    This might possibly be the best wheel dying video on the RUclipss. I've definitely seen a lot of those pale color skate wheels around. Very curious about those fancy-pants wheels.

    Clothing companies use mordants that make the materials dye ready.
    So its likely the fixative should be soaked into the urethane prior to dyeing, but the dye should be applied immediately after the fixative soaks in. Then the dye should set and lock into the material. I'm not sure if you've tried this, but I'm thinking that would work! Send me some feedback if you're able.

    I am going to dye my daughters Anabolix wheels. This is the only video I have found that says NOT to use boiling water. The wheels were quite costly, so I definitely don't want to ruin them! I am trying to figure out the best way to do this. So far, this is the most informative video I have found! This is also the only video I have seen so far that mentions using the color stay fixative!

    I only needed a quarter of the bottle in a pan of water and it was a strong color in a few minutes!
    I did boil the water though. And the color kept darkening a little after rinsing it off with cold water.

    Awesome video. I have a few questions.
    1) How did you make the fine patterns on the wheels?
    2) What happens if you don't remove the logos/print from the wheel. (I'd like to keep these details on mine)
    3) For the Colorstay - do you use that straight too or do you mix it with water?

    I want to dye my wheels in a soft lilac color. Would you still reccomend using it straight from the bottle? Or would it be better to dilute it with water?

    • @slowlo888
      @slowlo888  3 года назад +2

      Hi Joy. It's all a balance. Diluted gives you a wider window for getting the perfect tone. Full strength will go fast. I just wouldn't dilute too much to make sure you get the color you want. I've left wheels in overnight before, so it pays to be patient to get what you want!

    • @slowlo888
      @slowlo888  3 года назад

      Hi Nicole. It's just a matter of resisting each layer of dye with tape, wax, glue, etc. And adding more areas of resist each time it gets another color. I just haven't found the perfect resist yet. If I ever get it right I'll show my failures, too!

    • @slowlo888
      @slowlo888  3 года назад

      Hi Lincoln. You can get a good black by layering. Dye the wheels a deep blue/purple/red first, then do a round of the graphite. Then black will be nice and dark. How did yours end up looking?

    Do they have to be white to dye or can you re dye a coloured wheel say put pink dye on a red wheel ?.

    • @markschatz2672
      @markschatz2672 2 года назад

      It's all additive, so white works best, but you can always try it out. Dye will add pigment to whatever base color you start with, but it won't add any white. Dye will show best on lighter colors and only slightly darken a darker wheel. If you want a lighter color to show on a dark wheel, you'll have to resort to paint or a printing ink of some kind.
