? Does tap water in France not taste as nice or is it not suitable to drink?
Appreciate your videos especially in these very difficult Financial Times.
Come here and drink it and see if you think it’s ok, then you can decide. We think it tastes awful.
The packages of bottled water are much less than what I find in our part of the US. The cherry tomatoes are higher in price here as well. Great video again. Thank you, Jane and Michael!
Thanks for the info!
I thought your beef roast price was wonderful.
Thanks
I’m in the US, and I bought some Tuscan olive at Sams club today 1 lt,or 34fl oz for $14.98 which I think is an excellent price for a single county oil produced and bottled in Tuscany. 5 avocados for $5.96 a little more than you paid. And a 2lb tray of Campari tomatoes product of Mexico $4.96. We also bought 18 free rage grass fed eggs for 5.02 which I think were more expensive than yours. However Sam club cost us a yearly membership which I can’t remember how much it is now.
Your water prices were so cheap to England. I pay £4 for 6 small 500ml bottles of San Pellegrino sparkling water. Wow! Also tinned petit pois are well over £1 here tinned. Good shop.
I buy Greek full fat yoghurt and add fresh fruit . Never buy flavoured yoghurt , it's cheaper and healthier like that. And I have some farmer shops around with good prizes. Started a sinking fund pantry with stapple food when they are on sale ( mainly tin food ) to be ahead for next year.
Really good video, grouting is boring but has to be done. We have two floors to do so if you'd like to come and help you're welcome 😊
It's always fun to see your shopping haul. I am looking forward to moving to Europe, here in New York I have to spend so much more money if I want to buy good quality food and in Europe food seems to be better. One example is that I cannot eat wheat or dairy in the U.S., they give me such a bad physical reaction, but when I'm in Europe I have no problem eating them.
I hope you get to relocate soon.

Thank you for another great share. We just got told our medical insurance won’t cover my chemotherapy tablets, we’re still trying to find out why, so our frugal life is about to become extreme. I initially need 30 tablets at €58 per tablet, so we will have to use the credit card which means our budget will need to cover the repayments, ready for the following 30 days tablets 😢 don’t you just love insurance companies along with politicians and banks. 😡😡😡 luckily we have excellent family support who will all do what they can to help ❤️
In which country?

@@lynnegeddes7532 that’s awful, our carte vitale system here pays 100% of all cancer treatment
In Spain if you are resident and in the nationel health system they cover all your cancer treatment costs.
@@FrugalQueeninFrance it’s because I’m not covered by the UK S1 system as I’m not uk pension age till January. The bank sold us the private medical insurance policy and it was supposed to cover everything however we seem to have been misled somewhere by someone. Still at least they’ve covered the rest of my hospital and cancer treatment costs have been covered. I start my radiology and chemo treatments on Monday, so fingers crossed the initial 30 days will be enough, I’m a tough old bird, so watch this space.
The English translation on the lardons makes me chuckle every time I see it. It should be smoked bacon, not smocked!
Yes the sweet potatoes were expensive. Here in Pennsylvania the are half that price. They are not really in season now. I grow them in my garden. That olive oil seemed high , as you stated.

Pleased to see you are paying decent prices for your butter, NZ butter is so expensive and we are surrounded by cows!!! I would so love to have all those cheese options and gluten free options, I think your fruit prices especially apples are very expensive. I like the way you shop, I need to be more organised! My husband eats everything in the fridge, it annoys me, any tips on keeping him from eating everything so we can stick to a plan? I call him my chaff cutter! Thanks again for such a great video
Meal planning, get a board up
Do you put anything back for food storage? Just for times of uncertainty?
Yes, all the time
Wish I could spend as little as you do ... our prices are on the rise again ! The stores advertise new price reductions but increase other prices to make up the differences. Even though I shop the sales and stock up on bargains when I can , my bill continues to rise even at Aldi ! Our horrendous political situation does not help our economy ... no one trusts the current administration because they tell us everything is fine ... inflation is ending LOL ! Meanwhile all of our costs continue to increase! Don't know how this will end but the situation here is becoming very volatile ... it is very ugly ! Thanks for letting us know your situation and how you are coping !
It's really rough for you.
Hi just watched your podcast with Mike from UK urban prepper it was great so have subbed and look forward to watching more of your content 😀

I have started sitting done before shopping and checking super u and le clercs app to get money back, I buy a lot less than yourselves as its just me and so far have managed zero back on super u card lol, i do have almost €6 at le clerc. I have stopped buying olive oil and buy colza now as the health bebefits are similar, I dont use olive oil raw etc, I dont make my own salad dressings etc. It really is a juggling act doing a shop when your on a budget 😕
Thanks for taking the time to comment
Thanks Jane, I shop at our Super U in the North Dordogne our prices before discounts are higher than yours.interesting.

Olive oil has really gone up in price in the UK too. Rarely on promotion either now. Love the shopping haul and thank you so much for sharing xx
You are so welcome!
Your eggs were more expensive than uk prices 😊
Your butter is still more expensive than ours here in NZ although the price has started to creep up again here. We still haven't felt the full effect of the olive oil price rise here yet either, ours is still a wee bit cheaper but I buy it in a 3 litre tin as that is definitely the much cheaper way to buy it here and then have a smaller bottle that I top up for using
Thanks for sharing
I was surprised by your low yogurt prices. Well done on all your savings!
I encourage you to make your own yogurt. It is very easy and nutritious.😊
I don't need to as you can see yogurt is cheap here
I'm off to SuperU tomorrow, will look out for the avocados, they look great, I agree it is one of the nicer places to shop; you've done well with your loyalty points!
I make vegan mayo (I'm not vegan but eat lots of things that are) with soya milk, cold pressed rapeseed oil, a spoonful of cider vinegar and a teaspoon of ground flaxseed, mustard, a dash of maple syrup and black salt if you can get it (you usually can't in France). Might not sound very promising but I prefer it now to the eggy stuff, it's easy to make and keeps well and I've always got the means to make it. Many sweet potatoes are grown in France now, in the Loire valley, or sometimes even on the bio farm up the road from here, but I guess it's not the season.
Thanks for the tip
@@FrugalQueeninFrance That's my version, most of those are optional, the essentials are soya milk, vinegar and any decent oil (the rapeseed has a mustardy taste and eggy colour, a drop of olive is good but too much is too strong IMO). The mustard and flaxseed help with emulsifying but aren't essential. Plenty recipes on-line!
